【Campus ABO】 Campus Male God Ice Beauty (Xiao Yiheng) x Swimming Champion School Tyrant (Li Cheng)
※ Synopsis 1:
Li Cheng is an omega, but he is thoroughly like an alpha.
He regards teachers like friends, is unrivalled in the swimming pool and also has 80 betas as his lil’ brothers.
One day, Li Cheng loudly declares ⸺ He’s determined to win the campus male god alpha Xiao Yiheng over. He must become his!
“Xiao Yiheng is smart, handsome, and tall! Moreover, he has long legs and a perky butt. His strong x capability can be seen with just a glance! Only this kind of alpha is worthy of me!”
Long-legged, perky-butt, and has strong x capability Xiao Yiheng: “……”
To show his determination, Li Cheng proclaims that he would give him a love bento every morning.
The next day, Li Cheng stayed up all night playing games and can’t get up.
The third day, Li Cheng danced the night away with others and can’t get up.
The fourth day, Li Cheng fought with the gang from the neighbouring school and can’t get up.
Then came the fifth day… The sixth day… The seventh day…
Just when Li Cheng is just about to forget his plan of courting the male god, Xiao Yiheng obstructs him inside one of the locker room’s cubicles before his swimming training.
“Xiao Yiheng, w-what do y-you want with Laozi?”
“Because I was waiting for your bento, I haven’t eaten breakfast for a whole week.” Xiao Yiheng had a cold expression. With a smile-that-wasn’t-a-smile, he continued, “But… Your pheromone smells quite delicious.”
※ Synopsis 2:
It is written in the first lesson of the 《National Health Education Course》 that the majority of the omegas’ glands are located at the back of their neck. Their glands will be hot and swollen during estrus.
However, one out of every hundred thousand people has their gland at an unusual location.
Li Cheng is one of them.
Li Cheng summons up his courage, grasps Xiao Yiheng’s hand and tremblingly but resolutely places it on his body, “⸺My gland… is here.”
Xiao Yiheng becomes the first alpha in the world to know this secret.
Not only does he know of it, but he will also claim it as his.
Sweetly done with great characters who can stand on their own. I also liked that it went into their backstories and some of the darkness they deal with which explain more about who they are and how they came to be. I'm one who usually doesn't love lots of extras and I tend to skim them, but I really liked these extras and the parts of them reminiscing made me tear up.
This is my first ABO novel. I usually stay away from them because I don't understand the idea of the second genders, but I started this book after reading another story by the same translator and I was hooked by the humor. Thank you Chipaholic for translating such a gem!
It's a campus romance that follows our MC, Li Cheng, who's a member of the swim team also widely recognized as the school delinquent at a prestigious high school. He only got in because the swim coach at the school took a gamble on him, even though he's an omega in a sports world dominated by alphas and betas. His personality is brash and impulsive and totally different from the ML, Xiao Yiheng, who has the cool prince vibes going for him and is also the #1 student with impeccable grades.
**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**
They meet due to a random encounter one night as LC is escaping from the school dorms to join his friends at an internet cafe, and from there it's a series of misunderstandings as everyone around them thinks that they're interested in each other. One of LC's underlings, Hu ge, hilariously refers to LC and XYH as mom and dad respectively, because he thinks they're friends with benefits, and later after he acknowledges LC as his big bro, he calls XYH sister-in-law XP.
Eventually they get past the misunderstandings and XYH realizes his feelings for LC and actively starts pursuing him, even volunteering to be the TA for the weekend health education class LC is taking to spend more time with him. There were lots of good moments there too, like XYH's double standards with LC vs everyone else in the class and Wei Huohuo's observation notes on their interactions. Then we get some chapters of LC being his tsundere self, where he pretends to be tough on the outside even though he likes XYH as well.
Once they get together, the relationship is smooth sailing for the most part and the story focuses more on their other struggles, LC with winning recognition for his abilities as an omega first at his swimming training camp and then at the international youth competition, and XYH with his super A parents. As they go long distance right after getting together, there are some small struggles along the way as LC is cluelessly pursued by other alphas at the swimming camp and they barely have time to even talk on the phone due to the rigorous training schedule.
