A brilliant surgeon. A master sculptor. The media touted Dr. Potter as a savior dressed in a crisp suit. I think he’s a vicious madman of jerk-sized proportions. But fate is a wicked tease.

Only Dr. Potter can give me what I need. A fresh start. A new identity. But he refused, leaving me to take matters into my own hands by accepting a job as his partner’s new secretary.

Dr. Potter can’t turn down my case forever. Or at least I thought so until I uncovered Dr. Potter’s secret. A secret, which came with a venomous warning...one that destroyed everything.

Vance and Halle's story is absolutely beautiful! It's an emotional romance full of healing, acceptance, forgiveness, and hope. The characters are complex, and the spice is amazing. If you're fan of Kristy's work, you do not want to miss out on this one!

Side note: Remington deserves a special mention. His relationship with Vance and Halle is one of the best things about this book as far as I'm concerned. He's already one of my favorite characters this author has ever written, and we don't even have his story yet. My love for him is second only to Theo, and if you know how obsessed I am with Theo, you know that's saying a lot.

****AVAILABLE NOW - KINDLEUNLIMITED****

This book has everything I love - broken heroes, heroines who save them, and Kristy’s quirky humor.

But what always pushes a book over the edge from like to love, for me, is the themes inside of it. Kristy tackles some heavy topics, such as perfection and forgiveness. The way these two love each other, change each other, heal their scars is PERFECTION.

As an added bonus, the steam was impeccable! Hey, I still like to have good smut with my romances. I will not apologize for it.

There is so much I could say about this one but I just need you to read it. I’m absolutely in love with Halle and the whole Potter crew.

Putting this author on my list of no-go. There’s no point in reading a great premise with zero development before a sudden exit to HEAville. I can do that alone, minus the four-hour read, and in one line: Once upon a time, two fucked up characters met, ate, argued, and fucked their way to togetherness being the answer to all the world’s problems, including guilt and forgiveness, before riding off into the sunset.

Now, I’ll tell you the author’s version of that…

SO IT BEGINS

FMC trauma victim wants a surgery to repair her scars. MMC surgeon declines her case. The argument is OTT enough to make the FMC appear equal measures quirky, pitiful, hardheaded, sweet, and nuts. Doc has a ‘secret past’ as to why he has fallen from surgeon king to asshole refusing to do surgery. Cue his two brothers seeing the FMC as an annoyance to push the doc back into surgery. Bros hire FMC to work at the office.

BORING AF

Once the setup is established in the first few chapters, this turns into 💤 fest.

Delivery is like watching paint dry. It’s the same exact push and pull scene on a loop of mundane. Day after day, they fight about some nothingness., and the result is nothingness. Nothing is accomplished. There’s no character or plot progression. It’s just wasted time.

Finally, time appears to wear the storyline and characters down to the MMC confessing why he won’t do surgery ever again. Thus begins this story going from boring to irritating.

ANTICLIMACTIC IN ALL WAYS

Keeping in mind that the author prefaces by saying that she took great liberties with the legalities and medical accuracies here, I won’t address that aspect other than to say that research is NOT that hard. Every medical aspect could’ve been researched to offer plausibility and accuracy. So, I appreciate the author’s warning, but it doesn’t speak to someone who’s truly passionate about her craft. Sorry, not sorry~

Anyhoo, the confession of why he has become an incompetent, unprofessional asshole unable to do his job ….. yeah, that was lackluster. Tragic - yes. Hyperbole of guilt - yes. BUT, the kicker is how it’s delivered, received, and dismissed as the centerpiece of this plot.

This ‘secret’ is the crux of the book. Yet, it’s told, received, and dismissed in an instant.

He believes his mistake is final. “So, that’s all you get? One fuckup?”

I wrap my arms around his shoulders. This man needs a serious hug.

The FMC’s response irritated me. The essence of a mistake is making a wrong move when a better move, a right move exists. That universal meaning doesn’t change just because this is fiction, or at least no more than a window is a window in a book or a pen is a pen in a book.

From both a medical, laws of nature, and personal perspective…. Nothing about his tragic big secret was a mistake. Thus, this is a story about perception, not facts. Instead of emotional development surrounding that perception, melding it, and offering a storyline from its vein… it’s glazed over and buried in boring scenes just to pass time.

For 64% of the book, she has been waiting to find out his why. For over a year, he’s let this secret wreck him. So, when it’s told, talked about for five seconds before they peacefully spoon the night away, and then her awakening thoughts are this….

I remember our food preference conversation. I can’t believe Vance doesn’t eat chicken. He must be an alien.

🚫 Yeah, I’d call the entire thing anticlimactic. A hug, spoon, and wake up to thought of chicken… not his entire fucking life being destroyed by guilt. *blinks*

My point is that if the story, characters, and (de facto) author don’t care about the central plot point more than a chicken sandwich, why would I possibly care about it?

WHY SO PISSY, ASHLEY?

Ehhh, it’s a book, but the subject matter within a book still brings readers along on a thought process. These messages are like smoke signals within the fabric of the book. It’s up to the reader to a) notice them b) care to analyze them c) develop their own reader-unique meaning behind it.

The author can’t decide if this guilt is something of importance or not. One minute, it’s so important as to be a wrecking ball…. the next moment, a chicken sandwich is more important.

I hated the parallel of her forgiveness over her trauma to him forgiving himself. Apples and oranges.

This author and I are on two different pages, but my rating is more than a reflection of disagreement.

I HATE FUCKING HYPOCRISY

THE FMC starts out as someone readers can empathize with and respect. That erodes with each chapter and dies in a grave of hypocrisy:

”Which, I wish she would. I’d love to pop her around a little and show her how it feels. It’s not like I don’t understand what she’s going through, I do. But no emotion, not even grief, warrants putting your hands on someone. …..” “Though, I can get rowdy if she decides to put her hands on him again.

