When a giant inflatable Halloween witch goes missing in the Pineapple Port retirement community, Charlotte's eager to nab the culprit. Before she can lift a fingerprint, someone threatens to kill a new neighbor who looks like an adorable Pomeranian but possesses a disturbing talent for revenge. Moments later, a stranger demands the return of a mysterious wooden box... or else. Charlotte's boyfriend, Declan, isn't having a great morning either. His calculating ex-girlfriend has returned to claim she's the rightful owner of his pawn shop. She's livid he's found a new lady, too. Eh. Things could be worse. At least Charlotte doesn't know that a mojito-swilling killer who fed his grandmother to a cat is on his way to Pineapple Port...

3.5 stars I love the characters in this mystery. They are just as quirky and crazy as in the first book “Pineapple Lies” and the situations they are getting themselves into are hilarious. I had a hard time with the mystery itself – it just wasn't my cup of tea but all the things going on in the story made definitely up for that. I am looking forward to visiting with the residents of Pineapple Port again.
In Pineapple Mystery Box by by Amy Vansant, Charlotte has decided to become a private investigator, so she gets the help of Seamus, the uncle of her boyfriend, Declan. As a licensed PI, Seamus has the qualifications to let Charlotte do her internship hours under him. But the problem is that the community of Pineapple Port doesn’t have any crime for her to investigate, except maybe the case of the person who illegally put flyers advertising a new private investigation business in the mailboxes without stamps.

Murder and mystery are back in Pineapple Port, and even though I thought I'd seen it all in book 1, it seems Mrs Vansant's wicked humor is inexhaustible! The Mystery Box is another hilarious cozy mystery by this author that was well worth the wait. It is a compelling mix of dangerous villains, a ruthless ex, a character or two for whom appearances are deceiving, and the usual golden girls humor from the half-mad locals that had me howling continuously as I read. You don't have to start at book 1 to enjoy this volume - it can be read as a standalone but I do recommend you read both books for maximum enjoyment. If you're looking for laughs and mystery, then look no further!
I enjoyed this book. Just as whacky and fun as the first one. Charlotte is learning to be a private detective and has no end of help in finding cases to solve. Add in a couple of real mysteries and Pineapple Port is in a tizzy. Lots of fun.
I was anxiously turning the pages after the first line…”He didn’t mean to kill her.” Boom! You’re hooked right off with the search for a ‘mystery box’ filled with stolen loot that had been left with the old woman with severe lapses of mental sharpness—sometimes she didn’t know where it was and sometimes she didn't know what it was. Amy adds a bit of ‘dark’ into the mix putting the killer on a collision course with the residents of Pineapple Port. There, the residents are in an uproar about a prank that has mixed up lawn decorations, the staple of any retirement community. As for my favorite character Charlotte, she has decided to become an official licensed private detective, and in the wake of violating US Postal laws and state licensing guidelines, she accepts assistance from Seamus, the boyfriend’s uncle—He is a fun character, too. Finding out he is a licensed PI will make it easier to get her forty-hours of experience, but she will need to survive his extreme lessons and tests first. Where’s Witchy Poo? First case? The case of the missing lawn decoration, and…of course, murder. But that could all be the easy part. The boyfriend’s ex just came into town demanding part of his pawn shop business. Ok, it’s worse! And I loved every moment!
At 26, Charlotte Morgan is the youngest resident in one of the 55+ community of Pineapple Port in Charity, Florida. To clarify, she's the youngest resident and the longest in residence as she's lived in the same home since she was 11. There's never a dull moment in Charlotte's life, especially now that she's decided to become a licensed private investigator, and it's almost time for the Charity Halloween Bonanza. Outdoor decorations at neighbors' homes were switched. One of the neighbors had a giant inflatable witch stolen from the roof of her house. Another neighbor received a threatening note. There's almost too much to investigate, and that's just the start of the new cases.
I doubt there's another community anywhere, age-restricted or not, that has as much fun on a daily basis. Many neighbors have dogs, so there are snuggles, walks, barks, and woofs of fun, too. It doesn’t matter if the residents are at water aerobics, walking their dogs, riding on their golf carts, working on costumes for a holiday parade, or having coffee or a meal together, you’ll quickly learn they look out for one another. It's also highly likely you'll laugh with them during the chapters of their lives.
Pineapple Mystery Box by Amy Vansant We are here with Charlotte again in Pineapple Port Retirement Community. Charlotte has two wonderful well-meaning but intrusive aged neighbours who have brought her up since her grandmother died suddenly, Mariska and Darla. They, as well as all the other Pineapple Portians are her extended family. Not to mention her huge extremely loyal dog, Abby. Charlotte has decided to now train and become a private eye detective and was given her first retainer of a crisp $100 dollar note. Hoping to make a success of her new career, Charlotte keeps a tally of her clues and suspects on a chalkboard in her kitchen. This is another fast paced hilarious trip through life with Charlotte which is anything but boring! I thoroughly enjoyed this book (2) just like the first one Pineapple Lies and know the third book Pineapple Puzzles will be as good! Can’t wait to begin reading it! Amy Vansant is a great writer whose books I enjoy! I bought this book from Amazon and the review is entirely my own.
