A woman looking to escape her past. A man returning to his roots. And someone just beneath the surface, watching their every move...
Quimby Grove, Pennsylvania is the perfect place for a fresh start. After leaving her old life behind, Ellawyn Calloway is finally able to breathe a little easier. She spends all her time at Starlight Books, a quaint bookstore café, and develops a friendship with the elderly shop owner, Benji.
But everything changes when Benji requests that his grandson, Beckett Walden, return to Quimby Grove for a visit. When Ellawyn learns of a devastating threat to Starlight Books, she doesn't think twice, offering to help Beckett run the store.
Ellawyn finds herself letting her guard down piece by piece. But as those walls fade away, an unwanted presence finds a way to slip through the cracks and into Ellawyn’s life. With a stalker on the prowl, Ellawyn is in more danger than she ever imagined.
Through tragedy, Ellawyn and Beckett begin to find love within each other, both oblivious to the real danger that is lurking in the shadows, desperate to get Ellawyn alone.
This book contains themes of cancer diagnosis and treatment, loss, domestic violence, assault, as well as sexually explicit scenes and adult language.
Contemporary Romance indie author with a splash of suspense thrown in. Runs on sarcasm and Pepsi Zero. Lover of books, art, true crime, ghost hunting and all things Disney. Taking applications for future book boyfriends - as always.
I really wanted to like this book. But this felt... Incomplete. The characters lack depth and the plot feels shallow. The manuscript itself needs a better editing. It's not a bad book. But mediocre at best. The writing was nice. It flowed well but it needed a lot of revisions
I really liked the hero and how caring and understanding he was. I also loved the relationship between the hero's grandfather and the heroine. I just wanted some satisfying drama and a better plot. The inconsistencies were piling up at the end.
ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 ⭐️ This is a story about starting over and taking control of your own life. Ellawyn decides to regain control of her life by leaving an abusive boyfriend. After leaving him, she ends up in a small town and gravitates toward the bookstore, Starlight Books, and its sweet owner Benji. Ellawyn spends every day at Starlight and quickly develops a beautiful friendship with Benji. Benji is diagnosed with cancer and calls her grandson, Beckett, home to break the news. At first sight, Ellawyn and Beckett are drawn to each other. It was so beautiful reading Ellie and Beck learn to lean on each other and become stronger together. Also, Beckett owns his own company (we love a business owner). Shannon really showed the rollercoaster that comes with starting your life over. And the poetry Ellie wrote was PERFECT! This book has it all dual POV, small-town romance, suspense, and slow burn. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series (fingers crossed that it’s Max). Great debut album and hopefully we see more of Ellie and Beck in book 2!!!
This is a fantastic contemporary romance that I totally lost myself in and loved reading. This was a new author to me and I’m very glad that I chose to take a chance on this book, as I’ll definitely be reading more of their work. In particular, I’m looking forward to reading more from this series. One thing I don’t comment on much when writing reviews is the book cover. But this book has the very handsome Kamil Nizinski on the cover and that is always a plus point for me. Hero of the book, Beckett’s description matches that of cover model Kamil, so I was able to imagine just how Beckett looks when reading this. A very nice vision to have. As characters, I adored Ellawyn (Ellie) and Beckett. I also have to add that I totally fell in love with Benji too. His role I the book is just as important, if not more important, than Beckett and Ellie. This book had everything you need. I laughed and I cried. There is romance and sexy times but there is also drama and danger. The story just pulls you in and doesn’t let you go. I really can’t wait to see what this author has next for the residents of Quimby Grove.
Sweet, small town charm meets corruption and darkened secrets in this debut novel by Shannon Nikole.
On the run from an abusive ex, Ellawyn finds haven in local Quimby Grove business ‘Starlight Books’, and in the heart of the owner and new friend, Benji. But, when a silent illness calls his grandson, Beckett, home, the last thing Ellawyn expects to find take in the embers of this impending tragedy are the sparks of an insta-love bathed in the glow of her second chance.
This was a nicely written narrative with a dose of angst and emotion that tugged at my heart. Woven amongst the sweet moments was a hefty serving of suspense and the echoes of a past Ellawyn only wished she could forget. The added support that Benji and Max brought to her was lovely and I loved the hints at Max’s past and a story just waiting to be told!
