After a thousand dates and hookups, I'd given up . . .
. . . and then the doorbell rang.
Michael was a newborn gay not too many years ago. His first date was accidental. The ones that followed were adventures.
Now, in his thirties, he wonders if finding a lasting relationship is even possible. Frustrated by the internet's failure to find true love, Michael swears off dating, determined to focus on his career.
Then Heath shows up at his doorstep.
You'll love this book because every guy dreams of his own happy ending.
My Last Date is the final volume in the hilariously cheeky, best-selling Raised by Wolves series, a contemporary MM romance series about a newborn gay finding himself. It includes hurt/comfort, found family, sexual awakening, living with HIV, and a guy who finally realizes who he is and what he wants.
These books chronicle a young man's life and are best enjoyed in series order.

4.5 Stars. Audiobook. Different but wonderful. The journey of a young man questioning his desires and exploring the many options out there. Non-traditional romance, this is not a story of a boy finding The One right away, it’s the long sexy road towards that partner. 5 book series, following the same maybe-not-straight twenty something as he dates around and sleeps in lots of different places. There is romance, we see a new relationship bloom and wither in each book until he does find The One. There is also the sometimes-silly, sometimes-poignant coming of age shenanigans as we see many bed partners, ranging from a first crush, a casual hook-up, a no-name escapade, dating a single dad and being part of a couples fantasy. Lots of exploration and discovery on the road.
No actual wolves or shifters, lol! Contemporary, present day, nothing paranormal what so ever. I always thought that “raised by wolves” meant being raised wild/rough/uncivilized, but this author seems to mean it as being raised in a very strict religious family. Since I try not to read blurbs, I honestly thought this was going to be a wolf shifter paranormal story. It’s not.
The narration grew on me, it became more and more perfect as we got to know the MC, single POV, one narrator doing multiple voices really well. By the end, I don’t think anyone could have done a better job, especially the quite introspective moments, with softened voice and sighs. Really great job by Jon Curtis.
After several painful breakups, there’s finally a HEA
The whole series has been funny and sad in equal measure, but this time the HFN gets swapped to HEA. Autobiographical, they all read like the truth, and despite a lot of humour my eyes kept leaking. I dislike Carter, REALLY don’t like Ryan, but Heath makes up for all the bad.
The final installment of this series is just as entertaining and satisfying as the rest. Don’t miss a single volume or you may never catch up. Speaking of things not to miss, be sure to read the author’s notes at the end. I like novels written in first person point of view because they sound more real. Well, this series actually is real.
Here’s to “Michael” and Casey’s happily ever after. It’s not just a story it’s a journey.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
My Last Date is the last part of the ‘Raised by Wolves’ series and documents Micheal’s journey to his happy ever after. He is definitely plagued by wolves in the early chapters of this part. He begins deeply in love with Ryan who seems like a great guy until the wolves get their claws into him, the wolves being two of their best friends. Micheal and Ryan are tempted to join these friends on vacation to some ‘hot spots’. This is the beginning of the end for the two of them.
The bulk of the book is concerned with how Micheal pulls himself together and makes a life for himself, a really successful and sweet life if a lonely one. Lonely that is until he meets Heath. This leads to the HEA and the meaning of the title. This is the most heart warming chunk of the book as it shows what a good man Micheal is. I had to wipe away tears of sorrow and laughter on more than one occasion.
On the negative editorial side there are a couple of typos and plot inconsistencies. In terms of inconsistencies, it is stated that Micheal has been single for nine years yet a few pages on he has only been broken up from his ex seven years. Then we have Heath, one minute he is six foot one and the next he is six foot two. These may not be that important but if you are going to be specific with your facts then be consistent.
I have not read the whole series other than the first and last which left me at a slight disadvantage as characters new to me popped up every now and again. I don’t think it took anything away from my enjoyment. This is a great story with some dark moments and some light ones. It is not judgemental about ‘wild’ behaviour but it is honest about the consequences in terms of relationships and health. There are regrets about lost love but no real blame allocated when there was no intention to hurt. I may not have agreed with some of the lifestyle choices some characters made but I felt the warmth of feeling Micheal had for those people even when they destroyed his happiness. Thankfully happiness was not out of his reach.

I know I have written in my previous reviews about this series how much I liked the style of Casey Morales, his way of writing and the fact that he seemed to speak directly to the readers, in a way that made you think he was sharing his secrets directly. with them. Well, this last instance of the series confirms it.
