From USA Today and Amazon Charts bestselling author Meghan Quinn, comes a fresh take on a royal romance with a twist. Laugh out loud funny and full of some of her steamiest scenes yet, Quinn takes you on an unexpected, sizzling fairytale journey.
So there I was selling bikinis out of my truck in South Beach Miami, getting ready to kick off a wet t-shirt contest when the world’s biggest grouch approached me - Keller Fitzwilliam.
The man had the sultriest British accent I've ever heard. And he looked like he just walked off a Viking boat and into a suit tailored specifically for his impressively muscular frame. Only problem is, he had the warmth of an ice pick and he kept telling me he was here to take me back to his home country.
Of course, I didn't follow him. I might be up for a good time, but I'm also educated enough to know leaving with a stranger isn't smart. Well, that's until he mentioned my mom's name. My mom who passed away several years ago.
So after some serious fact-checking, my bikini-clad bum went with him to a sub-arctic country I had never heard of just north of the British Isles, where I found out my grandpa was the king of said freezing country, and I was the one and only heir.
Desperate to learn more about my mom, I decided to give this princess thing a chance.
Good idea, right? Wrong.
Because Mr. Ice Pick was put to the task of training me and he’s not just cold as ice, he’s pompous, aggravating, and possessive. And did I mention we have to share a bathroom in a tiny castle?
We are oil and water every single day and even though he’s training me to be queen, I have this simmering desire to kneel before him.
When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.
You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.
I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.
good lord this was bizarre. meghan quinn is a good writer, i've enjoyed a few of her romances in the past. but this was tonally all over the place. the heroine's attitude/dialogue gave the word childish new meaning. and yet there were attempts made at heartfelt moments and raunchy sub/dom dynamics?? it was just a LOT going on.
i think if you want something kinda funny and you want lots and lots of sex this could work for you. it was just a little strange for my own personal taste.
Did I like this book? No. Did I love this book? Yes. Am I buying the graphic version and audible as well? Yes. Am I extra? yes. Is Meghan Quinn a genius? Also, yes. Five stars. A book I’ll be re-reading as a comfort read for sure. 🙌🏼❤️
I love Meghan Quinn, but I was honestly pretty disappointed by this book. I love a good royal romance and think the story had so much potential but wasn’t executed as well as it could have been. The connection between Lilly and Keller felt so inauthentic and sudden. Initially, it’s obvious the author was trying to push an enemies-to-lovers storyline, but it turns out to be insta-love. They meet, bicker a bit, and then spend some time ignoring their sexual tension. The sexual tension was the only thing about their relationship I found very convincing. I wish Lilly and Keller’s emotional connection was further developed to help support their supposed love for one another. I just wasn’t buying it 😕 even the conflict in the end seemed exaggerated and used to force a third act breakup.
With all that being said, this book was still funny and steamy. I definitely laughed out loud a few times and enjoyed the banter between Keller and Lilly. Their love for one another just felt too sudden and unexpected. Still a cute story overall
Royal romances are always fun to read so I was excited to get to Meghan Quinn's newest book, Royally Not Ready. When you think of a royal, Lilly Campbell might be the last person to cross your mind. She lives in works in Miami Florida and has that party girl lifestyle. But after finding out she is the last heir to the throne of a small country, she has a lot of choices to make.
Keller works for the royal family but he's more like family than your average employee. It's his task to take Lilly and train her in all the things she needs to know. This is not an easy feat. Keller is a grumpy guy at first, but Lilly softens him up with time.
Royally Not Ready turned into a friends to lovers romance and I enjoyed watching Lilly and Keller both grow and change into their new roles. It was entertaining and fun, emotional at times and all around a nice read.

Royally Not Ready is full of laughs, angst, emotion, epic love, betrayal, forgiveness and lots of spice! From page one I was fully invested and captivated by Lilly and Keller! This is easily one of my favorite books from Meghan Quinn.