Context: A woman at the center of the MMC’s secret slapped him, and the FMC had all intentions to return it if she wouldn’t have been restrained by his brother.

Problem: 🚨I f’ing hate a double standard hypocrite. “No emotion” warrants putting your hands on someone. Yet, the FMC is apparently the special snowflake ❄️ exempt from her own damn rules. Her anger means it’s a-okay to retaliate by putting her hands on someone for something not even done to her. Get the fuck outta here with that BS.

But, it gets better…

I didn’t see her slap coming, but I wholeheartedly deserved it. “You’re a bastard.”

❄️ 👀^^ Yep, that would be our FMC slapping the MMC at 88% because he said something that hurt her.

And, she’s not done…

She nods. “I might have gotten fired for punching my producer in the face.”

❄️ 👀 Special snowflake.

PLOT ASS-SIGN-ATION

The FMC has had a total hip replacement. She can’t even carry a box of papers. Bumps a door and falls down in pain. Arthritis. It’s a big deal… well, until it isn’t…

🤣🙄🤣🙄

In one fluid motion, I scoop Halle into my arms and toss her onto the bed, her tits bouncing as she hits the mattress with a gasp.

👀So, that didn’t hurt?

Grabbing Halle’s ankles, I yank her to the edge of the bed, reveling in her sudden gasp. “You see, Ms. Belle,” I mind her hips and flip her over so she’s face down on the mattress.

👀Uh, how the fuck do you mind someone’s hips when you flip them over by the ankle?

I push her dress up over her hips and place a kiss on the cotton underwear I’m about to ruin, “—or out.” The sound of ripping fabric is so satisfying that I moan when her bare ass cheeks come into view.

👀How the fuck do you rip someone’s underwear off, across fucking scars mind you, and it not eat into said scars and jar the fuck out of the hips that are so painful she has trouble with walking up steps?

“Is this comfortable?” With a total hip replacement, I want to be mindful of the position I put her in. On her side has the least impact.

👁Ah, so, now, we need to be careful after all the twisting, pulling, yanking, bending, tilting, spanking, squatting, etc…. I see, said the blind mind to the deaf man. 👨‍🦯

TO CRINGE OR LAUGH

“Oh, gosh,” Halle moans, “this is sooo not bad dick.” Inhaling, I choke, her random outburst catching me off guard. “You were expecting bad?” She shakes her head, a faint smile appearing. “I wasn’t expecting such… fullness.”

🧠I’ll just leave this here and let you decide if the first push in of the first actual sex scene is hot or not. Personally, I cringed.

RANDOMNESS

I’m not sure if this is the author’s stab at humor or attempting to make the word count, but this book is full of these random awkward scenes that left me looking around my RL reading space as a pinch to my sanity….

🃏“I hope you brushed your teeth.” I pause towel-drying my hair and arch a brow at the naked woman in my bed. “Come again?” She grins, getting up, her tits bouncing with the motion, and grabs my hand. “I’m just saying pussy and garlic spaghetti is a bad combination.” “We’ve crossed a line with this conversation.” I shake my head, letting her pull me onto the bed. “Don’t be embarrassed, Vance. Even esteemed doctors can have bad breath. It’s nothing to ashamed of.” She takes the towel from me and looks longingly at my dick that she rode on the bathroom counter prior to my shower, which is where she had to come up with this whole bad breath thing. I narrow my eyes. “I brushed my teeth—prior to you sucking me off, actually.” We’re seriously having a bad breath discussion. “I’m teasing.” She pops me with the towel before climbing on the bed and settling onto my lap, facing me. “But seriously, are you ever insecure?” She places the towel on my head and takes over drying my hair, which feels absolutely incredible. 🃏

🦷 Now, is this scene just striking me as Twilight Zone? Who the fuck would let that line out of their mouth: “I’m just saying pussy and garlic spaghetti is a bad combination.” 😳 This is the moment, if I were a man, that my self esteem and I would have a race to see who exits faster. 🏃‍♂️

WRITING

Dull. Flat. No feeling. Boring. Storyline and emotional dialogue has all the weight of a feather. Moments intended to be at the top of the arcs have no distinguishing qualities. It’s all monochromes. ⬜️ The story has no soul. The character’s emotions are nonexistent.

When the FMC tells her story, for example, I feel nothing. It’s like I’m reading that she’s taking a painful shit and needs a roll of toilet paper. This alone is reason for my rating. If I’m emotionless about reading her body being crushed, then what hope does any other element of the story have?

🔇Transitions are like running into a brick wall. Characters are in one place, one mindset, one setting, one scene…. Next paragraph, they’re completely somewhere else with no metaphorical period from the latter.

🔇Pacing is jerky. Scenes go on and on forever to the point of 🥱 before slamming on breaks or slamming the gas. Most scenes are like hanging chads… words and actions left incomplete.

🔇Character development is like a kiddy pool with a couple of drops of rainwater in it.

🔇Plot is this message of guilt and forgiveness that hangs like a dusty curtain over the story until it’s simply washed and rehung as the same shit… albeit less dusty for the moment.

I JUST DIDN’T GET IT

The plot development, if that’s what you’d call this, just didn’t resonate with me. I didn’t get the guilt. I didn’t get the response. And, I damn sure didn’t get the progression to resolve.

Fucking on the OR table while musing about being “a potter” just felt like day-old oatmeal, not some healing moment within a distraction. Unappealing AF. While the characters are going on and on and on about how monumental the OR fuck scene is to them, I’m just wondering WTF I didn’t DNF this back at the secret reveal.

The answer to that question is the minds’ quest for meaning. Guilt and trauma destroy lives in equal measurements from different vessels. The author’s version of telling that story hit every wrong nerve with me, and I kept reading hoping she could soothe it by taking the story to a conclusion I’d agree with - different paths to the same destination. Didn’t happen.

