My name is Storm Redfield: Navy Commander, still kicking ass at 161 years old.
So far, I’ve had a good time in the 23rd Century. I discovered space travel and fought evil creatures in a distant star system. Made friends with a one-eyed Cyclopean who sounds like a British lord, discussed romance novels with a blushing AI therapist… And the cherry on the cake: had kinky sex with a gorgeous alien warrior.
When a quiet return to Earth turns into an almost deadly mission, my universe is tipped upside down all over again. A young girl with a hero crush, jail time, connecting to my inner cyborg… A mere prelude to the most insane challenge I’ve ever faced. My take on it?
N.D. SHAR is the pen name for bestselling lesbian fiction author Natalie Debrabandere, whose books include Vagabond, Lucky Louk, and One Fine Morn. Under N.D SHAR, she writes edgy Sci-Fi with a kick-ass female lead and non-stop galactic action.
This is faced paced and action packed. I enjoyed this more than the previous installment - at least until the character of Stella returned. I'm afraid I just do not get her appeal at all.
I like our MC Red and her human frailties and vulnerabilities, which Stella is constantly haranguing her, and sneering about. I think it's what makes her an excellent team member and leader.
In this installment we get to see her kicking bad guy ass and rescuing a sassy teenaged princess who is outspoken and determined in being her own hero and stepping up to kickass herself. Red encourages this but in the best ways, to enable the girl to still have her childhood, and be supported by family, and not entirely endangered. I loved this mentor quality and the bond they formed.
More action ensues as intergalactic war is starting, and really terrible, scary, very bad guys attack Pluto, and may be coming for Earth next.
3 stars. At this point, I’m just a fan of the cover to this series. They’re really cool. Other than that this was fine. I’m way in the minority but something isn’t clicking with me. These are enjoyable enough but nothing really hooks me.
I felt the writing was a bit better here and I got some much needed character development from Red which was great. The action scenes are a fun time and some of the side characters are interesting but the overall series as a whole is a dud for me. I probably won’t pick up book three when it comes out but I do want to check out this author’s other works.
3.5 stars. Slightly more depth added to these characters, but it still reads like film and you don't get terribly attached to anyone. Still a fun read.
Just what you would expect from Baylor Debrabandre. I haven’t read a book from her that I don’t like. Some of them are good and some of them are great! This one is great! This character is so raw, brutal, get human. She’s very complex with deeply rooted issues that you can imagine a soldier/assassin might have but she’s so much more. The other characters are uniquely unusual as is this future earth and solar system. I just don’t know where she comes up with it but I wanted to keep doing it!
Fun, flirty sci-fi space opera that’s queer normative. The first book in the series jumped right into the action and readers were constantly on their toes trying to figure out the world alongside the main character. Book 2 however was slower paced (albeit with plenty of action), and, with all of the recapping from book 1, could be read as a stand-alone— this over explaining pushed the novel down to 3 stars. Maybe I would feel differently if I didn’t not read them back to back.
Second book in the Alpha Red series and Res is back with a bang! Love the introduction of new characters to go along with our favorites from book 1. The whole universe is going to sh$t and Red is bang in the middle, exciting, fast paced adventure, loved every action packed and tender moment
Fucking awesome book!!! It gives you a taste of everything in one book; romance,(warrior style), sorrow, action, comedy; and action. You couldn't ask for a anything more. I highly recommend this book. 👏
I read everything you write with bated breath. I know, just by your name, i'll be in for a treat. You weave a story so well and I know the journey will be enjoyable. Please continue in your endeavors and know I am waiting like all your fans.
The writer is flawless no matter the genre or name. Stella is a softy towards Red, buy hard to others. Book two got me tears for Sanchez. Neryse is a little badass! Cannot wait for more!
Red is back and at full lethal power! Red’s current mission is to rescue a young girl taken prisoner by slavers. She does that and finds the girl quite the handful. Stella appears in this book, yay! A rousing read!
What a brilliant book. I absolutely love this series. Red & Stella kicking ass again and feisty Nerys is a great addition. If you like sci fi and strong sexy women you will love this book
Totally hooked on this series, as I am on other of this authors work. On top of the story line, it’s her writing. Sharp. Clean. No wasted forays for you to suffocate in. I’m working my way through her whole body of work. Reliable in all genres she writes in. Highly recommend.
Great storyline. Fast paced, action packed. The dynamic and hilarious banter between Red and Stella is sooooo addictive. Cannot wait for the next book!
okay, I'm sooo hooked! I thought book 1 was really good but this one was even better and only my opinion matters here eh hahaha.
It is a fast paced story, but the pace is somehow quite pleasant, it doesn't few that rushed. And everything is still very intriguing and eye catching. But I still would've loved to get to know things in more detail. I really am those annoying readers who wants all the answers to their questions answered at their will lol, so that's on me heheh.
Anyway, the book is packed with action and I'm here for it.
And all the characters are still amazing with Red still being a baddy with Stella not leaving her mind after several months (such a sucker for badass warriors, aren't we all?) oh and add to that Nerys, a delightful girl! I missed more of Dr. Fox though and I hope I can see more of her next. And ofc I wouldn't mind more steamy moments between Red and Stella, it's fun.
I'm quite excited to what comes next, hopefully a few more books, because I really don't think we saw enough of this world yet.