When Meghan describes this as The Princess Diaries meets My Fair Lady meets 50 Shade of Grey, she’s not kidding. The journey from spraying down customers for wet T-shirt contests in Miami, to proper princess…..well let’s just say I wasn’t sure how we’d get there but boy do we get there!
“Dear God. Keller isn’t just a grump. He’s a sexy, dirty grump . . . the best kind.”
Lilly is sarcastically hilarious, endearing, excellent at pressing Keller’s buttons but also, once her facade is peeled back, she’s surprisingly deep and emotionally mature. I loved the banter between Lilly and Keller and the ANGST, oh it was next level! You will be sexually frustrated, but once the steam gets rolling between these two, buckle up because it’s HOT!
“Let’s get one thing straight right fucking now,” I say, breathing heavily. “You might be a future queen, but when it comes to the bedroom, I’m your goddamn king. Got it?”
Sweet and sexy Keller is grappling with his place in the palace and in Lilly’s life when he commits the biggest betrayal to Lilly. I was so mad at him but proud of Lilly for being strong and fulfilling her duties. Because of his inaction, King Theo suspends him. It give Keller time to realize everything he’s giving up by being an idiot. The way he wins Lilly back with his poetry notes and showing up to every public event, slowly warmed Lilly to him.
“There is no way to explain, This burning, merciless feeling, Biting through my bones. It eclipses my thoughts, It burrows into my veins, A cataclysmic force so strong, I can’t breathe. I need you. I broke us. It’s broken”
This might be the spiciest Meghan Quinn book I’ve ever read. I loved how he dominated the bedroom and she relinquished control lovingly and easily.
1.5⭐️!! I’m sorry but what’s wrong with the way Meghan Quinn is writing her female characters??? See, Iam all for confident women who are comfortable in their own skin but this was waaay too much! I mean, the girl literally couldnt take no for an answer! I swear, if the roles were reversed, the guy would be called an a-hole.
Story wise too, it was dragged for soo long like 70% of the book and still no change in pace.
This sooo doesnt seem like the same book written by the author who wrote “A not so meet cute”. Her last book “So not meant to be” was a disappointing one too.
This book was the Princess Diaries if Mia was more annoying, Joe was a younger, hot bodyguard/private secretary to the king tasked with training her to be a princess , and they fall in love.
After finding out from a handsome stranger she’s a princess and heir to the throne of Torskethorpe, Lilly travels to the small island nation to learn about her ancestral country and go through princess training, similar to Mia Thermopolis (only Mia didn’t whine so much about it)
She has a fast attraction to the man sent to find her, Keller. Keller is determined to keep his distance from the outrageous American due to the difference in their stations and tries to put space between them despite their forced proximity as he trains her in the art of royalty.
Here’s where it really fell apart for me- I know it’s supposed to be funny. But I had a lot of issue with how often Lilly sexually harassed Keller. She is in a position of power as a member of the royal family, and he is household staff. If the roles were reversed and Keller was the one constantly trying to get Lilly to have sex with him, unwilling to take no for an answer because he just knows Lilly wants to fuck him, then acted like a victim when she said no, I guarantee that would never make it into a book in 2022. Because the heroine is the harasser I guess it’s okay? It was so icky to me. No means no, no matter who is saying it and despite any perceived sexual tension.
Eventually the relationship starts and the sexual harassment ends and of course it gets steamy! Then they immediately fall in love. There is also a lot of the author’s typical humor. I think if you were a fan of the Highland Fling by the author you might enjoy this. The heroines are similarly outspoken and audacious.
It felt like all the typical Megan Quinn elements were present so if you are normally a fan of Meghan Quinn and are looking for an instalove royal romance then you may like it.

Probably one of Meghan Quinn’s spiciest books, and I really enjoyed it.
