I’ve always known the truth about monsters, so I’m not surprized when they come for me and drag me Under.
When I surface in their brutal world, I have only one goal at first and that is to survive. And to survive, I’ll need to find a sliver of compassion inside one of these twisted monstrous beings and convince him to become my protector. The only thing I have to offer is myself.
All I can do is surrender and hope that he doesn’t devour me.
But when we are attacked, it is clear I will need more than one protector if I am to survive and escape.
Delve into the dangerous monster filled world of Under in this rough and steamy mfmm dark monster romance.
This steamy book has big heroes with horns and tails and claws, and a heroine who refuses choose between them. Each book in the trilogy will add new monsters to protect her on her quest.
Where aliens rule the skies, and mates are captured and claimed is where Riley is happiest writing. Her heroes are powerful and her heroines are their match and their romance will ignite your imagination.
When not exploring other worlds and civilizations, Riley lives in Fremantle, Australia. One day she plans on growing up and doing something sensible with her life, but today is not that day.
We all believe in monsters under our beds when we are children but Julie knows there are monsters because they took her mother and almost got her. The fear is always in the back of her mind that the monsters will one day get her. When Julie decideds to take control of her life and kick her no good, lazy, user of a boyfriend out her fears become reality and she is pulled into the under. The first monster she encounters when waking into the under she makes a deal with to keep her safe and help her find a way out. Each minute, each decision, each battle can change you into a monster that takes away your memories. So the question is.....is there a way to escape the under? Julie has made a deal with three monsters for protection and help finding the answer to that question. Book one has built and world full of monsters in all shapes, forms and abilites and we learn some of the rules that Julie must learn. I look forward to seeing how the relationship with Julie and her monsters progress and maybe even the possiblity of finding their way back home. A very interesting concept within a world that should be nothing but nightmares but is so much more than we can imagine.
I would give 5 stars, because the story is impressive and unique. I never have read a book similar to that. And monsters are one of my favorite genres.
The reason I subtract one star is a little tricky to explain. I mean, I get the connections between the characters. I love how it changes, but the situation is difficult and makes it not easy to keep it up. Therefore, there are questionable moments. Especially with Tail. I didn't like how he acts in temper and how calculating he is in some way. With their thoughts, I still know there are human traits, but keeping them is hard. So, I can accept the ambivalent actions in Under.
Generally, I have a thing for twisted and psychopathic stories and characters. But mostly, I like it, if it's against others, and not the inner circle. Though, I think they have to make mistakes to learn something from it here.
So, it's unique, and I love the relationships they have, and I'm excited to see, what will happen next, but I can't get over the feeling of ambivalence completely. It's even sad in some way. Thinking about that, they lose things, they will never get back.
Julie has always known about the monsters that lurk in the dark. She was saved from them once, but the only thing that protected her has been stolen. When they come for her this time there is no escape, but she decides to anything she needs to do to survive Under. She quickly discovers that she needs the protection and the only thing she has to offer the very male monsters who find her is her body.
I think these are absolutely fascinating characters. They are well written, unique, and their interactions are intriguing. Steamy, twisted, sometimes violent, and some surprising twists in the plot kept me engrossed from the first page to the last. I loved this book.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This story hits the ground running with Julie sucked into the Under, a nightmare realm of monsters that she grew up fearing after her mother was taken when she was a toddler. When she appears in the Under, she strikes a bargain of sex for protection with the first monster she sees. Horn protects her at great risk to himself, since fresh meat is always hunted in the Under, and every time he fights he risks losing more of his humanity. The world building is fresh and interesting, with simple rules that lead to very creative applications. I liked the characters, and the way their outer appearance mirrors their inner fears, traumas and desires. This is a dark and twisted tale, sure to please monster lover fans with a taste for dubcon and interesting peens. With its horror inspired setting, Coldest Claws is the perfect monster romance for the Halloween season. Warning it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger so be prepared to dive into book 2! (the trilogy is complete)
This is a little twisted, and very different. It shows how we are all monsters inside if we don't try not to be. It also makes you think what would you do to survive ? Definitely not for everyone, if you don't like monsters that look like monsters and what they have to do to survive in a horror land then read at your transgression. If you can look past that and see the story inside than take a chance on this one.
Julie knows there are monsters. She is taken to the Under, as she calls it. She is rescued by a monster she names Horn and they make a deal. He takes her to his home that he shares with Tail. They then embark to the center to see if they can return home. They discover a new monster which she names Talon. As he has been to the Center. But there is a bump along the way. A TBC story.
This is an extremely intriguing concept with monstrous characteristics being created based on actions/thoughts. Under and the puddles as portals were very horrific and cool at the same time. I will definitely read the next book.
I wouldn't recommend this if you are very new to monster romance and will be put off if you can't handle spicy scenes with barely humanoid "monsters." 🌶🌶🌶
This exciting new series grabs you and won’t let you go. What I love about this book is how imaginative and different it is from this type of genre. The trip Under…scary, I felt anxiety, that’s how immersed you get while reading this excellent prose. Can’t wait for the next book! ❤️❤️❤️
Blurb: I’ve always known the truth about monsters, so I’m not surprized when they come for me and drag me Under. When I surface in their brutal world I have only one goal at first, and that is survive. And to survive I’ll need to find a sliver of compassion inside these twisted monstrous beings. I only have one thing to offer my three would be protectors…myself.
Coldest Claws: dark monster romance trilogy, the first book of the Under series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). An interesting concept, but Julie is too much the damsel to keep my attention. Good writing style, but the content is not my cup of tea, I'll stop with this novel.
I’ve never come across the concept of a world where people become the monsters they believe themselves to be and can change back by changing their thoughts. The plot is interesting and the characters grew on me. I’m definitely interested in finding out more!
There were some really weird bits, but I ultimately liked the world and the story. It lost me at the end, so I won't be continuing, but it was still worth the read.
