Vet Shop Boys #5

Got Me Going

Rate this book
Can a veterinarian lose his V-card before turning twenty-five? Oh, one hun p he can!

On the surface, I'm super sassy and just a little bit extra. But underneath, I'm hiding a painful secret from my past and one hugely embarrassing problem in my present—I'm still a…I'm still a…Dammit, I can't even get it out.

Let's just say it starts with V and ends in irgin.

Daly's the new barista, and he takes Thirsty Thursdays to a whole new level. He's drop-dead gorgeous with a sexy shaved head, ocean-blue eyes, and an insane smile that lights me up whenever he aims it my way. He's also kind, friendly, and interesting. In other words, the perfect guy to be my first time.

A night of too much coconut tequila leads to us making a drunken pact. Daly will help me with my V-status issue, but he adds a caveat. We have to get to know each other first. Then, and only then, can the physical stuff happen.

It sounds simple enough. But the more I get to know him, the more I realize what we have is more than just a physical attraction. We share a connection. We like the same things. And stupidly, I've gone ahead and caught feelings for the guy.

This was never meant to be anything more than just a physical thing, so why has Daly got me going out of my mind the way he does?

Tyler and Daly dance around each other, both too shy and embarrassed to ask the other out. For months Daly’s highlight of the week is "Thirsty Thursdays" when Tyler comes by his grandmother's bakery and orders drinks and pastries for all his colleagues at the Vet Shop. Daly knows there’s more than the sassy attitude Tyler presents; he's seen him without it and that version was just as adorable as his smart-mouthed one. Daly's grandmother goes off to Europe and leaves him in charge of the bakery and this is when he finds that the business isn’t doing well and hasn't made a profit for some time now. In spite of his working seven days a week, ten hours per day, and he’s out of ideas on how to make better revenue. He’s only twenty-five and the only fun in his life is Tyler. Tyler is the sassiest, sweetest, and the youngest of all the veterinarians from the Vet Boys Shop, only he thinks he’s pathetic and wants something to do about it before he turns twenty-five in a few months. Daly offers to help him out, with the condition that they get to know one another first.... without strings attached. Daly has no time for a real relationship with a failing bakery on his hands. The lightheartedness of the two characters was a good counterbalance to the heartbreaking baggage they both of them carry. There are so many hilarious moments, but also many warm, compassionate and caring moments. The ideas that emerge to turn this failing business into something successful and thriving and meeting the other guys from the other books again, made the story complete. It all came together perfectly in spite of a real scare that made the reader hold their breath. A wonderfully balanced story, with humor, hurt, comfort, seriousness, fun, business, and lots of pleasure.

This was one hun p the cutest thing ever. It was also the longest damn foreplay I have read in awhile. I'm talking we don't get past the edging until 90% in. Most of the book is spent in perpetual UST, but in between that are some really sweet moments. I loved getting to know Tyler better. Underneath all his sarcasm he has such a kind and soft heart. I wanted to wrap him in a blanket burrito and snuggle him to death while surrounded by adorable dogs cuddling on all sides. He was that precious.

Daly is no slouch in the good human department either. He was a brave, sweet man and I absolutely enjoyed every moment of his character growth in the story. A lot of said growth can be attributed to none other than our beloved Tyler. Don't get me wrong, Daly did the work himself, but it helps when you have someone who truly cares about you to lean on. Someone to tell your worries to who can help carry or even relieve that burden. Tyler was all that and more.

Of course there were plenty of laughs and cameos from our favorite past MCs. It wouldn't be a Vet Shop Boys book without some antics going on with this crew. I don't think I will ever look at a hole puncher without laughing again. I totally love this world Casey Cox has created and I am hoping their hints about a certain baker mean he is getting a book of his own. Could he be one of the MCs in Got Me Merry? Book 6 is slated for a December release, so I guess we'll find out sometime before then!

