Couples are found dead in their wealthy homes in suburban Los Angeles, with seemingly nothing to connect them. As Jessie dives deep into this wealthy town, she comes to realize an awful truth: this killer is far too ordinary. He is right in the midst of this suburban town, hiding in plain sight, ready to strike again. Which makes him the most dangerous killer of all.

Okay story I suppose, but I REALLY REALLY REALLLLLLY do NOT “get” the covers the authors continues to choose for their stories in this series. I often do not even “get” the title either. It’s really off putting to me & I def consider myself pretty diff to offend or whatnot. It (the weird unrelated covers) just squicks me out or something. I’m just weird probably :) I know I know: no judging a book by its cover, right?! :)
Jessie Hunt and her fiance Ryan Hernandez are asked to head to Peninsula resort in Palos Verdes by their boss Captain Decker but find out that his boss Chief Laird had asked that they head over to the Spa because this wealthy philanthropist one Scott Newhouse was found dead in the men's steam room and they needed to find out if it was a murder, suicide or just accidental. Jesssie and Ryan are able to go without worrying about her sister Hannah because she has been checked into Seasons Wellness Center when her and Jessie's pyschiatrist Dr. Lemmon had suggested that she needed help so Ryan and Jessie didn't have to worry about what was going on with her, at least for the moment. So Ryan and Jessie still have a problem between them and it has to do with where they were going to get married and what type of wedding they were going to have. Ryan wants a large wedding like Jessie had before when she married to her sciopathic ex husband, now deceased. Jessie wanted a small intimate wedding and she doesn't understand why Ryan is not hearing her and insisting on having a large wedding, there is a break down in communication on this so we know this has to be cleared up sooner or later. Ryan and Jessie begin another case of what happened to this wealthy man and what and who caused his death. As always Blake Pierce I love Jessie Hunt Psychological Thriller and all the Suspense Thrillers she writes. Good read and I highly recommend this book.
The case in this story, although putting a lot of pressure on Jessie and Ryan, seemed to be easy to solve - there was doubt whether the deceased committed suicide or if he was murdered in the sauna. The difficult part, in the beginning, seemed to be how to act according to the timetable defined by the Police Chief of Southern California. The deceased and his wife, plus 2 couples of friends had gone to the spa to reconnect and have time for themselves, all of them very rich and hard workers. Was it really murder? Was it connected to the stolen items? Was it the same person? As the investigation proceeds, details relating to the couples' relationship emerge. Was one of them the culprit and why? Reaching the solution almost by accident, Jessie and Ryan still have to face the killer who had the chance to evade the spa. Will they be able to put them behind bars? At the same time, Jessie's sister, Hannah, is having problems at the clinic she is receiving treatment and an old "friend" is targeting Jessie again! Looking forward to book #20! As a member of the author's ARC team, I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Every time I begin another of the Jessie Hunt series, I do so reluctantly, because surely, by book 19, the series should be winding up. I think this is the last one. I'm over it. I'm done. Only to find myself (once the obligatory standard 1st 3 chapters are done), caught up in an entertaining mystery.
This one delivers, and is a compelling detective story that ticks all the right boxes.
Blake Pierce has the formula for Jessie Hunt books down, but at least still manages to deliver a good story with the type of consistency that leaves me pre-ordering the next book. But seriously, I refuse to read anything after book 21. I think this series has wrung out all the juice it can from Jessie Hunt, although ****SPOILER ALERT**** I am pretty sure that now Blake Pierce is just trying to set up a spin off series with Hannah.
3 couples go away to a luxury resort to work on their marriages. A husband is found dead of suicide. Jessie Hunt is called to help solve the crime. While investigating the crime, she finds out the resort also has a VIP section that caters to the guests sexually desires. Jessie is also dealing with her sister been sent to live at a facility to help her deal with her demons. Jessie is also dealing with tension in her romantic life with her fiancé wanting a large wedding even after she keeps telling him she doesn’t want a big wedding. Things are noticeably unpleasant between them. But she is able to work the case and uncover the killer and solve the crime.
I liked this book a lot more than the other ones. Although I didn't love the Cove scene and don't know why the author has to include something sketchy in each book, I loved this book's setting and the plot. I loved that Kat, Ryan and Jessie were working together. I don't get the plot yet with Hannah and if that will connect with the other female criminals and their plots, but Pierce is definitely dragging the series on.
The wealthy with the money for securities, spa resorts are finding a killer among them. Everything seemed to be perfect, Jessie digging below to find out the hidden reason murder happened An excellent thriller that is a must to read and will enjoy. Given ARC. for my voluntary review and my honest option
These books have been good enough to keep my attention for this long but why do the covers have to look like I'm reading erotica? So far, although some of the cases have involved crimes dealing with sex there have literally been no sex scenes. Are these covers supposed to entice a person to pick the book up? I don't know.
Great book that keeps the suspense going! Intimate moments with each character that makes you feel a deeper connection to them and between them. What will happen with Hannah? Will Jessie and Ryan continue to be able to talk through their issues?
Blake Pierce has created my most favorite detective, Jessie Hunt! I'm incredibly drawn to each book. Her entire life is so compelling to the reader. Each book is a page turned that can't be long town Bill you're finished.
Was it a murder or was it a suicide? Jessie Hunt takes us on the journey to find out. In a thrilling ending, we seemingly figure out the answer. This was my first Jessie Hunt series book and am interested in reading more.
Another nail biting Jessie Hunt saga that left you guessing till the end. And just when Jessie and Ryan, her partner capture their prey and think they are done - the chaos and real danger are about to start.
This Book 20 for me. I love the story lines. However, the narrators are terrible. The stop and go narration is so annoying. I know people who have stopped reading these books because of the narration.
I’m trying to finish this series but the last few have been disappointing.. I’m literally only still reading to see what happens to the main characters !!
