The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This little book left me surprised and amazed. The writer gives some caring advices in order to help children, but even adults, to learn to love themselves and anchieve their dreams.
I loved the concept behind this "Step Into Your Power". The illustrations are very beautiful, colorful and help you focus on some important sentences.
I would have loved to read this book when I was younger and at school. It could have been of so much help. But I'm happy to have read it now, it is still helpful.

This is an amazing book both for young activists, as well as though just thinking about what they want to do with their lives a this point.

The subtitle sort of says it all. How to live your best life. This is not only for you, and your self care, but also for your life in your community.

Step into your power

step into your power

Some self-care advice you don't realize until later in life. As the book says, "Be you, not perfect."

Good for all young people, but mainly aimed towards women, who often could use this kind of advice.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

This short how-to book is about learning to be your best you. Each section is chocked full of activities and experiences to help you hone your personal power. The text is combined with quotes and great colorful illustrations. I loved the way this book was written. Super supportive, no preaching, actionable, enjoyable, accessible, and wonderful. Would make a great grad gift for high school and college students.

Jamie Wilson is a writer and feminist activist and Andrea Pippins is a writer and illustrator. In this thought-provoking, empathic and inspirational book aimed at girls aged 9+ (although there’s a lot here that boys would benefit from too) they set out 23 lessons for children to feel more powerful, from learning self-care techniques to standing up for themselves and facing down their fears, which a lot of adults would benefit from learning too.

The best parts about this book is the constant reinforcement of being who you are and growing more confident in using your voice. I like the blunt, matter of fact, in your face advice to just be yourself.

This book is great for kids starting to come into their own and understand their independence. How they can make their mark in the world. Beautifully illustrated and the writer really relates to kids with her own perspective and experiences.

This book makes empowering yourself fun – with the right combination of language that does not preach or speak down to the reader and illustrations that pop out of the page with bright colors that appeal to the all.

Imagine having your personal mentor and cheerleader with you always. You can, with ‘Step Into Your Power‘!

Empowering you, the reader, to be the best You through exercises, action-plans, and stories to encourage and inspire, this book has it all.

For example, it talks about learning to speak up. And I love how the book goes into teaching the right way to speak up – to arm yourself with facts and discuss your opinions on things; to understand that it is ok to disagree with the people around you but to learn to do it the right way too.

Side-note: This reminds me of the times I tell my kids to learn the difference between speaking up and talking back! I am sure they disagree with me on this but that is ok 🙂 We are all learning together to bridge that gap!

Elsewhere, it teaches to say No, and teaches this again in wonderful ways (like saying no to bad habits, among other similar examples!)

The book also explores making your own path when you feel like you don’t fit in. Jamia teaches through her words of wisdom to learn to appreciate yourself – be the shining outlier, not the outcast.

These are just a few of the ways, each one simple but easily actionable, that Jamia teaches you – the reader – to Step Into Your Power. Andrea Pippin’s pop-out-of-the-page illustrations and bright backdrops are the perfect partner to Jamia’s words.

In Summary:
While this book can work for any age-group, I think it can have a lot of impact on 9 to 13 year olds. As a mom to a just-turned-teen-girl, I try to impart many of these lessons to my daughter, and this book is definitely going to help make it so much easier!

Giftable? Yes, totally. So ahead and buy ‘Step Into Your Power‘ for yourself or for that person who will love it.