“No. I don’t want any IV pain meds.” The last thing I want is for Vance to relive his trauma by sedating me with medication and worrying if I’ll code like Logan. I can’t undo all the progress he’s made. Besides, the pain is bearable right now.

^^^ This is what I mean. This doesn’t undo misconceptions and false beliefs of blame and guilt. No, it’s props them up like crutches. Ignoring the injury and focusing on the movement despite it. Keep the false belief so long as you’re still productive whilst believing it, then the outcome is all that matters.

I’ve read plenty of stories where I didn’t agree with the message, the point, the takeaway, the delivery, etc, and I could separate my opposing view from the book fulfilling its purpose of taking the reader on THE AUTHOR’s journey. This isn’t that case. The author didn’t take me on a journey. She simply presented a problem; allowed it to marinate in mundane melodrama; and carelessly, and with no reasonable explanation, spit out nonsense as the solution….

At any moment, I could fuck up and unintentionally harm a patient. I could change their lives in a way they never imagined. Just like I did Logan and Calista’s. Doing more surgeries hasn’t changed that fact. What has changed, though, is coming home to someone so full of life that it completely distracts me from the present chaos.

💱That’s what the author calls resolve. 💱

The so called mistake is one that isn’t a mistake but becomes a mistake after the fact. Doctors aren’t fortune tellers, they’re odd-makers. There’s a prediction, and the odds of that prediction being right. The MMC didn’t learn that, though. He learned nothing, actually. He should’ve learned that his personality can’t handle the odds of losing a patient, especially one he knows personally. Instead, he puts himself in the exact same predicament again - risking the unknown causing him to lose a patient he shouldn’t have to begin with. This tells me that he begins this story and ends it in the place, and that (book theory) it happens again - he will destruct again. So, what’s the point of the reader taking that frivolous journey with him? None.

^ That’s the caveat between great books and horrible ones. At the end of a great book’s plot arc, the reader knows the character grew and has faith that they wouldn’t read the same hypothetical book again in the character’s future.

Anyhoo…

By 86%, the FMC getting what she wanted - surgery - and leaving is the new focus of the shit show. I’m too tired at this point to give AF. Suffice to say:

🔕Him: Even if it wasn’t, if Halle ever found out what was said at today’s deposition, she’d leave me without hesitation. Suspecting you love a monster is different from knowing you love a monster. Who am I kidding? Halle doesn’t love me. All of this—the job, the surgery, the recovery—was all so she could move on with her life. She never planned on staying in Texas. I’m merely a pitstop on the road to a new her.

🔕Her: Follow my heart. Is that what I want to do? Stay here with Vance instead of head to California?

🔉Me: 🙄 Is this really where we are at given it’s 86% in the book.

Anyhoo…

In a few percentage ticks later , we have the MMC pushing the FMC out the door. Six month separation at 90%. We have the lawsuit over the big secret being settled… as in the woman suing him to close his practice and his license settles for money. Uhm, okay, that kinda negates the entire backstory if she’s settling for money verses what she feels is just and revengeful, but, at this point, the plot holes 🕳 are so fucking plentiful and deep that there’s all but NO STORYLINE left. So WTF ever. The resolve here is laughable. Two years this fumed. Two seconds and a joke was all it took to right a sunk ship? 🕳I can’t even🕳 .

At least he grovels at end for his HEA.

THE ONE REDEEMING INGREDIENT

Remington has decided that surgeons get plenty of pussy, and he wants in on this scam. His words, not mine.

The kid, Remington, was the only bright spot.

THE EPILOGUE

🌹 IF this had been a different story attached to that epilogue, I would have swooned. How the fuck can a book have EVERY single wrong ingredient and spit out an epilogue with all the right ingredients? I dont know?

THE COVER

Does that disheveled cover guy with rings look anything like a “crisp-suit,”control freak, ‘everyone must wear a black jumpsuit to work’ plastic surgeon? *shakes head* “Madman” ? Didn’t get that either. Drunk? Sure. Madman? No.

OVERALL

🚧 Some books are just a personal disagreement between author and writer.

🚧 Some books have logistic problems that misalign from the standard of logic and believability that set the bar to distinguish a fantasy fiction from a contemporary fiction.

🚧 Some books have reader-centric issues with flow, pace, development, etc that impact each readers’ own personal enjoyment.

This is one of those books that ☑️ all the above boxes.

"This was supposed to be a release. A bandage for the ache. But now, as she holds my face, with our noses pressed together, I let her watch as she tears down the barrier between us, her body taking my demons and burying them inside."

This earns its 5 stars for being so BINGEABLE and unpredictable that I completely lost track of time while reading. I sat down with it at seven at night, then OOPS, it was one in the morning, lol. I really had no idea what to expect from the story, and that had me hooked in a way that was a little addicting. The dynamic is TENSE, sexy, banter-filled, and slightly outlandish. "Dramedy" sounds about right, because it's sort of got enemies to lovers vibes and it tackles heavier subjects, but there's a lot that feels like a rom com. It opens with a statement saying that the story takes many liberties with both the law and the field of medicine, and... yeah, that checks out. This isn't your typical doctor's office, the typical (almost) boss/employee dynamic, and it's certainly not the way I'd let any of my doctors treat me. But the story is undeniably compelling, and it feels like the start of a brand new series of interconnected standalones.

The story follows Halle (23), a woman who has spent the last few years working towards one goal: getting healthy (and wealthy) enough for Dr. Potter (35) to perform surgery that will put the past behind her. An aspiring actress, Halle's dreams were taken from her when an accident left her severely scarred, and she wants the esteemed surgeon to smooth out the rough edges of her life. But the man she meets is nothing like the selfless surgeon Halle envisioned; he's cold, bitter, and refuses to treat her without explaining why. Unfortunately for Dr. Potter, Halle has no intention of taking no for an answer, so she soon finds herself working for his brother, another surgeon in the office. Seeing each other every day makes the two realize that there's something sizzling beneath the surface, and they might need to put each other's broken pieces back together if they want to move forward themselves.

