Loving the Wild #3

Taking A Risk

Rate this book
Heartbroken, grief-stricken, and lost after the death of his girlfriend, Philippe threw himself into his career and focused on being the best on the ice. Shanna wasn't his true mate, he wasn’t sure he'd ever find his mate, but he'd love to have someone to share the full moon with after years of doing it solo. He doesn't share much of himself or his animal side with anyone.

In the past five years, he's only been able to open up to one person so he figured it might be nice to share everything with Kelsey. That included what he really was, all she had to do was say yes. When she did, that's when he was in for the biggest surprise of all, he found his mate.

Kelsey thought hooking up with the moody professional player wouldn't lead to anything other more than casual dating. When he bit her, she was in for the biggest surprise of her life. Now she has to figure out how to control herself so she can keep all of Philippe's secrets and the fact that most of the lore she grew up with wasn’t that fictional.

Watch as these two go from something casual to something so much more.

If you love shifters and hockey romances, this is the book for you.

*** Making A Move takes place in the Loving the Sound series (a contemporary hockey romance series) timeline but it's not necessary to read the other series first to enjoy this one.

This is a sweet paranormal sports romance with strong characters in Kelsey and Philippe. It's a friends with benefits romance before they discover they are fated mates. It's well written and I enjoyed reading.

This was so cool! Love the relationship and the way they unfolded together. I could feel the love and see the changes being made. Kels is very brave to become part of the shifter world and one that is quick to take the plunge. Especially when she is a vegetarian in the human world. Philippe did a great job at finding her true mate. Funny how excited she made him feel and became smaller after mating. Too cute.

Not a typical boy-meets-girl story. Not a typical paranormal romance.

Taking a Risk is Delaney’s story in the world of Minneapolis Wild Hockey. So far in this series we have met Dez, a professional hockey player turned into a werewolf by a rogue, and Kirby, a shifter and up and coming player who has grown up in an established wolf pack. The Wild is wild with vampires and other types of shifters as well (bears, sea creatures, etc), not to mention the occasional mesmerized human. These men play hard and live by complicated rules while trying to fit into the ‘polite society’ of professional ice hockey. This story goes a long way toward filling in some of the spaces in the world-building surrounding this spin-off of the Loving the Sound hockey romance series.

The reader gets to see this world through the eyes of newly turned sea otter shifter, Kelsey, who as it turns out is the fated true love mate of Phillipe Delaney, resident team grump. The two meet when Delaney seeks out a grief support group at her holistic shop, to help him deal with the death of his previous partner. She offers the reader insight into the shifter experience as well as the interpersonal relationships between the players and their respective mates. Plus, we get to learn the rules and the lore right along with her. It is great to catch up with returning characters and the setup for the promised Wild next-gen series is more than exciting.

This was an amazing story that pulled me in from the beginning and I loved every minute of it. It’s the story of Phillipe and Kelsey. He’s a Shifter hockey player who’s dating her and he’s willing to commit to her even though she’s not his true mate but when he bites her during sex it triggers the meeting bond and they were true mates. It’s a great story and I highly recommend it.

Philippe found his one true mate in Kelsey unexpectedly especially after his relationship with Shanna. Was in entertaining and enjoyable read a change from the norm of wolves, dragons and bears.

I love when a romance doesn't follow an expected outline. In this book, we get to see a side character from earlier books get his story. This isn't your typical boy meets girl, falls quickly, unnecessary drama separates them, then they come back together story. Instead, we see two people who are casually dating find out they're soulmates.

I loved seeing a softer, unexpected side of Delaney and I think he found his perfect match.

I needed the water to cool off in. Snarly hockey alpha hunk and a sweet yet assertive woman to keep him in check! From the beginning to the end I liked the sweet story from grief to HEA.
But I felt like I was missing something.
I liked the back and forth between Kelsey and Philippe, yet I felt like it needed more. (Or maybe I just wanted more.) It was a sweet read and hit all the feels.
If you like paranormal, hockey and fun you will enjoy this book.

This book was just simply great! I loved Phillipe and Kelsey together. They started out as friends with benefits but ended up being fated mates. This is my first book about sea otter shifters so that was enlightening.
This author creates a great story! Highly recommend!

This genre isn't my normal read and that is why it only gets 4 stars. It tells the story of how otter shifter Phillippe 'turns/ mates' with Kelsey and how she adjusts to becoming a shifter too. It follows on from the previous 'Wild' hockey series. It is a sweet story.
I enjoyed reading Phillipe and Kelsey's story although there wasn't any conflict in the story or risk. I feel that this could have been rectified by expanding on the beginning of the book- how they met and the circumstances ( grief counselling regarding the death of his previous girlfriend).
I recommend if you enjoy paranormal shifter tales

I was was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy. I really enjoy hockey romance and have loved all of Kats other books. I was very excited to read Delaney’s story. I have read the other two books in the Loving The Wild series, which is where I got to know Delaney. He is a total grump in those so it was nice to see his sweet, soft side with Kelsey in this book. I enjoyed the way she described her paranormal world of shifters from the viewpoint of a new shifter. It was like she was teaching us humans about the paranormal world. I look forward to the next generation which is mentioned at the very end of this book.

This book is part of a series and you may want to read the books in order because many of the characters were introduced in the previous books.

This isn't my normal genre for reading. It involves hockey players and shape shifters, werewolves, sea otters, vampires - you get the idea. I found the book fun, interesting and even funny. It is for mature audiences because of the language and explicit sex scenes.

