After tumultuous times, Lady Maude MacIntyre’s beloved son is laird and happily wed. Now, the widowed healer and soothsayer yearns to forget her cruel duty marriage and find true love herself. Yet no vision prepares her for a plea to tend Keir Wright: the fierce, stubborn, seasoned warrior once at the heart of her lustiest imaginings. Years ago banished from the clan, Keir cannot believe the one woman forbidden to him—an ethereal, highborn beauty he’s always craved—would come to his remote dwelling and save his life. But alone together, as they surrender to tenderness and wicked pleasures long denied, he dares to dream of a future where love conquers all…even a chasm in wealth and position. However, a bitter enemy stalks Keir and Maude, one who won’t rest until old vengeances are complete. Can two world-weary souls find their joyous forever, or will evil snatch their chance at love?
Her Wicked Highlander contains explicit sex scenes, strong language, brief instances of violence, and mentions of family deaths.
Series reading order: 1. Wicked Passions 2. Her Wicked Highlander
USA Today bestselling author Nicola Davidson worked for many years in media and government communications, but hasn't looked back since she decided writing erotic historical romance was infinitely more fun. When not chained to a computer, she can be found ambling along one of New Zealand’s beautiful beaches, cheering on the All Blacks rugby team, history geeking on the internet, or daydreaming. If this includes dessert—even better! Her books have appeared in USA Today, NPR, and Entertainment Weekly. I love romances where the hero and heroine find each other later in life. Keir and Maude suffered many years and longed for each other for a very long time before being able to be together. You can always count on Nicola Davidson to write the hottest sex scenes. Pearl clutchers shouldn't bother.
This is the second book in Nicola Davidson’s Glennoe Highlanders series. While I think it’s more fun having read Wicked Passions first, this stands well on its own.
Absolutely delightful! Davidson’s balancing of humor, mystery, suspense, and hot sex are perfect. I love that Keir and Maude are in their 40s (more romance with older MCs!!!!). I’m also a huge fan of single parent trope - Keir’s new status as his niece’s guardian brings all my favorite aspects in. Sorcha is adorable and spunky yet still grieving her parents. Keir may be gruff, but he loves her fiercely and works hard at learning how to parent her.
I adore that Keir and Maude have a chance to experience the love that was forbidden to them for so long. It was also great to catch up on Callum, Allistair, and Isla as well as see their support for Maude & Keir. The angst comes from a threat against them, surviving an attack, and sleuthing the perpetrator. I don’t want to give anything away which leaves me just gushing about what a fun, sexy, riveting read this was.
When I noticed the book's high ratings and the story was of a couple finding each other later in life, I was eager to read it. However, while I appreciated the plot, I found the extensive erotic scenes unappealing.
My heart went out to both Keir and his niece Sorcha. After losing her parents (Keir's brother and sister-in-law), Keir became Sorcha's guardian, not an easy job for a bachelor. Sorcha was adorable, showing as much concern for her uncle as he does for her. I especially loved how she hesitated to leave him even for a short time, fearing he might miss her.
Even though Keir was gruff and had no idea how to be a parent, his fierce love for Sorcha and dedication to learning how to care for her were heartwarming.
It was wonderful that Keir and Maude had a chance to experience the love that was forbidden for so long. The tension in the story stemmed from threats against them, surviving an attack, and uncovering the perpetrator.
If you enjoy erotic historical romance with an element of mystery, I recommend this book.

Okay, so I have read a lot of Nicola’s stories and every one of them has been fabulous. So looking at this story’s synopsis I thought okay, I will give it a try but it looks a little floofy (yes, that is my made up word). Let me tell you, this story is way more than light. There is mystery, intrigue, lots of loving and lots and lots of caring. Oh yeah, I cried. Keir and Maude’s characters are so amazingly written by Nicola. I love seeing older (not old) couples as the main characters. No slouching in the smexy department either. Little Sorcha almost stole the show but Nicola reigned her in enough. Nicola, your stories are so good. I read this as part of KU.
4.25 stars *chef's kiss* Trigger Warnings: emotional and verbal abuse (past), loss of loved ones, physical injury, blood, slight gore, fire, violence, and death
Maude goes to Keir when she learns he is hurt. Her late husband, the laird, had banished Keir after an altercation between them. Maude has always had feelings for Keir. He also has loved her for years. While there, a fire occurs, and they and Keir's niece escape through a tunnel he built in his cottage. When they get out, they find a chain locked on the door as well as threats. Callum, Maude's son and the current laird, lets the clan know Keir's banishment is lifted and that the fire at Keir's place was deliberate, designed to kill. Who is responsible for the fire? Will Callum allow his mother to be part of Keir's life?