However, they manage and there are some sweet scenes as well whenever XYH manages to sneak up for a visit. It was hilarious when he's caught by the security guards trying to climb over the wall and gets mistaken for a student athlete attempting to escape the training camp, and is brought to the swim team captain LC for "discipline" XD
I really like the romance here. Even though their personalities are so different, they complement each other really well. As an orphan, LC has always needed to be strong to fend for himself and his sister, and in XYH he finally has someone to take care of him. And for XYH, he grew up under the controlling influence of his parents but finds the courage to break free from them with LC's help. If he hadn't met LC, he might've stuck with the path his parents chose for him to study foreign relations and never switched to pursuing his true passion of being an artist. Here's a snippet that helps to illustrate that:
He had grown accustomed to self-reliance since childhood. As he grew older, his self reliance had become a more powerful thing. He was used to taking care of others, and he was more used to being depended on. When he was in the orphanage, his sister relied on him; when he entered school, the younger brothers only followed after him; on the field, his teammates also regarded him as the backbone... This was the first time that someone took care of him and cared about his preferences.
Li Cheng's personality had always been straightforward. He really couldn't hide his words: "Xiao Yiheng, why are you being so good to me?"
Xiao Yiheng's eyes were dark, and he asked in a low voice, "What is the reason for an alpha wanting to take care of an omega that has been marked by him?"
It was an instinct, but not just an instinct.
Li Cheng's heart was shaken and he looked away in panic.
It was so strange-was there any alcohol in the milk for primary school students? Why did he feel that his face was very hot and his heartbeat was very fast?
Overall I really enjoyed this story. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that both MC and ML are a little too excellent at whatever they do and there are too many exceptions made for them, like with XYH's admission to the art training camp and getting admitted into the prestigious art university after dropping out halfway through the training camp.
Here are some other scenes from the book I really enjoyed.
Becoming duck parents together:
Xiao Yiheng looked at the tiny lump of fluffy thing and cold-heartedly said, "I'm not interested in raising a pet. This duck should be returned to its owner. At our age, we must focus on our studies. One would lose their sense of purpose if they indulged in distractions. It'll be really extremely stupid to spend too much energy on raising a pet. Moreover, ducks don't have control over their excretion so keeping this kind of pet around is just asking for trouble... Hey, are you listening?"
Li Cheng paid him no heed as he lied face down on the lawn. He opened his phone's camera and aimed it towards the little duck's face, "Look here, ducky. You're so cute. Daddy will take a picture of you."
Xiao Yiheng: "..."
What's so 'cute' about an ugly duck that had just broken out of its shell? Does Li Cheng have an eye problem or a brain problem? If we're talking about who's cute, why don't he look at his reflection in the mirror?
------------------
LC has his cute moments, like when he used the cute hair tie provided by his sister in the middle of a fight with XYH
Li Cheng was already doing the final preparation before the fight-He used a hair tie to tie up the top of his hair. A glistening orange suddenly stood there and Xiao Yiheng couldn't stop himself from staring at the lil' orange swaying left and right.
What tactic is this?
Distracting the enemy with cuteness?
That's such a foul.
Xiao Yiheng forced himself to look away: "...Li Cheng, I only said that you have a wild character. It doesn't mean anything else."
------------------
LC tries to leave his claim on XYH discreetly by sending him breakfast before class starts, but all of their classmates misunderstood his "loving" note XP
"Wait, there is something else on the flipside!" The classmate sitting behind said loudly, "It has been signed with a heart!"
Question mark, question mark, question mark appeared on the heads of the whole class..
"But there is a sword in the heart!" The classmate said bitterly, "My God, God Xiao, does Li Cheng want to fight you after school in the small garden? Does he want to stab your heart?"
Three exclamation marks again popped up on their heads.
Xiao Yiheng was silent.
Liu Ke could clearly see that his face had a queer expression and hastened to smooth things over: "What?! Where did you see this "sword through the heart"? It's obviously an "arrow through the heart". This is a love letter! I see, Li Cheng is asking Lao Xiao to go on a date in the small garden after school."
The gossipy male classmate disagreed with Liu Ke's interpretation, insisting that it was not a "love letter" but a "duel letter". Other students in the class also stood on the same front with him, and some people kindly advised Xiao Yiheng asking him not to be afraid of the school tyrant's provocation, and to send the duel letter to the principal. They were confident that the principal would definitely come forward to solve the problem.
omo. I have no idea why I did not pick this novel earlier. I really enjoyed this novel so very much. The fluff, the humor, the face-slapping!!!
This novel is really amazing and it gave me the doki-doki feels, the clenching in my stomach (subtle, but still there). The humor was also pretty on point and I remembered LOL-ing a few times.
Translation is also amazing. I really can't fault it??? Maybe just that the novel is too idealistic?!?! Ok wait, I remembered one minor point!! One fairly minor character was pregnant and it was stated it was a baby boy, I have no idea why but few chapters down it became a baby girl. It was really minor and did not affect the reading experience but the inconsistency was there. Maybe also with certain terms used - i.e. the National Health course (whatever the term was).
