Rate this book
Three full-length novels, a novella and two short stories in one volume! This 6-in-1 collection is packed with adventure, courage, and of course, monsters. The Mostly Invisible Boy (Casey Grimes #1) Casey Grimes thinks his invisibility is permanent until he finds a secret forest society in charge of monster control. Now he’s got a chance to belong—if he can stay alive long enough. Trickery School (Casey Grimes #2) Monster-control academy starts for Casey & Gloria, but there's one little A secret enemy who's playing for keeps. Crooked Castle (Casey Grimes #2.5) When Brook, an orphan with a knack for survival, is dumped on a deadly island—by a beast that shouldn’t exist—all she knows is she’s far from her group home in Weed, California. And haunted by a past that stays just out of reach. The Ghost of CreepCat (Novella) When Lila Banks takes a hike, she doesn't expect to be stalked by the ghost of her recently-deceased cat. Into Thin Air (Short Story) This funny, surprising tale featuring a Casey Grimes character was cowritten by my fifteen-year-old son, Aidan—and me, AJ.

The Pencil Killer (Short Story)

This humorous short story with a twist features another Casey Grimes character. It was written with my thirteen-year-old son, Asher. (Fiction is a family affair around here.) Compare : If you bought these books individually, you'd pay a minimum of $60. That's not even counting the exclusive short stories.

AJ Vanderhorst has had many jobs, including journalist, paramedic, escape artist, and baby whisperer. One time in fifth grade, he built a traffic-stopping fort in a huge oak tree, using only branches and imagination, and slept there for a week.

Now he and his wife live in a woodsy house with their proteges and a ridiculous number of pets, including a turtle with a taste for human toes. This makes AJ an expert on wild, dangerous things—invisibility spells, butcher beasts, hungry kids, you get the idea.

He is the only author in the world who enjoys pickup basketball and enormous bonfires, preferably not at the same time. He and his family have drawn up several blueprints for their future tree castle. Visit AJ online at ajvanderhorst.com.

I’m working my way through the series little by little. I’m definitely not hooked as I was hoping to be. It’s not at all like Harry Potter, as the author claims. It’s quite unbelievable how the brother and sister even ended up in another world and they’re parents are on some random vacation never checking in? However, if my kids wanted to read this I would definitely be ok with it. Very clean writing without a hidden agenda.

Presented by the author via FB as a Harry Potter genre. I find the writing to be lacking of the quality of HP literature. The HP series is modern classical literature. That depth is not here. While the story is entertaining and a fun read, I feel it lacks the character and plot development I was hoping for.
