What starts out as a simple mission to help MI6 turns into something more complicated than John ‘Reaper’ Kane ever expected to come across.
All he has to do is babysit a former CIA officer who knew his grandfather from their days in the Vietnam War. But then the man claims that Kane’s grandfather—who supposedly died in a plane crash—was actually murdered. As proof, he gives Kane a diary, telling him that his questions will be answered by the time he finishes.
If only he can live long enough to read through to the end…
Deep in the pages, Kane learns things about his grandfather that he never knew before. And as it turns out, the two of them weren’t so different.
But one small detail has Kane dumbstruck… His grandfather was the original John ‘Reaper’ Kane.
If you like modern day Reaper you'll love Reaper 1.0. We've got Vietnam action, drug dealing action and some government conspiracy action. There's plenty of flipping back and forth between 1968 Reaper and present day Reaper but it's done so well it lets the story flow. If you're a Team Reaper fan then you know what to expect from Towns, action, interesting plot, exotic locales and interesting characters. We get a glimpse of Reaper 2.0's family and some interesting twists and turns. I sense more original am Reaper stories on the horizon. Well done.
There’s a solid technique used here - flashing back and forth in time to reveal more of Kane’s family history. But overall, this feels rushed, especially the ending. I’m always happy to see a new book from Towns, but taking time to tighten up the writing and dialogue is better than quantity.
This is different to earlier Kane books, in that it focuses very much on Reapers grandfather, in the way of a diary The diary also has relevance to current day issues and that's where Reaper comes in It's interesting reading about the Grandfather, also call sign Reaper, and clever how it interlinks with the situation today
Another great Reaper novel. Fast paced, on your seat read. Good back story on Kane's history. Can't wait to read the next one. Thank you Brent Towns for another great read.
How did Dealer's father die? Why is there always so many battles that are won but seem to be replaced by other battles? Since the answers that come seem to be replaced by more questions, Reaper can only keep taking another step seeking more questions. As usual, Brent Towns has scored another hit that just won't let you stop reading until the book is done. Shocking revelations about Reaper's family history just keep the pages turning and the tension mounting until finally, when you read the final words, you realize you've been holding your breath. Let it out, relax, until the next installment comes from Author Towns.
Hard for me to follow this one. Had a lot of twists and turns and so many different people that I sometimes had to go back and reread for a few pages. Still a great read.
John Kane the reaper, the character is very easily liked, brutal as he is,he is the hero we all want to be,fearless, charismatic, intelligent, brutal .down to earth S.F.operator
Few bodies in this one. The Reaper family tree is bought to light. They are highly trained killing machines. The cross over between the Dad and son with the chapters is quite well done.

Back to Nam, forward to NY, back to Cambodia, forward to today, back to Laos, forward to a warehouse in NY. One of the better books. Dealers DNA is all over.