There were elements I would have liked to see a little more weight and depth behind, especially in regards to the motive behind a certain character’s actions and the communication and presentation of Ellawyn’s past and actions, and it’s impact on her now. This would have also helped to clear up some of the questions I carried throughout the book. I also felt there were a lot of fillers used that weren’t always necessary to the emotion and angst being built, and likewise scenes I would have loved to see explored further (eg. her first visit with her parents) that were left out.
That said, Finding Starlight was a rollercoaster ride that I believe would appeal to readers seeking a cute small town romance about healing and survival steeped in a bit of angst, emotion, and suspense.
TWs: domestic abuse, sexual assault, terminal illness, and stalking.
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy of this book. 3.5⭐️
This is a quaint, small-town contemporary romance. It does contain some heavy topics so if cancer, death, stalking and assault are triggers for you this is not the right pick for you!
Pros:
Starting the book reminded me of starting one of my favorite Nora Roberts books, Dance Upon the Air. The main characters in both stories break out of abusive situations to find refuge in a small town bookstore, befriending the owner and sharing their art.
Benji was a gem and I could have really enjoyed more time with him. Same with Max whom I think will have his own story soon (if I’m picking up the right vibes)!
Cons:
Someone shy and nervous about touch and being noticed wouldn’t be comfortable having an orgasm in a store with big windows that anyone could see through. Setting this as the first intimate encounter of the main couple kind of grossed me out. Not because it was gross but because it didn’t fit the setting or characters as I believed I knew them.
I understand a budding romance, but it is irresponsible to leave someone who was just released from the hospital alone for several hours let alone over night. We know Benji had side effect and was struggling, if he had a seizure or his headache worsened to the point of danger he might not be able to call anyone for help. Beckett is too responsible so this seems like a major oversight and I can only image it was added because of the romance.
Why would Beckett have his own house when he isn’t been in town for two years? This makes me question things even more on the care or lack thereof being given Benji. It angers me because it doesn’t make sense. I would never leave someone alone after surgery any longer than running out to grab a prescription or some last minute supply to make them more comfortable. Maybe I’m the odd one in how I care for people but it did make me lose some respect for Beckett and Ellawyn.
Amazing read from start to finish! This was a book that literally had me hooked from its opening statements on the first page! I did not know really what I was into as I started to read, but none the less, it was a thrilling read that made me feel many things! I really enjoyed this novel!
Ellawyn as a character really called to me for things she faced and got out of. As I too was in a similar situation. And she loved to read books! How could I not feel a connection to this character? I loved the moments she shared with Benji. He was a wonderful character. I loved the sweet moments they had and how their chemistry never felt forced. It just flowed. Their story was beautiful. The whole story was in truth. I loved the descriptions of the town as well; it really was immersive with the thoughts and how I pictured it! I truly loved this book, that goes without saying! I can’t wait for the next in the series!
This was a wonderful book that truly touched me. I am very happy I had the pleasure of reading this book that touched my heart strings. Wonderful read. Highly recommend this author/novel/series!
Finding Starlight is the first book in the Quimby Grove series, this can be read as a standalone. We meet Ellawyn who moves to Quimby Grove, Pennslyvania to escape her abusive relationship. She spends a lot of time in the local bookstore (a girl after my own heart) where she meets its owner Benji. Benji has been diagnosed with cancer and has asked her grandson Beckett to return to Quimby Grove to help her. We follow a dual point of view alternating between Ellawyn and Beckett.
I loved the relationship that grew between Benji and Ellawyn, Benji was a lovely character. The slow burn romance between Ellawyn and Beckett was everything I needed. The suspense and tension was more than I could handle and I will admit this made my heart melt and a few tears were shed. i would highly recommend this book!
Trigger warnings for cancer, grief, domestic violence and assault.
This is the first book that I have read from the author, and I really enjoyed the read. Anyone who is really loves romance novels this is the book for you. You will not be disappointed with this read. It was a emotional and suspenseful read that kept my attention from start to finish. A woman looking to escape her past. A man returning to his roots. And someone just beneath the surface, watching their every move... Quimby Grove, Pennsylvania is the perfect place for a fresh start. After leaving her old life behind, Ellawyn Calloway spends all her time at Starlight Books, a quaint bookstore café, and develops a friendship with the elderly shop owner, Benji. Everything changes when Benji requests that his grandson, Beckett Walden, return to Quimby Grove for a visit. I look forward to seeing what the author has in story with this series.