I am loving this series and Got Me Going is one hun p a great addition to it. Tyler and Daly have been hinted at before because of Thirsty Thursday and Tyler's complete inability to talk to his crush but that changes here and instead leads to a hilarious first exchange between the two.
This story is a slow burner as Daly promises to help Tyler lose his V card before his birthday, after they get to know each other as friends. There's a great chemistry between the two but I think the friendship is actually something they were both in need of, that person to lean on and share all of their troubles with. They share a poor history with parents, and then have experiences that have affected their daily lives but through the care and support of each other, they're able to grow in self confidence and become more open to the positives in life. Tyler proves to be instrumental in helping Daly with his business while Daly's promise to help Tyler with his V card gives them both more than they could have ever hoped for. It's an emotional ride with several highs and lows, independently and together but they come out stronger and happier on the other side.
We still get plenty of interaction with the other Vet Shop Boys, who continue to be a great group of friends, supporting Tyler through tough moments but also more than happy to share in his embarrassment with one of my favourite prank scenes. Jeremy, the baker at Daly's cafe is a sweetheart who I'm hoping we hear more from, and Daly's grandma is such a lovely woman, someone who we all should have in our lives.
I'm so happy to have another book in this series and am looking forward to what comes next.

I don't think the author has ever met a member of GenZ. Tyler was written how a Boomer assumes GenZ is. I'm an Elder Millennial and even though I'm 36, I'm actually around a lot of GenZ and Gen Alpha people. The slang used was cringey and annoying. Literally no one says "one hun p" (and this phrase is repeated way more than needed) for one hundred percent.

By the way, I fully understand the generation naming is high key annoying. This entire series throws generations in along with ages.

I also understand that this is a petty thing to be annoyed with. I'm just over middle aged authors writing younger characters without learning about how younger people actually are.

This was a truly sweet story which I enjoyed a great deal.
It's the slowest of slow-burns (something I usually don't have the patience for but was perfect for Tyler and Daly) that really allowed the guys' feelings to develop in a way that felt entirely organic.

So the premise of the story is juicy. Tyler and Daly, who's been eyeing each other for quite some time, have a little too much to drink one night and Tyler reveals that he's still a virgin at 24. Daly offers to help him out with that situation but wants them to get to know each other first. So that kicks off the guys' slow, awkward, and sweet efforts to do just that.

It's cute but frustrating.
They're both pretty much smitten with the other, but none of them will admit how they feel. Meanwhile they're both struggling with ... life. For Tyler it's both past trauma (the real reason for him still being a virgin) as well as the realization that he's not happy with his chosen career. For Daly it's medical issues and the fact that he struggles to keep his business afloat. So there's a whole lot going on here. Which is a good thing since the romance takes some time.

There's a lot to like about this book. It's sweet but keeps things real. The guys' interactions are adorable. They're both struggling with their own issues, but on top of that they're also shy. It's a dual POV read, and both Tyler's and Daly's inner monologues are a delight to read. Also, Tyler tends to blurt out the most hilarious stuff. And despite the story addressing some heavy topics, it's still mostly a low-angst story.

I haven't read any of the previous Vet Shop Boys books, but Got Me Going works perfectly fine as a stand-alone. Sure, it was obvious that I was supposed to know more than I did about the other supporting characters, but the fact that I didn't, didn't detract from the story or lower my enjoyment one bit.

The one thing I had a tough time with was Daly's extreme insecurity about his missing ball. Now, I'm not a man so it's difficult for me to imagine the impact of losing that particular part of the body. But really, balls aren't that big. How much of a difference would it actually be? I can't imagine it being so immediately obvious that he'd be afraid to be intimate with someone. I just thought that bit felt a bit over-done.

But anyways. 4 strong stars.

I loved Daly and Tyler’s story - it really had a bit of everything to it: sweetness and humour mixed with heavier subjects and past traumas/experiences.

This was just such a sweet read and I couldn’t help but adore it! There were a lot of swoon worthy moments and the characters were so sweet and kind towards each other. I really liked how they moved slowly and got to know each other before anything sexual happened, it was perfect for them and it worked really well here. There were plenty of chemistry between them as well and 90% of this book was pretty much foreplay, but I didn’t mind it one bit.

However, I didn't fully agree with how they made it into this whole thing about the perfect first time, I didn't really need all of that but I can understand why the author went with it. I just felt like a more low key scene would have been just as perfect between them.

Even with the heavier subjects, the story stayed on the lighter side and never got too dark. It was really great to see Daly and Tyler open up to each other and share things from their past. They were both so good at listening and being there for each other, and there were a bit of hurt / comfort from both sides here.

