Mark Russell is the author of God Is Disappointed in You and Apocrypha Now. He also writes the comic book series Prez and The Flintstones for DC Comics. He lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
Bound to Our Will (5 of 6): This is just so, so bad. Awful dialogue, awkward tone, and the art's all over the place. Not bad, but not consistent and it often undermines the story. Overall a very bad arc that keeps getting worse. I cannot wait for this to end. It feels like I'm reading some middle-schooler's Batman/Zatanna/Constantine fanfiction and I would very much like it to stop. The whole "Reviver" nonsense is just embarrassing.
Bending the Rules: Solid enough read.
Memory Lane (2 of 3): Simply abysmal.
Hounded (5 of 6): It's amazing just how good this story is when the rest of Urban Legends doesn't even strive to reach the bottom of the barrel. Pretty much the ONLY reason to read this book at this point.

Easily one of Urban Legends' worst issues. When half your book is awful, a quarter is just okay, and only the last quarter is actually good, you've got a serious problem. 2 Stars for Hounded alone. Otherwise it's an easy 1.
The first story about Batman and Zatanna continues to be trash, the second story about Batman and Plastic Man was both cute and ultimately full of redemption - or at least the possibility of it, I can live with or without the story about this Birds of Prey team, while the story about Ace is what I'm living for: as Ace keeps tracking down his owner, he confronts defeat and loss, while Batman is about to be auctioned off to a supervillain, thus promising exposure of his identity.
Except, a new snag leads to an eleventh confrontation with an unexpected partner as proof that Batman is, indeed, Batman and not just some dude in a mask.
I think I'm ready for these stories to be done with and replaced with some new ones. With the exception of Mark Russell's Bat Hound story, the rest are pretty mediocre offerings.