This is such a beautiful but heart-wrenching story of trauma, loss and gaining control of, and living, your life.
After leaving an abusive ex-boyfriend, Ellawyn finds solace in Quimby Grove and Starlight Books. There she meets Benji, the sweetest Bookstore owner, and soon after, his grandson, Beckett arrives to help with the bookstore when Benji becomes ill. Beckett and Ellawyn spark up a quick relationship and while he makes her feel safe, she soon learns she has a stalker. I couldn't put this book down! There is a lot going on!
Finding Starlight has so many sweet details intertwined, the small town feel, the bookstore, her relationship with Benji and Beckett's best friend, Max, the road trip, Ellie's art.. all of it! This was a great read!
First off, the cover is beautiful and fully captivated my attention. I loved the storyline and the characters. Small towns, relatable characters and the unexpected turns and twists kept me from putting this book down. Of all the characters, Benji was my favorite but this has me wanting to stumble into Starlight Books and meet all the characters. Shannon has outdone herself with this book. From the beautiful cover, to the characters and storyline - this book left me wanting more. A lot more! Can’t wait to see what’s next for this series! Definitely adding to my favorites!
A fantastic debut! I quickly found myself rooting for Ellawyn, she is all too relatable, and Beckett was the perfect match for her. But Benji stole my heart…and Max!! I adore Max and can’t wait to hopefully read his story next. Quimby Grove is a picture perfect setting and so is Starlight Books. I cried though, so make sure you have tissues on hand. Check your triggers too.
TWs:
Trauma, abuse, assault, sexual assault (attempted), death and grief, cancer
One word: Wow. I was hooked from the very beginning, and by the end I was gripping my kindle so hard my fingers were white. The characters are relatable enough to make you like them and root for them instantly, and I found myself laughing and crying along with them. What a journey. Highly recommend!
You know that feeling when you open a book and you just get lost !? When retelling the story you talk a mile a minute so you can say as much as you can !? You get so involved that you want to tell anyone who will listen about it !? When you tell people about it they want to know how you know these people because you’re so involved !? Well this is Finding Starlight ❣️📕
I just loved the cover ! I love that there was a bookstore involved and the characters become friends and family 🥰📕
Ellawyn ( what a beautiful name) is on the run from her abusive boyfriend and leaves everyone and everything behind and starts her healing in the quaint town of Quimby Grove .
She discovers Finding Starlight , a bookstore owned by Benji ,who is such a sweetheart and it serves the most delectable treats . Ellawyn is there everyday from open to close and always on the same spot , Benji leaves her to paint and heal . It’s all her fault I started craving grilled cheese sandwiches and vanilla lattes 🤷♀️😂
Benji receives life altering news and his grandson Beckett comes home and when he shares the news I just have a meltdown and my heart breaks into a million pieces but this little family draws close and face it head on but a man obsessed with Ellawyn intervenes in an evil and unkind way and I will not give his name as he doesn’t deserve any acknowledgment and his ticket to the first pits of hell is booked !
