This story has a great idea and a boring execution. Most of it made no sense the way it was told, like there were missing pieces. I supposed this is due in part to lack of characters' grow and coherence.

Please read Lisa's review which is right on point:
The book starts off with what could've been an interesting premise but fails in the execution. [...] The character development is entirely lacking and the plot suffers in that the author eliminates any sort of suspense

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/....

Many have noted the many mistakes in English. I'll add the mistakes in Italian.

In many language there is something called "gender" (to put it simply you have different ending for male and female, as in English we have she/he). In Spanish and Italian you have novia/novio, innamorata/innamorato and so on. In this book a woman (female) is called innamorato (male). And it's not the only one. Weirdly enough she is then called compagna (mate, with the right ending).

The funniest mistake is this: at the end of the book there is a challenge to (I guess) death. It's called Death Match (of course). In Italian this has been written of as I fiammiferi della morte. I couldn't stop laughing.

Match can be:
- a game and
- "a short slender piece of flammable material (as wood) tipped with a combustible mixture that bursts into flame when slightly heated through friction" (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictio...)

The author picked up this latter meaning, so in Italian it read literally as the matches of death (I guess they were a dangerous weapon...)

It's a hot, kinky vampire story with a nice suspense line. I can't wait to see the next stories. This series has the promise of being very addictive.

This is the first book I've ready by Angela and I was a little unsure since it was only available in ebook. But she tells a great story. Ravenous is supposed to have audiobooks and print books later in the year. I'm looking forward to the audio. And the sequels that Angela says she's writing on her website.

I only give 5 stars to exceptional stories. The only thing I have against this one is that I would like for it to have been longer.

Angela Cameron has my attention. The woman can write one well-crafted and steamy love scene. That is the standout element in Blood & Sex: Michael.

In the opening novel in Cameron’s Blood & Sex series, we find Detective Victoria Tyler investigating a serial killer, and the murders are leading her back to the vampire mafia. Somehow Tori is in the know about the vampires without being one of their human slaves. This means two things: one, she has an in to find the killer if enforcer Michael will still help her (she tried to kill him) and, two, the vampires have marked Tori to either be made one of theirs or killed.

I’m keeping this review spoiler-free, but know that there is more between Tori and Michael than just the investigation and sparks will fly. The vampires dabble in bondage, and Michael wants to help Tori let go for once. Not something she’s inclined to do. It is nice to see the male lead in the novel so focused on love, while we find Tori fighting it throughout. (Read: Don’t let the bondage part make you think this one isn’t a love story. It is.)

The concept of a vampire mafia sounds fresh. When combined with the element of a local policewoman who is in-the-know and is investigating a serial killer that’s likely vampire, though, the book feels more like an echo of old Anita Blake novels — but with way better interactions between our lead characters in romantic settings.

That said, though, I really enjoyed reading the book. It was quick, fun read with hot sex scenes and I have a feeling that was Cameron’s real goal. I’m curious to see if she can build the vampire mafia elements into something truly unique through the next two novels. (Despite it’s flaws, I want to read more of the Blood & Sex series.)

Finally, I found myself liking several of the characters including our leading lady Tori and Michael’s right-hand man Jonas. The latter gets his own story in the second Blood & Sex novel.

If you are seeking a quick, steamy read and accept the Anita Blake echo, Blood & Sex: Michael is worth picking up.

BLOOD AND SEX, VOLUME 1: MICHAEL by Angela Cameron, is a book offering a pounding romance and enthralling suspense along a love of a vampire hero!

Michael is the first hero in this series set in Florida centering around Michael's club called The Fallen. As owner of this club, he assures the rules of Allenza, their vampire world, is followed, especially foremost, the protecting of humans. The heroine Tori is a detective pressed in resolving these eight killings by the an evil vampire called the Bay Gnasher. As Tori suspects that it involves a villain that goes against what this vampire world means, Tori enlists Michael's help in getting to that 'underworld'. That 'underworld' is with another club called The Scene that involves crimes against humans from these evil vampires. As Tori has a past with Michael, she's determined to keep her resolve to focus solely on solving this and keeping her wall of temptation up from Michael. Along with a past and a promise, Tori has a powerful pull and passion for Michael that is gives a fevered and romantic story.