This definitely has a very different vibe than the last few books I read by Marie, but I was all too happy to go along for the ride. Dr. Potter is more of a jerk than a grump, but it's easy to see that he's hurting too - even doctors need to heal sometimes. Paired with the ever-optimistic Halle, they were sexual tension-fueled FIRE, and I loved the opposites attract dynamic. The steam was a little more intense than expected, as this doctor doesn't give up control easily. That's probably the only place where this wasn't a total win for me; personal preference left me slightly uncomfortable with a few of the situations. That pales in comparison to my enjoyment of the rest of the book though, which was immensely compelling in its uniqueness. I've never read a romance quite like it, and that is always a major plus. Here's hoping we get more of Dr. Potter's brothers, who seem to have their own tortured pasts - I'm both nervous and excited for their stories, lol. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this forbidden romance.

Dr. Vance Potter.
Releasing March 17th, 2022

I am continuously amazed at the level of writing that Ms. Marie puts out. I fell in love (hardcore) with the Commandeer in Briefs series and have since become a must-read author since then. Her writing style, flow, humor, and character development (personalities) are top-notch.

Dr. Vance Potter and Halle Belle are our main characters, and they are magical together. I am completely blown away! I fell in love with these two as well as the secondary characters, Astor, Duke, and Remington.

Vance is a broody genius with a mega-dose of a**h0le thrown in and let me tell you, I am here for ALL of it! He is so wickedly delicious that if hard-pressed, I would say he is in the top three of Kristy Marie’s H.

Halle was a breath of fresh air. From her southern belle accent, small-town farm upbringing, sassiness, sarcastic, yet sweet nature, she will win you over.

Ok, buttercups, be prepared to feel all the feels. To laugh, to cry, to be shocked, but also feel the power of love as its healing properties.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Incredible job Kristy Marie!

My heart...

Books are magic. I live for those moments that I can get lost in a story and live vicariously through the characters and the world in which they inhabit. This is even more true when I find a book that also teaches me a lesson or reminds me of something that I might have forgotten in the craziness of adulting and real life. This author managed to give me that in spades with this book which shouldn't surprise me considering that she has managed to do that since I first discovered her work.

I knew from the very beginning that this book was going to be special, and not just because of the stunning cover (seriously, this cover is aesthetically sublime and might be my favorite of all of her covers which says something because her covers are always amazing), or the blurb that just grabbed my attention and made me more excited than I usually am that she has a new story. I was correct in my assumption that this was a special book but not in the way that I was originally thinking it was going to be. I knew that it would have the trademark snark that I have come to LOVE from this author but what I was not prepared for was the hidden message about forgiveness and the importance of living a life full of grace. Something that I personally have struggled with, especially of late. It is important to not only have forgiveness but to also forgive oneself. Such a simple, yet, profound concept.

Halle was a force of a woman and one that I admired. Her tenacity and perseverance were to be commended. I am not sure that I would have had the ability to forgive what it was that had brought her to needing Dr. Potter's assistance. She was full of sass and she did not let anything deter her from starting with a fresh slate. Dr. Vance Porter... good lord this damaged man. He reminded me of a wounded wild animal that was pushed into a corner. His first instinct was to lash out and it was something that he did well. He was no match for this sweet little Georgian peach of a woman. Initially, I thought that Halle needed Vance more than he needed her. I was wrong in that assumption because he needed to learn forgiveness, only it was in forgiving himself. My heart hurt for why he was the way that he was. I cannot even imagine. Their chemistry was fire, their steamy times were more than just a moment to give the book spice, and their purpose in each other's lives was two-fold. This book was a mixture of humor (there were times that Vance totally reminded me of Theo from the Commander series) that I have come to love and also dug deeper and had an added depth to it much as Bennett had in Rebellious.

I adored the introduction of Vance's brothers and another important character that I hope will get his own book later because I can already tell there is more to his story. I was dying for each little morsel that was hinted at, especially his camaraderie with Vance. I am not sure how this author does it but she truly has mastered the craft of creating sarcastic but endearing heroes. I love hearing their inner monologues as they are contemplating unaliving someone in their head.

A great epilogue that was bittersweet because I wasn't ready to let these characters go. I cannot wait for what this author writes next, whether it is in this world with Astor and Duke Potter, or if it is my sweet little{name who I shall not mention because it would spoil how it came about in the story}, or if it is back in Commander series because regardless of what it is, it will be amazing.

The Potter is a story based on forgiveness, healing and hope. It’s about having faith in others when they don’t have faith in themselves.
It’s about experiencing the worst day of your life and knowing you should’ve broken but you didn’t. Halle definitely did that. The strength of that woman floored me.

Vance Potter, plastic surgeon extraordinaire is so grumpy that I wanted to shake him in the first few chapters. But when you got to see the vulnerable side of him I fell so head over heels in love it’s not even funny. Duke and Astor (the other Potter brothers) have also stolen my heart and better be getting books because I know that Duke is going to cause some trouble and I am here for it!

These two conquered their demons together one orgasm at a time and boy was I here for it. Their back and forth was hilarious and their sexual chemistry was stifling.

Kristy Marie is known to bring the humour with her books but the thing that makes her a 1-click author for me is that she writes such relatable characters. Characters with flaws. Nobody is perfect and Kristy Marie reminds you that that is ok. As long as you are trying to be the best version of yourself then that is all that matters.