What I loved: 1. I loved the plot like and conflict. Good grovel for the conflict, and I loved that all the secondary plot lines were tied up. 2. Keller is her most dominant alpha hero, but also wants to take care of her and provide for her. 3. The heroine was a typical MQ heroine - quirky, often brash. Her vulnerability comes with her connection to her mom and family. 4. The steam was amazing, the kink was great, and I really love how it tied into her training. Like I said, one her best steamy books. 5. The writing was your standard MQ book - funny, romantic, and a great cast of characters. 6. Great narration. I really enjoyed the male narrator’s reading.
There isn’t really anything that I don’t love, it just didn’t consume me. It was enjoyable, I wholeheartedly recommend reading it if you loved Princess Diaries 2 and steamy romances. You won’t be disappointed.
Royally Not Ready was an average read. A romantic comedy with friends to lovers trope. Keller was a lovely grumpy hero who takes his job for the King seriously. When it comes to training Lilly to be a future Queen he’s just as serious. Lilly was a feisty woman who liked to push Keller’s patience and buttons. Great chemistry and steamy scenes. The friendship between Lilly and Lara and Timmy was so good.
What didn’t work for me was how the story made me loose interest throughout the story. . Lilly’s training was at times boring and too descriptive. The push and pull between the couple followed the same repetitive pattern and sadly it made them loose tension. The dialogue was cheesy at times and they spent so much time focusing on their insecurities.
Overall an okay story. It started out so strong and fizzled out the last 30%.
Royally Not Read is a standalone rom-com by Meghan Quinn, told from both points of view with a happy ending.
Tropes: ✔️ Enemies-to-Lovers ✔️ Forced Proximity ✔️ Grumpy-sunshine ✔️ Hot + steamy romance ✔️ Royal
Lilly Campbell, owner of South Beach Miami’s one and only swimsuit store on wheels is about to get the shock of her life when Keller Fitzwilliam interrupts her life to inform her that she’s the next in line for the throne of Torskethorpe.
Tilting her life on its axis by having to uproot herself to go to Torskethorpe, learn about the culture and her heritage would be daunting enough, but having to deal with the grumpy man who’s in charge of training her while they share a bathroom might be a bit too much for the bubbly Lilly.
I totally get why this book is described as a The Princess Diaries retelling with a dash of My Fair Lady and a yummy dollop of 50 Shades of Grey, and I enjoyed this combo very much.
The banter and tension between Lilly and Keller is wonderful. Lilly made me laugh while trying to shock Keller, and Keller’s sexy, dirty grumpiness was super hot. She’s endearing and fun, he’s stoic and sweet. Their slow burn romance is both frustrating and delicious.
Megan Quinn’s books are always a delight to read and now I’m super interested in getting the illustrated edition!
It started off strong, but my interest had fizzled by the end. This is something a little different from Quinn, though it still feels like one of her steamy rom coms. I really enjoyed the first 30ish%, with its crackling chemistry and TONS of sexual tension. Our hero is intense and loyal to a fault, so he does his best to resist this overtly sexual and persistent heroine. The opposites attract dynamic worked, and it definitely felt like a spicy play on The Princess Diaries or My Fair Lady. About a third of the way in, I started to get a little uncomfortable with the power dynamics at play, and that ended up being the book's downfall for me. But there's a lot of good stuff going on - especially for fans of humorous royal romances with a hearty dose of k!nky spice.
The story follows Lilly, a woman who is living her best life in Florida. She runs wet t-shirt contests and is a bit of a wild child (both in and out of the bedroom), so it's a shock to discover that she's actually royalty. When a mysterious and super sexy stranger requests that she visit her long-lost family overseas, Lilly isn't sure what to think. But the promise of meeting the family she never knew about is too enticing to resist, and Lilly finds herself traveling abroad with Keller. When their plans go awry and Lilly is forced to spend a ton of alone time with Keller, it's not a hardship. He may be a buttoned-up suit on the outside, but Lilly has seen his tattoos and an entirely different side to his personality peeking beneath that polished exterior. Try as he might, Keller can't seem to resist the infuriating and all-consuming future queen.