BLOOD AND SEX, VOLUME 1: MICHAEL is an engrossing and breathtaking suspense and a romance that seizes the reader from beginning to end. Traveling the road with Michael and Tori was impressive and their relationship both and poignant and grew more and more as the story went on. Jonas, a secondary character, will be the hero in the next book who has secrets of his own about him. I'd have loved to have a bit of a dictionary that would help with some of the special terms used for the book. Similar that I've seen in those with the Cajun words. But as the story went on, I was able to grasp those terms better. With a theme of romance, suspense and paranormal, its a combination that makes for a great series.

I went back and forth on what to rate this book. In the end I settled on 2.5 stars, but that is only because the story had so much potential. I don't know if the book suffered from over editing or no editing, but the whole book just felt disjointed. I felt like I was reading a series of scenes rather than a full novel. It was always jumping from place to place, making every action seem random and unnecessary. Not only that, but the novel felt more like a sequel though I thought it was supposed to be the first of the series. Maybe I am wrong about that, but so much of the back story in the book really needed to be explained. Instead we were just given random bits of information, which I guess was to add layers to the history between the main characters, but ended up only leaving me confused at times when I should've been focusing on something else in the plot. Like Tori's words of “they only see me as Robert's ex-fiancee”, would have been fine, if the author had ever really bothered to explain who Robert was outside of “That guy who tried to kill you”, which wasn't even added until many chapters later.

Blood and Sex, Vol. 1: Michael is a fun, sexy take on the vampire genre. Angela Cameron’s writing style is creative and confident, and reads like a smart mesh of Kim Harrison’s Rachel Morgan series and Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, with strong leads, great character dynamics, and fantastic chemistry. I did have difficulty understanding some of the character motivations (for example, Tori risks everything in allowing Michael some of her blood in order to get into The Scene, but then nothing truly relevant to her investigation happens when she finally does get in the club), the heavy use of Italian terms lost me a few times, and I had a hard time keeping up with the many supporting characters, but overall I really enjoyed the story, and I thought the characterizations and dialogue were top-notch. Moreover, the romantic, sensual, and erotic elements to this book are phenomenal, and I recommend it all who enjoy a quick, fun read.

Fantastic, though full of typos in my copy for some weird reason. Subject-verb agreement, as well as strange typos of "she" for "his" or "him" ... interesting.

But, mistakes aside, this is a wonderful book. This book was under "bdsm" on some websites, and scared the crap out of me when I was debating whether I should read it. Good news, though, it's pretty much vanilla compared to what I've seen of the true bdsm tales.

I adored the characters, though I'm hesitant on picking up the second of the series. It doesn't seem to be relevant to this one, and I usually like my series to elaborate on on the first book, if not continue.

2 stars at best....The story never seemed to flow, there was no character development or detailed explanation of the history between the main characters to help understand the relationship that they shared. There also was no explanation of the underground vampire hierarchy, which would have explained the high council's role, and the need for Michael to over throw his "padrone" to save his people from falling under the other's rule. As for the serial killer storyline, it also was poorly written, and just added to the lack of continuity of the story. Very boring, and I certainly don't recommend it.

Ok. First time I have read this author and let me just say WOW! I was really impressed with the story and writing style. Ms. Cameron created an awesome world that kept you wanting to see what came up next. Her characters are HOT...beyond hot actually. Michael and Jonas??? I would love to see a little tag team action with them and tori. (I'm just saying) Tori was a strong female lead and her personality blended well with Michaels. I have immediately started book two because honestly I just can't get enough of Jonas. YUM!

I enjoyed this story. It's a quick read with a nice amount of hot vampire sex with a side of, "I'm human but should I hook up with a hot vamp."

