Joel Ramirez never asked to be a hero. Being a villain is even worse.
Tempers are simmering in Owl Creek as a contract dispute at the local mill turns violent and Joel is caught in the middle. Accused of siding with the mill owner, he’s targeted by a resentful public. When news breaks of his relationship with Valerie Fisher—wife of famed white-collar criminal Jordan Fisher—the backlash is swift.
With media attention intensifying, Val retreats in an effort to protect Abby, keeping even Joel at a distance. Struggling to make ends meet, she fights to prove that she can take care of her daughter alone. But when anonymous photos reveal a new threat to Abby, Val is pushed to the breaking point.
Can Val and Joel uncover the plot against them before the violence in Owl Creek tears them apart?
CAREN HAHN is an award-winning fantasy and suspense author best known for the Owl Creek, small town suspense series, and Hatched, a dragon adventure series. She discovered at a young age that the only thing more thrilling than reading fictional adventures was writing them herself, though it took the disruption from a global pandemic before she was driven to share her stories with the world.
Caren has a passion for writing intense stories without explicit content so they can be enjoyed by a wide audience. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest.
Talk about a book you dont want to put down!!I devoured this awesome 2nd book in the Owl Creek series in 2 days. This novel is just as good if not better than the first, but I honestly loved them both and I'm so happy I can jump straight into book 3, Lost in Owl Creek This book is packed full of drama and events, the reader is left wondering what else could possibly happen, the author certainly keeps you intrigued and on the edge of your seat. I love the characters, the town, the plot is excellent. I feel like I'm in the story when I'm reading this book This novel actually had me in tears at one point, that's how connected the author has the reader wirh the characters This novel continues where Smoke Over Owl Creek (book 1)leaves off and we are reacquainted with Val and Joel, both dealing with the events going on in their lives. Caren Hahn was a new author to me when I read the first book in this series, but now all her book are on my TBR. She is very gifted and writes an amazing story
I have really grown to love Val, the strong female lead in this trilogy. She defines what it is to be a mom with her priorities straight. This says a lot considering what she has been through! And Joel creates such a perfect balance to Val and her daughter. With such strong characters placed in such a beautifully portrayed, small town setting, you really can’t go wrong with Owl Creek!
The second in the Owl Creek series, I have to say, is another incredibly suspenseful thriller. Never knew which way this gripping story was going to end up until near the end. Another truly excellent book by Caren Hahn that drew me in and had me hooked from the start. Absolutely love the books by Caren. Recommend and definitely 5+ stars.
The world in the small town of Owl Creek just got bigger, and you won't want to miss out on the adventure. This is book two in the Owl Creek series, and it is brilliant in bringing in plots from book one (Smoke over Owl Creek) while being its own story. If you've ever lived in a small town you will feel so connected to the town and the politics. If you've ever seen how fast social media can change the tides of people's lives and opinions, you'll sink into these pages, and forget that you aren't there yourself. If you want a clean romantic thriller to make you feel all the feels, read this book, and thank me (or you know, the author, who actually deserves the credit) later.
Nonstop suspense with shocking twists I never saw coming! FIVE BRILLIANT STARS!
WOW! The second book in this exciting new series is even better than the first--and that's saying something! This story grabs the characters and plot threads from Book 1 and takes off running at top speed through a twisty labyrinth of imminent dangers that kept me glued to my Kindle from the first page to the last. I read and review dozens of books every year, but seldom do I find one that meets all of my criteria for a perfect reading experience. Seriously, folks. It's that good!
No plot summary from me this time, because nothing should spoil this thrilling adventure. You can read the blurb for some enticing hints. The story is chock-full of mysterious threats, impending retribution, acts of violence and senseless murders. Red herrings abound to keep the reader guessing until the final shocking revelation.
I felt sorry for our hero--Detective Joel Ramirez--who is vilified and attacked by the same people who hailed him as a hero in Book 1. And there's poor Valerie, who only wants to love Joel and raise her daughter in safety and peace. Will she never be free of her husband, the infamous white-collar criminal Jordan Fisher? (I hope we find out in Book 3. I'm craving a Happily Ever After ending for Valerie and Joel.)
Unlike many so-called thrillers, this story is not far-fetched at all. The settings, characters and plot are quite realistic, especially for someone who spent years in a small town in Southern Oregon as I did. The author's extensive research into important aspects of the plot contribute to its authenticity. Kudos also for immersive scenery, likable characters (except the villains!), flawless proofreading, no profanity, no steamy sex scenes, and that gorgeous cover! This compelling story easily earns five stars and MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!
This book is set in the part southern Oregon where I grew up, and Hahn writes it so perfectly. The descriptions of the physical landscape, the towns, the people....I slipped into the book entirely because it felt like being home. Add to that perfect dialogue, and incredibly believable characters, and Hahn knocked it out of the park. I don't usually care for mysteries, but I couldn't put this one down.
Oh my goodness, from start to finish I could hardly put it down! If you thought the first book was suspenseful, just wait.
This is the second time a book has made me almost have a heart attack when my husband quietly walks past the doorway while I'm brushing my teeth before bed. The other book that had that effect on me? The first Owl Creek. These books seriously draw you in! (And maybe raise your blood pressure.)
What an exceptional story. This is the kind of book that really makes you connect with the characters. Sometimes you want them to succeed, sometimes you want to reach into the story and slap them senseless, but you're always engaged, which is amazing.
Was a good story, but for me too many unnecessary details. I’m not a huge fan of describing the weather or how someone bit their lip. Good book and still read it in 2 days, just found myself skimming a lot
Another on the edge of your seat story! You think you have it figured out, and something else pulls you in another direction! This book was so hard to put down! I can’t wait for the next one!
Likable characters. Great world-building. Enjoyable small-town life descriptions. I felt like I was in the middle of everything as I read this book. The whodunit, what's happening, and heart-pounding situations came to life, and I couldn't put it down.
Again another great page turner. You don't know what's next or who done it in this twist of emotions and action. To follow the story you need to read book 1 now im on to book 3 hope its not the last. Happy reading
What a whirlwind. So much drama. Guns being drawn, money woes, construction site drama and political things happening downtown. This book was good. I really enjoyed it.
Talk about being on the edge of your seat! I could not put this book down. I just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen to these characters that I have grown to love so dearly. So much suspense and just enough foreshadowing to keep you guessing then changing your guess again, haha!
✔️Small town vibes ✔️Summertime vibes ✔️Mental health visibility ✔️Thrillers
Val and Joel are thrown into the spotlight when tensions rise over a labour dispute at the local mill. The investigation into Val’s husband’s crimes are also bringing attention to the couple that they both wish to avoid.
Mounting frustrations, fueled by rumours and protests over police actions, send the whole town into a fervor. No one is safe, and neither Val nor Joel know whom to trust.
The relationship drama is so relatable. Caren Hahn has a way of writing that makes me forget I’m reading about fictional people. I feel like I know Val, and when I’m reading it feels like she’s telling me about her experiences over a cup of tea.
