Nobody warned me what it’s like to look back with regret. To be left wondering, What if…?
I’ve never been that guy. The one who questioned his choices. Who didn’t have a purpose. If I wanted something, I worked harder than everyone else and made it happen.
I had my life planned out until Carys Murphy changed the game.
She was my best friend’s little sister long before she became my stepsister. Loving her was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. But not all love stories have happy endings.
With the risks higher than ever, and the flames rising around us, can we find our way back?
Worth the Fight is the second book in The Risks We Take duet and I really enjoyed the second installment a lot more than the first book.
This book picks up right off where Worth the Risk stopped. Cooper is hurt and is dealing with the devastating betrayal of Axel. He and his team cannot believe he betrayed them and killed Linc. Together they decide to go after him and get justice for Linc. But the only way he can truly invest in this mission is if he pushes his biggest weakness away. And his biggest weakness is Carys. Because she would be the biggest leverage his enemy could get.
But Carys isn't easily deterred and she vows to love Cooper unconditionally and be there for him every second of every day. So the roles are reversed in this book. And that is what this book is about. How far are you willing to push away the love of your life? And how far is the person loving you willing to go?
Emerson's story line in this book is heartbreaking but also beautiful and resilient. I really enjoyed that that story line was added in this book.
I did wish the quest to go after Linc was a bit more exciting. I wish they were more proactive. They only focus on one thing while there are tons of ways to go after someone.
I also didn't really enjoy Aiden's self entitlement throughout this entire duet. He really annoyed me several times.
But all in all Worth the Fight is an enjoyable book and I am super glad I read it. 4 big stars for this second installment in this beautiful duet.
The author added a part three in this series at the end of this book called Worth it All. And my goodness that is by far my most favorite part of this entire series. That was a huge 5 star addition to this duet. It's a beautiful, heartwarming and stunning addition to the huge cast of characters in this book. I even teared up at one point. So I am really glad the author added that bit when she revamped this series!
These were my first Bella Matthews books, but definitely not my last!
Wow. I haven’t read too many duets but these are on another level. So much angst, love and steam. I love these two! Bella Matthews is an auto buy for me and I love her books!
What an amazing ending to this duet. I was on pins and needles waiting to get the conclusion to Cooper and Carys and holy love stories did this ending give me everything I needed. I had my theories on how the conclusion to this duet would go but I was so wrong and beyond happy that I was wrong in my thoughts. This story . . . I said after reading the first book in this duet that I didn't know that I needed Carys's story until I got it and this just cemented that. I love Cooper but Carys . . . she freaking owns me. I love who she grew to be and trust me when I say you want to read this duet just so can you come to love her. She is beyond worth it. I mean, there is a reason why Cooper fell in love with her. The conclusion to this duet had all of the things that I love in my reads: suspense, romance, laughter, swooning, some tears and all the heart. I adored this duet but am beyond sad it is over . . . I feel like this is the end of an era that I am not ready to say goodbye to. I guess I need to do a reread.
Ending the Game is the conclusion to Carys and Cooper’s story and it is a RIDE. If you thought book one was emotional and angsty, then you’re going to love book two. It’s everything book one was, but you have to add in a dash of suspense. There are so many moments in this book where I didn’t think HEA was going to be possible. I was honestly holding my breath at some points in this book, but that’s all I’m saying because you need to read it for yourself. Just know that your heart is going to break a bunch in this one, but I promise by the end you’ll be healed and happy once again.
All in all this was a great read if you love “sort of” second chances, military romance, and romantic suspense.
Cooper Sinclair has always said that falling in love with Carys Murphy was the easiest thing he ever did, but now that so much more is at stake, how can he allow himself to put her in danger? After the attack that cost him everything, Cooper is determined to keep Carys far away from the dangers that are currently in his life - even if it means he must push her away.
What he wasn’t planning on, however, is that Carys would fight back. Her stubbornness is one of the reasons why he loves her, but in this case, it might get her killed, and that is the one thing he wouldn’t be able to bear. Cooper is determined to protect Carys at all costs, even if he’s convinced himself that means that they can’t be together. Now, he must solve the issue of their safety before he drives a wedge so deep that it becomes irreparable.
Oh. My. God. This conclusion to Bella Matthews’ “The Risks We Take Duet” was everything. Absolutely everything. At the end of the previous novel, Cooper and Carys are in a precarious position in their relationship, and this one picks up right where the first one left off. This book is incredibly dark, angsty, and emotional, but I loved every second of it. Cooper and Carys have the kind of love that people write songs about. Such a love is so rare that when you find it, you grab onto it with both hands and never let it go. Even though they both had to put a lot of work into their relationship to sort out their issues, the fact that they did speaks volumes about how much they truly love each other.