Once again K Marie amazes me with her original writing, angst, wit and the way in which she can pull EVERY SINGLE EMOTION from her readers. The Potter will easily be one of my top favorites of 2022.
She knocked this broody, A-hole hero out of the park, and I fell head over heels for him and this entire cast of characters.

Get ready for this sassy, southern belle heroine to win your heart, and the chemistry between Dr Potter and Halle Belle to steam up your windows. Not only is their banter and connection pure perfection, but the interwoven themes of forgiveness and self-love are simply brilliant.

I didn't want their story to end. I loved every second and scene from these two main characters, and finished the book craving more of certain side characters that I know will be coming soon, and I CAN'T WAIT!!! Well done once again K Marie!

When I started reading The Potter by Kristy Marie, I fully expected to fall in love with the bossy brooding alpha hero. I didn't expect to fall in love harder with the sweet and sassy Southern belle named Halle. She is such an amazing heroine full of beauty, love, hope, kindness and resilience who refuses to break down even at the face of the worst trauma. And she will save our hero on path of self destruction.

Halle has suffered a major accident that has left scars inside out. She doesn't let the scars define her but she wants to do a scar revision to make herself remember that she is better than the scars. And her choice is Dr. Vance Potter. The most renowned plastic surgeon in the country who shapes the lives of many patients like her. But the problem is he declined her. He is in a tragic place after a surgery went wrong and he is drowning in guilt, pain and alcohol. But Halle won't take no for an answer. So when his brothers ( who are also plastic surgeons and run the practice together) ask her to be an assistant, she grabs it. She needs money and time to pursue Vance. But are his demons too big?

Vance is an a##h0l3. There is no doubt about it. One mistake changed his life. He is now always angry, always bitter and always in self sabotage mode. His brothers couldnt get through his denial and alcohol fog. But Halle did. With her bright personality. With her fierce attitude. With her witty sassy mouth. This girl amazed me. She literally went to hell but she still stands strong. She is the best part of this story. Close to Vance's intense personality and dirty dirty mouth. He has a long way to go. He has to forgive himself first and face his fears because he cannot keep on letting down people. There was insane chemistry between them and you can cut the tension with diamond knife. It won't be a Kristy Marie story if you don't experience humor and heartbreak at the same time. I am proud of Halle for standing up for her heart and making Vance grovel. Being a doctor myself, it was sometimes a bit difficult to see a patient-doctor romance but that's on me. You can be ready for a swoony, sexy and emotional story from Kristy Marie.

"You don't need a Potter." I breathe along her wet skin, the smell of her more intoxicating than bourbon. "You're already perfection."

I didn't expect this book to be this intense, it was a pleasent surprise! The book opens up with Halle Belle, a gorgeous, sassy and brave southern belle leaving her hometown- Georgia to meet a successful surgeon whom his patients also called "The Potter" aka Vance Potter, so that he could help her the way he helped several other people by his skills, but only ends up getting disappointed. Halle isn't the one to give up so easily though, which is why she somehow ends up securing a job at Vance's family practice and is determined to make him change his mind.

"You don't want me to save you. You want to run and never look back."

This book was honestly a surprise to me. It was well-written with flawless character development and two beautifully wounded people who had me rooting for them! The way some things about both Vance & Halle's past were revealed had me hooked. It's the story of a girl who thinks she isn't perfect yet still hasn't given up to live her life by taking some bold decisions. And the man is a fixer, he can reshape people's features but can't reshape his own past. A past that caused him so much pain that it still consumes him but he just got lucky because an angel just arrived in his life who could get him out of his misery and be the cure he needed all along. The book deals with some pretty sensitive issues but at the same time, it had the classic humor that Kristy Marie's books usually have. Vance & Halle were so mesmerizing together! They were soulmates who were always meant to heal each other! I loved every single character including Vance's brothers and ofcourse, Remington. It was a great grumpy-sunshine romance and I can't wait for the next books in the series to come out already because I'm not ready to say goodbye to this world yet!

Let me start off my review with the fact that this book and these characters have taught me that no matter how scared or down you are about yourself is not worth the self doubt you place on yourself, but what you do with those emotions and everything does not define who you are as a person and that you should embrace the person you will become after such tragedy. Halle didn't let her imperfections stop her from wanting what she wanted and Vance being hard on himself and not letting himself forgive himself from what happened to his best friend. Basically what I'm trying to say is that this book will inspire you in ways that go beyond the norm and hopefully not just to just change you for the worst but also for the better as well as loving yourself for who you are. And lastly, I like to say that this book since I first heard about Kristy Marie writing it has been one of my most anticipated reads of 2022 and it also definitely didn't let me down, but exceeded my expectations and I wouldn't trade the time that I spent reading this novel for anything in the world. Another great one Mrs. Marie and I hope that everyone will see just how great of a writer you are as well as how much you made these characters feel like real people with real problems and I hope some people will see themselves through them as well....

The Potter was a great hate to love romance. I liked the story but it wasn’t without its faults. Sadly the romance between Halle and Vance wasn’t working for me. It felt off. She was years younger and it came across in her behavior and the way she spoke. It was too awkward. Their dynamic just went in circles the first half of the book and not doing anything for their relationship or me. I cared more about them individually cause that’s where they shined.

Vance’s brothers made an impression as did Halle’s friend Remington. So even though the romance wasn’t working I still might continue just because of Astor and Duke.

I just want you to know that KM has got the recipe perfected for a good book.
The steam, the brokenness, the healing, the side characters that I want more of(you KNOW which one I want), and the quirky humor that ties everything together with a bow.
This book hit me right in the feels, choked me up, and cracked me up over and over again.
I’ll be reading the rest of this series, and pretty much everything else this author puts out until the end of time.

Halle and Vance were fire and ice! An enemies-to-lovers, emotional romance with so many feels and explosive chemistry.

She went to Texas to change her past, so that she could build her future. Dr. Potter wasn’t going to make it easy for her. She needed him to make her dream a reality. The only problem was, he was fighting his own ghosts.

