3.3 Stars - A good third!
Book #3 in the Cherringham cozy crime solves serial. See my review for the first three-part audiobooks box, Cherringham #1-3: A Cosy Crime Series Compilation. — 2:30 hours narrated by Neil Dudgeon.
Most creepy of these three novella length stories. I truly like Jack and Sarah by know. — Looking forward to more.

Another adventure for Jack and Sarah and I have to say these get better and better – mainly I think because the more I read, the more I come to love the characters. Extremely well drawn and feeling more and more like real people as we go, I can easily imagine them in the Cherringham setting, chasing down clues and discovering hidden secrets. This time murder by cake it seems, which certainly appealed to me!
Each new instalment brings us a lovely little mystery to solve and develops the setting and the people beautifully – I’m actually becoming more of a fan of this “series” idea as we go, even though I was sceptical at first, usually wanting a longer read. These really are perfect to pick up on a Sunday afternoon or on a train journey when you want a complete reading experience in a shorter amount of time.
Perfect little chunks of reading joy, I would certainly recommend them and look forward to Part 4.
Oh and as an aside – Kate Winslett and Tom Selleck. Exactly who I had in my head. I can’t help it…

Für nur 118 Seiten hat mir dieser Cosy Crime Krimi wirklich sehr gut gefallen! Spannung, Unterhaltung und interessante Charaktere sind vorhanden, so dass es wirklich Spaß macht, diesen Kurzkrimi zu lesen. Es ist der dritte Band einer Serie, in der Jack und Sarah gemeinsam Mordfälle aufklären. Ich denke aber, man kann diesen Band auch ohne Vorkenntnisse wirklich gut lesen, da der Kriminalfall in sich abgeschlossen ist und sich das Verhältnis zwischen Jack und Sarah aus dem Buch herauslesen lässt. Ich freue mich auf noch viele weitere Bände!

Just two weeks to go before the Cherringham Charity Christmas Concert. Choir rehearsals are in full swing. Then the worst thing happens: Kirsty Kimball, one of the singers, is found dead from a severe allergic reaction to one of the home-made rehearsal cakes. Jack is pulled in to help bolster the depleted choir - and soon he's convinced that Kirsty's death was no accident. Sarah agrees, and quickly the two of them are immersed in the jealousies, rivalries and passions of Cherringham's Rotary Club choir ...

Always an enjoyable read! When a member of the Cherringham choir turns out dead because of her peanut allergy, everyone dismisses murder and the police declares it as an accident, until one of the choir members asks Jack and ofcourse Sarah to see into it.

In this one, Jack and Sarah help solve the mysterious death of a choir member and Jack goes undercover in the choir to sort out the various suspects. Sarah with the help of a few people in the choir discovers a list of suspects and with Jack’s help they manage to narrow it down. It had unexpected surprises and it was a really good read with very likeable characters if a little quirky. Pick up a copy you just may enjoy it.

I dont normally go for short stories as they never seem to have time to develope either the characters or storyline. Tonight, however, it seemed too late to start reading a full novel but I wanted something and drew this one from the shelf.
I remembered the main characters from reading the earlier books and was soon re-immersed in the village life of Cherringham and the Rotarian choir practicing for their Christmas concert.
For the armchair detective, I dont think that there was enough in the story to provide grounds for a case against anyone and even after the 'big reveal' I am not sure that I know what the killer's motives really were. Perhaps I will read that bit again to see if I missed something....... ............perhaps.
I like the idea of what the authors are trying to do with this series and, to some extent, it has got round my dislike of the stort story. I will get the next one for my shelf.

Mám tyhle superkratičké detektivky moc ráda, i když tady mi motiv vraždy nakonec přijde trochu schovaný… Udělala to protože jí manžel byl nevěrný? A pak mu to řekla a on ji pomáhal zahlazovat stopy? A s kým to na začátku měla volat když šla domu?

Mu lemmik krimkaseeria. Alustasin sellega eelmisel aastal ja nüüd mõtlesin jätkata. Hästi mõnus lugemine— tegelased on eelmiste 3–4 raamatu jooksul juba nii tuttavaks saanud, mis teeb lugemise tõeliselt nauditavaks.

