Cliché. If you can get past it, it's a decent read. The series thus far needs some editing. It's very redundant and leaves nothing to be inferred. It would be great for a young teenager.
This story begins with Michalla looking for her sister Cori. Michalla is walking through an amusement park when she is captured by Ratman. Watching this happen is a 14 year old boy, AJ, who attempts to free her. His first try is not successful, but he tries again and it works. AJ and Michalla team up and begi the search for Cori. Along the way they run into two other individuals that join them in their search. As this section of the book winds down, they were captured and jailed. An unknown group freed them and took them away in a helicopter.
The second section of the book tells of the efforts that Cori and her father Noah follow as they continue their search for Michalla. They are currently at their home in Oak Park, but they are getting ready to leave. Before the leave, Cori wants to check out a house in the neighborhood where one of their neighbors is dying. The dying father asks Cori to take care of his daughter. Cori agrees and the group then heads towards Miami where they believe Michalla has gone. On their journey they locate the plane that Noah had stolen. After talking with the person who stole it, they came to an agreement. The individual gave Noah why he did it and their arrangement would have this person fly them where they needed, the first place being Cape Canaveral. They went to Miami from there and were not successful in locating Michalla. They were disappointed, and the leader at Cori's school told them that Michalla had died. When they back to the Cape, they received information from their pilot that raised their spirits.
To discovery the torture that Michalla endured, who were the new additions to AJ and her group in addition to how they wound up in jail then you need to read the 1st part of this book. To learn what Cori, Noah and the rest of their group went through, then the second part is for you.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I am loving this series so much, I can't get enough of it! The third installment is coming out later this summer and I can't wait, it is a fantastic post apocalyptic series. In this one we follow the story of Michalla, she hasn't had it easy and this book is a lot darker and grittier than the first one. The story keep you on the edge of your seat, constantly wanting to know what is going to happen next. New characters are introduced as we follow the twists and turns of Michalla's story as she is trying to find her sister Cori. She gets kidnapped by a very horrible man called Ratman, but she manages to be saved by a young boy called AJ. I love the character development throughout this series, you really do start to care for them and want to know more aubout their journey and what will happen to them. Towards the end of the book, it returns to Noah and Cori's storyline and what they have been up to on their journey to find Michalla. This one also ties in to the prequel, and that was a question I had when reading the first book. So I am glad this has appeared in this book. I would definitely recommmend reading the prequel if you haven't already done so. I love how you can see both storylines are on their way to joining, but there are many an obstacle along the way before that is going to happen. I can not wait for the next book and I hope there will be many after that as well, as I don't want this series to end as it is fantastic!
Richard C. Hale's story about what happens after the Pukes has killed off most of the population on earth continues. This time we meet the younger sister Michalla, once a student at The University of Miami. Michalla has not as lucky as her sister, she suffers greatly more than once. We also meet several others that you will either learn to love, or hate. While most of the book centers around Michalla, and the others involved with her, we do learn a little more about what happens to Michalla's father Noah, and her sister Cori.
As with Chaos and Apocalypse, Richard C. Hale has delivered another enjoyable read. His character developments are written in such a way that you feel as if you know each one. Yet again I find myself wanting to stay up just a little longer to learn what is going to happen next. At the end of After Midnight you probably do not want to wait until later this summer (2022) to learn how the Dresden family survives what the aftermath of the Pukes has done to the Earth.
After Midnight, the second episode in the Last Dawn series answered several questions I had after reading Apocalypse, of course it created several more at the conclusion that I trust will be answered by the third installment so Horizons can’t come soon enough. After Midnight follows Michalla as she treks to find her sister Cori and her adventures. While the first installment was action -packed, this installment takes the action to a new level with a darker and grittier tone. If you read Apocalypse, you owe it to yourself to read After Midnight, you won’t be sorry. If you enjoy apocalyptic thrillers and haven’t read Apocalypse, you really need to go back and read it prior to reading After Midnight. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from the author and chose to provide my review.
The struggle to survive a country wide ebola-like pandemic takes up the story of the older daughter, traveling through Florida to reach Miami. She hopes to reunite with her younger sibling.
Joining up with several young people along the way, they escape evil men intent on enslaving young women, and forcibly ruling their own patch of territory.
There are several twists, including roving gangs, a doctor with a possible cure, a new virus strain, the father and daughter raid on Miami, and a remnant Military strike group. The daughters miss connecting with each other, but the plot is set for the next series book.
This is a well written post apocalyptic series begging to be read start to finish.
This futuristic story begins with the aftermath of an Ebola like plague that appears to have wiped out most of the population of America. Life has viciously turned into an “every person for themselves” scenario. The story follows two sisters, against all odds, searching for each other amidst the detritus of humanity. They come face to face with the evil side of humanity and the beautiful side of humanity. As the book progresses it appears at times that evil side of humanity would triumph. I speed read with an almost desperate need to know whether the sisters would find each other and not be killed in the trying. All in all this is a story that gripped and held my attention from the opening pages till the very end.
This is way better than the first one, but is still very predictable and it suffers the same lack of things for us for infer.