Together they would battle. Sometimes each other, but eventually they became allies to tackle the past that weighed each of them down. Two lost souls who would find solace in one another. Their scars, both physical and emotional, would not define them. They would fight to leave them behind and embrace forgiveness.

Halle brought sunshine to his darkness. She may push everyone of his buttons, but she changed his world into the happily ever after he never saw coming. This grumpy surgeon has met his match with this small town, sassy, southern girl.

The author brought us characters that were complex and tormented. Their pain and struggles were real. However, their perseverance and love for one another was beautiful. Vance, Duke, and Astor were brothers who would give a punch in the face as quickly as some unsolicited advice. Family through and through. They loved hard and I cannot wait for each of their story’s. And Remington…I want to know everything!

The author intertwined her signature humor with this heartfelt love story. It was a journey to new beginnings and I loved every word.

***5 "Follow your heart!!!" stars***

"There is beauty in every broken thing. And broken things deserve a chance to shine just like everyone else."

This is not my first book of Kristy Marie, nor the fifth!!! And there is a reason for that!!!
Kristy can make your heart beat wildly while tears of laugh are running down your face furiously!!!!
This author is unique and her stories are beautiful from every aspect...
Her heroes are broken, but they never lose their sense of humor...
Her heroines are sassy and feisty and they are not backing out on anything...
So what there is on her stories that I wouldn't love???
Halle and Vance got into me and it will take time for their memory to fade away... If ever!!! And I don't even like doctors for god's sake!!! LOL!!!

"I'm not the savior you think I am."
"What are you then?"
"You don't want me to save you, Peach. You want to run and never look back."

Halle is determined to change her life... A tragic accident had made her life to turn upside down, but when he saw his face on TV, she knew that Dr. Potter was the one who could help her to a new beginning...
And she had worked really hard for the last four years to accomplice this dream of hers, but her first and only appointment with her savior ended up in catastrophy...
This man is a jerk of epic proportions, but she is determined to make him cave even though he blatantly told her a big fat NO on helping with her case....

"These scars no longer define me. I want new opportunities, not a reminder of the past."

Dr. Potter is the most brilliant plastic surgeon of our time... He had saved countless lives...
But he is refusing to help this mouthy Southern Belle that landed on his office... and he is not backing on this decision no matter what she will say or do...
The truth is that Vance Potter has demons that are chasing after him... Demons that are changing him...
But this little feisty woman had shaken him to the core when she decided to be everywhere he was looking at and when she became witness of his meltdown, everything changed between them...

"Ms. Belle wanted the old Dr. Potter -the one the media applauded. What she got was the remnants of what that asshole left behind."

I can not really explain to you how these two had managed to crawl under my skin...
Their banters were making me smile constantly...
Their pasts had broken me...
But there was brewing something wonderful and unique between them that was bringing excitement beyond measures to the reader!!!
Vance and Halle were unique creatures and I fell hard for both of them!!! Their encounters felt so effortless and you just wanted to devour their story in one go!!!

"You like my chaos, don't you?"

"Halle Belle was sent here to break me, and she just might succeed."

If you will ask me which book of Kristy Marie is my favorite, I can not answer you!!!!
Every single time, I think that her last book was my favorite one, but then the next story comes and I am falling again from the start...
I love her male characters very much but I believe that her female characters are stealing the impressions... They are always so crazy and loveable that it's impossible for them to not make an impact to you...

"You were mine the minute you insulted me."

If you haven't read this author yet, you don't know what you're missing...
Vance and Halle had stolen a piece of my heart and their story gave me all the feels...
Of course, Marie knows how to create amazing secondary characters that you are longing their stories after!!!
I just need the other two Potters' stories!!!
And is it only me that had fallen for Remington??? His relationship with Vance was so hillarious!!! And I demand his own story!!! Pretty please, Marie???

"You were always the potter. You just needed to be reminded."

TROPES: enemies to lovers ⋙ work place romance

★¸¸.•*¨*•★ Review ★¸¸.•*¨*•★

A witty, cleaver, emotional romance filled with sexual tension, and explosive chemistry. This enemies-to-lovers had me in my feels. I don't think I was ready for the emotions that this book brought out.

All the sass and snark between Halle and Vance is gold. Halle has no filter. The colorful names Halle came up with for Serena were hilarious. I loved how she stood up to Dr. Potter and didn’t take his crap. She is the absolute ray of sunshine that brings the Ole Mighty Dr. Potter to his knees.

The Potter Brothers are hilarious and I loved the friendship they formed with Halle. And let's not forget Remington. His friendship with Halle is one of the sweetest things ever.

There’s no shortcoming of sass, sexual tension and banter throughout the book. I enjoyed it a lot.

Original, captivating and full of feels, The Potter is yet another example of Kristy's immense writing talent and emotional storytelling gift.

With the perfect blend of sass, humor and angst, Kristy tells a beautiful story of growth and forgiveness that is sure to resonate with any reader. Showing fully developed characters that just feel REAL, and an emotional and inspiring storyline, this book had me going through the full spectrum of emotions, shedding more than several tears and feeling both Halle and Vance's pain and hope.
Featuring some amazing side characters that I couldn't help but fall in love with, I can't wait to get lost in this new wonderful world Kristy weaves and all it has to offer.

10 stars and a new memory

"broken things deserve a chance to shine just like everyone else."

Kristy Marie writes about asshole baseball player. About marines who've gone thorough hell and back. And she writes about strong women who got them through. She also writes about their kids. And one might think that's where her strength lies. One would be wrong. So very very wrong.

Her strength isn't in one particular set of characters. Her strength isn't in comfort of the McCallister Jameson Foundation and many characters that call it home. Her strength is in the depth she gives her characters. And the heart and sole she pours into the story she writes. And once again she has absolutely outdone herself.

