A beautiful gift for anyone interested in the night sky. Follow the progress of constellations throughout the seasons with this beautiful companion to the night sky from Astronomy experts Collins.
With the aid of easy-to-understand monthly calendars and maps, you will chart the rhythm of the lunar phases, discover events that light up the sky for brief periods, and explore the rich tapestry of characters that adorn the starry canvas overhead. Written and illustrated by astronomical experts, Storm Dunlop and Wil Tirion, and approved by the astronomers of the Royal Observatory Greenwich.
This is an excellent guide to what to look out for in the night sky in 2023. It is designed so that it can be used anywhere in the world, and would make a lovely gift for anyone with an interest. I have an Earc and the constellation maps are unusable, but will probably get a print copy for next year.
*Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a review copy in exchange for an honest opinion.*
I am unsure why but my ebook had so many poor quality photos which supposed to be pictures if stars where for me they all were a blur or gray squares. I accessed on NetGalley app and had the same issue therefore I am unsure if this book is advised to be purchased on e-version and best to buy a hard copy maybe. I found information interesting, especially what is happening each month. Lots of details yet very often I found myself lost and overwhelmed with the information. I was hoping it would be an interesting somewhat inspiring read but it was more factual and technical.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for ARC opportunity.
Proporcionou muitas memórias agradáveis, e atravessou o mundo comigo, das Maldivas ao México. Aqui, na terra de tamales, mostrei o livro ao meu recém feito amigo astrónomo.
Every year I see this book come up on Netgalley and every year I request this and then go and find myself a physical version, as these impressive but compact books give us another guide to the stars for the year coming that always impresses me.
I appreciate everything they put into this book, the diagrams, the important dates, the incredible knowledge of the night skies they have to really make an interesting and informative book that really never stops giving you everything you need to know about the stars. Going by month, this book gives us, sunrises and sunsets in major cities, moon phases and what you need to be looking out for.
I appreciate the language they use to explain everything and I appreciate how they highlight memorable moments of the planetary calendar and combine this with facts and history about space. I just really appreciate these books when they come out and look forward to adding this purple copy to my collection so far!
Thanks again for the ARC Netgalley and Collins Astronomy!
A beautiful guide of what to expect to see within the night sky in 2023. I think it's amazing that it can be used anywhere in the world, it'd be a great present to get for someone who travels a lot, you could certainly take it away with you!
I love the fact this book makes it so easy for people to just read and learn about the night sky and use their map to find the secret patterns in our stars! There is so much knowledge that has gone into this book and so much work too from diagrams to knowledge and information, the important dates on each month on what to look for, I just love that. I also really like how everything is explained and it's so easy to understand, it makes it so much more easy and accessible for beginners to join in!
Thanks to Netgalley for the FREE ARC in return for my honest review.
This is a book I see regularly and I always think how beautiful the cover art is, always being a little intimidated to pick it up because of how limited my knowledge of astronomy is.
However, I have received a copy in return for an honest review and I can now say that I shouldn't have felt worried about reading it because while it is absolutely packed with information, it's also explained clearly and while I am in no way an expert after reading this, I now have a basic knowledge to grow from over the next year as I follow various paths of things in the night sky.
It also means I shall continue to buy further copies of this book each year.
As much I would love to say this book was amazing, I can’t do that. The ebook version showed all the pictures as black squares, which obviously made the whole experience quite boring, as I had only the text (sometimes badly edited in ebook version) to read. For someone who still finds the stargazing fascinating but insanely difficult, the lack of any ‘maps’ or pictures made reading this book almost impossible, as I couldn’t understand most of the stuff without the visual representation. I’m quite disappointed.
I will buy this book in physical form as I’m sure the author did an amazing job, it’s just the digital version of it was not great.
Thank you NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
This compact book is full of month by month information about our sky at night. The introduction explains it aims "to help people find their way around the night sky and to understand what is visible every month from anywhere in the world" and it definitely achieves this. Along with lots of maps, diagrams and charts it illustrates and explains the many aspects of our night sky. It highlights the major events in 2023 and explains where to go for the best dark sky sitesIt would make a wonderful annual gift for people who are fascinated by the sky at night. Thanks to Net Galley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a beautiful book, a must in physical form, rather than digital. A great gift for those with even a passing interest in astronomy. It is incredibly detailed and highlights important features, noteworthy dates and contains very useful diagrams and maps. The month-by-month layout is very easy to understand and the language used is very clear.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A helpful guide to know what to look for in the night sky and when. Split into month by month segments it makes it easy to look up what is worth keeping an eye out for that is coming up soon. Alongside information of what to expect there is also historical snippets, maps of the sky and my favourite part, the name of each full moon and why it has that specific name. I’m looking forward to the 2024 edition!
Really useful, interesting, and well-presented. This book explains lots of astronomical concepts and terminology in excellent detail, and also helpfully outlines a month-to-month guide for what is happening in the night sky for the entire year. A great way to get to know the incredible universe we live in a little bit better.
An excellent book if you are fascinated by the night sky and want to learn something more. The maps works in paper but there's enough data to keep you reading. Highly recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
A very impressive book detailing what to look out for in our night sky and when and where to see it. Very easy to use, it can also be applicable to anywhere in the world, helping you find the celestial objects you are looking for.
Excellent night sky almanac and guide. Useful for both hemispheres. Each month includes an interesting little astronomical lesson or fact. Several space related anniversaries are also noted in their respective months. Includes some amazing twilight diagrams that were quite a revelation!
A really interesting book but the kindle copy is largely unusable as you cannot see the constellation maps or images properly. A physical copy would be great though.