If you're open for a different kind of read, please consider this one.

I have been waiting patiently(maybe not so much) for Delaney's story and it didn't disappoint. We finally get to learn his story and more about sea otter shifters. The heroine is able to handle his strong alpha personality and help calm him at times. There are some interesting twists and turns but I will leaves those to readers to find out.

I enjoyed the book, but I felt like the story started in what should have been the middle. At the very least, it really needed a prologue with their meeting at the store. I wanted to see how they met and watch their relationship grow and build toward discovering that they were mates. I would recommend reading the two previous books in this series first. It would make this book more enjoyable even though it could be read as a standalone.

Kelsey and Philippe met when he went to her store for the grief counseling group after his girlfriend died. They dated on and off, asked her if he could bite her and she turned into a sea otter. Philippe when he turned this time he was regular size so they were mates. Good book.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Loved 😍

This book comes at you from a different angle, we get the pov from a newly changed shifter and I love it. This book is about Delaney the resident otter shifter for the Wild. He and Kelsey have been casually seeing each other, having a friends with benefits relationship. One night Delaney takes a chance by marking Kelsey and bringing her into his world. Kelsey is now an otter shifter. Delaney wanted another otter in his life, he never imagined when he bit Kelsey that she would turn out to be his mate. I loved the relationship between Delaney and Kelsey. How it grew, how we got to see the love and care they have for each other. We get to see a nicer sweeter side of Delaney that caring for his mate brings out. Kelsey deals with all the new changes in her life without having a mental breakdown. I throughly enjoyed this book, just waiting to see what Kat Obie comes up with next.

Arc received for an honest review.

Philippe and Kelsey's Story . . .

Philippe Delaney has been upset and moody after the death of his girlfriend. He wants someone to share his animal side with, even though he doubted he would ever find his mate. Phillipe has a friends-with-benefits relationship going on with Kelsey and thinks about telling her that he is a shifter. When he bites her as they are together, Kelsey ends up as a sea otter! She is his true mate! Will they find happiness now that he has that special one to share his life with? Will she adjust to the shifter life and enjoy her sea otter animal side?

This is a slightly different way of presenting shifters from what I have seen in other stories, but I enjoyed it. Each author has their own vision of what their shifter world should be like, so it makes the stories more unique and interesting. Grab your copy and enjoy Philippe and Kelsey’s story.

Kelsey has drawn close to the grumpy ice hockey player, Philippe over the years, but she never thought it was going to be anything more. For she knew he was still grieving and didn't seem ready for a real relationship. Although that changes, will their relationship work, when it's something deeper? I loved this beautiful story, Kelsey is known as hippie chick (due to where she works), but she is so much more than that, and I couldn't help loving her. Philippe was known for his attitude, but it hides his softer loving nature (so easy to love him too). I loved the drama, their fun together, and how it all played out.

OMG!!!! This was by far my favorite Wild (and I’ve loved all the Wild). I didn’t want to put it down! What a creative mind Obie has! I love every choice she made and the entire plot - it wasn’t formulaic. It wasn’t what I expected. I was skeptical of where Obie was going by getting them together in the first chapter or two but HOLY crap she grabbed me and didn’t let me go. Obie did a fantastic job explaining the paranormal world she created. I didn’t feel lost even though it was like nothing I’d ever read before. I absolutely loved it!

Phillipe Delaney has been having a friends with benefits relationship with Kelsey. One night he decides to take a chance and tell her about what he is and share his life, next thing Kelsey knows she is a sea otter and Phillipe is calling her his mate.

But has with the other couples it is not smooth sailing for the newly mated pair. I really love this series and cannot wait to see which player finds his mate next.

I love revisiting the other team members and their families. I love how Kelsey is so trusting of Phillipe and how she falls into her new reality. Phillipe is a good hero, strong, grumpy, protective but I wanted more of their relationship before they jumped in with both feet. The book is smooth and logical and easy to read and very enjoyable.

This is a good paranormal hockey romance with some uniqueness to the plot and shifters. It is a fairly quick and short read that is also fast paced. This one is about Kelsey and Philippe; a friends with benefits that turns more. The story develops very nicely with some entertaining and fun aspects. They form a friendship that leads to more. Such a good romance and read.

If you are looking for a sweet paranormal romance that switches things up just enough to make it interesting, this book is for you. Jayden and Kennedi balance each other out as they fall in love defying Kennedi's Alpha father and come into their own as young adults. Not to mention figuring out how to navigate the shifter twist Kat Obie throws in.

This is the third book in this series. This is the story of Philippe and Kelsey. Phillippe is an alpha male shifter and one of the grumpiest hockey players on the Wild Cats team. He lost his girlfriend and the grief shaped him to how he is. Believing his mate is dead, he is trying to work through his grief. Phillippe meets Kelsey through her grief counseling workshops and begins a friendship. Kelsey owns her own business and they slowly became friends. Deciding that he is tired of keeping the truth from Kelsey, he invites her over on the full moon. He plans to show her what he truly is. Low and behold, they find out that they are fated mates. And Kelsey's life is turned upside down. We get to see how they both work together to help Kelsey embrace her new life. This is their story. It is well written and easy to read. I did enjoy this book but it is not my favourite of the series. I found Kelsey's adaptation to her new way of life a little too easy. But it is definately a fun read.
