Daniel Boyd left El Cotas to seek his fortune. Now the only thing he’s seeking is revenge.
The last time Daniel saw his family was seven years ago, before his father was killed in the war. When his sister sends a letter telling him of their mother’s gruesome murder, he knows it’s time to go home. Zachariah Truett prowls the roads of Texas, waiting for people to rob and kill. His gang has been terrorizing El Cotas for weeks, and they’re just getting started. But if they can hunt the innocent, then Daniel can stalk the guilty.
He goes after them with nothing but his gun and his courage. They’re all he’s ever needed. When he meets Amelia and learns the brutality she’s suffered at Zachariah’s hands, he knows he can’t leave her behind. But Zachariah isn’t afraid, and he isn’t going to stop until Daniel pries the gun from his cold, dead hands. Luckily, he’s happy to happy to oblige. Can Daniel end this game of cat and mouse end before anyone else gets hurt?
A Historical Western Adventure book by James Leonard is a standalone and can be read out of order.
I enjoyed the characters in this story, as they were realistic and had the grit one looks for in a frontier tale. The antagonists were a bit larger than life, seeming to self-propagate during attacks and get away with a lot more terror than we know to be real in Texas. No Ranger or outside law enforcement involvement to reign in so many organized outlaws puts the story out there a bit. I still enjoyed the plot lines and the sand the women possessed. No Apaches make an appearance (despite their adeptness at blending into the landscape). One hero Mexican, who I wish could have stuck around a bit longer. Good read, nonetheless. PKB
5 STARS for this page turning fast paced action packed storyline from the Book 1 in this wonderful series. Great characters that seemed alive. It is definitely a shoot-em-up with all the other western trimmings.
I could not put this book down, this book's words just flowed delightfully.
The author has written a story of one man’s and a small town’s fight against a band of outlaws for control and peace. A story of a great deal of violence and bloodshed.
He has played many roles in his life and now he is called home to avenge his mother. Highly recommended for teenage and adult reader. A lot of killing and western justice.

I loved the story but there are no saguaros in Texas. They are only in Arizona. I’m on the second book and I find the same error. Texas does have cactus however not saguaros.
Good western book! Cowboys, outlaws pretty much all I want in a book. I usually read first person books but this one was well written in third person. I’d reccomend this to my friends
