This was a sweet, summery story that tells the romantic tale of how love is tested by distance. Noah and Keira are based in Bristol but it soon becomes clear that Noah’s home is on the Isle of Scilly. Determined for their relationship to work long-distance, neither are very good at maintaining a strong face and desperately miss one another.

Noah and Keira’s relationship comes about as a result of her best friend, Mel, and her interfering ways. Although she looks out for her friend, I can’t say I completely liked Mel and her behaviour. At times I thought she crossed the friendship line, becoming too immersed in Keira’s affairs when it would have been best for her to stay out of it. Likewise, there were some personality traits of Keira and Noah I disliked and this lessened my enjoyment of the novel. There were times when I shuddered at their selfish, sometimes catty attitudes and I wanted them to wake up and realise they did not have a positive attitude.

Not only is this book about Noah and Keira’s relationship, but the setting of the Islands of Scilly and each other’s background becomes rather significant. Firstly, I loved the idyllic coastline that Ellis describes and it encouraged me to search the location online for myself. It looks as beautiful as it was described! The coastline and remote countryside sounded awesome and I could not help but picture sunny afternoons in peace and quiet. I could see why it pulled Noah back from Bristol.

Secondly, the theme of family proves an influencing element to both Noah and Keira. For Noah, it turns out that him and his brothers have responded to their father’s sudden death in very different ways. I was intrigued by a couple of Noah’s brothers and wanted them to feature more in the story. However, with so many siblings, I guess this can provide a solid foundation for books later in the series. I found Noah’s emotional side to be interesting and I think this added depth to his character, although I would have liked there to be further scenes with his mother as Noah deals with his grief.

Similarly, Keira is shaped by the relationship she has with her parents. I cringed at the scenes with her mother and father and truly sympathised with Keira. At the same time, I wanted her to prove herself stronger and less naïve about what was going on. It takes comments from Noah, interference from Mel and a bit of growing from Keira for her to realise the reality of her parents’ relationship with her. There is a happy conclusion for this part of the story and I think this reflected how much Keira has changed as a result of her relationship with Noah.

This is a sweet story and I am intrigued to find out more about Noah’s family and his best friend, Serena. It wasn’t the most exciting and I did find it start to slow down when Noah moved back to Scilly. However, I did enjoy the sweetness of the romance and I look forward to seeing what happens next.

With thanks to Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Keira and friend Mel have been popping in their local Bristol pub for a few months now, and while they have good banter with the barman Noah it hasn't gone much further. That changes when Mel provides a little intervention as she sees that Noah and Keira obviously like each other.

This was a fabulous book that I only planned on reading a few chapters of, and I ended up reading the whole book over the course of an evening, Yep another late-night reading!

The signs that Mel could see between Noah and Keira were not wrong and the two soon start to find that there is a real attraction. One problem though, Noah is due to return back home to the Isles of Scilly. Does he really want to start a relationship?

When Kiera realises that this relationship will be hard to continue she tries to do the best thing, trying not to get to attached, but this isn't possible. The attraction and the easy way the two have with each other are natural and effortless. Noah decides that he will invite Keira to his home and meet his family.

There is a lot more to this story than romance and friendship. Both Keira and Noah have things that hold them back, they have very different families. His is a larger family and her very small. the differences and the backstories gradually come out and this makes for some wonderful heart to heart moments and also for admitting truths.

The other characters in this book are brilliant and I am so glad to see that this is the first book in a planned series. I cannot wait to see what lies in store for two characters that will be the focus of the next book!

This was a gorgeous read and it was nice to see the Isles of Scilly being shown off, I still have to visit there and I will one day, I do live in Cornwall after all.

This is definitely one for those who like contemporary fiction, romance and stories about family and friendships. I loved it and I would definitely recommend it.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Isles of Scilly, The Weekend Getaway is the first instalment of what promises to be an unforgeable series.
Keira, a digital marketing specialist, has had her eye on Noah for a while. He’s a barman at the local pub, she visits regularly with her flatmate, Mel. He’s definitely her highlight of the week when he’s serving on a Sunday evening. When Mel, sees that her friend and Noah are attracted to each other, she makes it her duty to get them together. Not surprisingly, they hit it off, but is this just a one-off date, or could it lead to something more?

