This was the first book I read in Portuguese, so I took a little while longer to finish it. I'm a fan of anything historical, besides, this book would give me the opportunity to dive into Portugal history, so this was a natural choice for me.
What I liked: she has obviously led an extraordinary life, and it was interesting to get to know more of her perspective.
What I didn't like so much: especially in the first half of the book, Mariana was basically bored out of her wits. Being a newly wed princess of Portugal, far away from her family in Spain, she mostly waited for things to start happening. Waiting for the moment her marriage was "allowed to be consummated," and after that, waiting for her kids to be born. Alas, the reader isn't spared this boredom.
All in all, an interesting read, during time spent near a fireplace somewhere.
