She owes me her life. I owe her my heart and soul. Mercenary work pays the bills and passes the time, but this job is personal. Someone’s selling Zathari women from my home planet, so I go undercover to find the scumbag and put a permanent end to his ugly business. Then I see tiny, human Helena on my target’s arm, wide-eyed and terrified, and everything changes. I pay a hefty sum to save her, with every intention of buying her a one-way ticket back to Earth. But I soon realize that this intriguing human is not only beautiful, but brave and stubborn beyond reason. She insists on staying by my side and posing as my stunning new purchase. Infiltrating a slave auction on a mysterious space station won't be easy, but with her insider knowledge and keen mind, she's a valuable asset. I promised to send her back to Earth, but as we spend more time together and her fiery spirit sears into my heart, I don’t know if I can let her go. Even if I have to sacrifice the mission and my soul to keep her.

The Rogues of the Zathari is an alien romance series featuring heart-pounding action, protective outlaw aliens with hearts of gold, and breath-taking romance that'll have you searching the stars for your own horned rogue.

After the Dominion conquered Earth, some of the inhabitants who accepted their rule were transferred to the new New Terra colony. After many years of Dominion rule, the Earth has become the backwater of the planets, where humanity struggles with the harsh conditions of everyday life. As the government sends fewer and fewer people to New Terra, this is an opportunity for all kinds of scammers who lure unsuspecting victims with promises to be transferred to the colony. One of them is our main character, Helena, who hoped to improve her live and ended up in the hands of a slave trafficker. His all slaves are trained to be obedient pets, ready to fulfill their master's wishes at any time. Any disobedience is punished, sometimes very brutally. Aradon treats his women as goods that he willingly shows at his parties. His guests are free to grope the slaves, but not have sex with them. This rule is introduced to encourage potential buyers at slave auctions to raise their bids.
During Aradon's visit to the casino, we meet Mistral, who poses as a rich man interested in slaves. Mistral plans to kill the trader, but in the meantime he changes his mind and decides to buy Helena from him and shows interest in further purchases. Which is why he is invited to a top-secret slave auction. Helena is concerned about the new owner, but soon learns that he may be a ticket to freedom for her and Aradon's other slaves.
I haven't read the first book in the series, I have only read the opinions about it. As some readers found it kinky, I expected something dark. This reading is definitely for adult because of the triggers: slavery, physical and sexual abuse. However, the relationship itself between Helena and Mistral was rather vanilla. From the beginning of the book, Mistral showed no desire to dominate Helen because of her past. We actually only have two scenes where the author decided to add some spice and introduced us to bondage sex. While reading them, I wondered why? Somehow it didn't fit to their relationship.
In the book (no matter if it's a light romance with a sassy heroine, or a dark erotic with a dominant alpha male) the most important thing for me is that the presented world draws me into the maelstrom of events. That I could experience ups and downs together with the heroes. Unfortunately, this spark is missing here. Even though the action was smooth, I felt like a spectator standing on the sidelines instead of actively participating in the events.

Rescue Missions Galore

I’m always a sucker for a good sci-fi romance book, and I love a book with fated mates, so this had both of those things going for it. My only issue with a lot of sci-fi romances is the women tend to be in a trafficking situation, and sometimes it’s just too graphic for my taste. I will say this book was more tame with the details because our main character Helena is kind of removed from the situation pretty early on, so most of what you experience is talked about rather than experiences, so if you are sensitive to the more graphic, I didn’t have much of an issue with this.
Helena is enjoyable as a character at least for me. When we start, she’s in a horrible situation, being sold. And she has seen things that no one should have to see. She carries a lot of guilt, for the women who came before her, and when she finds sanctuary with Mistral because of the women she has left behind. I like how strong willed she was. How much she wanted to get justice and rescue the women who were in her own position but left behind.
Mistral is also enjoyable to me. I liked his sense of justice, he desire to rescue/avenge the women of his race who are being trafficked. He has a great bunch of brothers, who are great characters in their own rights, and I loved seeing those dynamics on the page as well. He isn’t all hearts and flowers though, he’s a tough guy, who has lived a tough life, and carries scares both physically and emotionally. But when he is with Helena, he is great.
My biggest complaint with this book is I felt like it was a slow start for me. It didn’t grip my attention completely until about half way through and then the pacing picked up and I became a lot more invested in the characters and the situations. I also really started liking the side characters a lot by the time we get to the halfway point. I would definitely give another book by the author a try in the future.