One vampire character, Jonas (aka right-hand vamp), had my attention more than the male lead Michael. I kept waiting for Jonas to show up in scenes...and I was never disappointed when he would sashay into a room is his sexy tight leathers.

as the enforcer for the italian vampire cosca, michael expects a certain amount of cooperation from his boos. that amount has been shrinking ever since their leader took a new sadist lover. so when the detective requests his help ,its just the excuse he eneds to take control of the city and the delicious human.
risking it all tori agrees to let michael take her neck and lead her on a journey through a world of bondage domination and blood to stop the killer but can she resist the dark lust he sparks?

this book had SO MUCH PROMISE. and immediately fell flat.

we get the
NO, firm.
no, less firm.

yes, oh yes oh yes.............. I'M over it.

it always feels like rape to me. why do they have to talk the reader into and the heroine?

Great start to a new vampire series.

Like the main characters, but loved the secondary characters more.

Steamy with a side of kink. Jonas seemed to be the dirty birdy of the bunch. Really looking forward to his story next. Would like to see Jude get a book too! 💖

Mary's performance kept me on the edge of seat. Angela is a new author for me and I look forward to more.

A vampire on its own is hot. BDSM on its own is also hot. Put the two together and you get Angela Cameron's very erotic tale of the vampiro cosca.

Victoria Tyler is a tough cop hunting a vampire serial killer. She's going to need help to bring this one down, and the only help she can turn to is Michael, the enforcer of the vampire Mafia. She hasn't seen him since she tried to kill him four years ago. Of course it was an accident, but that act put a target on her back.

The current padrone, Castillo, is becoming more of a threat to the cosca, as is is sadistic "child", Damon. Damon's killing sprees threaten to out their existence to humans. That alone is a death sentence, but somehow they manage to keep dodging that bullet. When Tori shows up asking for Michael's help, he sees an opportunity to finally get closer to her and further his plans to remove Castillo.

This was a new twist on a vampire story, at least for me. The author doesn't hold back describing the twisted nature of the bad guys, and the typical sensuality we'd associate with vampires. Michael doesn't hold back, once he sees a flicker of interest coming from Tori, no matter how often she tries to deny it. It may help that he's a mindreader and has an excellent sense of smell. Michael is easy to like. He may be a hard-a**, but he has morals and cares about sticking to the rules to protect humans. We also get a hint that there's more between him and Tori, but we won't know what exactly until a later point in the story.

"I smell it." He leaned back enough for her to see his eyes
clouding. He whispered in a growling tone, "The fear. The
need. And just how much I turn you on."
His voice snapped her back. She jerked one arm up,
breaking his thumb's grip, turned to put a little distance
between them, and then used her right hand to land a hard
slap across his cheek. "Back off!"
His head rocked, but his grip held her tight, and his body
curled in. A trickle of blood oozed out the corner of his mouth
and slithered down to his chin. A wicked grin made him
suddenly look monstrous. "You're making it very difficult for
me to restrain myself."

Tori was a great heroine. I like them tough, logical and almost no simpering or self-esteem issues.

I liked the use of Italian words as it gave the story a hint of that otherworldliness and reminded the reader that they're to be seen as mafioso types.

I would have liked a little more information on Michael's background, especially since he cut the session of "20 Questions" with Tori short. A glossary for some terms would have been nice as well, at least until I could build a familiarity with them so I wouldn't have to stop and think for a second what a word meant. For the most part the foreign words are explained in context.

At the beginning, it says that she's a human marked to be killed or claimed. I'm curious why none of the vampires she encounters at the club tries to kill her. Did Michael tell them to back off?