While Ellawyn , Beckett , Benji and Max were my people there were other folks that warmed my heart like the kind nurse that helped our Benji and Becketts dear secrestary 🌸
Love is light and Beckett and Ellawyn overcome the darkness and these two people are deserving of every ounce of love and while I didn’t want their story to end I was happy to let them go to live their HEA because I want to see what happens in Max’s life , he’s a catch and the lady who wins his heart is one blessed lady 😍
I was given an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and am providing my honest review. When Ellawyn decides enough is enough she leaves her abusive ex behind and heads to the small town of Quimby Groove. She spends most of her waking hours with Benji at the infamous Starlight Books drinking her vanilla latte, eating her blueberry lemon scones, and working on her masterpieces. When Beckett, Benji’s grandson, comes to town Ellawyn’s heart begins to flutter. When tragedy strikes will the two of them be able to overcome the obstacles? Finding Starlight written by Shannon Nikole has been one of the best books I have read to date this year. Every character in this book is instantly likeable and relatable in many ways. Once I began the book, I could not put it down. It kept me on edge the entire time wondering what was next. I guessed who the stalker was fairly on, however on occasion I found myself yelling at Ellawyn to “watch out”. My favorite character in the book was Max. He was such a great friend to Beckett, taking Ellawyn under his wing when Beckett could not be around. He was so selfless in many ways. My next favorite character was Benji. He had so many stories to tell and I did not want his story to end. He was the type of many who would give you the world without batting an eye. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast paced, quick weekend read filled with love, friendship, and suspense. Thank you, Shannon Nikole, for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Quimby Groove. Trigger Warnings: Cancer, Death, Grief, Domestic Violence, Assault
This book is gonna stay with me for awhile! Ellawyn (I love that name!) is suffering at the hands of her abuser. She needs to get away but she’s scared. One day she musters up the courage and finds herself in Quimby Grove. Ella spends her time in the local bookstore, Starlight Books, eating lemon blueberry scones and drinking her vanilla latte. Benji, the elderly bookstore owner, takes a particular liking to her and they strike up a friendship. Things take a turn for Benji and he mentions that his grandson, Beckett, will be arriving soon and he’d like for them to meet up. Beckett owns an advertising agency but truly misses his home at Starlight Books. He’s ecstatic that his grandfather has called him home for a visit, but at the same time very apprehensive. What could this visit mean for them? Beckett learns the reason and decides he’s going to stay on for awhile and conduct his business affairs remotely. Then he sees her…the girl who stays in Starlight all day long and he has to meet her. From the moment they meet, Beckett and Ellawyn have explosive fireworks all around. Then the messages start up. The threatening calls, notes left on doors…Ella thought she’d left all that behind. Can she open up her heart to someone else? Is she ready to make the next step in her life? This book, as I previously mentioned, is going to stick with me for awhile. These characters are very relatable and loveable! I laughed, I cried, I even wanted to throw my book a few times while learning more about the residents of Quimby Grove. Benji completely stole my heart and I really hope the next book in this series is about Max.
Ellawyn is running from her past, and stumbles into a quiet town which she believes she can live to rebuild herself. While there she spends most of her time is a little bookstore, Starlight Books and becomes friends with the owner Benji. While befriending the older store owner he decides to tell her his secret and that he will not be able to look after the store for much longer, Ellawyn offers to help run the store with Benji’s grandson Beckett.
Once Beckett arrives Ellawyn feels drawn to this man but with her history and the walls she has built up, will she ever feel like she can have a relationship again?
This is the first story I have read by this author. I enjoyed the small-town vibe, and the characters are well developed and written. Ellawyn’s character has been through a lot in her short life, and you feel the reluctance in her trusting anyone especially a man is heart-breaking. With the twists and turns of the story you feel drawn along to help them find out what is going on.
Although, I did feel in places the story was rushed and tried to get you to the conclusion too quickly and then others I felt could have been expanded a little more to give more back story to the characters, but although in saying this it did not deter me away from the book or the story. I would love to read the next instalment in this series and see what happens next.
This is a new author with her first book and I’m very happy that I chose to take a chance on this author, as I’ll definitely be reading more of their work and I can’t wait for the next book in the series. The characters are well written and their quirks make them feel real. The plot was also great. Ellawyn Calloway is finally able to breathe a little easier after leaving her old life behind. Quimby Grove, Pennsylvania is the perfect place for a fresh start and Starlight Books, a quaint bookstore café where she spends all her time. She develops a friendship with the elderly shop owner, Benji. Benji requests that his grandson, Beckett Walden, return to Quimby Grove for a visit and everything changes. When Ellawyn learns of a threat to Starlight Books, she doesn't think twice, offering to help Beckett run the store. She finds herself letting her guard down piece by piece. As her walls fall away, she finds herself with a stalker and now is in more danger than she ever imagined. As Ellawyn and Beckett begin to find love within each other, they are oblivious to the real danger that is lurking in the shadows, desperate to get Ellawyn alone. Can Ellawyn and Beckett overcome the obstacles? Can Beckett help Ellawyn? Will they get a happily ever after or will tragedy strike?