The plot is as intricate as any she's written so far. Character development beyond par and even the "background" characters not only get their chance to shine but do whole lot to contribute to the story. Which just so happens to be another one of her strengths.

The dinamic between Halle and Vance is something beautiful to read. He's supposed to be the potter but throughout the book she's the one that's molding him. Yes he's supposed to be fixing her with surgery but ultimately she's the one that puts him back together. And you can physically see, once he preformed the surgery, if she was to leave it would break him beyond the point of no return. And that's exactly what happens. Except he does find his way back. They find their way back. And it's absolutely beautiful to read.

With every book she writes Kristy seems to outdo herself. And one has to ask themselves, how much better can she actually get. I'm not sure. But I believe even the sky isn't a limit anymore. Her books are that good. And I for one can't wait for the next one

This book was such an amazing read! There were definitely some laugh out loud moments but the emotion in this story is very raw and real! These two characters, Vance and Halle, are both beautifully broken souls. They each have their own demons from the past and they fight them daily. Halle wears hers on her body in the form of scars. Vance hides his beneath the skin, using bourbon and a bad attitude to mask his pain. When their paths cross they have an instant chemistry that is electric. Halle refuses to take no for an answer from Dr Potter. While Dr Potter refuses to give in to yet another possible mistake in the OR. Through persistence and determination, Halle breaks through Vance’s barriers. They form a bond with one another that they have yet to experience in their lifetime. The constant push and pull allows them to tear down the defenses and create a lasting relationship that works for them both!

The Potter brothers are truly such amazing men. Getting to know each one of them was a fun experience while reading Vance and Halle’s journey! I can’t wait to get more of Astor and Duke Potter in future books!

The doctor WON’T see you now…

Kristy Marie is my go to for RomComs. As much as I’m obsessed with her alpha males (yes, I’m talking about you Theo) it’s her leading ladies that I love the most. Halle is no exception. She’s right up there with Anniston, Ainsley and Mackenzie as one of the best written female characters I’ve ever read. The thing I love most about Kristy’s female characters is their inner monologue. I feel so connected to them… and their friggin’ hilarious! Kristy’s female characters are also fierce, independent (sometimes to their own detriment) and persistence. Halle epitomised all of these characteristics. She was goal oriented and willing to but in the work to realise her dream.

The thing I like about Kristy’s men is that they are so diverse. They are all alpha-holes but in different ways from Theo to Cooper. Dr Vance Potter is probably somewhere in between. He’s probably a Cooper (sweetheart) but he’s behaving like a Theo (a-hole) Speaking of men… this story was not lacking them. There are three Dr Potter’s who are all successful plastic surgeons. We are going to need Vance’s brother’s Astor and Duke asap! However the one I’m really looking forward to hearing more about is Remington… please tell me there’s a story there Kristy!

Halle and Vance’s story is an angsty slow burn but the steamy scenes are definitely worth the wait. The writing is perfection, the story line is so compelling you won’t want to put it down and I promise you will love these amazing characters. This book is a total standalone so you can jump right in! If you haven’t read Kristy Marie’s other books you should definitely check them out.

The Potter is a book that pulls you in from the start and has all the feels and will have you falling in the love with Vance and Halle but at the same time sometimes your not sure if Vance is the right man for her. The side characters in this book play a huge part and make the story. Absolutely loved it.

I love Kristy Marie’s writing! Her wit, sarcasm & sense of humor are my kind of book crack! I just can’t get enough! She creates the best grumpy broken heroes and the most fabulous of sunshiny Heroines… feisty, independent, brave & selfless!

Dr. Vance Potter is the brilliant plastic surgeon with internal scars that haunt him. Halle Belle is the hopeful patient with scars from physical trauma. Together they find a way to heal from the pain they both suffer. With the help of the funniest secondary characters!! I need stories for Vance’s brothers Astor & Duke and Halle’s “neighbor” Remington!

The Potter is a perfect mix of drama, comedy & romance. A MUST READ!

Kristy started this story off with a ¡bang! and it doesn’t slow down!

OHMYFREAKINGGOSH!!!!!

This book was SO. GOOD!!!! Literally every single part!! I had this ‘feel good’ thrum in my chest the entire time 😍.
What I loved most about this story was that Kristy allowed the characters to be together (and happy) while dealing with an external conflict throughout the story.
So many times, a good book is ruined by the fact the story ends as soon as the characters you’ve invested in finally get together!

This is a beautifully original story of how two very different, yet equally tragic, experiences lead Vance and Halle to each other when they least expect it ♥️

Unfortunately, the beautifully stubborn Vance Potter does everything he can to prevent Ms. Halle Belle from breaching the not so carefully constructed walls he’s built up around his heart. But the universe and Ms. Belle, and a few other hunky hero’s, won’t allow her to be ignored. After everything Halle has been through.. she feels her last obstacle is Dr. Potter and she refuses to give up now. Not after coming this far. 😈

*“I’m feeling like God knew Vance would need to be hot because the personality he strapped him with will end up getting him junk-punched. Multiple times.”*

Throughout this perfectly crafted grumpy/sunshine story we learn the details of the tragedies each of our characters experienced. I found myself able to relate to each characters unique way they chose to cope. Not that I could ever imagine going through what they did, but the pain/guilt/grief was tangible.

*“Her fight is exquisite.
Her resilience is magnificent.
And her body is… beautifully flawed and perfectly crafted.”*

* “If we were only able to make one mistake in our lifetime, with no one to forgive us and allow second chances, we’d be lonely, f*cked-up messes. We’d have no reason to live. No reason to try again or do better.” *

This fresh story of love and second chances was significant and purposeful, while also making me laugh and just all around feel good!!.