Carys. I felt so bad for her, especially in the beginning. Cooper isn’t technically allowed to tell her all the details about the attack, so when he unexpectedly shuts her out and continues to push her away, she’s floored. To her credit, though, she stands her ground. Carys refuses to believe that this is the end for her and Cooper, and I think that her determination is a huge part of what saved them. Cooper. Oh my gosh, this poor man. I want to give him all the hugs. He has been through an extremely traumatic experience, and because the threat isn’t over, he feels as though the best thing to do is distance himself from Carys so she doesn’t become a target. But since he loves her so much, that decision is slowly destroying him. Like I said, this book is heavy, and angst is a huge factor in everything that happens plot wise. But I couldn’t have been happier with how this duet ended. Cooper and Carys’ love story was beautiful and epic, and I highly recommend to anyone who loves an angsty, well written romance!
Unputdownable! This book!! What a freaking fantastic ending to this duet! Ending the Game picks up right from the cliff Bella Matthews left you dangling by your fingertips from. But, if you thought things were about to be all peaches and roses think again. It turns out Bella wasn’t quite done taking my heart through the ringer. She ensured I lacked for nothing when it came to the angst, holy hell that angst was intoxicating.
Everything is out in the open now, Coop and Carys know their feelings for each other are 100% true, but there are forces, both internal and external that the couple must work together on. I was desperately invested in their hea and I was left on the emotional edge as I watched them work through everything.
I loved Carys’ determination, she refused to let Coop allow his demons to win. No matter how hard he tried, she would not stop fighting for him. My gawd and Coop, if I thought I loved him in book one, those feelings multiplied tenfold, he is the ultimate book husband!
I must say I loved the moments of levity that was brought in to balance the heavy, I think it was done so flawlessly. Leave it to Bella to make me to fall in love and crave stories from every single supporting character, I just positively adored this amazing crew.
I volleyed between devouring this book with zest while dreading every minute that brought me closer to the last page. Coop and Carys have a story that will embed itself in you, mind, body and spirit.
I am happy to report I have been completely put back together again after the murder scene which was the result of the cliffy in book one 🙈. Dramatic? Maaaaaayybe. Maybe not, lol. You should definitely judge for yourself and read this fracking fantastic duet ❤️. Despite all that happened in book one, there is a LOT to unpack in book 2 as well. Family drama fallout, betrayal, and, of course, a relationship to fix. This story is beautifully written and will tug on every heart string you have. The character development is phenomenal. You fall in love with all these characters and become so invested in their happiness. Even the side characters - you just want all the stories and all the happy endings, lol. And good fracking Lordy the steam! The chemistry between Cooper and Carys is off the charts and those smexy scenes were 🔥🔥🔥. I really can't say enough about this duet and the author - she did a fabulous job with some really touchy subjects and it was obvious she did her research. Can't wait to see what she writes next!!
Okay. WHUT. So good!!! This is one of those moments you fall in love with a new author completely and you’re excited to read their back log. This book was AWESOME. Picked right up and once again it was a total page turner and I couldn’t put it down. This was such a fast paced book but in a way that also gives you SO MUCH. Highly recommend!
Those are the first two words I would use to describe this book… along with spicy😮💨
Carys and Cooper really don’t have it easy. But that doesn’t stop them, especially Carys for fighting for the man she loves after their falling out and the scary phone call she recieves while hes on a mission. This was yet another rollercoaster of emotions and thank goodness it was a HEA!
These two characters might be some of my favorites, the development from the both of them from the first book to the end of this one was a beautiful thing to read!
Unexpected suspense in this book still have me mad. REALLY? how could he? How dare he? The absolute AUDACITY… excuse me? I’m still livid. I cannot believe any of it. I reread a few scenes multiple times because I refused to believe it…🙄
So grateful for the ARC, especially after the cliffhanger in book 1.
Can the second book be better than the first? Absolutely. Did Ms. Matthews wow me? Yes she did. There was no way to figure out what was going to happen in book 2. Nothing. I was shock when I started and at every turn a new mystery popped up.
I am in aww of this book. Bella took us on this phenomenal adventure with some highs and some lows. It was full of undeniable chemistry, deception, love and family. I couldn’t put this down and devoured this book from page one.
Bella weaves a story that will suck you in and you’ll never want it to end. She’ll bring the emotion but with any good romance your heart will be full in the end.
This duet was so worth the wait and I look forward to more from Ms. Matthews in the future. She has become a go to author for me.
5 PHENOMENAL STARS!! Wow, just wow!! This one was phenomenal, the author touched our hearts with everything she has. You must read this duet....so good.