I've read all three of these so far--this is the third of twelve installments in this 'cozy' series.
But don't imagine little old ladies and crocheted antimacassars -- the crime-busting duo here are a computer-savvy graphic artist, who retreated back home to this small English village when her husband absconded with his beautiful boss (so she's also a newly-single mother of two) and a New York police detective, who retired to this 'quiet' English village after the death of his beloved wife. They make a good team.
Each mystery is a short, quick read. Could stand a little better editing, and it annoys me that, while so far I've been able to figure out WHO did it each time, the motive and details are really only revealed at the end. Still enjoyable, and I, for one, am looking forward to the next installment and am going to keep reading!

Der ehemalige US-Polizist Jack, der als Ersatz für das ausgeschiedene Chormitglied einspringt, findet die Todesumstände seltsam und beginnt daher mit Ermittlungen, unterstützt von Sarah, der einheimischen Hobby-Detektivin. Unter Verdacht stehen eigentlich alle aus dem Chor, denn einer von ihnen muss die Kekse gebacken haben, die Erdnüsse enthielten, obwohl alle wussten, dass dies für Kirsty das Todesurteil sein könnte. Cherringham scheint ja ein mörderisches kleines Städtchen zu sein, wird hier doch im bereits 3. Todesfall ermittelt. Jack (älterer Ex-Cop aus den USA) und Sarah (junge alleinerziehende in Cherringham geborene Web-Designerin) sind ein ziemlich gutes Team. Sie verstehen sich nahezu ohne Worte und passen trotz ihres Altersunterschieds sehr gut zusammen, wobei es sich hier nicht um eine romantische Beziehung handelt. Gibt es hier Klischees? Oh ja. Ist es vorhersehbar? Das auch. Dennoch handelt es sich um kurzweiligen, unterhaltsamen Cosy Crime, der diese Bezeichnung verdient. Die Story selbst hat mich diesmal nicht wirklich vom Hocker gerissen, sie war für meinen Geschmack ein bisschen zu lahm und spannungsfrei. Daran konnte auch die Sprecherin nichts ändern, die einen guten Job macht und der ich gerne zugehört habe. Alles in allem leichte Kost, unterhaltsam und perfekt für zwischendurch, ohne großen Anspruch, aber das muss es ja auch nicht immer sein. Gute 3/5 Sterne.

A young woman is hurrying home from choir practice one winter's night when she realizes that she's having a serious reaction to something... she doesn't understand it since everyone knows that she's allergic to peanuts so none of the baked goods after choir practice should have affected her. She opens her purse for her Epi-pen and finds only one when there should be two, but one is enough until she tries to inject herself and finds the pen is empty. In utter panic, Kirsty tries to hurry to her cottage but it's too late as she collapses on the ground unable to take in a single breath. A tragic accident, say the police, and no further investigation is made.
With Kirsty's death and a few other people leaving the choir, Jack is asked to step in and fill a tenor spot. At his first practice he's approached by one of Kirsty's friends who is certain that this death was not an accident... it was deliberate murder. As Jack and Sarah begin to investigate, they too feel that the police missed a lot. How does an Epi-pen find its way into its wrapper when it's empty? Where is the second Epi-pen that Kirsty always kept in her purse? What about some of the other choir members...do they have connections to Kirsty that would push someone to murder?
Another fun, short mystery. I'm beginning to really like Jack and Sarah as their characters are developed. It's difficult when these stories are so short though. There are 20+ of these short mysteries and a couple of novels so I guess I'll be working my way through those for a few weeks.

Short stories are hard, but when two talented authors come together, the lines are tight and the mystery moves along without the usual plumping up of unnecessary character traits or overly descriptive surroundings.
Ex-NYPD detective Jack Brennan and web designer Sarah Edwards, team up again to answer the question of who killed Kristy Kimball. Known by everyone around her that she is deathly allergic to peanuts and carries multiple epi-pens how did she manage to die from anaphylaxis on the side of the road after choir practice?
For being a small tight knit community, they have their fair share of mystery and with each new installment, which reads more like a “Murder She Wrote” episode, you become more enamored with both the people and the place that is Cherrington.

Om du tycker om Morden i Midsomer och Agatha Christie är böckerna i serien Morden i Cherringham något för dig.
Huvudpersonerna är Jack Brennan, en före detta polis från New York och Sarah Edwards, en ensamstående mamma och webdesigner. Det här är tredje boken där de båda deckarna löser mordgåtor tillsammans.
Allt börjar med att Kirsty Kimball faller ihop död på gatan efter en repetion inför årets julkonsert på den lokala Rotaryklubben. Allt pekar på att hon har fått en allergisk reaktion efter att ha ätit en hembakad kaka innan hon gick hem.
Jack och Sarah tror dock något helt annat och Jack går med i kören för att försöka lista ut vad som har hänt. Det dröjer inte länge innan han och Sarah är på väg att lösa gåtan.
En riktig mysdeckare som jag varmt rekommenderar!

