Exploited Blood #1

The Onslaught

Rate this book
It comes in waves.

It's already too late for most of us. Walking around with bio-bombs ticking away in our bloodstreams. Bombs that are synchronized to go off together. Before you know it you're diving into the deep end of depravity. A pool of insanity you're never coming back from. Surfacing once or twice to witness the horrors you've caused before your soul takes a deep breath and disappears forever.

It's not natural.

The infections occurring simultaneously across the globe prove it's not a freak phenomena. Someone is behind the pandemic that's turning people into insane cannibals. Who'd benefit from so much death and chaos though? The humanity of whatever group pulled the trigger on this madness is seriously up for debate.

There's No Vaccine

Chris watches as the world around him falls apart. Bitten by a loved one he hovers in a feverish state for weeks. His recovery carefully observed by a group that considers itself above humanity. A group that sees people as prey. Chris becomes a pawn in the war to determine the future of mankind. Follow him as he evolves from being a frazzled twenty something college educated mama's boy into something more. Hopefully it's enough.

Living in a lighthouse as a child led me early to a love of reading. Despite what you may have been told the life of a lighthouse keeper's son is not all Glamour and Parties. There's a lot of time when there really isn't much to do besides wonder if the fog horn has finally made you deaf or watch your dad pull fishing lures out of different parts of people's bodies. (You'd be amazed!)

Two of my favorite houses growing up!

description

I read. I read a lot. We had a 'reading caterpillar' around the room at my school where every time you read a book you put your name on your color paper and hung it up. The teacher had to give me two colors because it was looking more like a worm than a caterpillar. I devoured CS Lewis before moving on to Tolkien. Reading has continued to be a big part of my life. I've moved into Alternative Realities by guys like Stirling and my guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. I can't seem to get enough of them!

I like reading about the extremes people will go to to survive. The ones who can rise above the rest and keep their sense of right and wrong. When humanity crumbles around them these flawed heroes stand tall and try to make their way. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to keep themselves and others alive. I like to see how this either hardens or breaks them. I think these stories speak at a very primal level. I enjoy the journey greatly as I get to tag along seeing how the survivors manage and how the experience forges them into something more than they were.

I look forward to sharing the journey with you all!

Sincerely,

R S Merritt

A new take on the zombification of the world with a hugely interesting premise. Really liked this book and am looking forward to seeing where this tale goes.

something completely different

This is my first read from this author. What a ride this book has been. It’s definitely not your typical zombie apocalypse story that’s for sure. Without giving any spoilers, I knew something was up with Lynn, when she slipped and said decades, not decade. And I was right, however it wasn’t what I expected when all the truth came out. I also got a “ Slow Burn” ( Bobby Adair) feel once Chris met Ortega. The way they bantered with each other and their friendship grew. Plus the bald crazy zombies. With all that aside, I really enjoyed this book, it was refreshing, and I am looking forward to the next chapter in Chris’s crazy life.

Good!

What an interesting take on the zombie genre which is, hélas! too often overwhelmed with clichés! Not this time! Not only it differs A LOT, but what an unexpected twist at the end!

The monster

The story is good. It's telling what to do if love one is infected. It's strange that he is the only person that does not stay a monster.

It was a great book, until the dead found Chris at his second, Lynn provided, safe house. The convoy part dragged on and on… thee convoy is being attacked, windows are breaking, people are dying, people are shooting, cars and trucks are crashing, the convoy is being attacked, windows are breaking, people are dying, people are shooting, cars and trucks are crashing, the convoy is being attacked, people are dying……..

Not bothering with book 2.

So I have read all of the author's zombie/infected books and enjoyed them. This one has a little bit of a different twist, due to a sort of urban fantasyish type of connection. I'm interested to see how that is explored in the upcoming novels. I loved this one as it kept up a good pace and Chris's character was fun to read.

Very good

Typical R S Meritt series. Take a deep breath, run, shoot, wrestle, punch, get punched, deep breath and do it over again and again. Get the picture? A great great read.

Great, interesting story

I enjoyed reading this story. Now I have to get the next book in the series. It did need a final final editorial polish in a couple places, but I know how difficult it is to get manuscript absolutely perfect. Not jarring enough to disrupt the story-dream.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I enjoyed the characters and story line. Sometimes it stretched the believable factor of the story. It is definitely a page turner. The authors note at the end was awesome.

Excellent read and an original take on the zombie theme. I want to avoid spoilers but the plot and world building in this one is complex - and you won't just get a whole lot of information dumped on you. It literally unfolds for you as it unfolds for the main character, and you are never really sure where the story is going to go or what is around the corner (although sometimes, as with any good zombie book, it is best not go look around the corner). I'm looking forward to the next book and an even more expansive opening up of the story.

4.5 ⭐️s I really love R.S.Merritt books. I’ve read all of his Zombies! And Crawlers novels (on Audible) and find them to be entertaining, story driven, action packed books. I like all of the characters he creates and each series has different aspects that make them unique and worth reading. This one was different with the intro to Vampires and an entire plot I didn’t even think of as the story progresses. I’m happy to continue reading this series and just downloaded book 2 on Audible. 😊

Exploited Blood

WOW, what a great book.
I read this book in two day. At first the story had grabbed my good. Then the story added a great twist. And off I went reading as fast as I could. I wanted the story to last. So I looked up the book and to my joy there are 5 more books to the series.
I’m going to get the next book in line.

Thank You R. S. Merritt

This zombie book started out a little questionably but hit its stride & I couldn’t stop listening. Great narration! Interesting infection and who’s behind it! Chris and Ortega have a good banter! A couple secondary characters have been great! Love the twist at the end! Can’t wait for book 2! Book was gifted by Matthew Crow.

Was mediocre, rushed story that ended abruptly. This is one of those ‘ not really a book, just a piece of a book’ because it’s been broken up into installments. I hate these type of marketing and the story was definitely not good enough for me to invest in the second book, free or not.

Awful, couldn't get past the selfishness of the protagonist. His disregard for fellow victims (and violence against them, some children) felt like a major plot hole, it made absolutely no sense at all. Couldn't finish the book.