It should be mentioned that it looks like we're not done with this couple yet - it does not end on a cliffhanger, but their story isn't finished either. Unfortunately, both characters did enough to turn me off in the back half that I'm not overly enthusiastic about following them post-HFN. Keller is SUPER controlling, and I'm not sure that it was a great idea to have an explosive, temperamental hero (who is also a Dom) be in charge of "training" Lilly on how to be a queen. The level of control grated on me after awhile, and their bedroom activities did not help the situation. I liked that Lilly wasn't weak or timid, but she was overly aggressive in her pursuit of Keller. As other readers have mentioned, if the genders were swapped, none of her actions would be deemed acceptable - she coerced Keller into crossing lines he repeatedly said he didn't want to cross. He was clear, and she didn't listen. For that reason, I had a lot of trouble re-engaging with the story in the back half, despite how much I had enjoyed it at the beginning. There is some truly great sexual tension at the start, and I liked the fish out of water/sudden royal situation. The forced proximity was also stellar. But those issues with both characters diminished my love of the story significantly, and I just couldn't connect with it fully.
Ugh, I usually like Quinn’s book and the idea of this one was so good I wanted to love it. But I COULDNT. Ugh the main character is so cringe I couldn’t even finish the book. For sure a miss on this one for me.
Sooo many 5 star reviews and I just can’t see how for me. The premise was great and I was excited to read this. Here is what I didn’t like…Lilly, whilst being funny in moments, was more often over the top and became annoying. The way she was so sexually aggressive towards Keller even though he kept saying no (but clearly wanting her) was cringey and if she was a guy doing this to a woman it would of come across a whole lot differently. Keller was a good character but his weak reasonings for not being with her was also annoying. I was also bored in parts and the humour the author was trying to come across as hilarious was only sometimes funny for me. The last 20% was a lot better though. In saying all that, I can see why a lot of people liked it, I was just hoping for more.

I don’t even think I can put into words how much I love this book. Seriously, I’ve heard this book described as “The Princess Diaries meets Fifty Shades” and I can attest to this statement and I’ll be honest this is one of the best mixes.
Royally Not Ready is a swoon worthy, royal romance, with so many laugh-out-loud moments. Oh and it has forced proximity (which is one of my favourites).
Lilly is literally one of my all time favourite female main characters ever! She is so confident and comfortable in her own skin, which I love to see in FMCs. And Keller. Oh Keller… A grumpy, alpha MMC, what more could I need!
Meghan Quinn did a fan-freakin-tastic job with Royally Not Ready and you definitely need to add it to your tbr ASAP!!!!
Dnf @ I don't even care. *princess diaries but spicy* It's been sitting too long on my currently reading shelf and I've realised I'm ignoring it. This was nothing new. The FMC was too annoying and pick me girl. The writing felt very hallmark. This book was the definition of "Eh" Maybe it is just me in a slump. Maybe, just maybe I'll pick it back up in the future but it looks like it'll be a while.
This review may contain spoilers, so fair warning, upon reading the review.
First Impressions Royally Not Ready is the most recent standalone from Meghan Quinn. This book has been raved about and even though I have her massive backlist to work through, I couldn’t resist grabbing this one up and I am so happy that I did. This was such a perfect romantic comedy, it had everything I needed in one while also delivering the feels, heart, and deep emotion. What keeps constantly impressing me about her writing is how well-balanced her books are and they aren’t all just light and fluff. If you need a good laugh, this is a solid book to pick up. This is also a “Princess Diaries” retelling of sorts and you mix that in with a grumpy sunshine opposites attract romance, and you know you are in for a delightful time. I was really intrigued by this book and most especially how much STEAM is in this book, I honestly wasn’t expecting our hero to be so dominant, haha but I loved it so much because it’s not heavy so I think even readers are not big into BDSM will find this book highly intriguing in how the smexy times are done.
