When a family of 4 goes missing seemingly in the dead of night, Blake Wilder and her team are called to find the young family and determine the reason for their sudden disappearance.
Change is the only constant in life. It’s a lesson FBI Agent Blake Wilder is having to learn all over again. Summoned to DC by a Bureau legend, Blake is excited, imagining big things on the horizon for her team. That excitement though, is quickly dashed as her entire world is instead, turned upside down and she’s left to pick up all the pieces.
A reorganization within the Bureau has stripped Blake of her command and the unit she’d given her blood, sweat, and tears to build, turned over to somebody else. In this new role though, she is given a case that takes her team to Colorado to investigate a missing persons case. There she finds that nothing is as it seems. Blake is having to adjust to this new world and her new team members as she finds herself caught up in a web of international intrigue, espionage, and cold-blooded murder.
New enemies rise, and old adversaries come to the forefront as Blake and her team race to find a man and his family being hunted by a ruthless organization. The sands of the world are shifting beneath her feet. Nobody and nothing is what she believes and Blake doesn’t know who to trust.
With the lives of the young family on the line, Blake juggles the danger that surrounds her, the changes that she faces, and the perplexing mysteries regarding what happened that night at The House on the Hill.
Elle Gray lives in a small town with her 2 cats, and her handsome husky. As a girl, she was obsessed with crime novels and thrillers.
Today, she loves writing and creating thrilling novels with courageous, strong heroes/heroines and dangerous psychopaths. She invites you to join her exciting world of detectives and FBI agents that take down killers and kick butt.
I have found another series to follow, I picked this book up to start my journey with Blake Wilder. Although it is 11th in the series, I was still able to follow along with most of it. It just makes me want to start with episode 1 and continue on.
I enjoyed very much reading The House on the Hill. I like the new characters. The story had slot of twist and turns. Looking forward to Elle Gray's next book.

More a mystery, less of a thriller. Wouldn’t suggest as a stand-alone.
This is a new-to-me author and series, but I didn’t have problems getting into this quick-read book. There are unexplained references to politician(s) and conspiracists in the federal government—which are probably arcs running through this series.
Blake Wilder, the FBI agent protagonist, has been “demoted” and newly saddled with a supervisory section chief—due to a reorganization after a change in FBI directors. I predicted that the section chief would be an overbearing POS, who will obstruct Blake. More, Blake has been assigned two new agents—one or both may be the section chief’s mole(s). More stress: Blake & team are in the process of moving into a new, purpose-built office building.
The mystery and villain(s) are more predictable than expected. I guessed that Blake’s newbies would be minorities. Nina Alvarado is a pretty Latina who wears well-worn, off-the-rack clothing, plus she has a tattoo and blue-streaked hair. Lucas Okamura is an Asian, who is short, lean, clean-shaven, has a short haircut, and is a go-getter. Yeah, clichés, but the author tries to make them less so.
This is a readable mystery, but the ongoing arcs went nowhere. Although most threads are tied off, the author adds—to last chapter—a twist leading to a cliffhanger, probably for readers who follow this series.
Loved the continuation of Blake’s story. Initially, I wasn’t thrilled with the changes introduced in this book for Blake and her team. But it keeps you on your toes, questioning what’s coming next, and who might be involved. Change is the only constant and Blake has brought strong winds of change and chaos into her career from influential, deeply imbedded, enemies. But who are they?
As Blake’s revamped team (very happy to see her original team is still with her) takes on national level cases, you can only wonder how The Thirteen are going to play into the new assignments. High level government corruption and international espionage leaves you questioning who can be trusted and wondering just how close the danger might be hiding.
The end of book 11 leaves us anxious to hear how Kit is doing and book 12!
This was a fantastic story, and a great addition to the series. There were a lot of changes in this story, some good, and some definitely not. With these changes comes a lot of questions, distrust, secrets, lies, betrayals, and more. Add in the complex and intriguing case that was given to the team, and it's almost more than they can handle. It's certainly going to be interesting to see where the series goes from here. The only thing that I didn't really like was the cliffhanger ending. The case itself was completed, but it's one of the secondary plots involved with the ending. Hopefully the next release will be out soon. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
this is the 11th book in the Blake Wilder FBI series. Blake has a team of 4and they get along well. Her boss Rosie is tough but they blend well together. SSA Stone is a legend in the bureau and when Blake is called in to talk to him she doesn't know why. There has been a shakeup in the Bureau and Blakes team which she built has been taken away from her. Her boss Rosie has been promoted and Blake and the team she worked with are being moved to another floor and office with a new boss. When she meets her new Chief they clash and than she gets 2 new team members which she didn't get to choose. She is handed a case of a missing family and her new boss wants to micro manage her. Leads to a lot of friction but Blake either has to do her job or lose it.
Elle Gray's books are well-written and her Blake Wilder character as well as the supporting cast are well developed. My biggest complaint is after reading eleven books the underlying cliff hanger is really starting to drag out. Carrying that through eleven books is too much. Please end it already and move on. Please, let Blake's character develop past this seemingly never ending move that is being seen as a plot device just designed to sell your books. As good as the books are, if it wasn't for my free book account, I would have quit reading much sooner.
I love this series, but I found Brake's petty and childish behavior towards her new boss off-putting and sort of unbelievable. Especially when she dressed down an employee for doing the same thing to her. It was hard to believe she was being disrespectful to her boss in front of her direct reports. That just wouldn't be allowed, and the person keeps their job. This ongoing behavior makes the book hard to read. The character is too old to be acting like that. She also seems to be too slow on connecting some dots on who to trust and too quick to blow off opposing ideas. It made for tedious reading at times.
