Perhaps I am biased, as the last name gives it away, but I was so impressed by her work! My aunt brought forth clear images of places and times from distant childhood memories, that are relatable for anyone. The expansive time period that this book covers, and knowing that this work has been in the works for so long is incredible. I believe this is a great read for anyone looking to enter a quiet, calm space in the mind and heart!

I found that with this collection-as I've found when I've read Laura's work in the past-her writing is beautiful and accessible. When I first read through a couple of the pieces she includes in Hindsight Notwithstanding, I was surprised to realize that I was crying; I had been gently invited and drawn into the honest and quiet places she has created. There are poems (and places) in this collection that I have already returned to several times. It lives on my desk.

The images in this collection stand out and bring to mind the "no ideas but in things" phrase attributed to William Carlos Williams. This rings true especially in Zaino's poem Filigree, with a lost child's description of gold buttons on her mother's jacket. I applaud this author's debut book.

Laura has a beautiful way of finding poignant phrases that bring you back to a specific, but simple memory with the ease and elegance of just a few words. The landscape of the imagery feels so fresh and familiar with her descriptions. I loved how the poems were organized into different sections. I look forward to reading more of her works!

Absolutely phenomenal read! If you are a lover of poetry Laura’s writing will intrigue you. I love poetry that makes you think, visualize and envision perspectives. Which is the ride you step into once you pick up this wonderfully written quick read.