And honestly Kristy!!!
¡¡¿¿Remington??!!
Where did he come from???? And when do we find out?!?!? HIS STORY MUST BE TOLD!!!!

Omg where to start with this one?! Well first off I completely loved this story and every character that is in it. This book is hilarious even though it deals with a lot of traumatic incidents throughout the storyline.

This was a absolutely perfect book to escape real life and just have a few laughs and just enjoy these amazing characters that only Kristy Marie can bring to life.

Oh boy if you thought Kristy's last characters were broody alpha males well wait till you meet Dr. Vance Potter. This guy is the epitome of broody, growly, and oh so grumpy. Now with that being said this guy definitely has his reason for the dark and arrogant mood swings he has. He's a renowned surgeon that has lost his way and is slowly falling apart. Fate steps in and a Southern belle with a bit of a trucker's mouth won't take no or his rudeness, which leads to Vance finally being challenged and pulled out of his darkness he has found himself in.

Halle Belle, is an amazing character from her perspective on life and tragedies to overcome, she is the absolute ray of sunshine that brings the Ole Mighty Dr. Potter to his knees. Yes she is fighter and she gives him one thing he never knew he needed was a second chance and maybe love that neither of them were looking for.

The banter and sexual tension is so palpable in this this book between these two. Yes it's a slow burn to a full on combustion with these two. I just loved the witty commentary not just between these two but the entire side characters as well. The Potter Brothers are hilarious in their own right and omg I just loved the friendship they formed with Halle. Speaking of awesome amazing friendships let's not forget Remington. This kid was hilarious and sweet but definitely gave as good as grouchy Vance Potter. His friendship with Halle is one of the sweetest things ever. Ugh I could go on like forever about how much I loved this book. And yes it is hilarious and has some heat in it as well, but the absolute best part of this book, is how the author took these two individuals who had something so unfortunate happen to them but gives them such a unique understanding of what the other is going through. You watch both of them coupe in very different ways and how forgiveness isn't just given by someone but to forgive themselves also. I loved the message that everyone is human and makes mistakes which you learn from and hopefully forgiveness will be given for a second chance.

I voluntarily signed up for an ARC with nothing to gain other than to give my honest opinion/review. I can honestly say this is one of my favorites of Kristy Marie and I can't wait for more of these characters. I loved every single minute of this book from start to finish and it will definitely be another re-read when I need to escape the stress of real life. Definitely grab this book highly recommend it!

Kristy has created pure magic with The Potter, this is such an immensely unique and demonstrative romance that will tear your heart in two. The sheer brokenness of the lead characters will cause your soul to ache and tears to fall. I was not prepared for the deeply emotive connection I was going to have for these characters. They each have their demons and they each need to heal those pieces of themselves. This is not just a romance but a profoundly intense look into the unrealistic expectations of perfection. It’s about looking at yourself and seeing the best version of you. It’s about being happy with the imperfections and knowing that you are flawless just how you are.

But through all of that it’s also about forgiveness. But not of other’s but of yourself. I fell in love with Vance and Halle from the first moment I opened this book. Each are so different in their traumas. Watching as they grow together healing and mending in ways that they weren’t expecting was beautiful to see.

Vance has some darkness in him, he hurts in ways that can’t just be overcome overnight. But with Halle’s patience and understanding he slowly starts to see the light at the end of the tunnel. And Halle this woman has strength on top of strength. What she has been through and what she had to overcome just destroyed me. But she did it with grace and dignity. Her heart and soul not tarnished and bitter but accepting and raw.

Kristy always creates characters that you can’t help but connect with on a visceral level. Their pain is your pain, it’s always an experience reading her books and this one is no different. Vance and Halle are something pure and special, these two will live with me long after I’ve finished. Kristy took a chance with The Potter and in my opinion, she slayed this story. Start to finish you are going to be gripped by these two, your heart will be ripped to shreds, your soul in tatters on the floor, and tears inevitably will pour from your eyes, but you will have lived through a journey unlike anything you’ve read. Take the leap and fall in love with these characters as I have, you won’t regret it!

Once again this author proves to me why she will always be one of my all time faves! This story was absolute magic, grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go until the very end. This book like so many of her other has it all; humor, steam, relatable characters, broken heroes, unrelenting sassy heroines, and everything in between.

I loved this book. Absolute perfection in its execution and flow. And how it just connects to readers. As someone who works in medicine, we often tend to be perfectionists and strive to be the best as well as always wanting the best for our patients. But even if it’s unrealistic and potentially damaging to us we won’t stop. Both characters go through something heavy and learn to cope and deal with things through the help of one another.

Dr. Vance potter is our slightly a-hole alpha who is no match for the determination of Halle. But as much as he was brash he was hurting. And just like anyone wounded and backed into a corner her lashed out. He totally gave me Theo vibes (Commander) with his attitude and humor. But he was just a real character, flawed and broken in certain ways like most people are. She calls him on his BS and forces him to evaluate his life and problems that he has been so obviously denying.

I hope we get stories for his brothers Duke and Astor or any of the amazing bunch within this book. An amazing read! Totally recommend!

The Potter had me at hello, ok maybe not hello but you get the drift. This story has you hooked from the very first interaction between Vance and Halle. The tension, anger, fear and let’s not forget the chemistry that rages in the air between them. Two people who are haunted by their past will need each other more than they could ever expect, to find the future that they both deserve. This story held me captured within the pages surrounded by the words that were owning my soul. Vance had me walking the line between hate, heartache and swooning. Halle was a woman with strength, determination and a heart as big as Texas. These two lit up the pages with their connection, banter and passion. The Potter holds you teetering on the edge of your seat right to the very end. A story overflowing with so many emotions and characters that not only make you smile, laugh and cry but they also own a little piece of you by the end. My one request is that this isn’t the end and we might be treated to stories for Duke, Astor and let’s not forget Remington.