Another great read. With Blake and her group being moved and given a new Director and Supervisor, Blake has to make the grand adjustment. They've given 2 additional staff picked by the new super. Rosie was promoted and the team cover from the basement to new quarters on the 14th floor. Adjustments for everyone. After a couple weeks, the team gets a new case to work. With a new Micomanaging supevisor Blake has her hands full. She has anew guy to break in and shows it not going to be easy. Believe me when I say they keep getting better. Enjoy ok
My favorite Gray work so far. Blake gets a pair of new bosses and a new case, or is it? Is the Keller family missing or just off somewhere. A little help comes from the Agency through her one new boss they still don’t find the definitely missing family. Two new members are added to her team and that doesn’t really help. Then the shots ring out. Was one intended for Blake? A great read!
A great spellbinding thriller! The continuation of Blake Wilder's story in The House on the Hill captures you from the start and does not let go, even at the end. I love the introduction of the new characters into her team and can't wait to see their development and how they end up fitting in. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves a well written mystery. Very well done 👍
The FBI are changing things up and Blake is included in the change. A new mystery starts up and Blake is fit to be tied. She doesn't like change and is having a hard time adjusting. Her team is being changed and she's not sure who to trust. A family is missing and clues are hard to find. As her team figures out the case, you don't want to quit reading until you find out what happens. Definitely a "5" star book. Good until the last page.
The entire series has so far been exhilarating! Continuing the characters throughout is one reason I’ve read them all. Love the continuous flow of the people as well as the storyline!
One thing, in this book, that I found confusing, however, is why nobody noticed the door had been kicked in. That happened seconds after Brad was told by his wife that she felt she was being watched. How do the first responders not notice that?
I can't wait to read book 12. Each book gets better, more twist and turns. Blake has been placed in a new work situation that has brought new challenges in to her life. Elle has developed strong characters throughout her books. Introducing Ayad, Lucas and Nina was interesting. Wondering how those characters will develop. Always looking forward to reading another of her books.
I came to this series late and after reading one out of sequence had to immediately go to the beginning book. I love the way the characters have grown and evolved as the story continues. In this Blake has been rocked by a big change in addition to all she deals with in her job. The back story regarding her sister, Kit and The Thirteen are never far from Blake’s thoughts either. On to # 12 - The Missing Girls
I like the team that works together. Tired of the "Thirteen" hanging over everything with nothing being done about them. There is too much "gut instinct" and not enough real evidence. And, seriously, she's never done anything illegal? What about Brody? I'll see how many more of these there are. If there is one or two, I may finish the series. If not, I'm tired of hanging on.
I love this series of books. It's hard for me to stop once I start reading each book. Strong character development. The story moves at a good pace. This book though I'm wondering what happened to the neighbor sending footage of their doorbell cam? I've noticed some editing mistakes but not so bad that it's distracting. Overall engrossing and I can't wait to read the next one!
I’m grateful that I happened upon the Blake Wilder series by Elle Gray. I love Gray’s writing. Her characters are well developed. So much that if she stopped identifying which character was speaking, I’d be able to tell you who was speaking. Blake Wilder is smart, loyal, and fierce with a side of humility when called for. Onto the next book in the series.
Elle Gray and the Blake Wilder team is what got me hooked on this genre. I wait impatiently for the release of the next book, only to find that I've finished it and have to wait, once again. But let me tell you. It is 100% worth the wait. Don't wait, hesitate or procrastinate reading this series. I love this author and the stories she so brilliantly tells.
Who do you trust? Who can you rely on? Who has your back? Or should the questions go in a different direction. Why are there so many road blocks? What is happening beyond your reach? Who is pulling the strings? Is someone out to get you? If so, why? So many questions that need answers and that is what makes a very interesting and engaging read.
Loved this mystery! Many twists and turns. I was never bored. I like the main characters and that's due to the character development that the writer has carefully written throughout each of her series. I'm so glad that I found Elle Gray! I look forward to new books in her series.
I have enjoyed this series. I would recommend. I can't wait to see if Kit is okay. I don't tell what is in the books I read. That is for you to read and find out. If you can get Audible with the books, it really brings the characters to life. Off to my next adventure.
Not great but better than the one before it. Gonna go backwards again? Why can't you have this lady move forward for awhile. Just because she's FBI doesn't mean she has to doom & gloom ALL the time. Romance and sex once in awhile could liven things up. God, we're not talking marriage or anything. She is in a rut. !! Tweety🐦🐦
The House on the Hill(Blake Wilder FBI Mystery Thriller Book 11)
OMG!!!!!!!!! This book had a missing family, the CIA, the Russians, and espionage. And now Kit has been shot. Blake and her new boss are in a power struggle, I hope they can learn to work together. On to the next one.
I couldn't stop reading this story as I needed to find out how it would finish. There was a lot of theories and plans worked on and changed. Lots of questions of how and why. At least Blake and her team found the family. But the ending was not totally good as one died.
Excellent story! Excellent writing, intriguing characters - and again, a killer who isn't just killing for the sadistic fun of it. The book delves into political shenanigans within government organizations, and dangerous government employees that are anything but "public servants." Good stuff!
Blake and her FBI team have had a recent shakeup by being assigned to a new unit. Their first case is investigating the disappearance of an entire family. Nothing is what it appears to be and there are many twists and turns along the way. A great read and I can’t wait to start the next book.
