Drink It Up

Rate this book
Quinn Donovan is a single dad with too much on his plate. He is surrounded by his wild and crazy family at home and at work while raising two little girls who are the light of his life. When a complete stranger swoops in to help him when he needs it most only to then disappear without a word, it seems he’s lost his chance to get to know her. Luckily, another chance encounter might lead to a future he wasn’t sure he’d ever have.

Kyla Morgan has worked hard to get to a place in life where she can coast and enjoy the fruits of her labor. Unfortunately, celebrating how far she’s come isn’t much fun to do alone. Once she meets Quinn and his family, she’ll never have to worry about that again.

Welcome to Marlboro, Texas and the Donovan family in the first book of Cee Bowerman’s new series full of family, friends, and the happily ever afters they deserve.

Ok so. I did like this book. I’ve liked basically every book I’ve read from this author. But.
I’m now noticing a pattern with her series.
In my opinion, the first book of any of her series is sort of the worst of them. I’m not sure why that is, but it seems like she needs a book or two to really warm up and get into it fully.

This was a little rushed, for me.
We don’t get much relationship building or anything like that.
They meet. Kyla leaves without a goodbye. They happen upon each other again. Then their relationship just sort of falls together and they move very fast without much discussion.

Then of course theres an issue with Quinn’s ex and we finally get to see some conflict and some conversations.

The plot was good and interesting, I just wish more time was taken with it. There was some big skips in the timeline that we only got a few comments about.
The sex was steamy and sexy, but not my favorite and I wish there’d been more.
The characters were great. That’s always my favorite part from this author. But we really don’t get much from them.
The humor was there but, again, everything was sort of rushed so we don’t get as much as I was hoping for and expecting from this author.

It was good.
I just have a gut feeling that the next few books in the series will be ten times better.

drink it up, smoke it up, read it up

Hello again! We met again in my happy place- book land. Where all good things happen and typically end well; where people are respectful of others they are in a relationship with and take care of their kids/ well some characters do anyway. Quinn and Kayla are such characters, a great couple- and this makes sense considering they are wonderful people who consciously choose to come together and make a great life for themselves and their kids. They are both approaching 40, both have kids, fate keeps being them together, and who are they to fight fate?

This one was fun to read, no drama with the couple, just a crazy family that makes you wish you would be adopted in. I loved how both Quinn and Kyla were smitten and moved on the attraction, loved how more honest they were about things from the beginning. It was fun to see Kyla really like the girls and nurture them. The best was seeing Kyla get into lawyer mode when she needed to and how fierce Penni was despite her love of grapes. I very much look forward to reading more in this series.

I'm in love with the Donovan's! This new family is right up my alley, they love hard and they love fierce. I can't wait for future books in the series and in not even going to suggest who should be next as I'm sure I'll love them all! Loved all the movie references as well. Awesome job on the new series! Just read it!!

Quinn Donovan is a single dad running a bar. He has created a life surrounded by his family and is devoted to his girls, when he meets Kyla Morgan he is intrigued by the woman who lends a hand when he is short staffed. Kyla is a single mother getting a fresh start in Marlboro, Texas. When she meets Quinn again he asks her out and is delighted when she says yes. The chemistry is instant between Quinn and Kyla and even though thinks are going perfectly, a haunt from Quinn's past comes back and he could end up losing everything. Can Kyla stay by his side with all the drama swirling around them?

Loved this, I am sooo looking forward to Donovan stories. What a way to kick off a new series. Exceptional and I absolutely adored all the characters.

I seem to say that to every book Cee Bowerman writes, but they are a perfect combination of things needed in a good book, a great couple, Quinn and Kyla are extraordinary, they are mature, hard working and a lot of fun, suspense, there’s a lot of exciting things happening in this book, a group of lovable secondary characters, the Donovan clan and friends definitely fit bill and makes me excited to read more from them, a deep emotional connection, Quinn and Kyla not only have that with each other, they add the family and kids to it and that right there makes this book fantastic. That’s All the boxes ticked for an unforgettable read.

Well deserved 5*

Cee Bowerman's books will NEVER let you down if you're looking for a wonderful love story with H and h that are the right combo for eachother.

The first book in her new series featuring The Donovan family is no exception.

Quinn Donovan is a single dad raising two little girls when he meets Kyla Morgan. She's a single mom with a son on his way to his freshman year in college. Quinn and Kyla are HOT! Burning hot.

