The Siren’s Song is the fourth book in Legends of the Packs, a collection of your favorite fairy tales retold in the modern world with shifters, alphas, omegas, and male pregnancy. The books can be read out of order, but for maximum enjoyment it is recommended to start with book one – Ginger Fella.
My name is Kaydee Robins. Reading has always been a passion of mine. In middle and high school, I would participate in the summer reading programs at the local library, often winning many prizes. My mom called me a hermit because I’d rather be in my room reading a book than outside or with my friends. In high school, I discovered my love for books also extended to plays; thus, my passion for theatre was born. My favorite was working behind the scenes, creating colorful lighting effects.
I followed my passion in college and obtained an associate’s in theatre arts. I also wrote short stories and fan fiction (don’t judge). While I loved the theatre, I quickly learned that it wasn’t practical to do for a living unless I got a break. So I started studying web and graphic design and did theatre as a hobby. Four years later, I had a bachelor’s in information technology, followed by a master’s a couple of years later.
Today, I work as a system administrator in a NOC (network operations center), where I monitor my companies network for server issues. Since a NOC is 24×7, I work in 12-hour shifts giving me literally half the month off to work on my hobbies.
In 2019, I decided that I was going to start writing again. My kids were finally old enough that I could concentrate more on my hobbies than theirs. I published my first book, A Spy and his SEAL, at the end of August. In addition, I design all the covers for my books,
I learned long ago. I like reading all kinds of romances, straight, gay, bisexual; it doesn’t matter. My favorite being gay paranormal. Nothing beats a good book about fated mates, shifters, and male pregnancy. Another top pick is action/suspense romance. What’s better than falling in love while dodging bullets and saving lives?
As for my personal life, I am a cisgender straight woman. I am married to a wonderful man who supports me for my weird habits and interests. He is a stay at home dad taking care of our daughter and two sons. When I’m not working, I’m reading, writing, playing video games, or watching my favorite dramas. I also bake bread, mainly sourdough, and have started using my starter in just about any baked products.
I loved this take on The Little Mermaid. I love the depth and detail she put into this book. It’s well written, nothing that you’d be thinking would be missing is missing. It moves so smoothly, never lost my interest. I love how she did my favorite character justice for a adult book! I recommend this if you love The Little Mermaid.
Kaydee Robins does it again!! Another fantastic book with excellent characters and storytelling.
Erik is a siren who's spent all of his life under the water along side his twin Dare. They usually end up causing mischief and getting into trouble with their father. When they get caught getting into trouble again their dad is at his limit. He gives them an ultimatum; either they find their mates or they are banished from the kingdom.
Jax is an Alpha who's currently being a stand in for Brody. While Brody is away two sirens get caught in a fishing trap. Since the one siren was injured they were brought into the castle, when Jax sees Erik he knows he has to have him. But should he?
I loved this book and I know I say that about all of Kaydee's books that I've read but it's just so true!! She is an amazing writer and knows how to create beautiful characters you can't help but fall in love with. There are also so,e character that you want to shake a bit, not going to lie. But that causes depth, right? You aren't going to like every character and you certainly won't like several of the characters in this book. But the characters that are really great will more than make up for the 'evil' characters.
The characters are so well written and has so much depth and backstory I'm in awe every time I read a new book that's apart of this series, I've been hooked every since I read the first book in this series and I'm still hooked. I'm so excited to see what's going to come next in this amazing series. I really hope we will get to see Dare find their mate. I would love to read a story about them, especially because then it would be another book about a siren!! Which I love reading about them along with mermen.
My only critique is yet again I feel as though we aren't seeing enough of the main characters as a couple. They get together, some big scene happens and then it's all wrapped up. Now don't get me wrong I still enjoy these books, it's just for me personally I would really like to see more of their relationship.
I highly, highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fairy tales. Don't be expecting the classic telling of them though, Kaydee puts her own twist on the classics. While this can be read as a standalone I recommend reading the previous books in this series first. It will make it a better reading experience overall.
*I received a early copy of this book from StoryOrgin and this is my honest review.*
Sigh. I give up. DNF @35%. An author I might check back in with in a few years. This is just... yeah. Not working for me. In all the books of the series so far I've skimmed or skipped all the sex scenes because they're just not that engaging. I *can* be down with instalove done right, but this is instalove done without any real on-page believable emotion behind it, other than a bit in the first book, so that's another nope for me. The ongoing editing issues I noted in the first book in the series have gotten... better. But they're still present. I get that the author is an indie and that editing costs and book production costs in general can be a lot for new authors, so I'm generally down for overlooking that stuff if the story is good and the editing improves over time (with subsequent books), but... yeah. Not so much here. And then there's just - and granted this is partly a "me" issue - the author is clearly young, and the way she portrays these supernatural characters who have been alive for 50-250 years is... just not even remotely working for me. I am 100% down with reading young characters, barely legal shit, YA age, naive and snarky and temperamental boys, and ALL that... as long as it's in the right context. But trying to buy the idea that - even if it's young "for that species" - 50+ year olds would act that way? Just no. I'm out.
I recieved and ARC from Story Origin in exchange of an honest review. The plot had so much potential. Shifter retelling of the little marmaid? Yes, please. But, this book felt like it was written by a twelve year old on Wattpad. The narration was horrible, the characters felt flat and the character development was poor. We were also meant to believe that they were in love when they didn't spend any amount of time toghether. Also, you were supposed to be able to read this out of order but i started by this one and felt like i was missing a lot. There was practically no world building and the book was too tied to what had happened before. If after all of this you are still determined to read this book, under no circumstances attempt to read it out of order.
Such a cool take on "The Little Mermaid"! This MM omegaverse tale shows that true love really can conquer all... Including different worlds. Erik and his twin are sirens living beneath the ocean, but both have a fascination for all things land-based. They also have a habit of defying their father and leaving their undersea city.
When Erik meets Jax, on land of course, being fated mates doesn't alleviate Erik's fears that they will eventually be torn apart. After all, Jax is a wolf shifter, unable to survive underwater. But, as with all Robins' books, those fears won't stop these two mates from getting hot and heavy.
This was a fun tale with some unique twists and very cool characters. I'm especially looking forward to Dare's story.
This a first for me by this author and I'll definitely be looking for more. Two reasons; I'm a huge fan of MM romance and I love shifters. I don't often get to read sea/ocean based shifter romances, which is a pity as they open up so much potential - especially as a water shifter can often also operate on land so they are literally living in three worlds - human, shifter and water. In this story we are introduced to Erik who, along with his brother Dare are trouble. Their father has given them an ultimatum - find a mate or leave their watery kingdom forever. Then, out of the blue Jax is thrown into their laps and things change dramatically. Highly recommended read.
Erik is a siren who has spent most of his life under water and causing trouble with his twin Dare. They are the sons of the king. The king gave his sons an ultimatum; find a mate within 30 days and settle down or leave the kingdom. His last chance at freedom goes wrong, he needs to rescue his twin Dare who got trapped in a net. As he goes to rescue Dare, Erik runs into an Alpha shifter. His father is going to be angry about this escapade. This is a fairytale fantasy that is entertaining and fun to read.
I really enjoyed the story. I got confused at one point between the dad and the brother (their names were too similar for my simple brain) and there were a few awkward sentences but mostly it was really enjoyable. I loved the fact that there was a smut scene in shifted from, I wanted it to happen the other way round too. I also really appreciated the non binary character the fact that the pronouns were correct all the way through (once characters were made aware of them)
