THE ’90s ARE BACK — AGAIN! Everyone’s favorite ’90s incarnations of the X-Men have returned…but this time, everything is even all-newer and all-more different! Mutantkind is taking a huge leap forward by founding their own nation on the island of Krakoa, guided by Professor X, Magneto, and a mysterious long-lived woman who knows more than she should. That’s right – the ’90s X-Men are tackling the Krakoan Age thirty years early… and it’s NOT going to go the way you expect!
Pretty cool. The extra 90s graphic design elements were the best. The actual art is not that great. The anatomy of characters is pretty weird. The worst was the coloring though, it was very over-rendered. Not particularly '90s looking, either the comic or cartoon. Maybe a little like the trading card art, but that's an odd thing to emulate. The story was pretty basic, but fun enough, the dialogue was the highlight, just full of silly '90s-isms. The ending was a little confusing to me, I don't know if its referencing a main continuity thing, either something I don't remember from House of X or something I don't know about from the more recent comics. In any case, it was fun but I'll wait for the trade to read the rest.
A lot of fun, if not a great comic book. The twist had me side-eyeing a little (no spoilers from me), but it's worth a read. Doesn't have the exact gravitas as the House of X series, but maybe it's not supposed to. I find myself wondering if Psylocke is Betsy or Kwannon here (prolly Betsy), but her inclusion is a welcome one. Perhaps my criticisms are unfair, as an exact duplicate of House of X would be boring, after all! In conclusion, worth a read with a lot of potential.
Well that was certainly a thing I read today. Maybe I should start reading press releases on new books from Marvel. Because I'm not sure if this was supposed to be funny or nostalgic or a bit of both. The phrasing is why I don't rewatch the 90s cartoon.
