Read the generational saga about three sisters and their grandmother and her friends in the beachside town of Hideaway Bay.
After reuniting with her sisters at her grandmother’s funeral, Alice Monroe determines that Hideaway Bay may be the place for her. Nursing a broken heart, Alice throws herself into transforming her grandmother’s house into an inn. She swears off men, deciding the single life filled with family, friends, and pets is the life for her. When she meets the Colonel, she immediately dismisses him, after all, he’s not her type, but soon she begins to take a second look.
Back to Hideaway bay we go! I loved book one so was excited for book two and it is every bit as wonderful! Lily led the first book so it’s only right that Alice leads book two and she is such a lovely character. We get some answers to questions but then we get more questions of course. It’s an emotional read ( yes tears were shed!) as Alice figures out what she needs and we get more back story as the author does a great job going back and forth in time. It left me with a smile and now I eagerly await the next book!
I believe Brouder has grown so much in her writing. It was always good, but this is truly exceptional! I didn’t want to put the book down for one second. Stayed up way too late, ha! That’s what a great book will do to me. It moved me. Alice’s story is every bit as impressive as Lily’s. Do read book 1 first, for optimal enjoyment.
The continuing story of sisters Alice, Isabelle and Lily, with flashbacks into the lives of their grandmother’s best friends, Barb, Junie, and Thelma. Alice is disenchanted with her life as a lawyer and returns to Hideaway Bay, joining her sister Lily in the house they inherited from their grandmother. While trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life, she ends up doing some volunteer work, bakes goods for a veteran’s group, and takes on a part time job as an assistant at a rundown law firm. She meets the Colonel, but immediately dismisses him as too old. She might come to regret that decision.
While there are some heartbreaking moments, this is a heartwarming story about friendship, new beginnings, new love, and a HEA. Have some tissues ready toward the end.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have to say that Michele is an auto-buy author for me and what I like more about her writing is her capacity to reach the heart of the reader with her words and style. This is the case in this series and especifically in this 2nd book of Hideaway Bay. I have love the two-time stories . Thelma´s is so beautiful, although it has sad moments. You can see the story through Thelma´s eyes, that´s how good it is the book written. I love Alice story too and how she is so brave and determined. I also like the questions and answers you get and the ones that are left ready to be known in book 3. I have found this series so touching and warm and I would recommend to read them. Cant wait to read the 3rd book!
This was the second book in this series and I thought it might take me a while to get back into the story and the characters and I was pleased it did not. I felt like I had not left Hideaway Bay. I enjoyed being reunited with the characters I loved reading about in the first book. This book did not disappoint me. The author immediately pulled me back into the lives of Thelma through her past and Alice, who is the granddaughter of one of Thelma's best friends. This book touched my heart as it made me cry at one point and smile at other times. I really liked the ending. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
This is the story of Hideaway Bay. The story ties together the stories of the residents. There's the story of Stanley and Thelma. Stanley owns the Old Red Top diner, running the grill and kitchen. it helm a is back in town with het son Donny. She believes Stanley has loved her since 3rd grade. Then there's the sisters..Alice, Lily and Isabelle. They lived with Grammy. Will they be able to stay close when Grammy dies? Interesting story of small town on a beach, interaction between people, and how we sometimes don't listen to our hearts. Enjoyed the interaction
I loved, loved, loved this book! I loved the continuing story of Thelma and Alice. It helped provide more depth into Thelma (who was a friend of the grandma) and her life growing up. I loved Alice's story. Alice is such a kind character. The story was well written, and it made you feel the emotions that the characters were feeling. I can't wait to read the last story that will tie everything together and hopefully give me more answers about what happens.....I just can't wait!!!
I would highly recommend this book from Michele Brouder!
This second book in the series is my favourite well I said that for the first one, I fell in love with this generational saga which is following Alice in her very demanding career, I loved the way The storyline goes back in younger times of the principal characters which is filled with lots of memories. Life is full of up and downs, misunderstandings, misquoted the list is infinite. Well written you will fall for all those characters that get to your heart. I highly recommend it, can’t wait for book 3. Thanks to the author for providing me with my review copy.