Noah’s favourite shifts at the pub are when Keira is around. So, when her friend Mel, suggests he should ask her out, phone numbers are exchanged and a date is set up. However, his feelings are conflicted about whether he should tell Keira he’s leaving Bristol…

Secrets and family play a huge part in Keira and Noah's story as the pair get to know each other. Communication and lack thereof, play a part as presumptions and misinformation threaten to spoil not only their relationship but also with family members too. In addition, the pair have some life-changing decisions to make within a short time span, yet somehow, it all comes together perfectly.

I liked the contrast between both their families; Keira is an only child and Noah has four brothers. They are different, but both have their share of problems… relatable issues, so it’s easy for a reader to understand the emotions attached to each incident.

This is the first novel I’ve read by Ms. Ellis and I enjoyed how effortless it was for me to read this book in one sitting. Overall, a delightfully entertaining novel with a terrific cast of characters and a beautiful setting.

The Weekend Getaway is the 6th novel I have read by Hannah Ellis. I enjoy her work, and it has such an effortless feel, so it makes for a wonderfully easy read.
This novel is about finding your ideal companion. Placed in such a beautiful part of the world, with a terrific cast of characters, this story is a well-written, touching tale full of tenderness, friendship, family, love, trust and romance.
I am looking forward to reading book two in this series, 'A Change of Heart', which is out later this year.
I am happy to recommend it.

After avoiding the subject for far too long, bartender Noah finally asks his favourite regular Keira out on a date. The chemistry is incredible and they find themselves falling fast, but Noah only moved to Bristol for a year and they're running out of time. Will a weekend with Noah's family in the gorgeous Isles of Scilly help bring them together or drive them apart?

Noah and Keira come from very different backgrounds and this book doesn't shy away from how this affects their blossoming relationship. Noah's roots are over in the Isles of Scilly but these have been damaged by family tragedy. Keira feels bound to long hours at her marketing job and a complicated relationship with her parents has left with very poor boundaries that thankfully get called out early on. The way all these were addressed gave me confidence in their happy ending.

I have to say I really liked Seren, Noah's best friend. Rather understandably, Keira is a bit of an unreliable narrator here, but without spoilers I can say I really like what the author did with her character and I'm excited that she's next to get her own book!

A entertaining light read that will make you want to visit the Isles of Scilly!

*Trigger Warning*

This book does handle adult topics such as gambling and family debt, so if these are triggers for you, this is not the book for you.

When I started The Weekend Getaway I didn't realize just how much I would laugh over Keria and Mel's relationship their best friend relationship is one that many women (including myself) that dream of having and you also can't get over Mel's obsession of Indiana Jones.

But the story is not just based on Keria's relationship with Mel, but Keria and Noah the barman from Keria's local pub, The Fiddle and Flute, I have to say that I really enjoyed the flirting between Noah and Keria, Noah's anxiety about calling Keria and not being so forward, and Keria's mistaking Scilly for Sicily, this story literally had me giggling like a teenager, but it's not all fun and games, as Noah and Keria relationship become long-distance, Noah guilt about starting a relationship before he left Bristol to go home. Keria's insecurity over her job, money, the relationship with her parents, and her future with Noah. But when everything comes to a head, will Keria and Noah's relationship survive?

Hannah Ellis is a new author to me, but her descriptions of people and locations are absolutely delightful and made me miss a lot about England and kick myself that I never actually visited the Isles of Scilly.

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a delightful read. I read it in two sittings even though I planned on only reading a few chapters at a time but it was just so quick and addictive. Mel cannot help but interfere when she sees that Noah and Keira have feelings for each other and it was interesting to see how the relationship unravelled. There is so much packed into this book; romance, friendship and family, as well as some heart-warming moments.

I cannot wait to see what Hannah does with this series as this was such a nice opening. An escape to the Isles of Scilly is an ideal use of an afternoon - you will quickly be whisked away.

