A region divided by blood and betrayal. A darkness that threatens to rise once more.
Darius Rarkez, Prince of Vlencia, was on the brink of becoming an elite knight of the Crimson Guard when he was harshly exiled. Against the odds, he survived the ordeal of his banishment and took refuge amidst a guild of notorious thieves in neighbouring Elron.
For ten agonising summers, he swapped his study of the sword for the art of stealing, but now Darius wants out of Estos altogether. To start anew somewhere far away from his troubled past and present. However, such freedom requires gold—and lots of it.
So, when the guild faces its most daring and lucrative raid yet, Darius seeks the foresight of a banished seer. What he receives, instead, is a chilling prophecy. One that foretells war, devastation, and the revival of an ancient enemy long considered dead.
The sky gods have marked him as their vanguard, but will Darius forgo his shot at a new life to help the very kingdom that discarded him?
vulgar language: 1- comments on whore houses prostitution and genital parts. (I can sometimes overlook even very disgusting writers like Horror Torture Chapter writer Man RR Matin if the characters are very well written)
2- Main character lame was a grey morals blob - basically a selfish person who only could be considered somewhat good as he will not murder an unarmed lady but has no problems grouping with killers who plunder and murder men.
3- I am ok with a very baddy character like the very early writing of the Drittz enemy thief/fighter guy. But the writer can not seem to decide if his main character is a honorable knight type or whiney thief man child.
4 I was not impressed with the night time cougar attack it was rather silly and dull and supposed to be an amazing exciting encounter.
I guess if you have nothing else to read you could read this- but the writing is average and the characters are dull and the story seems like a rework of Tolkien but with a Jonah main character
A fast paced good read. Something is always happening which I can appreciate. Not considering the later books, I can see why the reviews aren’t higher. However, if I can give you two pieces of advice when reading this series: 1 - These books are best enjoyed in quick succession of one another imo 2 - Reading to yourself out loud may be strange, but I found the book to feel much more immersive and paint a much sharper image when read out loud.
Bought for the kindle It's not bad, and I enjoyed the quicker, shorter novel size of it.
I just wish there was more before there was a 10-year skip. The trudging through the forbidden forest, weakening our protag, to the point of breaking his vow made in the first chapter not to speak to anyone.
That's a novel in of itself, and would have made this just that much better.
