What a great collect of authors and stories!
This is for The Hooker and the Hermit by Penny Reid and LH Cosway

Well, I guess that my preconceived notions were wrong again. Why? The title? No, The blurb, well maybe. I have to confess, it may be due to having read Penny Reid's Knitting in the City series. I was thinking that this book would be a comedy from cover to cover. No. There are funny moments-a lot of them. This book grabbed me right away. I loved Ronan so much, what a teddy bear of a guy. The irony of it all, is that his public persona was the exact opposite! That's where Annie comes in. She's a recluse that has a job in PR- in fixing celebrities' public images. Annie is painfully shy. She arranges her job so that she rarely has to come into her office. Her firm takes on Ronan as a client. Ronan is an Irish star Rugby player. He's had a some trouble with his cheating ex trying to further ruin his reputation. Annie's boss Joan assigns Annie to his case. I loved their interactions- especially when they first meet. The éclair scene was kind of sexy, especially Ronan's thoughts while watching Annie eat the éclair.
Social media is a big part of this story. Blogging, emailing, secret cell phone photography, etc. Ronan is attracted to Annie, even while Annie is wearing baggy loose fitting clothing. Annie's boss Joan gets Annie to wear more up to date clothing to fit in with the job. Ronan does let Annie know that she should wear what she wants-even though she does dress up well.
Annie is thrown into the public eye more and more. I really appreciate a shy main character. Ronan appreciates this and takes great care with her. Annie also has a strong side too which comes out more and more.
Throughout the book, there are big reveals. There's a villain- I just knew that she was coming- and the anticipation was killing me. Ronan is wonderful with Annie, and I loved how he dealt with his ex.(what a bitch)
There are several times where Ronan and Annie's relationship is tested. Ronan shows a lot of growth, but it's really Annie that has the biggest test of her life. There are very good reasons for Annie's closed off life and personality. Can she let Ronan in? I really felt difficult Annie's dilemma. Should she let Ronan in her heart?
I love Penny Reid's writing and now I know LH Cosway's writing.
I would love to read more from these two. *ps, I'm currently reading Cosway's Foretold- her latest! it's YA paranormal

Daria & Penn 💜🖤💜🖤

I love L.J. Shen's books but with this one, I'm so in love with her writing 💜!

It's past only two months after I started reading the series "Sinners of Saint" and now I've got the first book from spin-off series "All Saints High". Perfect timing 😉!

Some books make us smile, some books make us cry. With this story, I felt so many feelings inside me that I don't even know I have them 😭.

I love so much Daria's character 💞.

Yes, she did some seriously bad things, but when you read the whole story you find out that her mistakes are not only her responsibility.

She's a broken person who just wanted her mum to be a mum to her, not a friend.

And to get her attention, she did what every teenager would do to get attention from parents...

Get in trouble...

"The girl who created the Hulk inside me."

We all have our personal Hulk who lives inside us.

We're not perfect.

We make mistakes as Daria did.

But till the end, we learned from them and like Daria, we correct them.

We're all just human beings.

Because of all that Daria is one of my favorite female characters (I think that Daria is my lost sister 😅).

I love Penn too 💜. He's one of my favorite male characters (the bad boy who is a gentleman for his girlfriend).

He was the guy from the wrong side, but he was also a guy who wanted to become someone better than his parents.

To have a good life.

What I love the most in the book is Daria's relationship with her dad, Jaime. He was her hero like every dad in this world should be to their daughters.

Daria and Penn together make a perfectly imperfect couple ❤.

The one you want from the beginning of this story to be together for the rest of their life 😭💗.

I will always love The Wrong Game by Kandi Steiner it has my heart and soul. ⭐️5 💧10
Unfortunately, the other books in this anthology could not hold my attention despite the writing being good. They also kind of blurred together because almost all of them were both athletes and some drama that’s not really new.
This is why I’m giving the anthology as a whole 3⭐️

PLAYING THE FIELD A SPORTS ROMANCE BOX SET
The Hooker and the Hermit by Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway is a rugby sports romance set in New York.
Ronan is an Irish rugby player who’s image needs to be cleaned up, and who better to do that than the social media marketing expert, Anna. But that’s not all she does, she also has a blog which picks apart male celebrities.
After Anna releases an article and photo on her online blog - Socialmedialite, she seems to cause some hurt towards Ronan with being both objectified and his mistaken identity. Rather than ignoring it, he writes a sassy email, which begins a whole back and forth between these two.
But their paths will cross in real life, and not just virtual or from a distance, when it’s time for Ronan and Anna to work together to improve the image that the world sees of him. Their relationship is rocky at times but does have a HEA.

