The bond between brothers can never be broken – but the bond between twins is eternal.
For almost every day of their lives, Ryan and Brian Wright have been inseparable. As identical twins, the brothers have gone through everything together.
Sharing experiences and milestones along the way, and on more than one occasion, using their identical looks to their advantage.
From breezing through exams to accompanying their dream girl to prom, for Ryan and Brian, sharing each other’s lives has become the norm – and little has changed now that they are married men with families of their own.
Even now, the temptation to switch places in order to escape reality is too good for either brother to resist.
But when a case of mistaken identity leads one of them to be shot and kidnapped, it is up to the one left behind to take his place and search for answers.
Now, the pressure is on to find his missing twin – but how long can the imposter keep up the ruse before his family discovers the truth?
Double Play is an intense tale of deception, danger, and the bond of brotherhood. Can one man ever convince the world he is really his twin? Perhaps the question isn’t whether or not he can – but rather, whether or not he should.
I love books about twins, its one of my favorite book tropes. This book unfortunately didn't wow me. Don't get my wrong it was a great little thriller but I felt it could have given us much more. The best part of the book was the twins backstory and childhood. I loved seeing all the antics they got up and how they swapped places. The mystery of one twin going missing was a fabulous set up, however this never really got resolved in a satisfying way.
I felt a bit unsure if this was supposed to be a character focused drama or a thrilling mystery as neither really got there for me. The timelines is a little confusing and rushed, often jumping very large periods of time. I also would have preferred the twins to have less similar names (Brian & Ryan) as I found this made me often confused which was which (particularly when I was reading it with text to speech turned on as both sounded similar when read aloud). I assumed this was intentional for the author to show their similarities and how they didn't really have a separate identify, it just got a little confusing for me.
Overall, I found this to be a quick read and while it may not have been amazing, there was enough to like about this one that I would definitely read more by this author.
First thank you so much for the advance copy of this book! I’m really torn on a star rating so I’m giving it a 4 cuz I’m going to round it up a little. In my opinion it’s definitely more than a 3 star book. I really liked the book and it kept me going but I didn’t have that ‘oh my gosh’ moment while reading it but please don’t let my opinion discourage you from buying it. We follow Ryan and Brian who are twins throughout their life as they switch places. Then one of them goes missing. Great storyline! But I would get confused from time to time but that’s on me. To conclude I found the book a fast read that kept me going and was intriguing. I will definitely read other books by this author.
How would it be if you’d have an identical twin, someone so similar that no one can figure out who’s who? You’d be able to switch places whenever you feel like, give tests in each other’s place, pull pranks on people and all and all live each other’s lives. Sounds fun, right? That’s what Brian and Ryan’s lives were all about.
Since the beginning of time, they used to switch places which started off as fun but became a lifestyle as they grew older, got married, and got families of their own.
Everything was good and fun until one day a business goes wrong, and one of them gets shot and disappears without a trace. Will the other be able to figure out the mess? Will he be able to keep up the ruse and find his brother as well? Read Double Play to find out.
The concept behind this K. Redd's book is absolutely amazing and there was a lot of scope for playing around with the trope and developing it further. The sections where the twins’ childhood is discussed are so fun to read but went on to being rushed by the time they reached the real business.
Overall, it is an easy read for all crime thriller readers and absolutely worth a try.
⭐ Rating: 3.5/5 ✅ Verdict: A mind-bending murder mystery revolving around a set of identical twins.
Can you imagine growing up with an identical twin? You look so much alike that your own Mother cannot tell you apart. As you grow up you decide to have a little fun with this as no one can tell you apart you take each other's test, you may share a date and change out in the middle of it and this little game continues into adulthood. Now you share each other's jobs and families to break up the monotony. You have to keep notes so you two do not blow your cover. But this little game may end up with consequences when one of your business dealings goes bad and now it may have resulted in your twin's disappearance. So, this is the premise of this story. It is a quick read but at times it feels the story line is a little rushed and to many twists just thrown in, where it may have been better if the author had developed the story or situation a little better.
I really enjoyed this book. This combined mystery and suspense. You have two twins, Ryan and Brian. They swap places. And this is something that they do often. On one particular swap day, however, everything is going to change. One twin, Brian, disappears. While posing as his brother, Ryan begins trying to figure out what could have happened. Because who ever took his brother, was truly after him.
The book kind of pauses right as all this happens and we flash back to the twins earlier in their life. I feel like this helped the reader make connections with the characters. We go back and work towards the present.
This is a short easy read. The story line is great. The characters keep you guessing and again I overall truly enjoyed this book. I hope you'll give it a shot. Happy Reading Ya'll <3
This story was an interesting journey. I grew up with a set of identical twins where there was only a slight difference which was hard to tell at times. And they would pull some pranks on people but not too often. So, reading the way these twins were a fun read. The story did jump around a bit and a few times I did get a little confused, but I just could not stop reading it, I had to finish the story to see how it ended. I could not not just read some and just forget about it, so that was a good thing in my experience. I totally will have to check out other stories from this author.
A great adventure about identical twins that get in a lot of trouble until one day something major happens. It fun to read about what happens in their lives and how everything turns out. Lots of twists as you go through the years. I received this book free from Goodreads.
I found this book confusing and annoying. The twin brothers switching their lives affected their wives and children without thinking of the emotional and psychological consequences. The narrator did a good job.
This was a Goodreads Giveaway win. It had the potential to be good but it fell flat. Things were glossed over and never really explained and it just ended abruptly.
Wow! The way the twins switched places is so deceitful. They were clever and smart but their web of lies eventually caught up to them. This was a thrilling book with lots of twists and turns