Another romp in everyone)s favorite retirement community - Pineapple Port! Lots of shenanigans, mysteries and comic relief! As Charlotte works towards getting her PI License, the cases she needs to solve are piling up!!
This is a great madcap caper story. I think this is the kind of story that could be made into a comedic movie with great success. One positive aspect is no overt sex, language or violence and no bathroom humor. This would be the kind of movie that I would pay money to see.
Charlotte, the youngest person in the retirement community, likes to say she was grandmothered in. After her parents died, Charlotte came to Pineapple Port to live with her grandmother who died nine months later. Some of the residents helped her remain in her grandmother's house and looked after her.
Charlotte's boyfriend Declan owns the local pawnshop. It was formerly a Mexican fast food takeout. Declan's business is now called the Hock-o-Bell. This just cracked me up the first time I read it. This is one example of Amy Vansant's humor. As usual, there is a lot going on in any Vansant story: Declan's ex girlfriend shows up claiming the pawnshop now belongs to her, Charlotte decides to become a licensed private eye and is clocking hours with Seamus, Declan's uncle. They will work on finding out if this is true or just another one of Stephanie's scams.
The story takes place around Halloween. Most of the residents like to celebrate the holidays and decorate accordingly. Darla, Sheriff Frank's wife, is very upset that someone stole her prize decoration. Witchy-Poo is an extremely large, colorful, inflatable that is put on top of the house and she is gone without a clue.
This should be enough to give you an idea of how much I enjoyed this book. If you haven't read Amy Vansant yet, you are missing some of the best humor out there. I like her enough to give her a five star rating. Her characters are well developed and a little loopy. The plot is outrageous but if you can get with the program, you will find yourself smiling at the antics of this crazy community. I know I didn't tell you about the mystery box but it's something for you to find out about when you read this book.
Pineapple Mystery Box is the second in the Pineapple Port Cozy Mystery series. A murder in Tampa sets off a string of events that eventually ends up back in Pineapple Port. Meanwhile, Charlotte, who we first met in Pineapple Lies, is working to become a full-fledged private investigator and dating Declan the pawn-shop owner. Declan is dealing with his own drama, as his ex-girlfriend has come back into town, & she's trying to claim she owns his pawn shop. The basic cast of Pineapple Mystery Box is largely the same as Pineapple Lies. We meet a few more residents of Pineapple Port, including Gloria, who has an interesting sense of "prankster revenge" that may or may not be the root of some threats she receives & hires Charlotte to investigate. Then there's Rocky & Rock Conrad, a father & son duo who play a big part in the story. Like the first story, Pineapple Mystery Box is fun, fresh & has many twists. The characters have funny quirks, & the author has put some very novel stuff into this story. I'd definitely recommend reading Pineapple Lies first, as you will have a better understanding of the interactions between characters & the background if you do. But overall, this is a fun, enjoyable read, and made me look forward to the next installment. I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another good book by the author. Some may think that these are cozy mysteries, they are not. A Cozy implies to me that this might be a book you could tell your pastor you had read. These books have a little hint of violence and/or innuendo, but they are safe. In book two, Charlotte is now trying to be a private eye. As the youngest of the retirement community she lives in (25, do not ask, read the books to find out why), her friends get her set up on a case because someone has switched all the Halloween decorations in their community. But all of a sudden one case blossoms into three and she (and her chalkboard wall) are on the way to solving all of them. Declan, her maybe boyfriend is their as the owner of the pawn shop move into a Taco Bell name Hocko Bell (take a run for the hoarder) along with his ex-girlfriend who wants him back, or at least the pawn shop. At one point in the book he literally becomes the butt of some of the best jokes in the book. If you like your mysteries on the spooky or serious side, this book is not for you. If however you love a good laugh, then his book is for you. I want to tank Ms. Amy for a copy provided for an honest review. In further disclosure, I am part of the street team she has put together to advance her soon to be released 5th book. This is an honest review however. If I though the book was bad, you (and she) would know it.
Book #2: The Mystery Box... 5 smiles! Pineapple Port series by Amy Vansant
As with book number one I found myself giggling out loud. Mrs. Vansant is an author new to me, I'm so happy I've stumbled across her work and I can't wait to read more! I don't like "looong-spoiler-filled" reviews that tell me the entire book so I don't write them.