Summary Keller Fitxwilliam, is the secretary to the King but is also a member of the family in a way. The king and his Queen took the place of his parents and offered him love and acceptance and he would do anything for the Crown. With the King ill, he is charged with finding his long lost granddaughter, who is his only apparent heir to the throne. So Keller heads off to Miami to find Lilly Campbell. Lilly Campbell is a bright and spirited young woman, who embraces the “fun” side of life. Even though she lost her parents at a young age, she doesn’t let that deter her from enjoying life to the fullest, and then broody sexy Keller walks into her life and delivers news that shocks her to the core, she is a royal princess? She can barely believe that its true, but she is curious about Torskethorpe, and wants to find out more about this long lost family she never knew that she had. But when Keller starts training her into being a princess and learning of her heritage and history of her family, she finds something she never expected to find …..home, fulfillment and a intense love!
What I Loved There is so much to love about this story and I honestly had so much fun with this book. It was beyond perfection and I honestly think this is the BEST book this author has written, at least out of the one’s that I have read so far. There was something so delectable about this retelling of Princess Diaries with a dash of My Fair Lady and a sprinkle of dust of Fifty Shades. It actually comes together really well and it had me entertained from beginning to end. I adored both characters so immensely. They are complete opposites though which made for some unique entanglements. Keller is so broody and serious all the time and never has fun, its only responsibility and being a protector. Then we have our heroine who is playful and fun and boy does she like to play with Keller. It delivers in all the laughs in seeing these two work in adapting to each other. But then comes the chemistry and it was so “chef’s kiss”. The type of kink that we are introduced to is control in the bedroom. Which is actually the kink I love the most if there are going to be any BDSM elements. But its light, maybe a slight tying up and some spanking. Its not super heavy in the BDSM. I was intrigued in seeing the way that these two would find their HEA. The only real conflict in the story is the hero, but honestly even after some of the mistakes he made, it didn’t deter me from my enjoyment in the story at all. I absolutely loved some of the side characters we get with Lara and the grandparents. The way that they are so encouraging of Lilly and Keller and way supportive of their romance was the kicker. I adored how they wanted them together. There is so much character growth in this one while also delivering in all the hearts and feels.
What I Struggled With Some of the actions of the hero might put some readers off towards the end (it didn’t bother me as I was expected that 3rd act conflict but it was realistic) and it didn’t deter my true love of this romance.
Overall View Royally Not Ready was a lively packed romance that brought together some beautiful factors with a perfect touch of humor to really deliver in such a riveting, deep in the feels romance!
Meghan Quinn brings royal romance in an almost never before seen package in Royally Not Ready. It is witty and entertaining. It has slow burn angst in spades. And of course, the infinite level of heat between Lilly and Keller. I laughed, swooned and got full on butterflies in stomach. I was also searching for fire station number because holy hotness overload extraordinaire!
Who doesn't want to be whisked away to a cold country to be crowned as the next queen? Lilly Campbell. That's who. She was happily running her bikini shop on wheels when Keller Fitzwilliam burged into her life and tells her that she is royalty from Torskethorpe as her mother was the princess. Now she has to travel far and get trained by Keller. She is angry and confused and curious. And grumpy Keller isn't exactly the sweetest person to be around. And their chemistry is like a fire that refused to die. But Keller refuses to cross a line because this country and royal family is his everything.
In last few books, Meghan Quinn's heroines were not exactly my favourite. But Lilly is just perfect. She is full of sunshine and sass. She has no filter. She lives fully without regrets. She loves and laughs freely. But she also has a vulnerable side that got exposed under the stressful situation. She always wanted a family after losing her parents and now she is informed that she has a Royal family and royal duties. She has to adjust a lot and that was not easy. She acted out initially and it was directed at Keller mostly. The gorgeous alpha grumpy man who don't see anything beyond his royal responsibilities. He pushed Lilly too far too early and they were driving each other crazy. Their nuclear hot attraction was another issue. Lilly was off limits but she was irresistible too. Holy hot slow burn heaven and hell! It was easily Meghan Quinn's hottest book till date. Scenes those will make you blush and burn. Save some private time and keep some change of panties at hand. Because dominating Keller is too hot to handle. Full on BDSM scenes are not what I expected from this story. But the author mixed the funny ,flirty, cute scenes with the uber filthy ones so well. Keller and Lilly created a strong and intense emotional connection and oh my heart, I cannot take so much beauty. The setting was amazing. The country with the fictional culture and fictional people was so believable. I was in a filthy fairytale and I didnt want to leave. The author unleahsed a lot of angsty heartbreaking feels too before taking us to an epic happily ever after. Royally Not Ready is really the full package.