Mistral

I wasn't as happy with this book as the last one. Part way through the book, the MMC said something that annoyed me and I never recovered my affection from him (or my respect for her) through the whole rest of the book. He and the MFC are having a very common conversation in this genre about how she wants to go with him to help rescue captive women. He, of course, does not want her to go. He says,

“Do you want to be selfish or do you really want to help?”

“If you go out there with me, you will occupy all of my attention,” I said. “I’m selfish, too, and if it came down to you or someone else, it wouldn’t be a choice at all. So if you think that you’re more important than the dozens of people we came here to save-”.

It's her fault he can't focus with her around? Wtf? I often think while reading these books that the ordinary Earth girl in the story does not need to go on the violent missions. I don't have a problem with that. But instead of selling how useful she is staying behind the “front lines” - she's a trauma nurse - he tells her she's selfish. Of course, his selfishness is because he loves her so much. Talk about condescending. And she just goes along with it.

There's a time later when he actually seems to have died and she has to live with that pain. And he had the nerve to accuse her of being selfish? For ages women have been at home waiting for men to come back from war only to find out they died. So the poor men can't stand to have the women in danger and yet the women are then supposed to carry on without the men no matter the grief.

Besides, why would anyone ever accuse someone of being selfish because they want to help save others? Did I mention she's a nurse? Talk about selfless. They are both equally disappointing - him for saying it and her for letting him get away with it.

I gave this story an extra star for Ember. He was awesome.

Gah, I am such a sucker for the ones who tend to walk the not quite straight and narrow with the hearts of gold. Those who would have possibly been called rascals and rakes in olden times. Probably why I love this series so much! The complicated hero always gets to me far more than any others. Add in a few scars and stoicism and you've got me! Mistral is just one such male (and I have a happy suspicion that all his brothers will be just the same) and you cannot help but love him. He tries his hardest to do the right thing even when it endangers himself and for all he scoffed at his brother Havoc finding his truemate (read their book it is fab too) he cannot help but also want what they have together. Enter Helena, a nurse who was taken from Earth and basically put into a meat market. Her now "owner" holds auctions and makes his money trafficking females. She considers herself a coward because she could not stop of the other human femals being beaten and this haunts her more than her own situation. The chance meeting with Mistral however brings about something she had never hoped to regain. Her freedom! She is understandably suspicious of his actions but when she finds out his mission she feels that she has to be a part of it. Will she go her own way when her roles is over and will Mistral be able to let her go too?

Second Book in the Rogues of the Zahari Series

This can be read as a stand alone book without affecting the story, although you will love Book one too.

Mistral is a Zathari male that is badly scarred with a bad attitude. He is basically a mercenary for hire with his brothers, but they are very selective about the jobs they take. His brother Storm calls him to rescue some women from a slaver that is supposedly selling Zathari women. He goes to investigate under cover and ends up buying one of his human slaves. He can’t seem to leave her with the creep even though he isn’t sure why.

Helena is a human that was abducted from earth and forced into slavery for an evil alien. When she finds out she is going to be sold at auction in a couple weeks she is horrified, but there is no way to escape. When Mistral buys her she is shocked but maybe she can use him somehow.

As the two of them get to know each other and Mistral says she can have her freedom once she tells him everything she knows about her master and the upcoming auction, she demands to help.

This book is fast paced with lots of action and the best and the worst of characters! Don’t miss it!!

This was one of the best sci-fi romances that I have read all year. The world building was deft and vibrant while also being organic and subtle. The characterization was amazing, with the heroine being deeply sympathetic, nuanced, and flawed. The hero was deliciously alpha while also being delightfully self-aware. I loved how protective he was of the heroine while trying never to cross one of her boundaries. There was plenty of action, danger, and political overtones to keep the stakes high and the pacing really quick. I read this novel in one sitting. The longer length of this novel was also really appreciated. The author gave this novel the time to fully develop the world, plot, characters, and relationship development between the hero and heroine. I loved the fact that these two fell for each other over the course of the novel in an organic way that took no shortcuts, even with the use of the Fated Mates trope. Excellent! I cannot wait to read the next book in this series when it releases.

Helena and several humans were kidnapped. They were given a translator to understand any alien languages. Arandon is a businessman that parades around his human slaves. He is advertising his merchandise for his auction.
Mistral is looking for however is selling Zathari women. He images it could even be his mother. She was kidnapped when he and his twin brother Viper was thirteen. At a meeting with Arandon, Mistral is struck by the beautiful Helena. He buys her instantly. He sets up to buy a Zathari woman too but it will have to be at the auction in several days.
Mistral later assures Helena that he will not hurt her. He will let her go and she can return home. But Helena wants to help free her fellow human friends. Mistral and Helena have chemistry that is off the chart.
They have a mission to complete with a HEA.