Got Me Going works great as a standalone, but I'm really curious about the other vets and how they found their partners now… and while this was the first book I read by Casey Cox, it won't be the last!

I really love the Vet Shop boys and couldn’t wait for Tyler’s book. Tyler met Daly when he was going with Gus to the bakery for their Thirsty Thursday coffees. Tyler was so shy in front of Daly he could barely say hello. Daly is in the same boat and it was cute to watch. They finally started to talk and their relationship started slowly as they got to know each other. Sweet read and the sassiness from Tyler was hilarious, especially when his filter was off. I recommend this series and know others will enjoy too. I’m hoping Jeremy’s book is next.

I received a copy of this book for my review.

What an absolutely adorable, cuddly romance! Tyler and Daly could not be more lovable if they tried! Actually, watching them try to communicate with other in the beginning is awkward and hilarious! They both have secret crushes on each other! Their actual relationship once they finally communicate takes a natural course. It is a slow burn get to know you kind of romance. I read an arc and I will not give any more away. Just know that you will get lots of cameos from past couples, a house full of cats, a virgin and a whole lot of love and affection! Very positive and feel-good story!

TYLER IS ANNOYING

I get "living out loud" but good Lord. He is sooo annoying. I couldn't take it. I believe Daly could have done better. I wanted to see Tyler as sweet but please calm down.

I have read all the books in this series and I think this one is one of my favorites. I loved that we finally got to Tyler's story. Throughout the series you just see him as a fun going guy, but this finally shows his real self and the struggles he's been through.

3.5 stars. So happy to get into Tyler’s head and experience the sassiness first hand. He is hilarious, but he is an onion. He has layers. His past wasn’t great in a few different ways and he just wants to be who is! However, he wants to be what he thinks society needs him to be as well. A 25 year old virgin? No fricken way. Thank goodness he came across Daly. They were made for each other and exactly what the other needed. They lifted each other up, respected one another and eventually healed and fell in love with each other. Plus their banter was fantastic, per Casey’s usual. This is a strong series but I found this one…lacking, even redundant. I felt like I was reading in circles. I must admit, I was sorely disappointed in Tyler quitting being a vet. And I don’t mind slow burn, but good gracious. It took so long that once it happened I skipped over it. I was ready for the story to end and I don’t like when that happens. I still love this series and am so happy it isn’t over!

DNF @ 60%

So…. this is one of the only books I ever DNF’d and I feel like crap about it. I just couldn’t do it. I felt no connection to the characters or to the story. I tried so hard and made it 60% before I really couldn’t do it anymore. This is nothing against the author or the series. The writing wasn’t bad and the premise was okay. I just could not get into the book or what was happening. The characters were just so bland to me and it was so hard to get through. I feel so terrible because I really did try, but this book wasn’t for me. Maybe next time.

This is going to be a very lengthy review with some spoilers so please be warned before reading. This is mostly for me to remember my feelings on the book.

I was continuing my read through of the series since I decided to pick it back up with book three. Since reading about Chase I decided to go on and read about Tyler since I was still curious about his story/background. We only seen glimpses of him in previous books and can definitely tell he’s struggling through something. He’s a very complex person. Unfortunately this book was a major miss for me.

I’m going to break this review down between all the things that I didn’t like and the few things that I did.