*I’ll probably come back to these books again.

14/07/2022 - I only got about 1% in (to put that in context, this bundle has lots of books in it so 1% isn't as early in the first book as it sounds) and decided I just couldn't do it. I have just had to do a mandated sexual harassment course at work, and the hero in the first book was sounding ALL the alarms I've now learned to watch out for (and already knew a lot of anyway).

Sure, she wants it (secretly) but it was still making me very uncomfortable the approach he was taking. Even down to how he wondered why she couldn't try to be polite, at least, and he was just complimenting her by coming on strong / crowding into her space / looking her up and down in a leering way, etc. Seriously, everything he did was covere din this sexual harassment course I completed at work.

So yeah ... I gave up. I decided to skip to the next novel, but only got a couple of pages in before I realised I already hated the hero (it was meant to be a hilarious start to the novel no doubt, but as soon as I learned he's slept with one girl's sister while seeing her, I was out). I'm sure he's a nice guy too and I missed out on learning all that by stopping early, but that'll just have to be my loss.

Review pour "The Hooker and the Hermit" de Penny Reid & LH Cosway

Review for "The Hooker and the Hermit" by Penny Reid & LH Cosway

Our two authors tell us here how Annie, a great introvert on the verge of agoraphobia, will gradually come out of her bubble and trust the world thanks to Ronan. Being a rugby player, he used to smash everything in his way, there he will make it a point of honor to demolish the wall that Annie has built around her.

It's a game of cat and mouse, with the advantages and disadvantages of life 2.0 : blogs, Twitter, Instagram, FB etc. that's good, the security of the pseudonym even better, but after a while you'll have to play fair... What was an escape for Annie will question her relationship with Ronan. Both will ask themselves questions about what they would be ready to give up for the other, even if it means changing their lives completely.

Let's put our feet in it : the sex scenes are hot and very different from Knitting in the City, it starts light obviously, but it will quickly become unbridled and it may not please everyone with "dominating/dominated" theme. I admit, there's a scene that wasn't my thing, but I didn't hate it either, because 1 it was well written, 2 there's a role reversal a bit later and 3 "oh la la consent, it exiiiiiiiist in real life !!!!!" .

Finally when you take the book as a whole and look at how Annie and Ronan win over each other, I tell myself that ok it's not necessarily the thing I prefer but at least these people do not send back a negative image .

You have been warned, happy reading !

This is an amazing collection of sports romances including a few of my favorites -

The Wrong Game by Kandi Steiner:
This story was a little different than the typical romance stories that I've read...and I've read A LOT of romance stories. A season's worth of home game tickets and a plan to take a new guy to every game. Just some fun, no strings, no relationships. Introduce a hot bartender and that plan soon falls through. Loved the banter between these characters, but also some emotional moments that pulled at the heart strings. Another great read by this author.

Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan:
This story was not what I was expecting but it was such a good, emotional read. Very difficult to read at times, and it definitely contains triggers for some people so be prepared going in. This was one of those stories that will stay with you and bring you to a new understanding of the situations that women sometimes find themselves in. Highly recommended.

Pretty Reckless by LJ Shen:
Wow. Just wow. This story has it all. All the angst, all the secrets, all the emotion, and an underlying message that needs to be heard. Daria is the Queen Bee at All Saints High, a privileged princess. Penn is the bad boy from the other side of the tracks. All is never as it seems though and as truths come to light, lives will be forever changed. I won't say more than that for fear of giving away too much. Just read it.

You definitely don't want to miss this collection!

Fantastic combination of authors!

Pretty Reckless - LJ Shen 5⭐️

This series will always be the ultimate in NA bully, enemies to lovers, for me. Beautifully executed, age appropriate behaviour in every way. It’s extremely hard to top Ms. Shen’s style. The angst, engaging prose and relatable storylines are must reads.

“𝒲𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝓌𝑜𝓊𝓁𝒹 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒽𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝒶𝓈𝓀𝑒𝒹 𝑜𝒻 𝓂𝑒 𝒾𝒻 𝐼 𝓉𝑜𝑜𝓀 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓈𝑒𝒶 𝑔𝓁𝒶𝓈𝓈?” - Daria
“𝒯𝑜 𝓈𝒶𝓋𝑒 𝓂𝑒 𝒶𝓁𝓁 𝓎𝑜𝓊𝓇 𝒻𝒾𝓇𝓈𝓉𝓈,” 𝒽𝑒 𝓌𝒽𝒾𝓈𝓅𝑒𝓇𝓈.” - Penn

💗 These two! I may adore Vicious—Daria and Penn will always come in a very close second.