Such a beautiful debut novel. I’m so proud of this author for creating such a wholesome story whilst including very dark topics. (Please check trigger warnings!) I found the amount of romance and flirty scenes in this book perfect. There aren’t any major issues. The book is definitely not a slow burn, the main characters start dating around half way through if that is what you are looking for. I was a huge fan of the relationship we build with the characters and how you don’t want to let go when you finish reading. I am almost sure that there will be more books in this universe which I am waiting very keenly for. Our MC is such a strong, independent woman who has gone through so much. We sympathise with her, loving her and caring for her in our hearts. I finished this book fairly quickly, and as I read online I plan on purchasing a copy to have on my bookshelf as I would love to reread in the future. I am very greatful to be given the opportunity to read this arc and give a review before it comes out. If it is possible please pre-order “Finding Starlight” coming out June 7th, as it will fill your heart with so much love. (and if your wondering it will make you shed a tear or two, or in my case, many).
This book was such a great emotional and suspenseful read that kept my attention from start to finish. Ellawyn escapes an abusive relationship and runs away to find herself and peace again. When she ends up in Quincy Grove she makes friends with the elderly bookshop owner, Benji. They form a bond that is so strong he becomes like family to her, but when his grandson comes to town he delivers some bad news. Ellie and Beckett are determined to do anything they can to help Benji out and the more time they are around each other their attraction builds. Beckett is an amazing character that is loyal, hardworking, loving, and will do whatever he can for those he loves. Ellie has a strength in her that she finds even if it takes her some time to find it. They fall head over heels in love, but between Benji’s illness and a stalker terrorizing Ellie will they be able to survive these events or will it leave them shattered and falling to pieces? I enjoyed this read so much and all the characters that I hope Max gets a story.
What made me attracted to read this book: the book cover and its title. Aesthetically pleasing.
There were several plots that were a bit predictable but the author did a great job at keeping the suspense throughout the flow. The characters were so lovely (I liked them especially Beckett, Benji, Ellawyn, and Max!) and some of the events were relatable to some of us. I would say, what a world we live in to actually have that in reality if we take time to ponder. Pick up this book to find out what I meant here. And oh, Starlight Books is that place that I wouldn't mind spending all the time I have. Trust me, it's somewhere close to heaven for a reader like us! :D Also, I see what you did there, Shannon! I'm already anticipating Max on the next book in this series. Can't wait to get to know more about him!
Finding Starlight: A Small Town, Romantic Suspense (The Quimby Grove Series Book 1)
I was hooked from the beginning and I honestly don't know what it was that got me. Was it Ellawyn and her back story? Was it Benji and how he made everyone feel like family earn they were at Starlight Books, especially Ellawyn? Was it Beckett droppibg everything tge moment his grandfather asked? Not sure, but I couldn't get enough.
I wanted to hug Ellawyn the moment flipped to page two and it never ended. She’s an amazingly strong woman though she definitely doesn't see the strength and continues to focus of what she thinks are weaknesses.
Beckett is every grandparents dream, the moment his grandfather Benji called he dropped everything in Boston and went home without a second thought.
I loved watching Ellawyn grow and come out of her self imposed shell as time passes. Benji had a lot to do with that, but it was so much more than that.
I was surprised to see this was the first book by this author. If this is what she gives us the first time, I'm really excited to read the next book.
Trigger Warnings: Abuse, violence, assault, Finding Starlight is the first book in the brand new series Quimby Grove.
This book follows Ellawyn and Beckett as they navigate their romance while dealing with the chaos of their lives. Ellawyn is new in town, she escaped the horrors of her past life and she’s trying to make a new life for herself. While in Quimby Grove she spends time in this cute bookstore where she becomes friends with the owner, Benji. Benji’s grandson Beckett comes to Quimby Grove to help Ellawyn with the bookstore. This is because of Benji’s health problems.
Ellawyn and Beckett instantly have a connection that goes from friendship to something more.
In my opinion this book was bland. It struggled to hold my interest. The plot was subpar and a lot of things that happened in this book were unnecessary. It felt like things that needed more description were downplayed and vice versa. The characters lacked depth. They were boring to read about.
I enjoyed this suspenseful romance story. I found this story to be well written and hard to put down. The author has great writing skills as well as attention to details that made the story realistic. The characters pull you into the story from the beginning. They are connectable and kept me coming back for more. This is a story where she is running from her past and he is returning home. The problem becomes that there is someone lurking in the shadows. This is where the story turns into action and romance. I found myself hoping these two characters would find their happily ever after but fate may have something else in mind. There is great growth with the characters as well as the plot. I enjoyed their chemistry and watching them grow. This is a great story that I really enjoyed reading. A fun, entertaining story that I highly recommend.