The Mystery Box can be read as a stand alone book as it's a new mystery and not a continuation of the last. The characters, their relationships and how these were formed ARE the same so as to have a better understanding, reading the first book is helpful.
The content is kept to a PG13 level, as a highly conservative parent, I would have allowed my son's to read at about age fourteen; as boys tend to mature later. The relationship between Charlotte and Declan remains chaste though Uncle Seamus makes a vague reference to "Fifty Shades" that I wouldn't explain to my kids (lol)!
Very cute, funny and right under three hundred pages can be read in a day... five smiles!! 💗 BookLuvinBlond 💗
5 stars I purchased Pineapple Mystery Box: Pineapple Port Mystery book 2 by Amy Vasant and this review was given freely. Read march 2017. Pineapple Mystery Box was both well written and more complex focusing on blending multiple story-lines and mysteries. Just the right blend of community interaction, mystery, intrigue, romance and humor. Amy Vasant continues to expand the Characters from Pineapple Lies. Mariska and Darla continue to provide motherly love, Darla and Justine provide some intrigue, Justine and Seamus's romance continues to build, Charlotte gets help from the community as well as Seamaus and Frank to train as a PI , and Charlotte and Declan's romance heats up. New characters were introduced giving you hints of what is to come in future novels. I like how this novel was a complex full length cozy mystery that was focused more of the plots and less on how scattered Charlotte's thoughts are.
A darker setting than book one. No accidental murders here.
A granny killing grandson who leaves the disposal of grama's remians to the feline neighbors, members of the mob and an alleged US Marshall, and dorky Declan's nasty ex Stephanie are on the scene. Stephanie wants Declan at any price, and leverages his business to try to get it and him. Two former lovers who disappeared into Witness Protection don't find a happy ending, as jealousies come between. Action and adventure about as the Pineapple Portians try to reclaim a mystery box to protect one of their own.
Muddle, but funny in a gritty way.
The dog walking patrol invasion of a competing locale is quite a hoot.
Dizzy dog is once again Charlotte's best friend, along with Darla, Mariska and company. Declan seems to fall prey to every crocodile tear ex Stephanie sheds, and doesn't have as much heat or romance with Charlotte as in book one.
Sweet Charlote seems to has a ways to go in uncovering the big mystery of what to do with her life and career. Gal pals, Sheriff and doggie by her side, we're waiting for the next action packed installment.
The characters are seriously wacky and get into more mischief than anyone their age should, with no kind of boundaries or consequences, it is actually fun to read.
After their last escapade, Charlotte decides she wants to b e a PI. As such, her adoptive mothers decide to fabricate her first case while Uncle Frank unknowingly creates the second. As Charlotte searches for clues to the missing decorations, she stumbles on her next case. Before you know it, she has four cases, two of which are easily solved. The remaining two more than make up for the ease in solving the missing decorations cases, but not without complications. When Declan's ex decides to return and disrupt his entire life, well, that just adds one more adventure filled with mishaps and senior shenanigans worthy of a sitcom.
With quite a cast of characters, I am really enjoying Pineapple Port. I didn't think that would be the case, but thanks to Charlotte and Declan, I at least can say they have a lot on their hands and it is hilarious reading about their daily interactions with the residents of the retirement community.
This review is for the audio book version but still applies to the book. I love this series as the books are so unpredictable and funny. I jumped at the chance to get it as an audio book. So glad I did as the audio doesn't disappoint. Charlotte having decided to become a private investigator soon finds her hands full when several of the Pineapple Port residents turn to her for help. With items disappearing and turning up in strange places it seems an easy case to start her new career with , that is until death threats start arriving and strange cars are seen in the neighbourhood. This all leads to lots of laughs and an expected house guest. As well as unwanted ex girlfriend and a Halloween costume party that she must win.
If you like listening to cozy mysteries this is a must series to add to your collection, I am. This is the first time I heard this narrator but she is very good and I found her easy to listen to and thought she did a great job of bringing the characters to life, so I hope she reads the rest of the books in the series.
What can I say, I love this series. I had to backtrack to read this one, as I had read #3 through 7 and still have to get my hands on #1. I have to see how this all got started. I heartedly recommend this series to anyone and everyone who likes a mystery, but likes to laugh their heads off too. Of course, they really should put Gloria away before her revenge compulsion winds up really hurting or killing someone. I could not believe the things she took offense to and how she retaliated. Never laughed so hard. And Declan, although he seems rather sweet, he comes across as somewhat of a wuss and a little wimpy. Like why doesn't he just tell Seamus that he has to leave, as he wants his space, period. He seems to let people push him around and just takes it. Maybe I just like my men a little more assertive, aggressive and, dare I say, manly, in other ways aside from being built like Adonis. Probably just me. Hope to see book #8 coming out. Keep them coming Ms. Vansant. You certainly know how to entertain.
