The Clone Kid: An allegory

Rate this book
Is Cloning people is wrong. It’s forbidden by law. No responsible scientist would dream of trying it … or would they?

In this fictional but frank account of Sydney’s medical profession, Caroline de Costa explores the possibilities, risks and implications of human reproductive cloning, with the reminder that though the techniques may currently be banned, the technology to develop human cloning is already right here — in a lab not far from you.

Picked up the paperback at my local library after earlier reading the author's memoir of her career as an O&G. The style is a fellow doctor reporting on the "real-life story" of two doctor colleagues who introduced cloning. This is a great way to introduce the topic of cloning to people who don't know anything about it. It does sound frighteningly close and real. I particularly enjoyed the TV panel discussion with all the experts having their predictable points of view - it sounded exactly like real life. It did make me think about all the arguments for and against. Also a good book about parenting. As a Sydneysider, I also enjoyed the Sydney settings and the Olympics timing. 4 stars for writing about the cloning topic in a readable way.

I found this interesting and humorous. I liked reading about the glittering Sydney setting, the cars, the glamorous life infected by a change in values that came with success.