Mistral is part of a group that is searching for the criminals responsible for kidnapping and selling their Zathari females. At one location he sees Helena, a human that has been taken and is up for sale, and he buys her to protect her. Letting her know she is safe and can go back to Earth when it is over, she decides to help him rescue the human and Zathari women, using the inside knowledge she has. Mistral and Helena strike up a relationship that moves at a steady pace, getting stronger and they both grow in strength together. Loved the characters, their backstories and intense feelings. The storyline has drama, danger, big decisions, secrets, surprises, steam, rescues, retaliation, and much more. Totally kept my attention throughout and loved the ending as it all came together. Can not wait to read more of this group and the great worlds the author has designed.

Awesome action, characters, and sizzle

It's been awhile since I read something that was so excellent. I read alot, probably 10+ books a week, and I leave alot of reviews. Honesty is the best policy so here's feedback for this story--it's really great! The plot, writing, dialogue and characters are fantastic. The pace of the story flows smoothly, too.

Love love love the leads. Mistral and Helena are wonderful. A big smokin hot alpha with a heart of gold (mostly) gets the hard feels for a human trafficking victim who's way out of her depth, just trying to live another day. She's strong, beat down but ready to take a chance. She's the kind of female lead you want to be.

The action is terrific. A good bit of running, subterfuge, shooting, fast spaceship takeoffs, and rescues make this exciting. Speaking of action, the bedroom action is REOW.

And the romance is believable and heartfelt.

I am really impressed with this series. Can’t wait to read the next one.

I loved this book! Excellent story. It completely captivated me and I couldn't put it down. Great world building. I loved the characters. Mistral and Helena have such fantastic chemistry. Mistral is a mercenary for hire who goes undercover to assassinate a slave trafficker. He is drawn to Helena, a human slave he's parading around and buys her, intending to set her free. When Arandon invites him to a slave auction that may be selling females from his planet, he changes his mind in order to infiltrate the auction. He promises to set Helena free after she tells him everything she knows about Arandon and the slaves. But she wants to help him infiltrate the auction and rescue the other women. Fantastic story. I loved it even more than the first book. Well written and well paced. I highly recommend it. 5 stars.

Mistral and Helena's Story . . .

The Prologue in the story helps to set the reader’s expectations of a lawless Earth full of thugs and scoundrels. Mistral is a Zathari mercenary for hire following up on reports of a slaver selling Zathari women who need rescuing. When he goes undercover to investigate these rumors, he sees a terrified human slave being taken along by his target and he purchases her to get her away from the enemy.

Helena is the human from Earth whom Mistral rescued before she was sold at auction. He offers her freedom, but she instead wants to help him to free others. Her bravery impresses him when she asks to pretend to be his new “purchase” and her experience may be helpful in bringing them down. But the more time they spend together and get to know each other, will either be ready to go their separate ways when the mission ends?

4 1/2 Stars....Mistral is a Zathari mercenary who is looking into reports of a slaver selling Zathari women. When he goes undercover, he finds a terrified human slave being taken along by his target and he purchases her to rescue her. Helena is the woman Mistral rescued and when he offers her freedom, she instead wants to help him to free other captive women. As they work together, he is impressed with her bravery, beauty, intelligence, and strength, he slowly falls for her and her fro him. This book is well paced, full of action, drama, sizzle and steam. Page-turner from start to finish, this book and the rest of the Rogues of the Zathari are available to read for free with Kindle Unlimited. Great series.

Mistral (H) is a scarred Zathari male who's looking to help take down a trafficker of Zathari females. Helena (h) is a human who's being forced to work for a trafficker when Mistral meets her and its instant attraction. He finds himself buying her from the trafficker and in order to save her. There is a lot of non-stop action and adventure in this story as Mistral, Helena, and his friends work to bring down the trafficking operations and to rescue humans and Zathari females. The hot and steamy action between Mistral and Helena is pretty intense and erotic, including light bondage/rope play - MC action is consensual. There is a bit of violence, which is necessary for the storyline, as well as implied sexual assault and abuse.

Another awesome book from this author!

Whilst working undercover as a scum bag to try to find the entity trafficking females of his kind, Mistral, the male alien lead, sees Helena, the female human lead, and feels drawn to save her. Having saved her, she asks him to save her fellow slaves.

