Unwanted by my own father, dumped by my ex, all I want is someone to tell me I’m good enough Then, Furore, the Night Skulls MC president, the cartel’s man and the Lanza Mafia crime family’s friend, shows up in the prison writing class I teach and looks at me like I’m his good girl About to be his very bad girl…
Even if his protective arms save me, when you trust an animal in a cage you never know when he’ll bite He won’t just leave a mark He’ll brand you with blood and ink His property forever But when our secrets are intertwined in the most forbidden way, threatening to destroy us both, will he still be my protector or the one who delivers my soul to the hell I’ve been running away from all my life?
Another psycho hiding in plain sight, pretending to be normal. Half Egyptian. Loather of cats. Allergic to fake sh*t. Lover of everything dark and spicy.
This was my first book by NJ Adel and it won’t be my last! Keep in mind this book has triggers and is dark. You’ve been warned. This book is about Jo a teacher and Furore the President of the Night Skulls. They meet for the most unexpected reason and unexpected way. This book had secrets/twists galore that will leave you shocked. Furore is a definite alpha-hole and wants her from the first time he sees her. Please note this book ends in a shocking cliffhanger. Now, when’s the next book out??
First, don’t read this if you are easily offended by dark books because this book doesn’t deserve to be criticized by people who don’t like darkness in their reads. Now, that that is said…OMG! I loved Jo and Furore. Jo taught English to inmates and Furore just happened to be one of those inmates. You could tell he was all alpha male but he had to be since he was the Prez for the Night Skulls MC.
This book was hot, suspenseful, and gritty and that made this a huge page turner for me. This is my first time reading this author and I have to say that I will be following her from here on out. Loved It!
NJ firstly thank you for my ARC copy and the opinions expressed below are entirely my own.
Sometimes there are not enough stars and not enough words to show appreciation of a book. This is one of those times. This book is unbelievably dark, suspenseful, violent, loving and not to mention sexy and erotic. This is not a book for the faint hearted and if you are, please do not read this just to criticize it. This is some of the best writing with the best plot, the best sex and the best naughty issues I have read in forever. Yes, I love bad boys/men and Furore/Tirone are two of the very worst but many of us reading would want somebody like either one in our lives to love us and dominate us. I will say very little more as I wish to give nothing away. If you are an NJ Adel fan this is a MUST read for you especially if you have met the Lanzas and the Bellomos. If you are new to NJ Adel then you are in for a roller coaster ride but please, if you do not like to read extreme BDSM or erotica and cannot take forced, sex, underage sex, etc., please do not read this book. Otherwise, stay on the edge of your seat and like me count the days until the next in the series is released.
TW: rape, violence, persistent/ forceful ex, heavy smut, etc
This was good. It kind of falls in a part in between where some parts got somewhat uninteresting and others were actually pretty great. It's mostly smut with a plot on the side.
I feel like what bothered me most about this is how much Jo and Furore's relationship makes zero sense. They say they're in love but...why? For what reason?? They literally don't know shit about each other. If it was only described as just insane lust I would get it. But the way they're just insanely in love she would literally DIE FOR HIM makes absolutely no sense which annoys the shit out of me.
"How did I fall for the same dark and twisted type twice? How was I turned on by all that toxicity and violence?"
I HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA BUT THE FACT THAT SHE REALIZES IT AND STILL STAYS WITH HIM IS SO FUCKING FRUSTRATING. I understand falling for the villain (I've done it multiple times) but I feel like it should be he's a villain to everyone else but not to her you know? He can be a literal murderer but treat her like a goddess and respect her more than anyone. In this book, Furore doesn't even respect when Jo tells him "NO" on multiple occasions and that really bothers me.
I LOVED THE SMUT THOUGH. The dirty talk was AMAZING. So honestly I'd read this again just for that.
"That's right baby, I am your god. Now, I need you to be a good girl for me and show me what's mine."
YES SIRRR 🧎🧎🧎
Some things just don't make sense . But it was written well enough and the smut was worth it. ALSO, THE CLIFFHANGER WAS SO GOOD!! It's one of those books that even though it's not amazing you also just wanna know what happens because it's low-key addictive.
