This was a beautiful read. Focusing on the themes of second chances, regret, amends and transmigration, this is a tale of how you can love too much and how regrets can change you. Both main characters felt very relatable to me, from Yi Hui's tragicness to Jinheng's slow descent into depression. Their journeys are like a mirror image of opposites - while one goes from the regrets of having given too much to someone who could give nothing in return but pain, deceit and humiliation, the other wallows in the desperate realisation he's had happiness in his hands and didn't know how to cherish it, having thus ruined his chances, which he will do his utmost to redeem. Yi Hui's struggles to become a wiser, stronger, more self-assured man in his second lifetime are endearing. The family he finds himself in has issues of their own, of which he is a big part of - in the person of the previous owner of the body Yi Hui now inhabits. Yihui suffered from mental disorders that led him to suicide and was a source of constant worry for both mother and sister, which has taken a toll on the family's dynamics and daily lives. The way in which Yi Hui comes change all this without even knowing has the reader already rooting for him. And his analysis of his previous life is nothing short of painful - one can't NOT be touched by his remembrances of how he was so blind and silly, such a fool who insisted on seeing only the good about the man he loved, always making excuses for the poor behaviour, the meanness, the hurts he was put through. Zhou Jinheng comes off - through Yi Hui's eyes - as someone despicable and worthless, a man who has no heart, no soul, no empathy whatsoever. The saddest moment for me in Yi Hui's dissection of his former 'husband's' behaviour is when he concludes Jinheng does have a heart, is capable of loving deeply and utterly, of holding someone in their thoughts and dreams and wishes, but not Yi Hui. It is utterly sad to witness him come to terms that the man he loved so much loved someone that exact same way, and that someone would never be Yi Hui. But Jinheng's journey of self-knowledge and discovery is even more heartbreaking, for me. His slow descent into a state of depression and utter madness brought about by the loss of Yi Hui - and his subsequent realisation that he has always cared for him and even ended up falling in love with Yi Hui, something he had a terribly hard time coming to terms with - was so relatable. If you've never lost your head over the loss of love, you'll probably have a hard time relating to this tale, and this character. He goes from being the 'tormentor' into becoming the tormented, and all he suffers is mostly brought about by his own regret, his guilt, his shame, and his desperate wish he could have a second chance to do it all differently. He does grow up both mentally and emotionally, and he does become a better man, because he wants to, but the journey he takes to get there is full of wrong choices, terrible decisions, mistakes and blunders - which is what, for me, makes Jinheng such a realistic character. At such young age, which of us is mature enough to never err or fail? We go through life doing just that: learning how to navigate what comes our way, learning how to be a better person, growing, changing, making mistakes, saying and doing stuff we'll later regret, balancing wants and needs, falling down, getting up again. There are moments of mirrored beauty in this tale that stem from pain and utter despair, and it is not a sweet read, this novel. But neither is it heart crushing and soul reaping - it is a tale of making amendments and being allowed a second chance. In the end, this is a tale of hope, and for that, I loved it well.
What is regret?... This book is probably one of the sweetest examples that could dissect the word to give it a wonderful meaning. As a book filled with loss, regret, guilt, redemption, and despair, I found it an equally lovable read, though quite emotionally taxing.
As much as I initially despised the Male Lead, one cannot bear to read a heart in torment for too long, and I gave in, changing my morals and making this character an exception. I think the redemption arc (which is basically most of the book) was enough to have the Male Lead atone for everything he's put the Protagonist through, but again, there is no right amount of redemption to balance what's already happened, and this book leaves it at that.
The plot had its minor but necessary, sweet moments and served its purpose in collecting tears, and I recommend this book just for the feeling it will put the reader through.
This is another reincarnation novel. Yi Hui died and woke up in the body of Jiang Yihui. He died in a very pathetic way and wanted to just start a new life and forget the past. But weirdly people from his past were able to recognize him immediately. This one felt unrealistic for me. Like how?🙄
Our ML Zhou Jinheng treated Yi Hui like dirt on the past and somehow indirectly the reason for Yi Hui's death. When Yi Hui died, he realized how much of a b*stard he is. He was guilty and actually realized how important Yi Hui is for him. This one I also feel like it's forced. After all these years? You just realized it?😑
The whole story has a somber tone to it. Their relationship is toxic and to my opinion they are better off separately. The ML tried his best to get our MC back. I felt pity on him at some parts but his last resort still shows how little he thinks of our MC's opinion.
The 'dangerous twist' that was added felt forced again. Like it happened so that everything will turn out okay. The sudden appearance of a 'villain' was really sudden.😅
It was a so-so read. The translation was good though.👍
On one hand, I really liked the character development Yi Hui (MC) went through - how he was able to stand up for himself and understand that Zhou Jinheng (ML) was a scumbag who didn't appreciate him. On the other hand, I thought that ZJH was remorseful for his actions. He truly groveled and did his best to treat YH better after being given a second chance - he did everything he could to make it up to him which I respected. Even so, I was reluctant to see YH get back with ZJH but that's just my personal opinion.