After my not so great feelings after the last story I read from this author (I'm looking at you A Not So Meet Cute)... I went into this book with a bit of trepidation. Would I like it? Would this be the end, at least for awhile, of my relationship with this author?
Let me tell you what I quickly realized...
Within the first few chapters, I knew I was gonna love this book. I was already giggling and swoonig and there was so much more to read. I lived for every grumpy moment with Keller. I anticipated every inappropriate thought and word from Lilly. I couldn't get enough! By the time I got to the end, I was extremely grateful that I didn't have to wait to read the next book because IT'S ALREADY OUT!!
Lilly is the long lost heir to a scandinavian kingdom and she was soooo not ready. Keller was determined to shape her into someone worthy of the title of future queen. Everything that happened in between, such as the humor and the heat and the banter and the... well, just EVERYTHING... made this a must-read for me. I knew that it was going to get all of the stars. It was like reading what I know to expect from MQ and so much more.
So I'm off to get my hands on Royally In Trouble, which I'm hoping is just as amazing (if not more than) this was!
Royally not ready? No, I was not. HOLY SMOKES! There was multiple instances where I had to turn my kindle off and do a lap around my house to simmer down. This book is H.O.T HOT. We meet Lily, who is so comfortable in her own skin and sexuality and Keller, the man tasked to track down the long lost heir. The slow build turned sexual innuendos, shew fan me off. Disclaimer: I'm not typically a fan of the royal trope, not because of the storyline but mainly the accents. I know, weird. But Meghan pulled this gem (see what I did there?) that didn't have me cringing the entire time.
I cannot recommend this book enough. The banter, love story and hot scenes? You will definitely need to take a dip in the pool to cool off.
Firstly.. holy hell this is a smutty smutty book! I was not expecting that much spice but I loved it all!
I’m a huge fan of Megan and this book didn’t disappoint. It had me laughing out loud, smiling, blushing and so much more.
I absolutely loved Lilly! She is so funny, so free and just an amazing character! Her one liners, her joke when I grow up I want to be just like Lilly 😂
plot? non existent if you ask me. this was cute but nothing special and I honestly only read this in hopes of getting out of a reading slump (which it did work) but yeah this book is honestly 200 pages too long
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would!! 10/10!!! This book was exceptionally written! Funny, heart wrenching and a little spicy! The banter and dynamics between each character really made this book flow! I couldn’t put it down!! I laughed, I cried, I got mad at times. The characters each struggling with their own personal demons yet helping each other overcome them the best way they knew how, really hit home for me. It reminded me of The Princess Diaries sprinkled with a little 50 Shades of Grey. I loved that this book wasn’t written with an old-timey royal type feel but rather modern day. And can we take a moment to appreciate King Theo!! My god, he really shows the meaning of making someone a part of your family by the way he treats Keller! My heart dropped into my butt at the end! What a wild ride! I’m stoked to continue on Lilly’s journey in the next book!
It was enjoyable but it had some flaws. Sadly it wasn’t as funny as I was told it would be. Lilly is sassy and snarky but not in a way that it had me cracking up, alas.
The obligatory part where is all goes to hell felt quite… idk, bogus since it had been discussed seceral times at that point, with all parties invloved.
OMG I loved Lilly and Keller. I'm pretty sure I had a legit smile on my face the entire time I was reading this book. I also think this might be Meghan's spiciest book and that's saying something. Just Meghan Quinn Perfection!