* First off it’s so unfortunate that the author didn’t have a page in the very beginning of this book about possible trigger warnings for some people. So let me just warn you. TW : talks about a past SA for a character and was spoken about. Talks about cancer for a character as well. This wasn’t an issue for me personally but would have been nice to know before going in.
* With how the book started out and the way Daly was thinking about Tyler I totally thought we would see them actually dating. But nope that’s not how it went. Even though Daly wanted to ask Tyler out on a date he doesn’t but it turns into this friends with benefits thing cause neither of them thinks they are in a spot in their lives to be in a relationship. Really disappointed me since that’s not the direction I thought we were going to go in.
* Which follows me into my next point. Which is since reading the last three books back to back I realize that all three books have pretty similar themes with the whole friends with benefit thing. Gus and Tate started out being friends that turn into being fake boyfriends then into more. This was too bad, actually my favorite story in the series by far. Then Chase and Fischer were friends and then Chase wanted to do this whole “fischasing” thing with him which mainly meant friends with benefits. And finally with Tyler and Daly and them going into a deal to help Tyler lose his virginity but no feelings or anything involved but wanting to spend time together and get to know each other screams friends with benefits. Makes you realize the similar plots and how boring everything is. I love low angst but come on.
* Of course not too far into the book after they both decide to be friends with benefits we get Daly catching real feelings and wanting more with Tyler even though he knows he shouldn’t because of the agreement they both decided on. Which gave me a major eye roll because I’ve been known he wanted more since he literally said from the beginning he wanted to ask him on a date and knew he was different and special right away. I just don’t understand why the author decided to go this route. It just ended up annoying me.
* I really wanted more time with Tyler and Daly getting to spend time together and know each other better. We get only one outing with them spending time but it’s all mostly at the bakery and at home but told to us rather than shown. I just wanted more cute scenes with them out and about doing things together or I don’t know actually date.
* I wish we got more after both Daly and Tyler confess their feelings for each other but never said or confirmed rather to date or be boyfriends or anything just left it like that and continue on like they didn’t say anything and continue the deal between them.
* And time after time after they both have confessed their feelings for each other and falling in love to actually being in love with each other it’s not until the end of the book Daly asks Tyler to be his boyfriend like he couldn’t have ask all the other times they have confessed to being in love with each other.
* Was disappointed when Tyler quite being a vet when the series evolves around that.

Now we can finally get to the few things that I did like about this book.

* I think it was so cute how Tyler and Daly was so shy and nervous around each other when they were seeing each other at the bakery. And seeing them struggle through just saying hi or getting any words out was just so cute and sweet.
* Even though it annoyed me with just how slow this “slow burn” was it really was nice how they start out slow and take their time getting to know each other and opening up. You can tell they both have gone through some stuff and that it was nice for them to take their time with each other and earn each others trust.
* I love Tyler’s friend group at the vet clinic. All such sweet, amazing and supportive friends/guys especially Gus being such a great boss and friend towards Tyler and giving him everything he needs.

So after all that venting this wasn’t actually a bad story. I know I rated this really low and that just how I felt and my enjoyment of the book. Even though I liked certain aspects and parts of the book they just was a lot more that didn’t work for me. Overall it was written well and even though the slow burn was so freaking slow in this the pacing was okay. So please take my review with a grain of salt especially if you have loved all the other books in this series.

At this point I’m really not sure if I want to continue this series or not. I really loved Jermey and would love to see this sweet man find his forever person. If anything his book might be my last. Book six looks to be a Christmas theme book so we will see how I feel towards the holiday and might give that a try but at this time I’m moving on. After reading the last three I’m burned out on this and this book wasn’t up to my expectations.

This 5th book in the Vet Shop Boys series features a friends to lovers, hurt/comfort, virgin story about an almost 25 year old virgin and the guy who promises to help him cash in his V card after they get to know each other first.

Tyler is a vet at the Vet Shop Boys clinic, the youngest and sassiest of the group. He’s got two big secrets. One we know from the start (he’s a virgin) and another we don’t find out until much later in the book. Daly is running his grandmother’s bakery after she has retired and he has secrets too. He’s got a health issue and he’s worried about the success of the bakery. The book traces the relationship journey between them as well as how they address each of their problems. It’s a mature and low angst look at a developing relationship without all kinds of artificial drama.

I’m not a big fan of the continued reference to “the secret” and how it is prolonged as some big drama, especially in this case. But the way it is ultimately handled ties in nicely to the maturity of the relationship. All of the semi-crisis moments are dealt with nicely and there isn’t a bunch of drama for drama’s sake. The ending is sweet and there’s a hint at a book to come.

