A shadow lurks over DS Ryan Jarrod. It is the shadow of death. Under twenty-four hour surveillance for his own protection following a credible threat to his life, the last thing Jarrod needs is a vigilante killer on his patch - but that's exactly what he gets. In a unit on North Shields fish market, a young woman is found murdered. More than murdered, she's been mutilated. And the killer has carved a message across her abdomen. DCI Stephen Danskin assigns Jarrod to the case and, against his better judgement, enlists the help of criminal psychologist Fola Fasanya. Fasanya convinces them the killer will strike again - because murder is more than just killing. It is a right. As the victim count mounts, Jarrod, Danskin, and the rest of the City and County squad are thrown into a whirlwind of evil - and a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a sadistic psychopath intent on meting out justice with a difference.
Think of Ann Cleeves or LJ Ross with the gritty, urban twist of Ian Rankin - that's the Ryan Jarrod series : explosive crime fiction in the mould of traditional dark thrillers.
What people are saying about the Ryan Jarrod
'Narrative so rich you can smell the Tyne’ 'Crying out to be a TV series or motion picture!' ‘The pace of James Patterson' 'A Geordie Rebus’ 'Felt every pain and anguish. Story line excellent and what an ending.' 'Wow! Colin Youngman you've done it again! You've penned another blinder of a novel.' 'A real page-turner' 'Excellent twists and turns. More Ryan Jarrod, please.'
Cleverly plotted, suspenseful yet credible, this is a well written crime thriller set in the north east of England, like most of the author’s books. Brutal in parts, but not out of context, this is a good page turner that does the author credit. There are some technical and grammatical errors, and it would benefit from the attention of an editor/proof reader, but that said it’s a worthy addition to the bookshelf of any fan of crime fiction.
I’ve really enjoyed these fast-paced Geordie yarns. We’ll scripted but in need of better proof reading. In the DS Jarrod series the author often uses the wrong names, hence only four stars.
Brilliant again . Some of the ways the killings were carried out did make me wonder where about the sanity of the author and where he gets his ideas from especially the killing of the man in the tunnel . OMG that had me reaching for my own bits. Truely enjoyable read when is the next edition released ?
Another excellent story in the Ryan Jarrod series set in an area we all know and love. Great characters and a story with plenty of twists and turns and a great ending. Looking forward to reading more in the series.
