When I say this book WRECKED me, I am NOT joking. The good first half, and more, of this book had my heart just squeezing in that lovely pain when the author just WANTS you to suffer. It was very much worth it, however. So worth it. I also loved how we got to know even more about the world they live in, about the gods and other supernatural creatures. Not to even mention the endings teasing with the vampire. I demand to know more about him. I love him already and I have known him only for a few pages. The characters were once again brilliantly built and brought together. The relationship between them, especially between Zoealla and Finn is something amazing. The author really highlighted the importance between the two of them and how the dynamics actually work with their identities. I cannot WAIT to read the next book! The author always keeps me on my toes in all the good ways.
Ugh! This book. Where do I start. The first 2/3 absolutely gutted me. The emotions you feel for Zoella literally brought me to tears at times. Even though I knew this was a book there were times I felt so helpless because I wanted to help her in some way but I couldn't. You also feel for the men in her life. Finn for being true to himself and knowing that he can't change who he is but also the absolute fear you feel from him while he's coming to terms with his new reality. The helplessness that Orion and Micah feel being torn between Zoella and Finn. Wanting to love one without hurting the other but not being able to. I haven't enjoyed a book series this much in a really long time. I can't wait for Antoinette's story!
Zoella, a majorly traumatised (from both her murder and her childhood) and brand new succubus is caught in the snare of fate! She and two “beta” incubi - which only differs from an “alpha” incubus in that they have shorter horns and slightly different powers - are nearly killed in a falling elevator. After healing the strangers, she needs her energy/magic replenished. The only way to do that is to *woohoo fun time* and TURNS OUT these two betas are fated mates! The problem arises when their alpha is in fact gay.
Yeah. The alpha male of this book is gay ie. Not attracted to the main female character. How is this a romance??? Well, the two betas for sure fall head over heels (kinda insta-lovey but when you can hear someone’s thoughts, getting-to-know-you happens real fast I suppose) and there are some super fluffy moments. There’s a happy ending all the same - ******spoiler***** the gay alpha sleeps with her to bond their minds. But, I appreciate that he’s STILL gay at the end! He wasn’t “cured” or something - and I love it!! It’s like… M-MMF? I guess?
There’s also a subplot of a snake fashion magazine editor in chief (total Devil Wears Prada vibe) and human characters being attacked - it’s not THAT big of a mystery, but given how distracted the MC’s are, it understandable that they don’t see it right away.
As always for this series, there’s elements of trauma discussed. The MFC (main female character) was assaulted, murdered, held captive, freed, and not to mention abused as a child - so heaps of issues there. The alpha was a war veteran so nightmare memories there. Thankfully, there’s a happy ending for all of them!!!
I really really want to see more about the vampire in the epilogue!!! Just in general, I want more!!!
For the first 50% i was fighting back tears, oh my heart was breaking for Zoella. Oh you could feel the pain and worthlessness pouring off the pages. All whilst wanting to shake Finn mostly but the other two in to action. But you could also understand why, this whole concept was done so good. Im so pleased that the author kept Finn true to his character and didnt just suddenly turn him like ive seen other authors. Would love a novella to catch up on the characters and to see more about Ripley. Really enjoyed all of this authors work and look forward to all her releases
After finishing, in a 3 day span, all the books that have been released so far in this series by Becca S - I can definitely say that I'm a fan! THAT cliffhanger / how this book ended *fans self* can we convince Becca to release the culmination of that scene with the vampire tattoo artist? Give the people what they want, and the people are rooting for Zoella to build her harem 😬😬
Eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. Luckily it's expected to be out in a week, so I don't have to wait long!
I was skeptical on how the fmc not actually dating the alpha would play out. I gotta say, it turned out better than I anticipated. Also, I cried. This book just has something in it that pulls at you, that feels so relatable that I just felt what they were going through. Also, I’m sad we keep meeting these other guys at the end of their stories. It feels like we’re missing out on getting to know these characters & that makes me sad.
The first half of this book was heart wrenching as the main character dealt with some very justifiable issues. I really enjoyed watching her grow and develop. A great book - you won’t be disappointed.
