Jackson Flint returns for another adventure in the funky village of Yellow Springs, Ohio.

The case is not what it seems. Is there a secret to the old cabin in the woods, or is Jackson wasting his time?

The stakes go higher when bikers demand an unnamed bounty and the woman who hired Jackson has to shoot one of them in self-defense.

Jackson gets help from his ex-Marine friend Brick and tech specialist J’Leah to follow the trail of the bikers and a series of bizarre stories about a family treasure.

Things are complicated by a homeless and troubled teen that Brick takes in after a strange encounter. The teen shows up at a bad time and puts all of them in danger.

When the secret of the cabin is revealed, Jackson’s client is confronted with a legacy entwined in local history and her ancestors’ escape from slavery.

I picked up the first Jackson Flint mystery when I found out it was based in Yellow Springs, a city very close to where I live & where I spent much of my teenage years visiting. It made the book(s) more interesting knowing the places Jackson went & some that I had been to. I thought this second story was even better than the first. The cast of characters we're getting to know better & care for & vested in their futures. The mystery was interesting & the author was able to impart some history that I didn't even know but found very interesting. I highly recommend both installments in this series & cannot wait for the next in the Jackson Flint story.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, but this took everything up a notch. The plot was tighter. The pacing was very smooth. The characters' identities seemed more fleshed out, more real, up and down the scale from protagonist to bit characters.

I really got a feel for what it's like in suburban, urban, and country town Ohio. The setting is as much a part of the story as the characters or the plot. Geisel has upped his game impressively from the first book in this series.

When's #3 coming out?