YH's character growth was immense and it was my favourite thing about the novel. He managed to cultivate better relationships with his new family members and it was a relief to see that he had managed to connect with his family from his past life too. I liked how they were all protective of him and were initially against ZJH pursuing him, always choosing to take his side. It was heartwarming to see many people care about him and to see him realise this too, instead of solely clinging to his lost romantic relationship. In his new life, he had more balanced relationships which was a good development.
In contrast, ZJH was the one who kind of lost his other relationships in order to win back YH, but it was very clear that he chose to cut them off and thus was happier in the end. But other than ZJH feeling guilty and completely transforming into a person devoted to YH, his secondary relationships were lacking which was kind of disappointing to see.
The ending seemed a bit rushed and honestly I couldn't feel a strong chemistry between YH and ZJH, I just thought that they were incredibly entangled, from YH's past live to his current one. Regarding the development of their tumultous and complicated relationship, I was left feeling a little apathetic at the end because I knew that they were going to end up together but I didn't care about it anymore.
It was a pretty typical execution of this trope. If you like wife chasing crematorium then this is solidly that. There wasn't anything that I disliked but it also didn't really stand out but it scratches that itch.
Summary: Yi Hui was foolishly in love with Zhou Jinheng. Zhou Jinheng only agreed to the marriage contract because his father forced him into it due to Yi Hui's rich family and in exchange Zhou Jinheng was allowed to pursue his acting career. Zhou Jinheng resented being forced and still carried a torch for his previous lover so he treated Yi Hui like shit while Yi Hui unfailingly continued to love him. The story begins with Yi Hui having died and getting a second chance at life by waking up in the body of young man with a similar appearance who committed suicide. Yi Hui starts to build a new life and Zhou Jiheng first thinks Yi Hui has disappeared to try to get his attention but when he realizes Yi Hui died, he finally regrets everything he's done. They meet again by coincidence and most of the book is Zhou Jiheng chasing after Yi Hui to try to get him back.
The emotional roller coaster I went through is just… so painful and fulfilling. I love MC so much. I love how he stood his point until the deepest sincerity delivered. MC recognized the behaviors as well as actions of ML, and didn’t foolishly fell for him, I saluted him that. Also, This isn’t just ML trying to atone to his sin carelessly. He did what he could, with every tricks he knew. What crazy was around chp51-52. I would like to beat ML so much in the beginning, but with how devoted he was to changing and having MC back, I saluted him. A bit like a spoiler: I thought author gonna made him d-ed like MC in the beginning, but the injury accident wasn’t expected!! 4.6/5⭐️
Literally gave me so much heartache that lingered with me for atleast 2 days!!!
For the first time in my Danmei life, I wished for the ML to stop bothering our beloved MC who is finally living his life for the first time and having his dreams all come true, all without drama and heartache. Then comes the ML who who literally came knocking.
Gods, helped me and my tears, but then this is a wife chasing crematorium Danmei, but kudos to the ML who never hesitated, never stopped no neither gave up. You better do a better job this time or else!
"He asked the little fool to take a cup, picked up the kettle and poured the water into the cup. It wasn’t enough to see the little fool breathe hard as he was scalded through the walls of the cup, but he didn’t stop even when the cup was full, as if bewitched, allowing the freshly boiled water to spill out onto the little fool’s hand that was clutching the cup."
EXCUSE ME??? And I'm supposed to want these two people to get back together??? fuck that DNF@10%
i personally wouldnt forgive zhou jinheng... shouldve suffered more and forever. didnt care for him either. 3 STARS FOR ENTERTAINMENT AND JIANG YIMANG!!!!!!!!!!!!! QUEEN !!!!!!!!!!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It wasn't actually bad but I really don't know how to feel about this story lmaooooo all I really know is that the MC's sister does cross stitch and she's a queen for that
Also I feel like the ML groveled pretty well but I didn't really get the switch from when the MC decided to forgive the ML so that's why I'm sort of conflicted IDK
Disclaimer: This review comes from the viewpoint of a 40+ year old auntie who has experienced so many toxic relationships before deciding to settle down. Happy marriages don't need mind games. :)
Mini-review: Wow. The MC and ML are frighteningly toxic. All the mind games, clingy-ness, and stalker-y behavior just... To be fair, the author did establish that both characters are sick in the head.
Props to the author, though. Her writing style is so pleasant, I was able to finish it till the end without getting angry every 2 minutes like I did with "Advance Bravely".