Wow! I think I have found my new favorite book series! Beckett and Ellawyn are total end game. Before reading the book, I kept seeing reviews about Insta-love trope but honestly I don’t think they instantly fell in love. To me, yes, there was instant attraction but Beckett is the dream guy. He saw her trauma and let her heal and initiate things on her own terms.
The romance aspect of this book was delightful. Experience happy love from a traumatic background, stalkers, and heartbreak. Always read trigger warnings and content warnings. Even though this book is absolute beauty there is some deep darkness with the stalker that could be triggering for some.
5/5 stars Spice: 2.5/5 (it was beautiful and not dirty spice 🥰)
I loved Ellawyn & Beckett…so much! Benji & Max were amazing as well! The setting that majority of this book takes place in, is probably one of my favorite settings I have read — Quimby Grove, PA. I found myself being instantly engaged with Ellawyn, and her journey through life. This book had me smiling from crying to gribbing my kindle until my knuckles turned white. The suspense in this book was crazy — but I really enjoyed it.
Thank you for providing me an ARC of this amazing debut! I can’t wait to read more from this author — hopefully we will get Max’s story next 🖤
There are HUGE trigger warnings in this book:
tw: death and grief, cancer, domestic violence, assault
Thank you to the author for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review! I thought this was a great book overall and the author did a great job diving into some really hard themes (check trigger warnings!) - I really felt for the main character as she navigated this new life but I felt she did so with grace and it was a delight to go with her on her journey to get her “power” back so to say.
I thought the two MC’s were great together and really enjoyed where they ended up. The only reason this wasn’t a 5 star for me was that I felt that the love between the two main characters happened a little fast, specifically on Becket’s POVs, it was almost instant. But if that’s your thing I think you’ll love it!
Overall a great and fast read and I’m looking forward to future books in this series!
Finding Starlight is a beautifully written debut, and encapsulates the feels that it provokes. Following Ellawyn, you get the sense of how she fits into her new town and life at Quimby Grove, after leaving an abusive marriage behind. I have to give huge credit, as there many different cliches that could’ve been implemented in the story, but Shannon was wise enough to tell her own story. As someone who has lived in a close knit community before, I can say the characters are believable and wholesome, and there isn’t anything that pulls you out of that reality. This is the definition of a slow burn done extremely well.
Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶/5 Ellawyn decides to start over. Leaving behind her abusive ex she heads for a small town in Pennsylvania. She starts a routine visiting a local bookstore and becoming friends with the owner. When unforeseen circumstances arise, she meets Beckett, the bookstore owner’s grandson. As Ellawyn starts to get to know Beckett all of her walls start crumbling down. In the midst of a crisis will she find her happily ever after or will her past collide with her present? You will just have to read to find out!!😉 This is a small town romance that will give you all the feels! Please check your trigger warnings!
If romantic suspence is your jam, definitely grab this book!
I was hooked from the prologue. And when a small town bookstore, Starlight Books entered the picture, I was totally sold. Add all the fine characters into the picture and (even with all the events that took place) I truly enjoyed getting lost in this story.
Finding Starlight addresses some very heavy issues such as domestic violence, abusive relationships, stalking, loss and grieve - so this story isn’t for everyone but I loved it!
I’m so happy this is the first of the series of Quimby Grove.
Oh how I loved this book. It hit so many emotions that I have felt myself, and I was drawn in from the beginning. Ellawyn or Ellie Calloway leaves Moon Harbor, Maine to get away from an abusive boyfriend. She, like countless women, left her family and everything else behind to get away. Ellie found a place to belong and to be safe in Quimby Grove, Pennsylvania and with Benji. Benji becomes her family and his bookstore her safe haven. Her world is rocked when Benji is diagnosed with a brain tumor. His grandson, Beckett, comes to help, and Ellie and Beckett are drawn to one another. Ultimately this is a love story with a good amount of suspense sprinkled in. But what really made this book spectacular was the growth Ellie experienced. Having been in an abusive relationship myself, I understand how hard it is to overcome the feelings you have about yourself. It takes years to undo the damage done and to not alway be afraid. The way the author described the fight Ellie has within herself is so accurate and well done. This book was well worth every second of my time!
