The Others

A Devoted Companion

Rate this book
Delaney Wells survived a nightmare as a child.

Now a grown woman, she puts on a happy face for friends and family so they don’t worry. When her parents bring her a rescue dog named Kody, she clings to him to ease her loneliness and feelings of isolation.

Kody Powell was born a Shapeshifter. The shape that always came easiest was a small dog he’d seen as a child. When he finds himself captured, locked in pet jail, and adopted by a nice older couple, he bides his time to make his escape.

Then he meets Laney and understands she needs him more than he needs his freedom.

You need this heartfelt love story from paranormal author, Sabrina Rue. It will keep you reading until the very last page.

4 'Good Boy' Stars

I read this sometime in 2013 and never logged it. Because of that, my review will be brief. I loved this. If was touching. A woman who has survived a horrible trauma learns how to open up her heart again after growing to love a dog given to her by her parents. A dog who is really a shifter--a man who is able to shift into a dog called Kody. Kody wants his freedom, but as he gets to know Delaney he grows to care for her not just as a faithful dog, but also as a man. Now he just needs to find a way to let her know.

OK, so this was one of the best shifter books I have ever read. The story is so sweet you get diabetes, but in a good way. The father in me wanted to wrap my arms around Layney and hug her until it was all better. Kody is probably the nicest dog/man I have ever encountered in fiction. I fell in love with him – and I’m straight! These are two amazing characters, and Laney’s parents and Kody’s sister are pretty damn awesome too. Seriously, this is short read, but deals with some very heavy issues (if rape or suicide is a trigger, stay away). But in the end it is a story about friendship, loyalty and love.

BTW, when you hear about Kody’s visit to prison, you will jump up and shout “Yeah!”

Do yourself a favor and read this book.

First off, if someone had told me a while back that one day I would read a book about a dog that changes into a man or a man that changes into a dog and that I would love the so called book, I would have told them that they are crazy! Don't get me wrong, I am pretty open minded, but really how good could this so called book be! Well, let me tell you that it was sooooo good! The only reason I read it was b/c everything else Shayne McClendon writes is so damn good! This book was no exception! It has a great story line, hot love scenes and a HEA! What more could you ask for? A must read!

This was a short read and read it during my lunch break just now. This was really heartwarming and lovely, dealing with pain and loss and also of sacrifice and love.
Everyone should be as lucky to have a Kody in their life, in any form. Laney is lovely, facing her fears and unconditionally accepting of her love. You know when you go into it, there is a HEA, and its a lovely journey getting there. Recommend for light reading.

Warning - There is mention of rape and distress of a juvenile, so people with triggers, should go into this with care. Nevertheless, this book is about hope, so take that into consideration as well.

Wow. Guard your heart with this story! This is a story about Laney trying to get through life carrying total fear In her heart and mind from kidnapping abduction when she was 9! The gift of a dog from her parents gave her hope of having a friend and to get through life feeling normal. Her dog is special. KODY is a shape shifter!! Follow the love and trust during 4 years and how he protects her. There is more to love about these two. Great read Hoping for more stories by this Author!

Shifter tale with a difference

If you love the paranormal you will love this shifter tale. A tale that is a bit different than the usual. But then this author will bring a slightly different twist to most of her work she has a way of grabbing ones emotions in her way with words. Just a bit of a warning. You will get hooked on her work and will be one more of many waiting for the next story.

Cute Love Story

It takes a certain amount of trust to read a story where the H is a shifter in dog form. But I love the author’s other books when she writes as Shayne McClendon and decided to give it a read.
It is a safe read with absolutely NO beastiality Kody’s great and helps the h becomes stronger despite a childhood trauma.
Glad I tried it and I'm looking forward to most from Sabrina.

An awesome read!

I love paranormal as it is but Sabrina has me over a barrel in love with her characters! Not only did her “dog “ realize that his new “owner” needed him more than he needed to be a man he was also surprised when he couldn’t control his change that she didn’t freak out and was understanding of it all!

An uplifting romance between two lonely, damaged souls. He's a dog and she's a college student. Really, just a girl who needs to love someone but is afraid of men and a man who occasionally becomes a dog both meet at the right time in their lives to give each other unconditional love.

It's what happens after he isn't a dog that was super sweet and loving.

Love takes many forms

We all need love and two people find this in each other although one is a dog at the time. This is an amazing story of love at its finest. I loved the original version and adore the changes to this story they did tweak it and make it even more loved by me.

A terrifying experience as she child has Delaney timid around men and scarred for life. Until her parents give her a new dog for comfort and protection. Kody ends up giving Laney much more. Rue is the alter ego of one of my favorite authors and it was nice to read her footprint in a new genre.

So good

Such an interesting take with an added twist. Really a good read. Took a serious subject, a delicate romance and blended a shifted story all together. Love the way this author writes.