My one big criticism, and I’ve mentioned it for earlier books, is the timeline. I don’t know the author’s background but I have to guess they are not from the US. Some of it is some of the vocabulary but the main part of that they are clearly not familiar with the US system of higher education. There is just no way someone who is 24 years old can be a practicing veterinarian in the US. A vet has a DVM (a doctorate of veterinary medicine) which is four year doctoral degree which comes after having completed an undergraduate degree. That’s eight years of schooling after high school which brings someone to at minimum 26 years old. Plus Tyler has already been practicing for a year putting him at 27 years old minimum. There are some programs out of the country which go year round and condense the time a little but not by a lot. And in previous books the implication has been that these vets went to school in the US. There are other practicalities that aren’t ever mentioned which I could almost overlook if the age thing didn’t bother me so much. It’s basic research and it would not have altered the story so much, in fact it might have enhanced it, to just make the character a few years older so that this made sense. (It was true of a character in a previous book as well.) I know there are people that will say “it’s fiction” but it is fiction placed in a real world. It takes my head out of the story when there is such obvious lack of research and anything that takes my head out of the story is a biggie for me. Especially when it’s not necessary.

For those who are not as picky as me this probably won’t be a big deal and no doubt they will fully enjoy this book. Aside from this one issue I really enjoyed everything else about the story.

**I voluntarily read an arc and this is my unbiased opinion.**

Oh my gosh, this was such an amazing read!

It was so much fun to see Tyler and Daly dance around each other, too shy and embarrassed to ask the other out. For months Daly’s highlight of the week is Thirsty Thursdays when Tyler will come by in his bakery and order drinks and pastries for all the colleagues from the Vet Shop Boys.

Daly knows there’s more behind the sassy attitude Tyler presents, he saw him without it and that version of him was as adorable as his smart-mouthed one. He’s so attracted to the whole picture.

Yes, they exchanged mobile numbers wheeee! Oh my gosh, they are the sweetest at this stadium!

Daly’s business isn’t doing well, he works seven days a week, ten hours per day, and he’s out of ideas on how to make better revenue. He’s only twenty-five and the only fun in his life is Tyler.

Tyler is the sassiest, sweetest, and the youngest of all the veterinarians from the Vet Boys Shop, only he thinks he’s pathetic and wants something to do about it before he turns twenty-five in a few months… losing his V card.
Daly offers to help him out, with the condition to get to know each other first in these few months. All without strings, he got a bakery to run and there’s no place or time for a romantic relationship.

While this topic ‘slow burn’ is far from what I prefer, the way it’s done here does so much right to this story, because watching them was such a pleasure, besides that, there are substantiated reasons for their careful approach.
The lightheartedness was such a good counterbalance to the heartbreaking baggage they both carry around.
It was all absolutely stunning put together.

First I want to point out, that there are so many hilarious moments, I laughed and snorted and laughed out loud, just delightful!
Second, to point out, there are as many warm, compassionate and caring moments, my eyes dripped, but more my heart swelled, I got thick goosebumps, and the place around my sternum got warm from all the love, it was really everything to experience this with them.
Witnessing the very ups and the downs of the Vet Shop Boys and meeting the others guys more than once, made the story complete, they all fit together perfectly.
A wonderfully balanced story, humor, hurt, comfort, seriousness, fun, business, pleasure, and on top of that, dang, they were hot.
Bow to the author for creating a beautiful heartfelt story, with real-life problems, approached with real-life emotions and gestures, sweet human interactions, wonderful characters, and the sweetest heartwarming romance! Tyler and Daly stole my heart, I’m still searching for it.

Dear readers, we got ourselves a winner!

What a fantastic read I knew I was hooked within the first couple of chapters of this book. I was so emotional. You can’t help but have a soft spot for Daly. Everything he’s been through growing up, just makes your heart sore to see the young man that he’s turned into. Trying so desperately hard to make a success out of the bakery. Because of what happened to him he’s very guarded about getting into a relationship he’s been hurt in the past and it’s nothing that he can change. But that all changes when a sexy funny vet starts coming into the bakery every Thursday with his boss Gus. It seems that Thursday is now called thirsty Thursday and Gus who is the owner of the Vets always brings Tyler with him. And the effect that Tyler has on Daly, well that’s so new to him.
Tyler grew up having to hide who he was. His family couldn’t accept him for who he was. They said they didn’t care that he was gay it was just his feminine overly gay nature that they disliked and if he wished to stay living in their home he would give it up. So Tyler bided his time given his family what they wanted until he could get out of there. Tyler always knew he wanted to work with animals and be a vet and getting a job with Vets Shop Boys has been a dream come true. It’s like he found the family he was always wanting. And then he went to the local bakery and for some reason this sassy outspoken joker became tongue tied. Tyler was hiding a big secret, Chase was the only one who knew at the vets you see Tyler at the age of 24 was still a virgin and now after meeting Daly, Tyler knew he’d found the man that he wanted to get to know. Okay that is all you’re getting from me honestly this book is beautiful.
I am going to be very honest and say I don’t like overly slow burner books. And this book is a slow Burn. But the story was so utterly beautiful that there was no way in this world I couldn’t finish. Daly and Tyler are just wonderful human beings and perfect for one another. I think if the book was written any other way it wouldn’t be as good it needed to be slow it was so great to catch up with the previous guys from the other books you really get a sense of family when you read books in the series. You will laugh out loud you were groan and your heart will soar. This is just an absolutely brilliant read. And I am super excited for the next book in the series.
I’ve voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book And this is me leaving my honest review.