Although My Last Date turns out to be deeper than the previous ones, and Michael shares extremely painful and difficult situations in his life, the story does not lose its essence.
It was hard, really hard, for me to finish reading it. I had to take a loooong pause until I could get over the anger I felt (and still feel) towards Ryan. I still can't understand his way of acting, although after thinking about it and knowing how he acted in his marriage (and yes, I understand that these were difficult times for a queer person, where you needed to hide and act within the parameters that society demanded of you , that does not justify the deception), I realize that it really does not surprise me. And it hurts how his actions hurt Michael, and the consequences of them.
Luckily though, and after several years of following his journey, Heath came into his life, and I'm glad Michael finally let him in.
I am sorry that the story of his journey ends here, because it is difficult to say goodbye to something that was so well written that it made you feel his emotions, laugh and cry with him, and I hope that the author will send us more original stories to enjoy his talent.
I received and advance copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
The Last Date, was by far the best and most emotional book in the entire series.
It is rare that I cry when reading a book - I've read over 150 books so far this year and two have made me cry - this is one of them. Even though I knew Ryan wasn't going to be the "last date" going into this book, I thought my heart was going to shatter when the relationship actually ended. Casey knows how to tell a story and I felt I was going through life right there with him.
I absolutely adored Heath from the first contact (fellow Serena fan!) and loved reading about the life Michael and Heath made for themselves. I appreciated that Casey answered some questions at the end of the book and the fact that this series was autobiographical makes it even more special.
Unlike most books I read, this unforgettable series will live in my heart.

This book was heartbreaking, and healing. It was so raw and honest, I felt like I was on the journey w Michael. The anger and heartbreak I felt over Ryan was so real. I think if I met Ryan today I would have so many choice words over what a spineless, ugly self centered arsehole he is! I’m so happy Michael found heath, and they have their happy ever after. But honestly I’m still so mad at Ryan!
There is something so refreshing to read an autobiographical work in the MM genre, and to see the end and flows of life. Michael has had such a journey from the very sheltered preachers child to a successful adult, all the loves and losses have shaped his character and the bravery and strength of character seriously amazed me.

I really want to give this book a five. I love Michael and the journey he's taken. And really, after Carter in book 2, my heart was crushed as well. I haven't liked a single guy he's dated since then and I was started not to like Michael because of it, too. But then Ryan was gone. I was crushed for Michael even though I never liked Ryan. But finally, there's Heath. I worried for a moment about Michael possibly losing himself to fit in with Heath and Heath's likes, but those worries are quickly squashed. I love their happy ending. Heath is the perfect guy for him.
The reason I can't give it five stars… my pet peeve is timelines, and this one is all over the place! Like telling us he began as a ref at 18 but has to hang it up after twenty years… but he's still under 38. And the long periods after the break up with Ryan…'two years' there, then 'couple more years' there. So it's been four maybe five years since the break up. Except right after that second one it says he's been single for 9 years. Just a little bit later… it's been seven years since Ryan. We jumped ahead and now are back, though still longer than I had thought, though maybe it had been even longer before the first move than I had realized because that time was kind of sped through (which makes sense but made me lose track a little for that time frame and that's why my math could be off… just not that far off or make us go backwards two years).
But if timeline discrepancies don't send your head into a tail spin, this is a fantastic story. This probably being my favorite part because he finally has his HEA and isn't a settled 'straight' guy without a clue, but of course, if you're going to read it, you need to read it from the beginning of the series to understand his journey.
*I am leaving an honest and voluntary review after receiving this book as an ARC.
Wow - this book is different that any other I’ve ever read. I suppose it was different partially because I knew of it’s autobiographical nature before I started reading, but there was something else about it that stood out. Something about the straightforward writing felt so refreshing to read - like I was in the moment with Michael watching the events unfold in real time. I’d recommend reading the previous books in the series before jumping in here, but can also say it’s ok if you don’t. I did not and still fully enjoyed reading this book. I did do some quick down and dirty research by reading the previous book reviews to give myself some context!