“ 𝐹𝒶𝓁𝓁𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒾𝓃 𝓁𝑜𝓋𝑒 𝒾𝓈 𝓈𝒾𝓂𝒾𝓁𝒶𝓇 𝓉𝑜 𝒹é𝒿à 𝓋𝓊. 𝐼𝓉’𝓈 𝒻𝒾𝓃𝒹𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒶 𝒽𝑜𝓂𝑒 𝒾𝓃 𝒶 𝓈𝓉𝓇𝒶𝓃𝑔𝑒𝓇.”

Penn’s story is one of fate. Too many mistakes by those who should have loved him and so much wasted time.

“𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝑜𝓃𝓁𝓎 𝓌𝒶𝓎 𝐼 𝒸𝑜𝓊𝓁𝒹 𝓅𝓇𝑜𝓉𝑒𝒸𝓉 𝓂𝓎𝓈𝑒𝓁𝒻 𝒻𝓇𝑜𝓂 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒻𝒾𝓇𝑒 𝓌𝒶𝓈 𝒷𝓎 𝒸𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒶 𝒷𝒾𝑔𝑔𝑒𝓇 𝒷𝓁𝒶𝓏𝑒.”

Poor little rich girl, Daria’s orbit around him was inevitable. Regardless of her status, she had to survive her parents notoriety, and fall from grace. Penn was there to catch her before she knew he existed.

“ 𝑀𝓎 𝒷𝑜𝒹𝓎, 𝓂𝓎 𝓈𝑜𝓊𝓁, 𝓂𝓎 𝒽𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓉. 𝒜𝓁𝓁 𝓂𝓎 𝓌𝒶𝓁𝓁𝓈 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝒹𝑜𝓌𝓃.”

These two were perfectly messed up and perfectly matched. 💞

Ms. Shen remains one of my favourite one click authors. This series is one I’ll happily read all over again.

What an amazing collect of authors and stories!
This review is for Pretty Reckless by L.J. Shen

10 Skull Eyes stars

Pretty Reckless was, without a doubt, my favorite reading of 2019. Once I started this book I wasn't able to stop. I just needed to know everything. And I feel that no matter what I write here, it will never do this book justice.

We met Daria in Vicious (although it was only a mention of her name there LOL) and then we got a glimpse of her throughout the SOS series. So I was excited to know what it would be like to live inside the mind of the Daria I thought I knew. Oh, how wrong I was, because Daria was nothing like I expected her to be. There is much more of Daria than what is shown on the surface and that "much more" is simply all. Penn is perfect boyfriend material. And totally what Daria and her story need.

This book had me sighing, screaming and running around my house (literally), crying and smiling so much, that I am not even able to put into words everything I felt. So everyone should read it and live what I lived with this wonderful book.

Pretty Reckless- This book is everything!! I am speechless after reading it! When I first started this book I didn’t think I was going to like Daria that much, but I fell in love with her! She had me laughing out loud but there was a few tears for her as well. What I love about her was she was strong when she need to be and stayed truthful to herself! She’s so much more then what meets the eye. I fell in love with Penn the first moment I met him! I love that he’s tries to do the right thing (even though sometimes it’s wrong), he’s loyal and when he loves someone he puts them first above everything else. I love them together, the hate, the love and all the reckless things they do. My heart broke for them and the things they go and been through. This book has so many twists and turns you don’t know what’s going to happen. You’ll also see Knight, Vaughn, Luna and the original TotHoles. This book is amazing LJ and so worth the wait! This book is so full of emotions, of heartache and joy. Y’all won’t be disappointed.

To say that I am a avid reader of sports romance would be an understatement. I just freaking love the trope so much, that when one of my favorite authors posted that this anthology was free - for a limited time - I ran to my computer to get it and it was beyond everything I had hoped for. But I would have paid good money for it. It's that good!

It was the perfect mix of full-length stories I've already read - written by some of my absolute favorite authors, some that has been sitting pretty on my TBR list in like forever and authors I've only just discovered by reading this gem of a collection - but that's what I like about these kinds of collabarations.

Now, of course there were some of the stories I liked more than others, some which I honestly didn't expect the darkness or heartbreak, but - well, spoiler I guess, they do all have happy endings and thank you for that.