This book was just so sugary sweet. I really enjoyed the story as a whole, loved the characters and the dynamic. The beginning has a sad but hopeful feel with Daly being a cancer survivor and this set the stage for the type of character Daly, strong, capable, humble, grateful, and so caring. And then comes along the sassy, colorful, energetic, unique, and preciously happy Tyler. They meshed and they had such a trusting bond when they finally got over their nerves and say more than a few fumbling sentences to each other.

I had a really fun time ready this story and I really loved the world in which Casey Cox built with the awesome supporting characters. I did not read any of the previous books and still somehow didn't feel lost which was impressive. Yes I would love to know the backstory of our existing couples and I for sure will be reading them at some but for this book it was not necessary and that is not always within an interconnected series, so I appreciated this. The storyline was lighthearted with a tiny bit of inner struggles from both our MC's. But for the most part this was one of the lightest reads I have picked up in a while. AND man was this a slower than slow burn. Slow burn is good and I can appreciate that our boys wanted to get to know each other before anything too serious went down and it was nice to see their relationship grow and their love come through. But I do need more steam and intimacy in my romances so this was defiantly a miss for me. But there was plenty cute in this story which made me smile a lot. The best supporting character was Daly's grandmother and their relationship was so heartwarming and made a big impact in this book. And there were some laugh out loud moments and possibly the best line ever:
"I'm here to get my hole punched." I laughed for about ten minutes after this!

I would say this was a great addition to the Vet Boys world but I have not ready any others yet. So i will simply say that I enjoyed, the writing is really good, I enjoyed the characters the most, and I just wish there was more intimacy. If you like slow burn. low angst, and low heat then this would definitely be the books for you. I look forward to reading more of Cox in the future.

This was okay. I liked both Tyler and Daly, and I found their relationship intriguing and cute.

I have two main reasons for not rating this higher:
1. The focus on Tyler's virginity and why:
2. Some extraneous drama:

And finally,

So yeah, if it hadn't been Cox and characters I liked, it would've gotten a lower rating even.

Daly's parents kicked him out when he came out and he was taken in by his grandmother. His grandmother runs a bakery and coffee shop. When he was a young man, Daly discovered that he had testicular cancer and had to undergo treatment. He survived but had to have one testicle removed. Daly has been uncomfortable in relationships ever since. Now his grandmother has retired and left Daly the bakery. Daly is struggling with making a success of the bakery. The only bright part of his week is Thursday when the Vet shop boys' owner comes in to buy coffee for his workers. Along to assist is Tyler, who Daly has a big crush on. The problem is Daly is too afraid to ask him out until the day Tyler makes a fool of himself in front of him and lets his interest shows. Maybe this will be the start of a beautiful relationship.

Tyler came from a family who pressured him to be less stereotypically gay unless he wanted to be kicked out. Having to suppress himself for several years, has him being loud and proud now. Everyone thinks of him as a joker and sexually uninhibited but inside he is quiet and a virgin. A bad experience in school has made him unable to trust anyone since. Now however Tyler has three problems. First he is thinking about quitting his job as a vet since the death of his patients just brings him grief and guilt. Two his 25th birthday is coming up and he doesn't want to be a 25 year old virgin. Lastly, he has a big crush on the barista Daly and is tongue-tied in front of him. Then one Thirst Thursday, Tyler loses control of his tongue and keeps making embarrassing comments to Daly. Humiliated, Tyler runs out but he is stopped by Daly. Daly shows his interest and makes Tyler feel comfortable enough to agree to go out with him. Before their date Tyler loses another pet and is devastated so Daly takes him out for a drink. Drunk Tyler tells Daly about his goal to not be a virgin by his 25th birthday. Daly offers to help him if at first the two get better acquainted.