Spoiler Alert: We still see the characters doing dumb things you can't explain. Close to the end of the book, they decide to look for Michalla in Miami, and they just go in the University as if Noah had not been tortured and almost killed there. They knew Tobias Lee had over a 100 men on his "army" and they just go in as if they were bullet proof? I'm sorry, but that was the stupidest thing they've done in the entire book, among other things. It's like watching a bad horror movie where you know you shouldn't be opening the wardrobe but they still do otherwise you don't have a movie.

The pukes suck. An Ebola-like illness is killing people right and left, and the power is off. A J is living in an abandoned amusement park ( Disney world) when he watches as a young girl is beaten and abducted by a local tough. A J rescues the girl and they set off on an odyssey to find her sister.Just when one has about given up on humankind, a nice guy comes along in the story. This happens often enough to give one hope. This book is part of a series, so you can’t expect everything to be tied up in a neat bundle by the end of the book. I really like the characters, although I feel like the target audience is probably early teens.
The Last Dawn series is awesome! Once you start reading, it is hard to put down. In terms of the story, it is engaging and easy to read, but it keeps you on the edge of your seat as you wait to see what will happen next. I have found myself putting it down so that I don’t finish too soon, but then having to pick it back up because I NEED to know what is going to happen next. The characters are easy to love, or hate, and the story is well-written. Looking forward to the next book in the series! Thank you to Richard C Hale for the opportunity to review this book!
Not a whole lot of character development in this one. The characters are all weak and fairly stupid. How many violent run ins would they have to have before they started actually taking precautions to avoid them. Too much violence and way too much evil. This author must either hate women or have never met a strong one. I read the first book, which was better than this one, forced myself to finish this one but cannot bring myself to read the third or the prequel. Series is definitely not worth the time you waste to read it.
An entertaining continuation of the series. It's mostly about Michalla and her journey to find her sister. The sister and father were featured in the first 2 books of the series, and the perspective shifts to those characters towards the end. Maybe they'll come together in the next book! There are some parts that I think could have been fleshed out a little more to make them less ridiculous, but a series like this isn't really about being a literary masterpiece or anything. Still entertaining nonetheless!
This is a good follow on from Apocalypse and people are still not getting it, trying to set up their own little empires but there are a few good guys trying to restore some kind of law and order. Dad and Cori are still looking for Michalla who has been rescued from a psycho who needs her to breed with and is also trying to find her sister but thinks dad is still in space. I hope it all gets sorted in the next episode the suspense is getting to me.
The story continues in this second installment. Michalla is captured by a man nicknamed Ratman. She is chained to the wall and AJ hears screaming. He helps her escape, but Ratman follows. There is a lot of suspense in traveling during a pandemic. Men are trying to capture women and kill anyone in the way. Once I started reading, I got more and more into the story. Anxiously waiting for the next in the series.
This is primarily the story of the other Dresdon daughter, Michalla. I had a little trouble getting into it as it was stark and quite distressing, but as the story moved along, I enjoyed it more. I liked AJ a lot and he is a good counterbalance to so many bad guys that are out there. This is generally well-written and has good editing. We end with the uncertainty of the agenda of what is left of the government and I look forward to book 3.
This series as a whole would have been better if the stories of the various characters were written as individual books, or more intertwined. As written, there is too much time in between switching from one story to another and it makes it hard to remember who’s who and where they are. In general, this book was not as good because it basically consisted of people being taken prisoner, being abused, escaping, rinse repeat.
Not badly written, but Hollywood BS, which ruins it. Could not finish. Shot in chest, up and about in a few days, no internal damage. Multiple stabbings, gunshot wounds, not a single infection. Working plane on runway at Cape Canaveral fully armed with ordnance conveniently for our heroes! Crap ultra G rated scenes totally unrealistic. Threw down in disgust.
This is a good series but so many issues and discrepancies. Book 1, Cori is 2 years younger, book 2 she's only 1. Cori is a nurse in college at only 21 and has been a nurse for a while? The lakes in Florida are teaming with alligators yet the author doesn't seem aware of that issue. There's several other things but you get the idea. The writer needs to do more research but still a good story.
This guy has a knack at the plot twists! The way good guy has to keep up with the bad guy is great. I just want to put a round in his head and watch the lights go out. I know there are several bad guys in this storyline, but, as I see it, all things will come to you if you wait for it.
I am really enjoying this series. It is very well written, and you read more chapters than you intended too. While searching for his family, Noah comes across lots of different problems. He is eventually reunited with one of his daughters, and now they have a lead on the whereabouts of his eldest daughter. Which I am about to read book 3 to see if they find her.

This will keep you on the edge of your seat until you find out who will survive and if the family will find each other. They come across so many people, good and bad on their journey. Lots of new friends and some love that make you feel that all is not lost.
I love reading books that carry into a series. With After Midnight, The Last Dawn series is not a disappointment. I am sure tat book number three carries on it will be a thriller.
I loved the kids, Dexter and Know and Terrina, and how wholesome them playing is. This is an all around amazing, action-packed perfect for teens and teens and adults alike!
I received a free copy of this book. I am glad I Did! This series keeps getting better. Can not wait for the next book. If you like End of the World books try this series.
Instead of an EMP we have a deadly virus which means that vehicles still run. An interesting cast of characters many of whom have endured capture by bad men.