I loved Quinn's siblings and parents who all welcomed Kyla with open arms.

I truly enjoyed this read 📚! I gave this a 5* because the story had me in tears as well as made me laugh. I wish I knew a crew of people with their values!

An utterly delightful book. The witty bantering between Kyla and Quinn entrances the reader. The Donovan family - a mix of brothers and sisters who, might not share DNA but are family all the same.  Their quirks, habits, and personalities are made up of a lifetime of shared memories that give each of them individuality but make them all Donovans.

Of course, Kyla’s got some quirky friends in her corner that are her ride or die, and they’re more than happy to be added to the mix.  (You might recognise one of them from an appearance in a story from another series.)

Kyla and her sister Hannah are at a bar, seeing they’re grossly understaffed, she offers them her help bartending. Exiting, she realises her newly celebrated
18-year old son Thane, has been in an auto accident, driving to Dallas on his own in the middle of the night?

The accident had been so bad, they’d had to forcibly extract him, prying the door open.  He was currently in surgery to put his shattered leg back together.

“Kyla, baby, calm down,” my son’s father said softly like he used to back when we were together. It still pissed me off.  “He’s a grown man.”
“Number one, don’t f-g call me baby.  That ship sailed so many years ago, it’s already been decommissioned, number two, he’s been old enough to vote for approximately three months now, Gary. That doesn’t make him a grown man.  Number three, I need to hang up before I lose my sh*t and say something you’ll regret hearing.”
“Something I’ll regret hearing?”
“You know how you whine when I tell you how I really feel.  I’ll talk to you later.”
A selfish, immature a*shole that she’d been with for about six months 18 years ago.  He hadn’t matured at all since then, obviously.

Me: What do you call cheese that isn’t yours?
Kyla: I’m almost afraid to ask.  What?
Me: Nacho cheese!
Kyla: Sorry, but the number you have dialed has been disconnected.  Please lose this number and never call again.
Me: Come on.  It was funny.
Kyla: It was funny in the same way that a cramp in your big toe is funny. It’s a little irritating, but you get over it quickly.
Me: I could have just sent a text that said, ‘Send nudes.’
Kyla: I can just block your number, you know.  I’ll have to ask my kid how to do it, but I know it can be done.
Me: Are you still at work?
Kyla: No, I’m eating dinner in my car outside Home Depot.  What are you doing?
Me: Waiting for Colbie to finish her math homework and praying she doesn’t need my help.  Why are you eating outside of Home Depot?
Kyla: I’m going to look at Christmas decorations and probably spend too much money.  I figure if I’ve got a full stomach, I’ll get tired and be less likely to browse for hours. Who am I kidding?  I’ll be in there until they force me to the checkout and take my life savings.
Me: Christmas crazy, huh?
Kyla: If you tell me that you’re a grinch, I’m going to develop a horrible stomach virus two hours before our date on Saturday and pretend I don’t know you the next time I see you in public.
Me: Just tell me that you’re not going to put your Christmas tree up until after Thanksgiving, and we’ll be okay.
Kyla: I put my tree up yesterday.  That’s why I’m here shopping for more stuff.
Me: And now I’m going to block your number.  The turkey gets no respect from you, and that can’t be tolerated.
Kyla: I’ll respect that turkey all the way into my big mouth right along with all the trimmings and then some pie, but I’ll do it surrounded by my Christmas decorations.
Me: And I thought we could be friends.  How sad.
Kyla: What do I need to wear on Saturday?
Me: Clothes, I guess.  Or you could just be naked when I get there.  I’m sure I could come up with something to entertain us.
Kyla: I bet you could.  Really, though . . . What do I need to wear?  Should I dress up?  Go casual?  Give me a hint.
I put the phone down and looked at my daughter for a second while I was thinking about the date I had planned.  It had seemed like a great idea at the time, but I wasn’t so sure anymore.  I decided to run it by the boss and get her opinion on the matter.
“Hey, I’ve got a question.”
“Does it itch?  Do you need a doctor?”
“You’ve really got to stay away from whoever is turning you into such a smartass.”
“But you’d miss me.”
On Saturday, I was thinking about taking Kyla to this art class where they let you create your own canvas to take home.  There’s an instructor, and you can just hang out, eat some food, have a drink, and paint for a while.  What do you think?  Is that good for a first date?”
“Does the fact that I’m 10 and you’re asking my advice on dating not bother you?”
“Art class or not, heathen?”
“I think it sounds kind of cool.  Can we do it sometime?”
“If you hurry up with your math we could probably get in on the class she has at eight tonight.  I think this class is a tree with snow or something like that.”
“I’ll give you my opinion after we go tonight but it sounds like a good idea.”
“Okay.  We’ll do a test run, me and you, and then we’ll know.”
“I just have five more questions,” Colbie told me as she went back to work on the paper in front of her.
I picked up my phone and replied to Kyla’s last text.
Me: Let me get back to you tomorrow on what to wear.
Kyla: That works.  Enjoy your time with Colbie.
Me: Don’t fall into the marketing trap and buy all the Christmas stuff.
Kyla: Don’t tell me how to live my life.
Me: I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
Kyla: Merry Christmas!
I laughed softly as I closed out of the messaging app and went to check my email.  The lady was funny and smart.  Add those things to the fact that she was also drop-dead gorgeous and her laugh made my stomach flip. Hell, I was almost too far in already. She’d need to do something horrible pretty soon just so I could make sure she was real.
She did have at least one flaw, though.  That Christmas before Thanksgiving thing was almost a deal breaker.