Casey CoxGot Me GOING is the 5th book in the Vet Shop Boys Series. It focuses on Tyler, a veterinarian, and Daly, a bakery owner. Tyler loves being a Vet, but is struggling with the downside of working with animals – injuries, illness and mortality. Daly recently took over the bakery from his grandmother so she could retire and travel, but it’s struggling and he’s afraid of losing what she worked so hard to build. The highlight of both their work week is when Tyler goes into the bakery and they get to awkwardly flirt with one another. Tyler, because he’s also another word starting with a V – virgin, and Daly, because he really likes Tyler but having had testicular cancer take one of his testicles has made him self-conscious in the bedroom.

What happens when the Vet wants the Baker to take his V-card before his 25th birthday and the Baker wants to establish a genuine friendship before taking it? A sweet, slow-burn, high heat (once the oven heats up) story with lots (and lots) of cats, a snobby bakery customer who causes a big idea, a reoccurrence scare and a one hun p HEA! Tyler and Daly invite you to sign and amend their contract with them over the 3 months and 1 week it takes for them to discover what a soulmate is and how sweet it is to have found them.

I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and, as always, my review is unpaid and honest.

If you're looking for a slow burn book that ignites into a fiery inferno in the last maybe 10%, then this is the book for you. (If you don't like books where the mains do very little physically until near the end, maybe not the best one for you though.) Because this book redefined the slow burn, focusing on the connection between Daly and Tyler, focusing on the hurt/comfort aspect, far more than the physical.

This is the fifth in the Vet Shop Boys series, and while it can be read as a standalone, I very much recommend reading the other four before you dive in because it really shows the strength of the relationships between all the Vet Shop Boys, people that Tyler are incredibly close to.

I think my favorite part of this story was the fact that we spent so much time watching Tyler and Daly transform from two boys who had a bit of a crush into something deeper. I loved getting to know them as they got to know one another - and they definitely got to know one another. The love they shared was palpable and it was incredible to watch it grow. It was also incredible to watch the way the love helped them love themselves more and accept the parts of themselves they originally believed to be flaws or broken.

This is a beautiful slow burn story of self-acceptance and self-love. Its a story about finding love when you believe yourself to not exactly be the most lovable. Its a story about figuring out how to be your true self. Its a beautiful story and I absolutely loved it. I cannot wait for the next one in this series, because the Vet Shop Boys just keep getting better and better.

DISCLAIMER: I recieved an advance copy of this book and this is my fair and honest review.

This was another amazing book in the Vet Shop Boys series. I wasn’t a huge fan of Tyler in the previous books so I wasn’t really sure how I’d like this book. Well I ended up loving it!

The emotion and serious topics that were in this book were next level and had me in tears. It started right away in the prologue touching on a hugely series topic with Daly and really set the tone for the book. I knew it was going to be a heavy story. However, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t humour in this book as well. There was one chapter I was listening to on audio in my car and I was laughing so hard anyone watching me would have been wondering what was going on.

If you’re looking for a steamy romance. This is not it. Tyler and Daly decide to take their time and develop their relationship before getting involved intimately. I really enjoyed getting to see them take it slow. We got an excellent glimpse into their true characters and the hardships that both of them have gone through. And when they finally did get together it was amazing!!

There is one quote in the book that really resonated with me:
"That's the good thing about love…There's a best person out there for all of us."
This is so true as evidenced by the love stories of the very different men in the Vet Shop Boys series!

If you are just starting out in the wonderful world of MM romance I feel like this would be a good starter book. You do not need to read the rest of the books in the series to understand what is happening in this one.