You've got it all, age gap, forbidden romance, ex-boyfriends father and the list goes one! If you love dark romance, MC romances, forbidden romance and a book that is fast-paced this is the one for you. This book was so good I cannot wait for the next one to come!
If you are grabbing this book please check the trigger warnings on it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thank you for all who read Furore and loved it. At the same time, I'd like to say something to all those reviews saying the plot 'twist' is predictable. Tirone being Furore's son was NEVER the TWIST for the READER. Everybody knows this is an ex-boyfriend's dad book. It's in every post I made about the duet. Yes, the characters didn't know in the storyline for the events to pan out in the way they did, but that didn't mean the readers didn't know. That was never my intention. I only wanted the readers to go in the book knowing Ty is Laius's son YET question it through the book events a little bit and then find out they were right from the start when they reach the end. Nothing more nothing less. The TWIST in Furore is the role the Mafia plays in the storyline. As for Tirone, the TWIST is again how the Mafia situation got resolved AND MORE IMPORTANTLY the unexpected happy ending in the forbidden love triangle. Thanks NJ
First and foremost, I am leaving this review voluntarily. With that said, I am so glad I was accepted to arc read this before it comes out!
Book 1 of 2! MC/Mafia! Sign me up! There are triggers so if you have any please don't read. This is a dark romance! -ex-boyfriend's father -teacher/student, taboo age gap -FORBIDDEN relationships -Tall, Dark, and deliciously psycho anti-heroes -Heroine with a traumatized past -Scorching dark scenes
Jo Meneceo is the main female, she's the teacher working in a prison and Furore is the delicious President of the Night Skulls who is in her class. The plot of this book is crazy good. I kept on saying OMG then there was a part I figured out and it was all crazy and that little cliffhanger! My god! There's a ton of mystery to this book. Who is Jo really? Why does she want to run? What's the deal with Tirone leaving her? Why is Furore so obsessed with her? The sexy scenes were on point! 5/5!
I think my favorite quote is "Answer me, baby, who f*cking did this? Who f*cking hurt you? I'll kill them" -I love when a man will un-alive for his girl!
Also the dedication had me giggling but also its sooo true! I literally can't wait until I get my hands on the next half!
I really wanted to like this book because I usually am a huge fan of dark romance, especially MC Romance. But….I just couldn’t get into the story. I was confused who was talked about and even though I first liked the Female Main Character she started to annoy me about halfway through. She didn’t stand up for herself and while I know it is a form of coping it was just so much for my liking. I get why people like the book and the writing style was really catchy (why I didn’t put the book down). Don‘t let this prevent you from reading this book, just be prepared for a lot of toxicity.
did i read another book because of a random clip on Instagram thinking it'll help me overcome my reading slump but instead was splashed with weird smut? yes.
MY RATING: 3* RELEASE DATE: 13 May 2022 CLIFFHANGER: Yes
ARC was kindly provided for an honest review
It’s been a minute it feels since I’ve read a N. J Adel book, but I do remember she’s got some serious writing chops. Normally I don’t read MC romances, but I figured what the hell this time around. As soon as it hit my kindle, I was on it like white on rice. I have to say I’m a bit conflicted about it. But well get to that later.
This book started off strong. Riddled with secrets decades in the making and I was immediately hooked to the nerdy girl and the big bad, sexy bicker Furore. The blurb had promised so much and the initial chapters promised some serious drama, but alas we get none of that. I love nothing more than the secrets the mafia keep, the suspense of trying to survive when they’re looking for you, and this book had that for it. so I thought. but it soon became obvious that were not going to be exploring that avenue very much. Which is OK because we can look at other avenues, right?
Why rate it 3 stars? There is so much going on with the mafia and cartel family dynamics that I felt a bit confused sometimes but managed to get through it. But what really got on my tits was the insta-love thing. I can’t stand that. It doesn’t make sense especially for a man like Furore with a history like his. Secondly, there are lots of story threads that were left incomplete, just hanging mid-air. While I appreciate that this could have been the setting up of a story, the details that were given were loose too. What really did my head is that “theyre in love”. Why, when, how? There was absolutely no chemistry between these two. They’re romance or love just seemingly comes out of nowhere, to me anyway. But this is just a personal preference for me. Bear in mind that I read crazy, dark twisted ass romances, so to me this seemed like a book I would have loved when I was starting out in my journey as a romance reader. But considering how Jo got to be in Furore’s radar, I expected some conflict on his part about who he was taking on by failing his assignment. Some back and forth about whether he was being selfish risking his brothers for a girl he just met. Also he seems to know her mom, how? I also couldn’t get my head around how someone who has been in hiding for over a decade could just easily succumb and fall so easily and reveal all her secrets in one chapter, you know, since she was still “heart-broken” from her last break up.