This is the 2nd book I've read in the series in just over a week. It's so different from most books I've read recently and I've enjoyed them both so much. The places and people were so well described, I actually could visualise them no problem. It was so refreshing to be reading about some place in America, big change from the usual stories based in France, or Cornwall. I've never heard of Michele Brouder before, but I will definitely be looking out for her books in future, one I've read the third installment of the above. Definitely a 5 plus star rating.
Great continuation of book 1/ great as a stand alone
Not Rick - Jan - we share the Amazon acct. I really felt book 1 to be unfinished- too much left dangling. This is better and I’m hoping book 3 will bring Isabelle’s story full circle as well as tie up loose ends for Lily and Alice. I don’t need every woman to have to have a husband or partner to have a happy and fulfilling life, but I do like the plot points to be taken care of.
I'm totally captivated with this family and group of friends
This series of books truly has been one of my all-time very favorite books. I've been so ensconced in the lives of each and every one of these wonderful people and they all are so interesting and real. I'm going on to book three right now and I'm anticipating what's going to happen and I think that this is some of the best writing that I've read in a long time
The second book in this series is like meeting up with your best friends. You just can't wait to see what happens next with Thelma and Alice. This story brings out all of your emotions & you're definitely going to need a tissue. Absolutely loved it!!
What a gripping story . This story will keep readers on the edge of each page . I love how this story goes back in time to the older characters live so you get a look at their past joys and heart aches ,then it picks up with junkies granddaughters current live . A wonderful romance .Highly recommend
Whether sisters or dear friends, I thoroughly enjoyed the characters developed by Ms. Brouder. Being there for each other and being such an important part of each other’s lives paints such an endearing picture. I want to nurture that connection in my own life.
I actually read this book faster than the first!! I loved the story about Alice & Thelma. Of course Lily and other characters are still entwined in the storyline. Thelma's story became clearer the more I read. I love how the book does the flashbacks of the past, while still keeping the present day moving forward. Lots of laughter and a few tears were shed.
Love the way the author moves between the different times of the character's lives and between the generations. Such a refreshingly real account of life's ups and downs in such a creative way. Makes me want to become one of the characters in the book. Great, easy read for vacation, lazy days to enjoy reading or some just before bed relaxation.
Loved it! Tells the story of sisters and their friends loss and grief through the years of growing up and how they each dealt with it to finely reach their happy ever after!
This is the 2nd book of the Hideaway Bay series and I loved this book as much as the 1st. This book focused on Alice and Thelma and once again went back and forth, decade to decade. This book made me cry and smile. Looking forward to the 3rd book!
I loved the town of Hideaway Bay and the wonderful complicated people who make Hideaway Bay home. Have to admit shedding a few tears at the end. Definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Just when I think I know what's going to happen in the story, Michele surprises me. I'm either laughing or crying and wanting more. A new author to me and I'm glad I found her.
This is the 2nd book in the Hideaway Bay series. Each book is a stand alone book and continues the family saga. The book is well written, and no sexual scenes. I recommend this book.
Love the characters. The storyline is entertaining especially with the characters in alternating times. each book so far was about 2 characters and their lives within Hideaway Bay. So good can’t wait to read the next in the series.
Really loving this series Alice and Lily are settling into their Grams house and starting to make new lives in Hideaway Bay Thelma’s story is full of heartache but also joy when she realises that she truly loves someone else a happy but sad ending just can’t wait to curl up with the next book .
Wonderful storyline. The characters all came alive and became my friends. I laughed, I shook my head, I cried. Michele Brouder has become one of my favorite authors!
I enjoy a story with history in the character’s life . We all look back and see things we wished were different in our lives . Choices we made and people we didn’t love
I so enjoyed reading this book. I’m happy to know the sisters will be fine with each other. Alice has finally found her true niche in her life. Lily is so peaceful. I can’t wait to discover what is next for the sisters. Dry wholesome read.
I like how the book went back and forth from past to future. I loved the sisterly bond and the friends' closeness. This book was comforting. Michele Brouder did a great job with both books. I really enjoyed them.
Excellent second book in the Hideaway Bay series. The first focused on the middle granddaughter, Lily. This focuses on the youngest, Alice. In the dual timeline, the first focused on Junie, the grandmother. This focuses on one of her friends, Thelma. Love the story and the writing style.
Great book! Awesome storyline! I love this series so far. Book 3 is about the oldest sister who is the world traveler. She has never settled down, own a house so it should proof interesting