TEN BOOKS INCLUDE:

The Hooker by Penny Reid and L.H. Cosway **
boring, very slow, often used plot-line, plot and twists are predictable and no surprise

Endurance by Amy Daws *
bad research, I was skipping a lot, heroine is doctor with a foul mouth, hero is a manwhore, the book needs serious editing, the author neglected to do research, the plot is faulty and unbelievable,

Settling the Score by R.S. Grey *
My petpeeve is research on a topic the author is unfamiliar with but wants to make it the main plot nevertheless. Here it is a sport - female football/soccer - not very popular in the USA and swimming, both performed by heroine and hero. The book is set in Rio during the Olympic games. To my great surprise both spend a lot of time in the gym or doing recreational stuff instead of practising in Andie's case either on the pitch with the team or one on one practise with the goalie coach or in Freddie's case in the swimmingpool. Both want to win goldmedals and should focus on their goal and not how to have fun and get laid.
I wonder why Andie didn't get help from her trainer during training camp, the physical therapist only showed up in Rio??? Repeatedly she says that the main goal she was focused on for the last ten years has been a gold medal, but in Rio we only hear she wants to have fun - not very professional.
Freddie can be relaxed he already has six goldmedals. As a professional athlete he is in charge of his life, I could not understand why he didn't take time in London- one hour would be enough - to tell his mother firmly that he doesn't want to marry xy. Just for the storyline with a conniving fiancèe he appears to be a wimp.
There are no descriptions of their competitions or of emotions during the medal ceremonies instead the reader gets groping, lusting, sex, and waiting for phonecalls.
The only nice character was his sister Ellie.

Wasted Words by Staci Hart *
"Wasted Words" is the appropriated title and I feel that I wasted time on this novel.
I can hardly remember another heroine I disliked as much. She is a know-it-all heroine with little to none self-esteem, her reason for feeling belonging on another shelf than Tyler stems from one incident in highschool and does not really explain her behaviour.
Tyler is a saint and I couldn't see any chemistry between them.

The Wrong Game by Kandi Steiner **
There is too much inner repetitive monologue of the heroine, it gets boring. The plotline is interesting, the execution is done badly. The hero is great, it is fun to read about his ideas how to win the heroine.

Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan **
abusive, dark plot

Pucked by Helena Hunting ****
crazy, funny MCs, heroine strong, clever, hockey

Pretty Reckless by L.J. Shen *
College, skipping a lot

Hard Love by Sara Ney ***
I didn't like the heroine, she was dumb: with a master in public relations and being brought up as the heir to an baseball franchise she should know all about public appearance, yet each time she behaves like a teenager.
The book got the stars because of a teenager, the girl from next door. Her psychlogical advice was hilarious and spot on.
The hero was in spite of his rough behaviour a likabele character, a famous football player who was not chasing the bunnies but trying to avoid them.

The Bombshell Effect by Karla Sorensen****
The plot is nothing you haven't read before - heroine inherits football franchise and begins a romance with the quaterback- here you have as a heart warming addition the hero's six-year-old daughter. The romance is written well, very entertaining.

Excellent anthology

This was a really excellent anthology of sports-themed romances. Each story in the anthology is a full-length, previously released novel by well-known authors. I was familiar with a number of them, but I will definitely seek out more from the authors that were new to me. Tropes, styles and sports varied between books, with a real nice range to suit all kinds of tastes & moods. All with decent level of spice.

Kandi did it again. What an emotional rollercoaster with all the feels from the first page to the last. Awesome job girl! Gemma and Zach have each been through so much in their young lives. I can definitely relate. Their troubles are so different, but they affect them equally in moving forward in their futures. Stark in and hold on tight for their story.

Swoon!

As a reader of sports romance with a happily ever after ending, this Playing the Field box set was a winner. Each story held my attention until the very last page. Strong athletes and powerful women facing life's complications and pulling through, what's not to like!!! You can feel the sexy heat throughout each individual story. We'll worth the read!!

Found quite a few new authors

I really enjoyed this anthology, with the exception of two of the stories.
I think it would’ve been far more enjoyable if more than half the stories werent focused on American football. Seriously, I felt the rugby, soccer, hockey, and basketball (that was a very powerful Ms. Ryan) stories were far better and much more entertdining

outstanding sports romance box set!!!

If you love sports romance then you’ve got the perfect box set right here. So many different sports, so many tropes, and all by different authors. Excellent authors! This is seriously one of the best box sets I’ve read. Get it you won’t regret it.

some good some poor

Really enjoyed any daws, penny Reid, Staci hart and especially Helena hunting. The others were either too immature or storylines were ridiculous and far fetched. Was an okay set of reads but it sure I’d recommend it.