Thane didn’t meet his father until he was about three and a half and only then because a judge ordered supervised visitation.  Gary didn’t really seem to care if he ever saw Thane, but his wife Janice tried to sue for full custody.  This was after she assaulted Kyla resulting in premature Labour. Kyla was young and trying to go to college for a business degree, raising Thane alone.  When Gary and Janice sued for custody, she’d exhausted her options for a lawyer willing to represent her.  Finally, this lawyer she spoke with recommended Penni.  That’s how they met and they’re now partners.

I loved this story!!! Quinn and Kyla make a great team. I also loved the fact that they were older therefore they know what they are willing to put up with and not - no bullshit. This is a close knit family and its evident from the start - right down to the living arrangements. Great bunch of characters but I expected nothing less as Cee Bowerman is excellent at character building, etc. I lol many times which is par for the course with Cee's books also. Looking forward to reading this series and finding out more about this crazy lovable family.

Main story was good

I enjoyed the story and love the set up. The main characters were great. There are plenty of great characters for future books in the series and even cousins for a huge series or a spinoff. I love makeshift families, or what people call found families these days.

The main issue I had is with the promiscuous secondary characters (a brother, his roommate, Penni, Louie, etc) that will likely be main characters in other books. I don't mind threesome relationships, but I do mind the way those two men treat and talk about women. I'm sure they'll have a book later on but I'll remember them being with the blonde from this book and that they're slutty, and it will ruin their book for me.

I also see a pattern in this author's books of characters who either don't want kids or have kids but don't want any with their HEA person. I see this happening occasionally, but a lot of her books are like this, and it's annoying. Promiscuity isn't cool or modern. It's just gross and not romantic or appropriate for romance books at all.

Quirkiness, laughter, tears, and orgasms. Grab yourself a shot and get into it!

A slight warning.... Be prepared to LAUGH!

Quinn is a single father to a couple of young girls, living in very close quarters with his family. Kayla shows up at his bar with her sister. Spotting Quinn in a tight spot, she jumps into help out.
Enter some pretty quirky people, a fart Halloween costume, and a famous football player. You have a good story. Add in two honey badgers for lawyers, you get an even better story. Double in the quick wit, funny lines, and the smarts of the girls, you get a great story!

*Quote from Quinn..... "They were jiggling"

outstanding

This is an entertaining story with characters I wanted to know. It’s a light hearted romance with cute kids, a loving Donovan family with only an ex causing issues. This story is so well written that it is reminiscent of the books I first read by this author. I think she must have really liked writing this one, it shows. Be prepared to laugh, get angry, laugh more, and fall in love with all the characters. I had a smile on my face practically the whole time. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger. Really hope we get more in this series soon. It’s a fantastic start to the Donovan Series.

A new family series to love

The Donovan's are the family you wish was yours. Quinn is the oldest sibling. He met Kyla at his bar. They were swamped she was a customer and saw they were short handed and pitched right in. They both have great work ethics and love their children. Kyla has a son, Quinn has two girls. Kyla is close to Penni and her son Louie they are her non blood family. This is a great story. If you love to laugh and enjoy steamy romance this is a must read. Cee is my favorite author. The way she tells a story and keeps you hooked to the end and leaves you wanting more. Thank goodness this is a series. Thank you Cee for another great book.

