Poisonous Psyche

Rate this book
Psyche. Eros' wife. Once mortal, now a beloved goddess, revered among humans and deities alike. A beauty in the skies, a proper lady, always willing to lend a hand, give a shoulder to cry on, ears to vent into. Fiercely loyal to her husband, unbelievably proud of her daughter, Hedone. And she has disappeared. Hedone, too. Gone, vanished from Olympus without a trace, no inkling of how they left and why. No note, no apologies, no clue. But she's out there, oh yes. Sending deadly fumes into the earthly atmosphere. Toxic. Dangerous to all living things, hurtful to gods. Poisonous. Will she ever be found by her loved ones--and stopped? Who can save her from the whispers in her head and bring her home, to her family?

This book was crazy in the best of ways!! I suspected something was up with Psyche based on some of the information towards the end of the first book in this series, but WOW it really shocked me. I of course guessed something about poison based on the title, but the poisoned fog (smoke?) was a really interesting detail that I never suspected. The mention of Hedone reminded me that she had been missing too since we never found out what happened to her in the first book either, and it broke my heart that Psyche wasn’t able to fight the inner being long enough to go back with her daughter without Athena’s help. I also thought the information regarding Hecate was a great insight to Greek mythology as she was the first person I suspected after realizing what she was known for. The description of what things were like in the underworld, how Hades and Persephone were acting, all of it was spot on and created SO much suspense. I was amazed that Athena even managed to lie to Zeus, being his favorite and all, but it seemed to workout for the best! The ending definitely left me without any patience to start on the third book to see what happened next.

Amazing sequel!!! Stephanie gives only clues and ideas as to who the villain of the series is, keeping you guessing the entire time. It's incredibly exciting to read, and Stephanie does an amazing job switching the moods and points of view in the book. It doesn't ever get boring or repetitive, keeping the reader locked in.
She brings in some amazing new players to the storyline effortlessly, while still going back to everyone from Carnivorous Cupid and making sure to keep up with them. She keeps the lore of the Greek Gods, and is incredibly detailed when including their powers into the storyline.
Absolutely recommend to anyone who is interested in an amazingly written mystery revoling around the Greek Gods.

A spectacular suspenseful sequel!

Eros may be locked up, but his carnivorous rage is still lurking just beneath the surface. His beloved wife is still missing and the voices are telling him that there's only one way to find her. Kill the Gods!

Athena, charged by Zeus to find Psyche and solve the mystery of who poisoned them must traverse the different planes to find the culprit. her list of suspects keeps getting longer. Who can she trust?

I love a good horror/suspense book to shake up my reading and Stephanie Rose does an amazing job

An amazing sequel to Carnivorous Cupid, Poisonous Psyche did not disappoint.

Many questions were answered and many new ones were formed, as Stephanie Rose does what she does best, and creates a captivating thriller with lots of twists and turns. The characters were incredibly enticing and well developed, allowing their opposing dynamics to make for great banter.

I can't wait until the next in the series is released!

I really loved the second installment to the angry green gods series. I would give this a solid 4 stars, only because there wasn’t any smut (I’m a sucker for smut lol) and Psyche’s dialogue was a bit hard to follow, although I understand why considering the situation she was in at the time.

This sequel kept me turning the pages! There was more suspense and possible clues this time, which I liked. The different povs coming together to try and connect everything kept things interesting, as well as possible red herrings and alterior motives. I'm even more curious to see where this story goes now!

After reading the first book, Carnivorous Cupid, I was excited to see how the mystery would continue to unfold. Because this is the second book and I don't want to post any spoilers, I will give a very brief summary:

Psyche, the wife of Eros, is still missing, and now so is their daughter Hedone. Now rumors are circulating that a goddess is infecting humans with a toxin that is causing them to become ravenous with hunger, and mutilated animal carcasses are showing up all over. Zeus is determined to find out who or what is causing these gods to lose their mind, so he enlists his favorite daughter Athena to head the investigation. Athena, however, is not keen on the idea, especially since it means pairing up with other gods she would rather avoid. Will she be able to solve the mystery? And how far must she go in order to do so?

Aphrodite was our main goddess in the last book, so I was a little bummed to see her have less of a role in this one. However, I did like how we switched to Athena and actually got to interact with more gods in this one. We also switched from primarily being on Earth to more time in Olympus and the Underworld.

The story itself is compelling, and I'm still dying to know how all of this will end. I have theories on how it may end, but I feel like there is more to all of this that we will discover in the next book. The only thing that i struggled with was that there were some parts in the middle that seemed to drag on or could have been cut short. That didn't stop my enjoyment of the story, but I think it slowed my reading pace in places.

All that being said, I can't wait to read the third book and get some answers!

Book 2 in the series takes off where book 1 ends. Athena is in charge of finding psyche and figuring out who is cursing the gods and why. Psyche is wandering around Europe poisoning humans and making them feast on raw animals. Unlike eros she seems to be able to argue with the voice inside her head, though it does no good. She can't control her actions, but she tries as hard as she can to stop. Athena eventually finds her and brings her back to olympus where hecate cures both her and eros of the poison. But they both still feel the after effects and everyone is left wondering who the culprit is, why they're trying to use eros and Psyche as distractions and what the end goal truly is.