I put together a short glossary of terms for the Italian words used a lot in this story. I'm not sure how accurate they are, so please don't drag me into one of the private rooms at the club ;)

Vampiro cosca = Vampire Mafia
The Scene = a club for vampire BDSM junkies
dominatore = Dominant or Master who claims unbound humans
Alleanza = Vampire law/rules
padrone = Equivalent of the Godfather
The Fallen = club run by Michael
Garante = enforcer (of the law)
compagna = mate through the blood bond
creatore = Sire
neonato = Newborn
affascinare = enthrallment
shiava/shiavo = slave f/m (I'm guessing)
senza vincolo = without a (blood bonded) mate
vincolo/vincolare = blood bond
trucchi = mind tricks that vampires use
leggero = an insult; probably equivalent to bastard

PS: The BDSM in this story is light bondage play.

EDIT: There IS a glossary at the end of book #3, as I've just found out :)

I wanted to give this one 5 stars but it had some execution problems I could not ignor. Ms. Cameron built an energetic world where vamps operate like the Mafia even as far as using only Italian terms to as nouns for who and what. Tori, the heroine, is a cop who is smart and sassy. She did not make one dumb bimbo-type move. Michael is her drug of choice, a vamp who makes her blood boil with sexual tension and annoyance. She has some major trust issues but in all fairness, her former vamp lover nearly drained her. Jonas is Michael's second and close friend and apparently very hot to Tori. That got very interesting more than once. There are other characters that are not well developed but play an important roles in key scenes. This was the first area the execution problems stood out for me. If you are going to have them speaking in a scene at least describe them, all of them not just the ones that make Tori mad or hot. The book was told in 3rd person so it was frustrating when no background was provided for character motivation. As a general rule, that's what first person is for. You have a panoramic view. The second execution problem was the pacing. It just moved so fast that details were too sparse, too often.

Why 4 stars, because Ms. Cameron was all about the action. She was not shy about getting rough. The bad guys were very bad. There was death and mayhem. I am not sure what to make of the length of the book, longer than a novella but short for a novel. If Ms. Cameron would have added some background to the characters, it would have gone down smoother in some scenes. The abscence of the background made me stop multiple times to ask myself, "WTF, why did that happen" or "Who is this person and why are they in this scene playing a key role out of the blue". Before I could get too upset, Ms. Cameron would crank up the heat and I just lost track of what just annoyed me. Weird or brillient -- I can't say. Bottomline, the book was very good in an unexpected way. I will continue to read her. I hope she finds a new editor because the typos and missing text were also a distraction from a great piece of fiction. Keep writting this series whatever you do Ms. Cameron! You have a fan.

A totally original--and spine-chillingly sexy--tale of a vampire Mafia and the detective who is determined to bring it to justice.... Detective Victoria Tyler is investigating Collins Bay's new serial killer, one of the city's vampires. Since they have marked her as a human to be killed or conquered, Tori knows that Michael is her only hope for survival. But she hasn't spoken to him since the night she tried to kill him. As the enforcer for the Italian vampiro cosca, Michael expects a certain amount of cooperation from his boss. That amount has been shrinking ever since their leader took a new sadist lover. So when the detective requests his help, it's just the excuse he needs to take control of the city--and the delicious human. Risking it all, Tori agrees to let Michael take her neck and lead her on a journey through a world of bondage, domination and blood to stop the killer. But can she resist the dark lusts he sparks? Or will her weakness get someone else killed?
______________________________________________________________________
Damon-head vampire
Michael&Victoria(a.k.a tori)-main characters
castillo-vampire of the city

Gregory&Blaine-security guards of Michael's club
Jonas-michael's right hand man, vampire, desires for victoria's blood as much as michael does
Robert- vic's ex fiance, cheated on her

Victoria needs michael's help to get into another vampire club from which she's banned from. Michael will help but in the condition that she give him her neck for feeding. She agrees, but she doesnt know that michael has started the bonding between them, and with one more bite and kiss afterwards from victoria, their bond would be done.
Michael knows victoria isnt human, and that she has some sort of old magic like the witches, and he knows that she doesnt know that she's not human.