This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and an in-depth story with great character and relationship development, as well as much integration of secondary characters. I enjoyed the sensitivity characters had towards each other whilst still being effective against opponents. I also enjoyed the intimate scenes and laughed at the banter. REALLY glad I found this author and looking forward to more!

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary, honest review.

This is a new to me author that I will be reading again!!
I liked Helena she has some spunk to her that not all could have in her situation and mistral I was really curious as to his looks until we finally get the reason why and I just adore that he has a twin because I am a twin it was just a little aspect I loved! This has everything action, adventure, unexpected romance that turns to love and a unique story line in my opinion I hope to read more about this ragtag group of misfits..!
This was a pretty good sci-fi romance I liked it enough to check out her other books! It has good characters and good world building that draw you into the world.
Highly recommend read!!

I love when an author creates a nonexistent world that I could envision being plausible and want to be a part of; Rogues of the Zathari series is definitely one of them. The author does an excellent job of weaving world building and culture throughout the narrative. With each book we get a little bit more.

We learn in book 1 that Zathari women are being abducted into sexual slavery and this is their rescue with Mistral leading the way by infiltrating an auction and purchasing a human woman along the way both as cover and as a rescue. He plans to send her home but she wants to help him bring her captors down and she has inside knowledge that can help. He might also become quite smitten with her in the process.

Absolutely adore this series. The author blends dark + gritty with hope filled romance so well. I’ve also reviewed Havoc and Viper so feel free to check those out as well.

Fated mates // HEA // dual pov // found family // touch her and die // bondage kink // The plot centers around sex slaves (and their ultimate rescue) so please expect their abuse to make an appearance.

This book starts off with two chapters swapping, pov between the two main characters and boy does this author know how to set the scene! I especially loved Mistral's introduction, it was very tough guy sweet and that's exactly what he is, throughout the entire book.

There's action on every page, be it the steamy kind or the spy/mercenary agent kind. Without giving too much away, this book is about two unlikely people finding each other and working together to rescue many more.

I had a lot of fun reading this and was pretty much on the edge of my seat for the entire ride.

Helena wanted to escape from Earth, she never wanted to become a slave for some aliens. She wants to flee from her captors, but maybe luck has come her way, because Mistral crosses paths with her, and he wants to save her. I loved this alien and human romance, Mistral could scare anyone (but he has a beautiful heart), and Helena is courageous and knows how to survive. I loved both Mistral and Helena (and lots of the other friends/allies of them), the passion between them, and their wonderful story .

Exciting

Wow! What an exciting, scary, sexy romp in the stars. There’s a honorable but sketchy alien named Rogue who buys a captured human and falls in love. Helena had no idea that being purchased by this handsome alien would offer her so much more than her freedom. I enjoyed the characters and all of the action, but not the forced slavery aspects of it and seeing women objectified. The end was sweet and the retribution swift! I loved it. I received an ARC of this book but my review is voluntary.

Mistral and Helena are charismatic, funny, and full of steamy goodness. A lot of action everywhere they go, Adventure going to new places (Some nice places and some not so nice) and got to meet some new characters. It was all a great experience and I'm already amped up for the next one. If this sound like a book you would like, go ahead and buy/borrow it, you will not regret it.

I liked the story but there are triggers everywhere. Human heroine was kidnapped and is now a slave. The hero buys her in order to rescue her. Then they decide to take down an auction and rescue her friend from slavers.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

The hero's mother was kidnapped over 20 years ago and he is hoping to find her but accepts that his mom is likely dead.

The hero can hear the heroine in his thoughts and realizes she is his "starbond" mate.

Most enjoyable alien. romance/thriller

I loved this book. The sweet, protective bad-boy hero, the human sex slave he rescues and then turns into his accomplice, and their plotted rescue/revenge against sex traffickers was seamless, perfectly pitched, and a delight to read from cover to cover. This is a voluntary ARC review.

Mistral

Mistral loved fighting more than anything else, that is until Helena was presented to him. He bought her and now she’s going to die. Helena thinks she is going to die but soon learns she is free and Mistral is going to help the other women. Now if only everything goes right for saving so many. Highly recommend this book and series.

This book has the best of the worst, but it also has the worst of the best and there’s no comparison whatsoever. While it takes depravity to a new level, it inspires hope in those who fight against it. Given a chance, love can still bloom even in tense and dangerous circumstances.