This is the final chapter of Michael’s journey to love. It starts with him and Ryan happily in love and getting ready to marry. We get almost 50% in before things so south for them, but I’m not spoiling anything for you if you’ve read the book synopsis! Ryan is really awful and I’ll let you discover the reasons why for yourself. I can’t imagine the heartbreak that came before this one! Goodness, it was written with such rich emotion that I felt heartbroken right alongside Michael. I think that’s part of what felt so refreshing about this writing - we got all honest emotions from Michael: the loneliness, boredom, happiness, fear, and hope. I truly loved the style here - Morales is a writer I’d read over and over. Back to the story a Heath comes into the picture and bowls Michael over from the first meeting. They were adorable and open with. one another.
I recommend this series and plan to go back and read the series from start to finish!
Bravo to Casey for keeping this biography enjoyable, entertaining, realistic and educational! I was ready to give up right along with him, especially after the shit Ryan tried to pull. I mean, seriously! Wth would make him think Michael is just going to idly sit by and wait while Ryan “soils his Royal oats”. Ugh….. I just wanted to slap fire from him and his audacity!
As previously stated though, we once again witnessed how much Michael has matured over the years. He picks up the shattered pieces of his heart and continues to push forward. Becoming a financial advisor is the greatest decision made, securing a life for himself in the future.
How he met Heath, to me, was quite entertaining. I mean, what are the odds?! And, the “you’re tense, let me give you a massage” is the oldest trick in the book, which apparently Michael’s naïveté showed through a tad. I really was happy for the new couple as they both deserved their HEA, and everyone knows, dogs are the best judge of character so gracias to Jessie!!!
There were even more emotional moments with this ending than any other episode. Maybe because I knew their journey was coming to an end, or maybe it was because of consequences, but either way, faucets were flowing. Thank you, Casey, for sharing your journey of navigating through the process of finding yourself, and the consequences of your actions. You are a wonderful human being and a lot can be learned from your journey!!
At the beginning, of course. I read all five of these books in three days — not because I read slow, but because I wanted to extend the experience. I grew up in the 90s and early Aughts, so, much of this story is incredibly familiar. From the first dates, “experiences”, nights out, very unquestionably stupid bedroom practices, breakups (especially with guys you think are your forever, but nearly making you feel like your heart will be forever broken thereafter when they leave), but the better, the joy, the cheek-hurting-smiles, belly-aching laughter, the soft eyes, soft touches, warm embraces …and the final one, the “it’s actually, truly happening” love from the man you never thought existed, especially for us neurotic Pisces, these books, holy crap. I freaking LOVED IT ALL.
It hit closer and harder than some I thought would break me. So, thank you, Casey (and Heath and Jesse) for showing writing this series and sharing your real story with us. It’s a gift many probably didn’t know we needed (I certainly didn’t) until we’ve read it.
Cheers to you and your family! And thank you, from the bottom of my heart. (My husband probably isn’t because I’ve been a crying mess since a breakup and its follow-up unleashed waves of tears, but whatever. That’s why Costco sells three-ply Kleenex.)
Can’t wait to read A your other books. I’ve already bought and queued up this series for our move from West to East Coast.)
My Last Date by Casey Morales is the 5th book in his Raised by Wolves series. I suggest that you read the others first as this is a continuation of those stories. This one picks up where the last one left off to tell the story of Michael’s love life and boyfriends and how he grew and changed with each of them. It is very funny as he recounts what happened to him during his relationships but also poignant when he describes his breakups and his feelings and how they demoralized him. I really enjoyed the book especially the situations he found himself in as some were hysterically funny, as were his angel and devil consciouses who often appeared when he least wanted them to. They also showed how much love he had to give. It was hard to watch him go through breakups, and though it took a while he was able to get past them and move forward. I also liked that this was autobiographical (with names changed) and it was very heartening to read that he truly did find his last boyfriend. I really enjoyed all the characters as they had realistic interesting backgrounds as did Michael as he fell in love and then dealt with the problems that came with it. I am not LGTBQ+ but these are my favorite stories to read and I learned a lot about Pride celebrations in different places from this book. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to reading more from Mr. Morales.
So the final one is here, until now I've laughed a lot, I've cried at least 4 times, and have been deeply entwined into the scenes.
I was pissed when Ryan accepted ecstasy, I'm not sure what year it was during this time, but even growing up I knew ecstasy was one of the dirtiest drugs around, and was rarely ever clean, I wouldn't be surprised if that's where Ryan's HIV diagnosis came from.
It was also confusing when Ryan suddenly wanted to break up just because he hasn't explored and experienced, clearly the solution would be to open their relationship, having an open relationship would allow all that while still being together, I'm shocked it wasn't even considered, again making me wonder what specific year this was.