I'm loved the Texas series...

But I am going to adore this one! You kept me laughing from start to finish, Ms. Cee Cee!
The Donovan's are crazy, real, and totally lovable!
Kyla landed in the right place with her partner and friend to open their firms!
Quinn, was perfect for Kyla, no more children, two lovely young girls to compliment Kyla's son, and 7 bothers and sisters plus his parents to make everything just right, just right crazy!
Best line, when Kyla tells Quinn, " of course I love you, dumbaxx,..)
I cannot wait to move to the second novel, and based on previous experience with your writing...
Laughter will happen!
Thank you for brightening my day!

Loved!

I just finished reading "Drink it Up" by Cee Bowerman, and I have to say, it was such a delightful romance! The characters felt so real, their chemistry was electric, and I found myself rooting for them from the very first page. The way Bowerman weaves their love story with relatable moments and charming dialogue makes you feel like you're right there with them.

What I really loved was how the book balances lighthearted elements with deeper emotions. The pacing kept me engaged, and I couldn’t put it down, wanting to see how everything would unfold. If you’re looking for a sweet and heartwarming story that will make you smile, I definitely recommend picking this one up!

An alright quick read. I liked the whole set-up... the apartments... the very extended family and their closeness.

There are elements that don't float my boat tho... for example, two of the men who like to share their 'toys'... don't like women being referred to as toys... women are sentient beings who are capable of making a choice... not objects to be played with and then tossed aside when the player(s) are bored. I may be wrong... but, that is the impression I got... and the impression left? Not great.

If I had to sum up Quinn and Kyla's book in one word, it would be glorious! Quinn's large family is full of unique characters that manage to actually feel like they have known each other since birth and still love one another. When Quinn meets Kyla, it feels so right. They fit together so perfectly with Kyla and her son being welcomed into his family, like they have always been there. Fun and funny, sweet and sexy, I cannot wait for more Donovans! 6 stars for Kyla and Quinn!

Donovans

A fantastic new family by a wonderful author! The first book in the Donovans was everything I have come to know and love from a Cee Bowerman book. I love the way the characters interact and I love the new family we are introduced to. Quinn and Kyla are a perfect couple and I enjoyed them finding their HEA. A definite hit! Looking forward to the next book in the series. Thank you for your stories!

Quinn & Kyra

I’m in love. With this whole new world from Cee Bowerman. I never doubted for a moment that it would be amazing and it totally delivered. I was enraptured from the very first page. I couldn’t put the book down. I am so excited by the prospect of all the books yet to come in this series.

Quinn and Kyra are just so natural and effortless. They work. They aren’t perfect and don’t pretend to be. I love their story!!

New Series, New Family to fall in love with!

I was a little worried going in because I loved the authors MC books so wasn’t sure how I would love a small town, big family new series! I should not have worried! I love Quinn and his family and Kyla. There wasn’t the same old tired romance arc like so many other romance books. This couple was sold and storm right from the beginning! Great start to the series and can’t wait for more!

Ok

Not my favorite of this authors books, but it did have things I enjoyed. I liked the characters being over 30. I liked that the town and how the family is set up(living arrangements), the kids were cute. I just thought the chemistry wasn't there with the mcs. It was insta love but it didn't catch me. I will continue to read the series though and hope I will get emotionally attached and stuff.

Another crazy awesome family!

Meet the Donovan’s; a crazy, hard loving family with their just as crazy friends. Kyla and Quinn are perfect together and manage to overcome the little bumps in the road (crazy ex-wife and dysfunctional family) to find their happy ever after with a little angst, a little steam and some good laughs. Cee makes you a part of the family and anxiously await the next adventure. In the words of Kyla, “of course I love you dumbass”.

A good beginning to a new series. The story is very much a insta love story, a couple that became a couple quickly, but this author does that well. There's a lot of me characters in this story and it felt a little chaotic and a tad bit hard to follow at times (which is the main reason one of my favorite authors would even lose a star at all). I do look forward to reading the stories of all these siblings though. Hoping that Lana and Clay get a second chance romance out of it.

Great start to a new series

What a wonderful start to a new series! While I love everything Cee Bowerma it’s nice to see a new family and in a new setting. Quinn and Kyla were just everything you’ll want in a Cee Bowerman heroine and hero. It was an insta-love story with two strong individuals. There were a lot of people we were introduced to quickly and it was hard to keep track of everyone but otherwise a great start to a new series.
