Alistair 'Sandy' MacRae Farquhar, by reputation, is the country's worst-ever serial killer. Convicted of four murders, police have directly implicated MacRae to another five suspicious deaths, with it rumoured around underworld circles to amount to twenty-eight. In Monsters of the Mallee: Volume One, we delve into the deep history of this psychopath, speaking with the lead investigator, Detective Sergeant John Kennedy. JK not only provided me with a wealth of insight, but also the official interviews with MacRae and his co-accused. But it does not end here, as it appears with good wine is a murderous monster. So join me, as I explore many more reviews of suspicious death around this unique locality.
An interesting look at some crimes in the history of the Mallee region. Written quite factually, at times it felt a little boring and a lot of the stories ended abruptly but it was still a good insight and I learnt a lot about the past of the region and some of the crimes that occurred here from the 60s to the 90s. Thank god for the advancements in DNA analysis and forensics!
I genuinely enjoyed this book. I pass through the picturesque town of Mildura several times a year, although had no idea the extent of its murderous history. Looking forward to a second volume.