Funny and sweet and totally endearing

That actually describes both the book and Tyler and Daly perfectly. This was a lovely read and Tyler and Daly were funny, sweet and endearing.
I've only read the previous one in the series but the cameos from all the other books were nice bonuses, and only made me love this more. You can see the friendship and love between all the vets, and also between each vet and their partner.
Tyler's secrets made him the person he is today, larger than life, the joker, the centre of attention if he has anything to do with it, but that hides an insecure and uncertain young man behind the facade. Losing his ability to speak every time he's near Daly, Tyler made me laugh while wanting to hug him.
Daly's sadness drew me in and I wanted to tell him he wasn't damaged. He is a relationship man at heart but can't see that in his future. Tyler renders him mute too, until one day when Tyler opens his mouth and what came out made me collapse in fits. Ice broken finally, they manage to exchange a few words and so begins their story.
Watching them becoming friends, learning the other's secrets, falling in love without realising it, Tyler and Daly are so beautiful together. They just fit together seamlessly from the start, and I loved them.
The epilogue was perfect too, and know I want to know who the lucky man is that is worthy of the love of shy, kind, unassuming Jeremy.

I've been waiting for Tyler's book and Got Me Going did not disappoint! This book was a sweet funny, slow-burn story that I could not put down from start to finish.

Tyler, who is the newest and youngest vet at the Vet Shop Boys clinic has been crushing on Daly, the owner of the bakery that the guys get coffee at every "Thirsty Thursday". Daly has also been crushing on Tyler and once they finally start talking to each other, the chemistry is there.

I actually loved that this was a slow burn book and not as steamy as Casey's other books in the series. It worked for both Tyler and Daly and I appreciated all of their communication before starting a physical relationship. Both of them had issues to work thru and secrets to share before they fully committed to their relationship.

You don't need to read the previous books in the series, but reading them first makes this book more fun. Gus was there to support Tyler in his professional decisions, Chase was there to give him life advice and Bishop and Fulton (and all their cats!) opened their house to Tyler when his apartment was being repaired, and of course everyone is there for the pranks.

The epilogue was swoony and I am thrilled there are more books in this series. I'm not ready to say goodbye to my favorite vets and am looking forward to seeing who Jeremy ends up with.

I received an advance review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

💓A courtship by any other name: sweet main with a steamy final course😋

4-4.5🌟 stars
Daly and Tyler are the quintessential couple who refuse to label themselves as such when everyone around them recognizes all the looks and signs. Their story was a good one, with great backstories (especially for cancer survivor Daly), lots of closeness and generosity in supporting one another emotionally. Their first backward, tongue-tied attempts to connect are sweet.
They agree to several months of getting to know each other without doing the deed and it just heightens the anticipation for their big night of passion which serves as the book's climax (yes, in all senses of the word😉).

For me, the repeated veiled references to a reason for Tyler's lack of a love life to date did, however, go on a bit too long before he finally shared the secret. It wasn't so much the delay in sharing as the repeated teasers that bothered me.

The other guys from the series serve as solid secondary support characters; their joking and camaraderie provide some standout moments. I particularly like Fulton and his pithy t-shirts. This is another very strong addition to this MM romance series. Casey Cox is a good writer who knows how to provide an interesting mix of angst and good times for his romances.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Holy edging! But bloody hell, this was the cutest, loveliest thing ever.

These two are precious, and their dance to finally speaking and going out it is adorable. Tyler has been drooling over Daly since he first started at the Bakery but he’s barely able to squeak out a hello on his weekly drink run.

On one of Tyler's drink visits, he manages to thoroughly embarrass himself in the most hilarious Tyler way, but thankfully it finally sets them on a path forward. He’s almost 25 but he’s got a secret, he’s a virgin, and he’s determined to finally lose that title before his birthday. Preferably to one sexy bakery owner.

Daly is carrying the weight of the world. The Bakery, his grandmother’s legacy, is struggling, and he’ll do anything to keep it going. He wants nothing more than a forever person at his side along the way but he struggles with insecurity and acceptance by men it seems like that might never be in the cards. However, a certain cute, animal-loving Vet may just be the salve needed.

These two embark on a friendship to a relationship that is all about the slow burn, trust, and perfect acceptance. They provide a safe place to land. The more time they spend together, the more they start to see they are perfect as they are, and together.

The Vet Shop Boys is a wonderful series of really lovely guys, their animals and friendships that know no bounds.
