Another dish of comfort food, served to us by Jamey Moody. As is her habit, Jamey tells a story of 2 lovely MCs who love each other and want to be together, and their trust and faith in each other are what make all the difference. The support of their families is important to them and the whole book just radiates warmth, acceptance, and love of one’s family and hometown.
The main hurdle in the MC’s path to happiness is usually some kind of conflict. In this book, there’s no conflict. There’s a young daughter, accepting parents, and even a church that accepts the new couple. So what’s stopping them from being happy?
Well, as a secular person I must admit that I found it hard to relate to this conflict but I understood it mentally. The thing is, the MC’s dad preaches in a local church and she’s always been extremely aware of his leading position in the community. Her coming out and her desire to get married in her dad’s church pose a problem as her dad’s church does not accept same-sex marriage.
The MCs take an opportunity to try and change the situation and the minds of the people around them. They strive for change but also accept their limited impact on the community. It’s heart-warming to see them learn to work for change, accept that which they can’t change, and understand when to move on. Watching them make a new path for themselves and their families will melt your heart. The future is full of hope (justifiedly so, as the epilogue proves) but the path to that future is paved with lots of faith (in God and in people), acceptance, and the love of a family.
As I said, I found it hard to relate to the religious conflict and that's why it's 4 stars instead of 5.