And then he didn't even come back like he promised, what the fuck Ryan.
Glad that Heath was one to stick around, It's about time.
This would be an author I would meet at a booksigning, one day, when I'm not poor. I spent a lot of time on the authors website and youtube, watching, reading, saving.
I'm glad I decided to look outside the fantasy romance category and look at regular romance, I'm going to continue on in chronological order until I've experienced every book.

In this fifth and final book of Michael's journey from baby gay to a grown, out and proud gay man, we learn how easy it is to look back and see how life brings you people and things that are meant to shape you, but while living your life, it is hard to see where your life will lead you. After a two year relationship with Ryan and after he proposed, who would have thought he could just walk away from Michael. And then a few months later, Michael received another devastating blow.
So, Michael's life takes him on another path that leads him to Florida and to his future HEA. It has been years since his breakup with Ryan. After having given up dating and men, wouldn't you know it, but life brings Heath literally to Michael's door. It was good to know that he found his forever, and such a hot, hunky man at that. Not only is Heath sweet to his dog, but he is a gentle soul and an all around good person. And with both men sharing the same medical condition, the same love for sports, and the same zest for life, it was truly meant to be.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
🎧I listened to all 5 of this series one right after the other. There is something about this author that entraps me into finishing the entire series immediately once I begin. I did the same thing for his Nashville Neighborhood series (except the last book because I couldn't stomach the fake French accent narration).
This final book in the series was everything Michael deserved. I felt the heartache he endured by that piece of shit asshole Ryan. I never liked him and the scene where he decided to do molly was my last straw. Ryan truly rivals even my worst exes for the POS award.
I loved Heath. You could feel the happiness pouring off the page when they were together. The fact that this is an autobiographical series makes me happy knowing that their HEA is real & going strong.
Book 1 - "Threesome" (the movie not the sex!!!) gay first-time with roommate's friend (hookup) Book 2 - Carter & the kids! (still sad about this) (relationship) Book 3 - one steamy night hook-up with established couple and (relationship) w/zookeeper Donny Book 4 - (you bastard!) Ryan (relationship) Book 5 - heartbreak and HEAth
Michael Reid has moved in with his boyfriend, Ryan, and they have picked out rings. But fractures slowly start to form and a torrid weekend away with a bunch of single friends drives a wedge between them. Before long, Michael is once again alone and moves from Atlanta to Florida to start afresh. He was a great apartment, a great dog, and a great job but life isn’t perfect until he meets Heath, his last boyfriend.
In the epilogue, Casey Morales lets us know this whole series (Raised by Wolves) is his true life story—with minor editing to protect the guilty! Each of the four previous stories ends with a HFN, but in this final book he gives us the long awaited HEA. Along the way, Casey breaks the fourth wall, makes little jokes and asides, and shows us how Michael is never down for the count. Despite what life throws at him, he maintains his decency and his optimism—two things about him that obviously attracted Heath. I’ve loved the honesty, the humour, the steam, and big heart on display. 🎧 The youthful voice of Jon Curtis was perfect for the role of Michael on the audio; Jon is playful, emotional, and enthusiastic—all qualities that Michael exudes on the page.
I’ve been reading Casey’s books for the past few months. I originally started with his Nashville Spicy series—which is fun and lighthearted—but I stumbled upon this series and was instantly hooked.
There’s a special kind of vulnerability that comes with writing about one’s own life experiences, and Casey does it with humor and a raw honesty that many readers will find deeply relatable. I especially appreciated his witty nods to younger readers. As a Gen Z myself, I felt like our lives mirrored each other at times—from the challenges of coming out and embracing our sexuality to those moments of youthful naivety.
There were times I just wanted to reach out and hug Michael. I won’t pretend I didn’t get emotional while reading—nope, not a single tear was shed… several were. B@$tard. 😘
Thank you for sharing your story, Casey. Wishing you and Heath a lifetime of happiness.