Later on problems arise and tori killed damon in self defence.castillo fights against michael for the city and tori, and michael wins with the help of the bond power he has with tori.
In the end Everyone's happy and tori is ganna move into a castle with michael...how romantic???

well this book had promise but sadly like so many ive read the writing basically killed any good possibilities. i liked the characters well enough the heroine was nice and tough and resisting the vampire deal was pretty entertaining and a little bit of a twist from the normal vamp series. the hero was a little broody for my taste but he was a decent combo of toughie and softie. My main issue here was the lack of character development. they give you hints of these life changing character shaping events but we never actually get the full story for either character which made the storyline and characters shallow. The vampire mafia idea is new and relatively interesting but they skipped the origin myth which is my favorite part of any vamp story so that was disappointing. also the writing mechanics were horrible. at times she mixed in overly formal language (like when they got into "an automobile") with the normal dialogue. Then there was the fact that there were all these random italian words thrown in that we arent told the meaning of. i had to spend half of the reading time for this book just looking them up. If you're going to use that many foreign words at least give us the meaning so we dont have to waste time looking the words up. she also fouled up the language anyways as other reviewers have mentioned which just pisses me off. you use words, dont tell us what they mean AND use them incorrectly...unacceptable.the sex scenes were pretty good and the only reason the book gets 2 stars but there was far more blood than sex and the sex wasnt nearly as interesting as theyd lead you to believe. definitely wont be reading the next one

Dull story and I wasn't crazy about the vampire world created here. Plus I felt Michael was disrespectful of our heroine. Supposedly he was crazy about her for years and wanted her for himself but when she's standing right in front of him he goes off with two bimbos one on each arm. Not my ideal hero. Plus I thought this was a bdsm book but the most consensual bdsm action we saw were hands tied to bed the rest was not consensual and resulted in real damage or death. At least I got this book on sale for .99 cents. I won't read the next book.

It was not a bad read, I liked the plot involving the serial killer investigation and the hero was sexy. But I didn't like the writing style, felt like a cold narration -and the italian words unnecessary-. no witty or sharp or emotional dialogs. Not enough exciting action for a paranormal, not passionate or romantic enough for a romance.
HERO is a Leader, club owner and leader of the vampire mafia. Has been attracted to the female detective for a while and now has a chance to claim her.
SCENES/CONTENT: few/erotic
GENRE/TONE: paranormal/drama
LENGHT: 250 pages

This book had so much potential. Very erotic story and interesting take on the world of Vampires. Strong heroine, though something of a submissive, which I liked. But it desperately needs a complete overhaul by an excellent editor. It's confusing, it doesn't flow, there are numerous typos, nothing is explained, it shifts unpredictable from first to third person. Really could have been so much better.

This was a very enjoyable read. I only wished there was more of it and would have loved to learn more about Michael as well as Victoria's history. This was a fast paced story that not only was sexy but had a thrilling plotline. I truly loved the dialogue with all the characters in which was the real gold of the book. Angela Cameron really painted all her characters with brilliant voices that exuded personality. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

This series has sooo much potential! That being said I did enjoy the story but it left me with so many questions. There are gapping holes in the story I need more background and more character development. I feel like the story is going on and I started reading the book in the middle of the story. Now with all of that being said I did read the next on and some of those questions get answers.

Oh what a yummy book! I loved this book and spent the day reading.

The story is not a new one, but I loved the seduction and building relationship between the two characters, Michael and Tori.

The secondary character, Jonah, is incredible and look forward to reading his story.

If you like a quick read that has a great character, lots of seduction and sex, then this story is for you. Enjoy!

Hhhhmmmm, not terrible, not great.
The bad guys are BAD, the good guys are almost bad...they are vampires. Tori annoyed me sometimes but not all the time. The violence is often graphic, that's a warning in case you don't like that kind of thing, to me it just makes it more real.
I took my time reading this, mostly because I was not riveted by it. I guess I would give it a 2.5 star rating.

Loved this book. It had a great story. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the heroine was little too quick to give in to the hero. It was a little too unbelievable since she is totally against him and his kind the whole first 3/4 of the book.