I really enjoyed this duet despite the terrible communication that Cooper and Carys had. I was looking for angsty and this delivered though I wish it was even angstier.
Also realized too late that this is a spinoff series. When there were so many established couples mentioned I had a feeling and did some digging. I think it worked ok as a standalone duet but I definitely plan to read everyone else’s books now. I really wish authors did a better job of spelling out that a book/series is a spinoff so you can read in order if you prefer to. But I digress.
Very enjoyable and look forward to reading more from this author.
This was the perfect conclusion to their story after they've both overcome so much individually and as a couple. Honestly, they might be my favorite couple just for how deeply they care for each other and how they have always found their ways back to one another. I definitely shed more tears while reading this and my heart did feel a little broken at times, but it was pieced back together. This duet was honestly everything for them and I absolutely devoured it.
Kindle Unlimited: Yes Stand-alone: No- Duet* Author: Bella Matthews Rating: 5/5 ⭐️ Spiciness Rating: 4/5 🌶 POV: First Person Dual Perspective Main Couple: Cooper and Carys Trope(s): Step-Siblings, Protector, Second Chance
“Cooper gathers my face in his hands and holds my half-lidded gaze with his as he surges up once more and then comes with my name in his lips like a silent prayer. I don’t know how I ever thought I could live without this man.”
Ending The Game is the second book in the Duet The Risks We Take. Books must be read in order because Bella completely decimated our hearts with that cliffy. And, is connected with characters from Bella’s Kings Of Kroydon Hills and Restless Kings Series. This is what I love about interconnected series. And, Bella has given us the absolute perfection of family and friends. This story needed two parts. And, with each word I wanted their HEA even more. The way Cooper loves on Carys is complete goals. I may have swooned a few times for him myself.
Ending The Game starts off with Cooper’s POV and we get the backstory on how the special op’s mission went sideways. It doesn’t unbreak our hearts at all.
Carys is dealing with the fallout from breaking the news of her and Cooper’s secret relationship, plus his rejection.
It was heartbreaking, mind blowing, soul deep with feels watching these two overcome ALL the obstacles.
Least favorite of all the books in the entire series so far. I really think a second book was not needed especially because it was so similar to the first. One of them is denying their feelings while the other is all in. There is very little in terms of family relations that comes up. Both Nattie and Aiden easily forgive them for keeping secrets like it's no big deal after the way they reacted. The story seemed forced and stretched unnecessarily. Some of the first book could have been left out and the story could have been completed in just one book in my opinion.
I repeat. WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS DUET?! It had me on a rollercoaster and I loved it. Ate this shit up. Cooper and Carys have my heart. I love them. Albeit ngl I was calling her Cary in my head the entire time 💀. Just Carys was not sticking. But their story AHHHHH. Just go read this duet. Please
The second half of this duet picks up where the first book left off: Cooper Sinclair has been brought to the hospital after a military operation went wrong. Rushing to his side is Carys Murphy, his stepsister and recently ex-girlfriend. She has finally realized that they were meant to be despite all odds, but it is now Cooper that seems hesitant to pursue their happily ever after.
Just when I think that Bella Matthews broke me with the first book, she finishes the job with this read. The angst, the suspense, the spice - it all comes together nicely to wreck your soul.
I love the roller-coaster-like pacing of the book. Matthews does a great job of balancing the adrenaline-inducing suspense with the slower moments of steam and angst. The slower moments still kept me engaged as we get more emotionally invested in Coop and Carys. I really enjoyed the development of their relationship as they address loose ends from the previous books together.
Similar to Matthews' previous books, the ensemble cast adds more life and relatability to the story. Emerson, Rook, the Sinclairs, and the Murphys provide more depth to our main characters without taking away too much of the spotlight.
Even though we are on the other side of the country from Kroydon Hills, I still love the stories that come from this book universe. This duet further cements this series as an instant TBR addition for me.
** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Bella Matthews and Social Butterfly PR for providing an ARC. **
I adored the first book of the duet and this book was even better! It starts off right where book one left off so there’s no having to wait to get to the bottom of that unexpected cliffhanger. I wont lie and say it didn’t hurt though. You do however get more information about the situation early on even if it’s not quite what you want to hear. There are broken hearts desperately trying to mend while smack dab in the middle of complications and danger. So many emotions are flowing at every turn but the story itself keeps a steady pace through it all. There is a part with one of the side characters that absolutely broke me due to the way it reflected my own personal experience and was so well done it was sort of healing in a way. Finding a small bit of comfort in that was definitely a highlight moment for me in the story and had a big impact on where this book landed for me amongst my favorites. You see all of the characters struggle, heal, love, and support each other through everything they experience and even in the midst of the danger and drama it still has such a wholesome feel. I love that even though there is a main couple in this story I still felt like both books centered around the entire group of friends and family because they all played such an important part in each other’s lives. And the humor towards the end of the book between the brothers and best friends had me cackling and was so perfect I couldn’t stop smiling. This duet is a story that I am so incredibly happy I took a chance on. It’s one you don’t want to skip over for sure!