I’ve loved every page of this series, and I’m a little bit sad to come to the end of this final book. Michael’s journey to his happy ending is filled with heart and humor, missteps and self discoveries, hopeful beginnings and bittersweet endings. Michael is again an engaging narrator - hilarious, clever, and charming. I loved that while not all his relationships last, each is important and leave a lasting impact on Michael. I loved his time with Ryan and the sense of foreboding hanging over their trips to New Orleans and Florida was very well done. The end to that relationship is appropriately brutal and sad. But, later we meet Heath and Michael decides to gives love another chance. Worth it. A beautiful end to this special series, loved it!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
More serious truths and consequences in this one. I still loved it! The unvarnished truth isn’t always pretty. And may people like Ryan get their just desserts. That part hurt but not nearly as much as what came a few months later. People can make comments about “How stupid was that?” and be all judgey but the truth is during the 80’s and 90’s we didn’t 100% understand or teach anything safe. At least not in the South. You ignored it all. I loved this last book most of all. While it isn’t as funny as the first 2 books, this one brings everything full circle. And let’s deface it, Michael grew up. This is a really good series and worth a read.
I think Casey Morales is one of the best writers in MM romance, and this story bears that out. Every page is filled with witty, clever writing and the story absolutely captivated me, particularly knowing that it's true. My Last Date was a rich, emotional ending to this wonderful series. In general, I dislike or even resent books that make me cry. I shed quite a few tears while reading My Last Date but never felt resentful. Over the course of the series, I appreciated how each book ended with a HFN. The other obvious choice would have been to end each book with a breakup, and that would have been far too depressing. Don't miss this entire fantastic series!
Not what I was expecting. The author didn’t hold back. Still Michael finding his way and Heath was breath of fresh air after Ryan. Overall I enjoyed the series very much. Some tough topics and I had to remind myself not to yell at Michael for some decisions because this takes place before we all learned so much more about HIV. I laughed a lot and that’s what makes me happy I read an honest version of the author’s life. It was authentic, hilarious and messy, just like life.
I read the box series a while back and I so loved them that I read each individual one this past week. I really loved Casey's honesty on his journey as Michael. "Ryan" really did him wrong. After all the crying and begging and worshipping, the constant profession of love, to change as he did and then be cold... he deserved happiness. He deserved Heath. I know each relationship help make him who he is today, I wish life would have been kinder. Sad that his friendship with Dwayne faded away. I hope someday they can meet up again.
I love your writing style in this series! It is like the reader is part of an actual conversation with the author rather than an outside viewer. I loved hearing a real-life story with the good and the bad times. It makes things so much more REAL. I am sorry for all of the trauma the author had to go through, but I am that much happier for him that he found his happily ever after in the end! Thank you for your beautiful stories. I look forward to reading more of them!
This was a very unique series experience for me. I found most of the series incredibly sad without anything to make me laugh. My emotional reactions to these books were all over the place, and I realized it was because Michael's experience so closely mirrors my own, and in some cases down to the smallest detail. (I'm looking at you hot tub couple.) Overall, I ended up enjoying it and really appreciate the fact it's based on the author's real-life experience. Narrator Jon Curtis did a great job as well.
This was really sweet, I just wish he wouldn’t have crammed Heath’a character into the last few chapters and built him up a bit more. Like some of the exes got entire books and it stayed with me more than the positive ending. I guess it makes sense, he didn’t want to elaborate on his current relationship and make his husband so public. I’m glad he got his happily ever after though, I didn’t like any of his old boyfriends, his husband seems like a great guy though even from the short introduction.
A very intriguing journey. Taking place over a course of time the story has highs and lows with plenty of in between’s, too. The characters are interesting. The hurts, the scares and the new adventures all keep the story rolling along. The realness of the story is really something. Life is an adventure and this life here is quite an adventure.

The entire series while being one of the best series I’ve read has also been an eye opener, Casey through a true life story tells us all to go through life and take everything that comes your way. You will have bumps and trip ups throughout your life, but in the end you will get everything you deserve. He also dispels the rumors that your early twenties are when you have to settle down, have some fun!
Not enough stars for this series. I hated to end the series. This is a special story about a wonderful and unintentionally funny "hero". I loved it. This is one of those "I want to see how it ends but don't want it to end" reads.
A very different reader journey. It brought smiles, tears, gasps and hope. This character captured my heart from the beginning and keep the end.
Off the market for a time, in this last book, a chance meeting of Heath at long last brings him his forever love. Cast, as in the prior books, wins the reader with his ability to bring you right into the emotion of his life. He is a master storyteller. Humorists, irreverent at time, and deeply honest. These books have been blessed by that little devil and sweet angel of his conscience.
Following Michael through this series has been so much fun. Each book gave us a look at where Michael was in that point in his life but not just the fun parts. We gave to experience the losses with him also but it was all worth it to get to this book.
