The Girl in the Yellow Pantsuit collects the best-loved of Becca Balint’s weekly columns on politics, history, and culture. Becca’s curiosity, humor, and deep affection for her subjects provide readers with new ways of examining trenchant problems. Her clear-eyed perspectives on subjects as wide-ranging as American politics, global affairs, education policy, and parenthood challenge us to think more deeply about our own place in the world and the impact we want to leave.
This is a collection of Balint's op eds that were published in the Brattleboro Reformer. They are thoughtful, thought provoking, and delightful. She has organized the works into six sections which are her guiding principles: authenticity, connection, vulnerability, hope, justice, and action. Topics range widely but the structure is pretty much the same: a personal or human anecdote, academic research, and strong conclusion. Whether she is writing about her children, her neighbors' generosity, inspiration she gains from nature, or her first grade back to school outfit - yes, a yellow pantsuit, her voice is strong, and her passion and intellect unmistakable. I highly recommend this book.
