Rediscover this “lyrical look at how a community heals, how families recover, and how individuals grow” (The Washington Post) with the complete Beartown trilogy in one unputdownable ebook from the #1 New York Times bestselling author Fredrik Backman.
In the “beautifully told” (The New York Times Book Review) Beartown—which inspired the HBO series of the same name—a small town obsessed with the local junior hockey team is rocked by a shocking act of violence. As accusations and rumors fly, the town must grapple with its identity as never before.
Tensions rise when it’s rumored that the Beartown hockey team will be disbanded in Us Against You. The entire future of the team and the town hinges on an upcoming game that could change everything forever.
Finally, the series that “deftly explores recovery and rebirth” (Us Weekly) comes to an evocative conclusion with The Winners. In the two years since the events of Beartown, the residents must face difficult questions and determine just want they are willing to sacrifice for their home.
Fredrik Backman is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Man Called Ove (soon to be a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks), My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry, Britt-Marie Was Here, Beartown, Us Against You, as well as two novellas, And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer and The Deal of a Lifetime. I just finished reading this series, and I’m trying to find words to describe how amazing it is while still bawling my eyes out. The writing style was an adjustment at first, but the story was so immersive. You fall in love and hate with characters. You question people who live in the morally grey areas.
I feel like this trilogy was just way to long and drug out. The endings of each book was wonderful but didn’t really fill the need that you just had to read the next one. The middle of each book just felt like it went on and on. I’m glad I read this but I’m equally glad I’m finished.
Hands down, best series/books I have EVER read. A little of everything, and masterfully created characters you grow to know and love as if you actually know them and can relate to their mental gymnastics of coping with a devastating event, and the domino effect it creates. I cannot recommend these books more. Phenomenal. I don’t even give a rat’s behind about hockey, just SUCH a good story. I’ve now read each 3 times, and probably will again and I don’t think I’ve ever read a single book more than once before these. Fredrik Backman’s finest (I’ve read them all).
What a journey! Beartown can definitely be a stand-alone book however I highly recommend continuing with the series. Backman is a master at depicting the most tender and ugliest pieces of being a person of any age. The series dives into deep and dark issues while equally showcasing lovesble characters. I will genuniley miss the world of Bear Town. I listened to the series but recommend reading it. It’s a slow-burn and I think I would have enjoyed the series even more if I intentionally spent time reading it. 💜❤️🩹😭
Fredrik Backman has a way of ripping out my soul and giving it back to me. He has such a poetic, beautiful understanding of life, people, love, and community. These books are beautiful. I cried, smiled, laughed, and had profound thoughts reading this series, and honestly, anything by Backman. I would recommend anyone and everyone read him.
I'm not a sports fan, I know absolutely nothing about hockey, and I still loved this entire collection. Yes, it is about a town's obsession with hockey but its also about family, love, loyalty and self discovery. I loved it.
I love Frederick Backman. This book was no exception. The subject is very difficult but Mr. Backman presents the various perspectives brilliantly. It is hard to read sometimes because of the weight of the subject but this was so well done. Wonderful. Terrible but wonderful.
One of my absolute favorites. Perhaps the best opening sentence of a book that I have ever experienced. “Late one evening toward the end of March, a teenager picked up a double-barrelled shotgun, walked into the forest, put the gun to someone else's forehead and pulled the trigger.”
This left me shattered. I loved all of it so much I never wanted it to end. The writing was amazing. So many feelings at different moments. Characters developed so well. Truly the best series Ive read. I wish there was more.
I loved these books. Heartwarming, riddled with foreshadowing the lives of the members of this small community are shared with the reader. There is heartbreak and love. I highly recommend these books!
Thoroughly enjoyed all three books. These probably could be read as stand alone books as background is given at times throughout the story line in books 2 and 3.