I don’t know. This one really missed the mark for me, but I liked it enough that I will be reading book 2.
Furore is the 1st part of an MC/Mafia duet by N.J. Adel. It's fast paced, full of suspense and dark and twisted romance. I must say if you're familiar with N.J. Adel's work, you'll find this book pretty tame than her other books. It's still dark, but she wrote darker. It's still a great book. Enjoyed it immensely and have a feeling part 2 Tirone will be even better.
What did I just read? The beginning was a bit odd, and I felt like I was starting in the middle of the story. The writing cleaned itself up by the halfway mark. I did enjoy reading it, which probably says more about me than the book lol. Was this a bit of a trainwreck? Yes. Will I read the next one? Yes.
I have to say I'm not a big fan of books with too many tropes but good god NJ did a really good job at writing this book. We have:
MC club Mafia Age gap Ex boyfriend's dad
Furore is age gap zaaaaaddy and my god his possessive nature mixed in with a bossy I know what I want and its you vibes hits all the right places. Many parts were tingling. Did i mention he has tattoos? President of a MC club? 🥵 one of my biggest weakness. The way he treats Jo and knows what to push makes me weak at the knees.
Jo is our FMC with a secret. She's not who she says she is and has a mysterious vibe going for her. She has a secret, a secret that could destroy everything. In a lot of ways she's so strong but at the same time needs to know what love feels like. I feel like i get her because I'm very similar. Weak in some areas and strong in others. I really hope i get to see her grow and become the queen she is. The book does end in a cliffhanger but have no fear, the next book is already on its way! I can't wait to see how everything plays out. A solid read 😌😌
This book had me hooked from almost the very beginning. There were so many unexpected things in my reading. I really thought I knew how the story would go in the beginning but it definitely changed by the end. This story was dark and exciting and had plenty of steam. I guessed who Furore's son was early on but I really did not expect J to make the decisions that she made. And the cliffhanger! I am excitedly anticipating the next book now and I can't wait to see what happens. Definitely recommend this suspenseful, steamy book. I received a review copy of this story and am leaving a voluntary honest review.
Book one of a new duet by NJ Adel. This is MC meets Mafia. Jo is a teacher volunteering at a prison and Furore is the Night Skulls MC Prez currently serving time when their paths meet. Jo is running from her past in more ways then one, Furore wants to own her in every way and protect her from harm. The plot is complex and fast paced and I cannot wait for the second instalment. Without giving away spoilers this has two forbidden relationships, one being an age gap and there is cross over with The Forbidden Cruel Italians Series (you don't need to of read it first but I suggest you do as its an awesome series)
Adel does not joke around when writing a dark, possessive, MC romance. My god, I was glued to this story from the first page! I cannot wait to devour the next one! To say I am a fan, is an understatement! Wow, wow, wow! Readers, I recommend this book!
- Jo is a creative writing teacher at a local High School in San Francisco. She also volunteer's at the local prison. She is in love with a man named Tirone who she has not seen in a couple of months.
-Laius is a prisoner who has his eye on the teacher. As time goes on, the two become closer, and it is apparent that they have real chemistry. Laius is the President for the Night Skulls in Texas.
- Jo has a secret that she does not want to get out. She has hidden herself behind glasses, contacts and a wig.
- I cannot wait for the next book!.