I enjoyed this book. There was a lot happening. I liked that Maude and Keir were older. I enjoyed the laird telling his mother what he expected from her regarding Keir. I liked Keir's niece, Sorcha. She is an orphan, looking for the love she lost when her parents died. Keir is bewildered by her but tries to do his best. You can feel the unsp0ken love between them. When Sorcha gets hooked up with Isla, Maude's daughter-in-law, you know eventually Sorcha will be as much a handful at Isla.
I was glad that they found out who was responsible for the raid that killed Sorcha's parents as well as the fire that almost killed Maude, Keir, and Sorcha. I'm sorry to be leaving Glennoe. It is an enchanting place full of love.
I loved this story! Keira and Maude's story was written so well, it seemed like people you know and care for. I also loved the medicinal facts and treatments that Nicola wrote in - as a history buff and nerd it warms my heart when I learn new facts in my historical romances. I also loved that both main characters were older (in their early to mid-forties) and their love story, with acing knees and toe cramps (we've had that happen!) made the story more believable and enjoyable.
I loved the first instalment in the Glennoe Highlanders, and while it is not necessary to have read the first one to follow this lovely story it was really nice to see Alistair, Callum and Isla's marriage and how happy they still are.
Huge fan of this author! Here's what's especially awesome about this book: ~ Love found later in life. Kier and Maude are both over forty. Their passion was not diminished, but they acknowledged aching knees post coitus, which was adorable and familiar. ~ Variety is the spice of life! Loved all the heat between these two main characters, and definitely appreciated the variety in the sexytimes (positions, acts, locations, moods). ~ Truly strong female lead. Maude stays true to herself (maintains her healer practice, supports her children in non-standard relationships, builds friendships that give her joy) despite naysayers. ~ Family building. Watching Sorcha the orphan open up to Kier and connect with Maude and become Isla's number one fan was just as fun as following the main love story. And Sorcha is just the right amount of ornery.
This story features an older couple which is a trope I am always looking for more of. Lady Maude McIntyre and Keir Wright met years ago but could not be together. Years later, Maude goes to help Keir after he is injured and it doesn’t take much time for them to act on their desires. I loved how possessive Keir was and how he loved all of Maude. I loved how caring Maude was and how she wasn’t afraid to go for what she wanted. There is a suspense plot in this story which I normally don’t like but I didn’t mind this. Overall, I definitely recommend this.
CW: past marital abuse, loss of loved ones, blood, physical injury, fire, violence, death
From a spicy triad in the first book to an older couple who've been pining for ages, this series took a turn and I'm here for it. There is something so sweetly appealing about a character who has endured a loveless and cruel marriage finally having a chance to experience the love, support, and sexy time that a good partner can bring. Add in a little hellion of a young niece, and this book just worked for me. It's short, but manages to cover a lot of territory, and I was rooting for everyone to just be happy together already! I particularly loved the author's lens on older bodies, and how deeply into each other these two were. I'm excited to read more from Nicola.
This was a sweet book, loved that Maude and Keir loved each other unconditionally. Maude's witchy powers barely factored in plot-wise other than "he doesn't want to kill me, yay!" which was a bit disappointing. Also, I knew who the "bad guy" was from 28% in, and it bothered me that it took so long for the MCs to figure it out...
A medieval erotic romance between two 40+ characters. Maude is the mother of Callum from Wicked Passions (book 1). She has been in an abusive marriage, ended by the death of her husband. She's a healer and has visions, and has been pining for Keir for years, though forbidden to interact or treat him by her late asshat of a husband.
It's super sexy and there's external danger. It's a good, enjoyable read. But I can't help comparing it to Wicked Passions which I found to be a lot more fun. Probably a reader end issue.
Another great novella by Nicola Davidson. She really has a talent of making novella's read like full fledged novels.
I love the chemistry between Maude and Keir and am so happy they had their happy ending after all these years.
It does seem that it should've occurred to the characters who the bad guy was since it was pretty obvious. And not just as a reader. But that's just a nitpick.
Highlander sexy times starring a m/f couple in their 40’s with a dangerous mystery to be solved. While not necessarily required to read the first book in the series, it does establish several important side characters. The fmc is the mother of one of the mmc’s in the first book.
Looooooved this book. Oh to have a Man’s man who knows how to treat a woman how amazing that would be. So sad when the book was finished. Thank you Nicole for a great read and wonderful ending.
Love romances with older heroes/heroines! This was spectacular! Hot and intense. The number of times over the millennia that women have been labeled as witches. Ugh.
I really enjoyed reading Maude and Keir's tale and lovely to see mature couples getting it on, sexy, passionate, fun and totally into each other. Nicola Davidson never disappoint.
A good short read, which is more of a mild erotica, no deep plot. If you are in the mood for something spicy, this is great. The characters are well developed for the short length of the story.
Nicola’s books are always wonderfully written, researched and spicy and this is no exception. I am such a sucker for a “single dad/single uncle raising child” by himself and Keir is so delicious. I also love that her MC’s are always so strong and capable as Maude is with her healing gift. Loved that the characters were both 40+ and became grandparents as well.