Some series suffer from sophomore slump but this one most certainly does not. Charlotte has decided that her calling is to be a private investigator after her achievements in the previous story and her senior citizen community is more than willing to send cases her way, things like who stole Darla’s Halloween witch and who is moving outdoor decor from one yard to another.
When pawnbroker Declan’s former girlfriend threatens to make his life miserable and a peculiar box draws unhealthy attention, he thinks things are weird enough but they can’t explain his uncle Seamus’s bizarre behavior. Throw in a potentially homicidal newcomer and Charlotte suddenly has a full detecting plate.
Following up on the first book, Pineapple Mystery Box is just as clever and filled with humor and I appreciated narrator Rosemary Benson’s talents every bit as much. I highly recommend this and I’ll soon be starting the next audiobook, Pineapple Puzzles.
Ok so this is the second book in the series and I must say I really love this series. I am a big fan! I am hooked. This book has so many twists and turns that I couldn't figure out the end game. I love the characters that Amy has created. They are funny and have great personality. This book was just as laugh out loud funny as the first. Even topping the first story. I believe this will be one of those series that is like a fine wine, getting better and better with each year, or in this case book. I loved the mystery and comedy of the story. I can't wait to read book 3 and find out what Charolette and the Pineapple Port gang get into next. If you haven't read this series you need to pick it up now and get to reading. Happy Reading!! :0)
Loved getting more back story to many of the cast members, and seeing Charlotte stumble through learning how to become an investigator. I like that while she is the sleuth, the story doesn't revolve around her, but more revolves around the residents of Pineapple Port.
I did feel like this book dragged in a few places, and was a bit longer than it needed to be. A few strings within each of the various storylines needed more suspension of disbelief than usual but it didn't pull me from the plot. The convoluted multi mystery was unique, and I enjoyed discovering the culprit for each case.
Can't wait to see Charlotte grow as a person and a sleuth.
Charlotte, age 26, lives in the retirement community named Pineapple Port. She has decided she wants to be a private eye and has found out she must apprentice to an existing licensed private eye in order to get a license. Her friend has a 15 foot inflatable witch that she puts on her roof each Halloween that has recently gone missing. It's Charlotte's first case. She finds that many of the outside decorations in the neighborhood have been switched. She also finds that there is a pretty little wooden box that is missing in action that Gloria would like retrieved, and she gets a retainer for that job too. This is good light reading; I finished the story in one day. It's quite light-hearted and humorous. I enjoyed myself reading it, and I think you will too.
Charlotte who grew up in a retirement village is trying to learn to be a PI! In just one week she has 3 jobs. Of course one is set up by her “adoptive moms” who raise her when her grandmother passes. This book explores her relationship with Declan more. Meanwhile she’s on the hunt for a mysterious puzzle box. Seems more than one person is desperate to find the box. What indies is a funny adventure with hilarious characters. This was a funny book with the kind of humor you come to expect with Amy Vansant! I love this book and this series! If you are looking for s good, light, funny book to lighten your day this is the book, author and series for you!
An episode filled with campy hijinks. Lawn decorations on several yards are swapped. Jackie gets intimidated. A resident, little Gloria, receives a death threat. Quite a load of shenanigans. Stephanie, Declan's ex-girlfriend, was an unwelcome addition to the story. When she waltzed in, I almost stopped reading it. However, Charlotte's first reactions to Stephanie were delightful. Overall, a good story.
I received this book as an ARC, I will not show up as a verified purchase. Charlotte starts training for her PI license under the supervision of Declan's uncle Seamus. A series of missing and swapped lawn ornaments, and multiple death threats to one of the residences take Charlotte's attention. While Declan's psychotic ex girlfriend shows up claiming to be the owner of his pawn shop. In this second book Amy has a delightful mix of humor, dangerous situations and a mix of jealousy, greed, and influence from the mafia. It was a very fun read.
I really looked forward to this book! A fun cozy with a Hallowe'en slant! There was some cleverness, but I gave up 16 % of the way through. The crime itself had some rather implausible details, and the writing was cryptic at times ( I would have appreciated her letting us know just what a ghillie suit is, for instance). The last straw, though, was the rather sophomoric romantic subplot that was clearly going to be prominent. Unfortunately I have the first in the series too, and I do not know whether to bother.
Where Charlotte, Declan, Seamus and the pineapple gang go, trouble and murder and sure to follow. Charlotte has decided to become a PI apprenticing with Uncle Seamus (1st mistake), the gang decides to give her a puzzle/mystery to solve (2nd mistake); not knowing that a murderer walks in their midst. Meanwhile, Declan is dealing with is psycho ex who has returned to claim his bar and possibly him. A quirky, ridiculous, ham handed, quick read, book2 builds on the snark and adventure of the Pineapple Cove residents and their misadventures