Knihy ze série Vraždy v Cherringhamu, jsou sázkou na jistotu v případě, kdy hledáte pohodově laděnou, anglickou jednohubku.
Detektivky čtu ráda, občas ale nemám náladu na hluboké sondy do myslí vrahů, působících opakovaně masakry se spoustou krve a kusů těl. V takových chvílích nejraději sáhnu přesně po typu knihy, jakým je i Smrt za úplňku. Tak jako u předchozího dílu, i tu se setkáváme s všetečnou a přátelsky laděnou detektivní dvojicí, v jednoduchém, ale velice čtivě napsaném příběhu, kde vrahem je v podstatě obyčejný člověk, přemožený emocemi. Je to dobře napsaná detektivka, na líné nedělní odpoledne a se šálkem čaje, si u ní příjemně odpočinete.

I just love to read mistery novels (although, unfortunately, I don't have a lot of them).
The story, the characters, the atmosphere was so convincing, and it reminds on Hercule Poirot and Sherlock's cases! 😊
Kirsty was murdered and everyone believed she died from an allergy. So, on the call of her friend, the leading characters Sarah and Jack, are taking the case.
The story was so amazing and it kept me "wide awake" until murder was solved! But I won't write the killer's name (I don't want to accidentally ruin someone's pleasure in solving it). 😊
I know I really enjoyed the book! 😊

The story was so amazing and it kept me "wide awake" until murder was solved! But I won't write the killer's name (I don't want to accidentally ruin someone's pleasure in solving it). 😊

This is the third in a 47-book series of short murder mysteries set in the fictional Cotswolds town of Cherringham and featuring two amateur sleuths, Sarah, a single mother of two who works in advertising and Jack, a former NYPD homicide detective. They’re not twisty or terrifying or gory murder mysteries. No horror. No supernatural elements. And nothing too deep. They’re somewhat charming, “cozy” mysteries, each one a quick and fun read or listen. I like the characters Sarah and Jack, the dialog, and the direct and indirect references to Shakespeare. I think the books are getting better as we go along. Great narration by Neil Dudgeon, too.

Weihnachtslektüre scheint mich dieses Jahr nicht so wirklich anzusprechen, aber habe wahnsinnig Lust auf Cozy Crime (Empfehlungen, anyone!?) und diese Reihe hier ist sehr solide, und das obwohl die in einer Geschwindigkeit auf den Markt gehauen werden, wow. Ich bin einfach mal 40 Bücher im Rückstand, obwohl ich sie vor einigen Jahren als sie frisch rausgekommen sind angefangen habe zu lesen. Unterm Strich wirklich kurzweilig und nett für zwischendurch.

3.5 rounded up to 4 because really enjoy the narrator, Neil Dudgeon. The length of the Cherringham stories is perfect for the drive to and from my daughter's home. (It's 1.25 hours each way and story that lasts 2.5hours.)

A young business owner dies after ingesting treats containing nuts at a gathering of the Cherringham Rotary Club Chorus. The village is stunned, because the woman’s allergy is well-known, in addition to the fact that she always had at least two EpiPens with her at all times. But the police put it down to an accidental death. One of her friends, a fellow chorus member, convinces Jack and Sarah to investigate. Which of the other choristers had the motive to kill her?

I love these books. They're a very relaxing and enjoyable read. Nothing overly violent or graphic in any of the stories. It's a nice change from what I usually read. I've now finished my sixth story in the set. I'll keep going back to them when I feel I need a break from the more heavy stuff I read. I also love the American character Jack and the very English Sarah.

The Cherringham crew preparing for Christmas was quite charming but the murder by peanut fell a little flat for me. The murder mystery and sleuthing was interesting but the whodunnit ended without a clear resolution for me. Wanted a little more. Love the idea of the holiday choir performing at the town square with a Christmas tree lit with real candles.

These are fun low key crime novels so don't get too caught up in the detail. In each book so far our part time skueths have reverted to some form of illegal activity such as breaking into a dwelling to search for the final clues in order to solve the case. Just has me wondering why there is never any mention of what the local police response was but that may be over thinking this type of work?