Furore will take you on a deliciously dark, crazy ride. Furore is the first part of a duet so expect an explosive cliffy. After being dumped by her boyfriend without so much as a goodbye Jo tried to move forward with her life. She busied herself working at the prison as a teacher in English. She had to stay alert at all times wearing a wig and contacts. Not just at the prison but her personal life. She had a huge secret that could cost her her life. Laius is the president of the Night Skulls MC who have a bad reputation. He was sent to prison after being framed by his ex. All he cares about is his son until he meets his teacher at the prison. Sparks fly between Jo and Furore. After she quits her teaching job and Furore is released their relationship begins to blossom. When Jo's past comes back to haunt her she must do what she can in order to survive and protect Furore. Can't wait for next installment Tirone!
This is book one of a dark duet so if you have any triggers take note of the author's warning at the beginning.
This story was like a game of chess seeing which of the many characters would come out on top. I found both Jo and Furore both fascinating to read about. Jo is a teacher working with hardened criminals in a prison. At first glance Jo is forgettable she has few friends and lives a quiet life but her past is full of secrets that makes her a target. Furore is the President of the Night Skulls MC and a pupil in her class, he is a man you do not want to cross. Whilst in prison he makes a deal with the enemy ..... or does he ?
The story goes back and forth between past and present but it was easy to follow and not at all confusing. I enjoyed the mystery that follows Jo throughout just when I thought there was no more to reveal along came another twist. I'm still not sure I totally trust Furore and his intentions towards Jo although he does seem totally obsessed with her. The passion and sex scenes are very hot and may test your limits if you haven't read anything by this author before. The fast pace of the story and the action had me completely invested and after that ending I cannot wait for the next book.
Dark romance lovers this one's for you. Furore is the 1st book in the Night Skulls MC duet and I enjoyed it. This was a dark, forbidden, MC, age gap, ex boyfriends father, teacher/student romance that was steamy, suspenseful, had fascinating characters and an intriguing plot and I was hooked from beginning to end and could not put it down. I loved Jo and Furore, the chemistry between them was intense and I loved their banter, but their steamy scenes were off the charts hott. This story will take you on quite a ride and there were some trigger scenes so check the warning. It was fast paced yet flowed smoothly and ends in a major cliff-hanger. I can't wait for part 2 and would highly recommend this novel to lovers of dark romance.
"Even in my sleep, the world damaged my dreams with fear."
THANK GO THE DUET IS AVAILABLE. YES BOOK 1 & BOOK 2 LIVE NOW.
This Duet was brillaint but first part 1.
Jo is a teacher in prison which I have never read before. And Fuore Prez of Nigh Skulls MC is in her creative writing test.
Jo is very very mysterious because we get hints along the way and things get COMPLEX!
Furore is a dangerous man and that is why he is the Prez. What made me love him more is that he wants his son to talk to him and Jo is the inspiration behind it.. no spoilers
This has been a hard book to not to spoil but I will PROMISE you this tense moments, spicy scenes, history on alliances...that has some secrets to share and a past lover comes back...that it no more !!
I expected more but after finishing this book, I'm disappointed. #Booktok failed me again... it was somewhat interesting but then it became boring and I can't say that I'm a big fan of such love triangles... Additionally, Jo wasn't very likeable. Even if it ended in a cliffhanger I may not read the second book...
I read more than 200 pages and I’m kinda disappointed. The ads online made this book sounds so amazing but it’s just so boring. Yes, there were some spice but in general I see no hype over this book. 🤷🏼♀️
First and foremost, thank you to N.J. Adel for allowing me to be on their ARC team. Before reading the story, please check the trigger warnings. Now let's begin. Normally, I'm not a big fan of student/teacher tropes but this one had me hooked! The forbidden romance, the age gap, the spice!! I honestly couldn't stop reading. The timeframes confused me a bit but overall the storyline just kept getting better and better. It all starts with Jo teaching at a prison but she was hiding a dark secret. Furore was an inmate who was taking her class determined to find out that secret. But things don't go as one plan. This is a two-part book so I can't wait for the next one. But the ending to this one I did not see it coming.
The characters are a mess, but you can't help but realize it's the same insanity from her other series and they're back as side characters, but again - it's NJ Adel's world and if you're brave enough, come back and visit.
This book starts in prison and we learn about one of the prisoners who's gone obsessed over one of the volunteers to the education group. And she has secrets she's trying desperately hard to keep buried.
Can she do it and stay alive?
So many questions that I hope will be answered in book 2!