This author is so good at writing very light, fun romances that are easily digestible and quick to read! It doesn’t necessarily pull you in like some books and I don’t find myself thinking about the characters or story later but it’s so enjoyable to read while you’re in it. Kind of like a hallmark movie, not too deep but so easy to enjoy!
The one thing I love about this series and her previous Loch Lannick series is that the setting is so idyllic. These beautiful islands in Cornwall and Scotland sound like a dream and she does an amazing job of painting a clear picture of what they’re like. I hadn’t heard of the destinations before and upon looking them up I’ve put them on my must travel list!
If you need a quick easy read to break a slump this is a great book for that!

The first in Ellis’ Isles of Scilly series (which I highly recommend). The story begins in Bristol, where Keira is a regular in the pub where Noah Treneary works. They hit it off and end up going on a date, but Noah doesn’t want to tell Keira that he’s planning on moving back home to the Isles of Scilly in just a few weeks… particularly when he realises he’s completely fallen for her.

He invites her to the islands for the weekend (where she misreads Scilly as ‘Sicily’) where we get introduced to the beautiful Isles of Scilly, as well as to the rest of the Treneary family.

An excellent start to the series, although I really did want to bash Noah and Keira’s heads together and shout at them to JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER multiple times.

Noah and Keira have known each other for months, but their relationship gets more serious just as Noah is moving home to the Isles of Scilly. With Keira not wanting to persue a long-distance relationship, this poses a problem - ow to stay together and make their relationship last.
I liked all the characters in this story, some of which will be explored in the rest of the series. I did feel though that Keira was a little bit selfish in how she wanted to resolve the problem of the long distance; wanting Noah to make sacrifices, without considering making sacrifices herself.
A great story though, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series. i have never been to the Isles of Scilly but they sound beautiful.

Kiera and Mel are best friends. They like to go to the bar on Fridays for a few drinks and entertainment. They are friends with the bartender, Noah. Noah and Kiera go out on a date and decide to see each other again. But Noah is going to be moving from Bristol, England to the Isles of Scilly off the coast of Cornwall. He only came to Bristol for a year to think things through and make a decision about his life and where he wants to be. Kiera likes Bristol and has a good job. She doesn't want a long distance relationship. Will they be able to ever see eye to eye? Highly recommended.

I Loved It!

When Noah takes Keira home with him to the Isles of Scilly, she is smitten with both him and his home, but then he tells her he is moving back home permanently and her life is turned upside down. How will the relationship work with her living and working in Bristol and Noah living 28 miles off the Cornish coast? I loved every minute of this book and have almost finished the next in the series.

A good read

This was an interesting story of two people being attracted to each other. Each has secret family sorrows. Noah is leaving shortly to go back home but Keira longs for him to stay. Keira has some serious insecurities that she needs to deal with & Noah is still grieving his father's death. Home for Noah is Scilly a beautiful island. The descriptions are written so well you can almost hear the crash of the waves.

Slow burning story

I persevered with this as I love the Isles of Scilly and love to read stories set there.
Likeable characters- even the scrounging father, were only just enough to keep me reading. While this sets the scene for the series it dragged along so slowly. I’m sure there is so much scope to explore Noah’s family that I do recommend this but bear with it because it is infuriating until it gets going!

The characters were great. The two main characters were wonderful and their best friends opened the story to greater understanding of friendships. The lovely background of Scilly Islands was a travel log.

I could not get into this book. The more I tried reading it, the sooner I lost interest or fell asleep. It does have unique characters but everything is a bit jumbled and out of sync. I wish this book had an epilogue.

Great escapist book

Loved the story, great description of the Isles of Scilly, made me want to visit one day.
Found the ups and downs of their relationship a bit annoying, Keira has high expectations of a fella.
All in all a good holiday read.

Slow story. But a cute little rom com. Felt like the FMC was whiney. Fade to black scenes so light on the romance. Loved the best friend characters. Might just read the second book to see Serens personality.

This book was a total waste of time. By looking at the cover I was hoping for a story about a magical, romantic weekend in a beautiful paradise setting. That was not the case at all. The story didn’t have any surprises, deep love story, or heart-warming moments. Super disappointing.
