Three teenagers go on a camping trip in Canada, near the border with Maine.
Soon enough they have the feeling that they are being observed and toyed with, but decide to stay anyway.
One morning, a masked and armed hunter stands in their camp and gives them 15 minutes to run, after which he will start tracking and gunning them down.
I enjoyed the book up until the hunter appears, there was a tension, a suspense that kept me going. However I was disappointed by the turn the plot took, as it is nothing new - i have read and seen manhunt stories many times - but also because the manhunt itself was rushed and uninteresting.
After that, the book went downhill, with a character dying in a random way (not killed though), a focus on the mental health of some other characters, the hunter breaking bad etc.
I skimmed through 2/3 of the book, as I progressively lost interest. After all, we know the culprit since the beginning, and it was easy to guess he would get caught. The only remaining "suspense" was how.
Regarding the writing style, I did not enjoy having the dialogues embedded into the text, it made for a heavy read, but the author clearly knows how to write and managed to give an eerie feeling to the story.
In conclusion, this book let me down, the characters were not developped properly and the plot is deja vu.