The discrimination among the ABO gender in this novel is basically minimal, unlike some ABO novels where O are largely depicted as birthing machines. This novel skip it all together and produced technology of artificial wombs. The proportion of ABOs was also stated as being equal. OH and this novel was the first that I read (based on my memory) having a F/F AO couple. Also, unlike most ABO novels, this did not have any interstellar elements. But, the slice-of-life element did not cause the novel to become bland. I guess, because MC and ML was written as being super OP in their areas it felt interesting.
Overall, IMO I really enjoyed the novel and it was a fairly acceptable length. 5/5 will read again.
If i can, i want to forget this book and read it all over again. I love all element of this danmei. My favorites verse in this world to read is abo verse and my fav sport is swimming so its the combination of my favorite things. As always like every danmei, the ML and MC have an over the top characteristics. Like our omega, Li Cheng, height is over 180 and no one can defeat him in fight or swimming, always win all the time like how!?!? Super unrealistic but i love it 😂. And for the alpha, Xiao Yiheng, no.1 in school super smart, the most handsome, can sell his painting for >100 dollar artistic, and his scored no.1 on entrance exam.
This novel is so funny, heartwarming, so fluffy. The relationship between the ml and mc is not instant but take so much time. They understand each other and trust each other 100 percent. I think I’m going to read this author’s other creation.
And of course I would like to thank the translator for this lovely novel. The translation top notch!!!
this story was just so cute! i loved all the characters and the dynamics they had with each other. i normally stay away from sports centerer novels, but i think the sports aspect of this novel was written very well, so much so that i was able to understand what was going on even though i have no previously knowledge of anything involved with swimming competitively.
i especially loved how xiao yiheng and li cheng’s relationship progressed throughout the novel, it felt really natural and it made me fall in love with their characters even more. i’m so glad that they were both able to have their happy ending together.
I couldn’t put this book down. I laughed and got choked up with emotions over their ups and downs and the obstacles they over come. Li Cheng (ChengCheng) and Xiao Yiheng are so sweet and lovable. Then all the extras about their life after and their little Lychee 🥹😭😭 it’s so hard reading the last sentence of this novel.
This novel got me good.
“In truth, our tale isn’t all that spectacular, but I hope it inspires you to have unwavering love, firm and unrivaled faith, and indomitable courage.” 😭😭😭
I love the relationship between Li Cheng and Xiao Yiheng! It's not a particularly unique or special story/plot, but their moments together are still very tender. I love how they're each other's biggest supporters - they complement each other so well. I really loved the note on how Xiao Yiheng doesn't need to know how to swim and Li Cheng doesn't need to be a good painter for them to be able to understand and complement each other - they're individuals with different passions. The pacing in general was good, and the side characters were present the right amount. A super sweet and mild story :)
This book…. I almost didn’t pick it, but I’m so glad I did. This book is master piece. Xiao Yiheng and his family’s problem portray reality. And his and Li Cheng’s characters development are so steady and make-sense. I just love this book so much. I just… please read this, you won’t be disappointed. The aloof Alpha with a daring Omega, the best combo 4.8/5 ⭐️ I just wished to see Xiao Yiheng’s parents regret :]] they don’t deserve to be his parents.
I like it because the author wrote it like it is real. I dont really like sport ah but the way it was written makes me feel like i was there and i experience and watch it myself. ML and MC also 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 and i guess this is just like 2521 (korean drama) but with GOOD ENDING!
I liked it a lot, their relationship was so funny. It was a battle of wills in the beginning, but I liked how they din´t lie about their feelings and got into a relationship sincerely after.
I think after reading the story of ShaoWang, it’s very hard to not feel the mediocrity of the MC and ML in this novel. I was bored after the first 40 chapters but persisted until chapter 90 where I gave up and just resorted to skimming until the end.
There’s really nothing memorable about this story but it’s also not a terrible novel in its genre. It just feels like the author tried too hard but didn’t really get across all the ideas she wanted in an enjoyable way.
There are many wonderful concepts but the way they were put together just didn’t work for me. I didn’t particularly love the main couple, it didn’t feel like they had much chemistry or maybe the author just didn’t write it to come across that way. There was also hardly any sexual chemistry at all. The aloofness wasn’t even funny, it was just bland.
Meh... I would have given up much earlier but it’s a quick read really. The racism portion at the end was very poorly written, it will frustrate many people with views on equality and racism.
Overall, try it if you want a simple ABO read without much thinking, otherwise give it a skip. Finding good ABO novels are really hard so good luck