Book two in The Risks We Take duet and oh my world! This is Bella Matthews writing at its finest. You have to read Changing The Game before you can dive in into this book. Cooper Sinclair is back in the States after an OP going wrong and his world is down to ashes. He needs to find out what went wrong and fix it before he can take care of himself and his feelings for Carys. Carys Murphy is devastated but she knows she has to own up her mistakes and fight hard to show Cooper they are meant to be. This is the type of story that’s enrapturing and you just want to devour in one sitting. Cooper and Cary’s’ story has never been rainbows and unicorns, it’s been unconventional and full of obstacles but that’s exactly what makes it perfect! They go through everything with such conviction, with such dedication to each other that makes you swoon and feel their love in your bones, in your soul. The families are fantastic as always and adding not only Coopers friends group texts but also Cary’s’ gives the best laughs and lightens the mood. It’s really a perfect book.
Thank you, Bella for delivering another out of this world story!
Ending The Game is the second book in the Risks We Take duet by Bella Matthews, which continues on from the end of book one and even going back a little so we know what Coop went through.
There’s a lot Carys and Coop have going on, both collectively and apart, and they need a chance to work through things. Thank goodness this story has dual POV’s otherwise the uncertainty of their relationship would have been crushing.
Risks We Take duet has been a perfect representation of the miscommunication trope from the first book, Changing the Game right through to the second, Ending the Game, where all that misery and sacrifice haven’t been wasted as Carys and Coop finally get their HEA.
Once again the emotion, passion, heartache and grief was all well written in this book, which has allowed the reader to build a connection with the characters.
Overall whilst this series is interconnected with characters from other books Bella Matthews has written, Risks We Take duet can be read as a complete standalone.
God this book, this whole duet was fantastic! Easily the best duet I've read all year, hands down. These two had a hell of a journey filled with pain, resentment, loss, but still so much love. I was enthralled from the very beginning and didn't want this book to end. Bella really outdid herself with this couple, and I can't wait for you all to read it!
I can't wait for more in this world! I have a feeling Rook and a certain single mom will be making an appearance soon and I can't wait!
Make sure you all one click!!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions**
Ending The Game by Bella Matthews was even better than Changing The Game, and I assure you, it was epic. The second part of the duet was even more intense, more anxiety-inducing, and more thrilling. Big surprises took place that got me tongue-tied. Lies, betrayals, and heartbreaking moments shocked me to my core but true love conquered all. Love like Cooper and Carys’ is probably one in a million and I would love to read more stories like theirs more often if possible. To be honest, I am greedily waiting to dive into the lives of the Kingston family of Kroydon Hills. I am sure they will not only meet but exceed the expectations❤️
Recomendo imenso! 🥰
P.s. este tbm tem 🌶️🌶️🌶️

After how Carys and Cooper's first book ended I wasn't sure my heart could cope with more emotions like that book brought out but my goodness did I love this ending. There was so much packed into it. Family, friendship, heartbreak, loyalty, love and loss as well as betrayal and a hell of a lot of heart. Maybe a few laughs too care of Rook and Emerson. The b**b part had me dying laughing which was much needed I thought. I just have no words for how much much I loved Carys and Coopers duet. Other than just brilliant
Book Title: Worth the Fight Book Series: The Risks We Take Duet Book in Series: #2 Standalone: No
This goes back a little from where the first book left off, and we get to see things from Cooper’s POV.
Carys finally realized what was important, and she decided she no longer cared what anyone thought about her and Cooper. And I loved seeing her fight for him, even though he kept pushing her away.
There is much more heartache, angst, and emotion in this story as the characters (main and side) navigate their life after what happened in the first book. And there was still danger in the air for them.
Cooper and Carys definitely went on an emotional journey, but they truly loved each other.
What an ending to a fantastic duet. Bella Matthews has outdone herself with this. There were some twists and turns (many of which I did NOT see coming) and plenty of those steamy times we all love to read.
I’ve been not so patiently waiting for a long time to see Cooper get his happily ever after and I have loved this ride to see him finally get there. I loved reading this story and it was the perfect end to a stellar duet.
Check review for book 1. This second part of the duet did not disappoint. It kept me awake, wanting to read. There's heartbreak, tension, angst, love. I love it!
