Mason Kessler was the monster I made him.

Forget it and move on. That’s what everyone keeps telling me as if that was a simple thing. But how did I forget someone who use to be my whole world? How did I move on from the unbearable pain of her betrayal? Because I was trying. I searched for a way to make those doe eyes disappear in the end of a bottle. Then I tried to erase her smile with the poke of needle.

Nothing worked. Those haunting images were always there, taunting me in the back of my mind. Then I thought why should I move on when I could make her feel the same pain I did? So I became the monster Harper Callaghan accused me of being.

I would hurt her.

I would crush her.

And I would destroy her.

Because she killed the one thing I was willing to sacrifice everything for.

The girl I loved.

You don’t deserve this. That’s what Lana said, but she didn’t know the whole story. Mason Kessler was right. I was a liar. I spun tales so good that the green eyed little boy I was trying to protect believed them. He became the cruel uncaring person I said he was. The monster I created. And I deserved every bit of his wrath.

But that’s the thing about love.

It dug down deep in your soul, etching into every fiber of your being until you were willing to sacrifice everything just to see them smile. But Mason didn’t smile anymore. At least not at me. The only thing left of that green eyed little boy was a dark void of wrath and misery.

I could take the pain and humiliation. The cruel jokes and taunting words were so much better than the truth. As much as Lana and Star wanted to protect me, they couldn’t.

Because I knew who the crow in the ravens nest was.

You gotta be kidding me!!!
The h's dad does the following things to her:
# murders her mom in front of her and makes her help him bury her,
# makes her lie to the cops that made the H committed to a mental institution when they were only kids,
# rapes her best friend (who is still in high school and that makes him a paedophile),
# physically abuses her and even breaks her bones as a child and keeps assaulting her (the H finds marks on her breast where her dad grabbed her, so make that sexual assault) till the H takes her with him,
# hurts her brother that he had to be put in a medically induced coma.
The h gets to know that her dad did all this as revenge against 'The Order' for murdering his rapist brother 25yrs ago. And after all this the h STILL loves her paedophile, abusive, murderous dad; WOW!!! 🙄 I just hated the zeroine!

Whew! What a wild ride! I've been waiting for Mason and Harper since the first book, and I was not disappointed!
I think by now we had all already figured out the story behind Mason and Harper's relationship. In this book we learn the details and where they go from here. Plus some secrets come to light! I loved seeing them get their HEA. Also can I mention I loved seeing Mason team up with someone unexpected, to enact their revenge.
Mason and Harper were everything I wanted them to be.

I have been so excited for Mason and Harper’s book from the beginning as i knew their book was going to be full of angst. The wait was definitely worth it, both Mason and Harper have hurt each other in different ways but they both coudn’t let go of each other. I loved their story and it really brings the whole series together. A brilliantly wrote story!

And finally I learn the history and original burgeoning love story between Mason and Harper. And what history they share, too. Claimed in their childhood, they called themselves "husband and wife." But there are secrets, betrayal, and animosity blanketing their romance. This book brings those to fore from a toxic, persecutive relationship to their happy ever after, mixed in intrigue and dark themes this author is talented for.

Harper, "Freckles," so timid to a forbearing Mason, she subjected herself to his bullying for years, believing herself at fault while Mason battled his embitterment and personal demons. Among the books in the series so far, theirs and Mason's personality were two of the most complex, second to character Logan (from another series). And I was here for it.

Book 5 was written well to create a stand-alone novel with ties into previous books in such an expansive world. A medium burn, on the slower side, the storyline delved quite a bit into developing the characters, their sentiments, their resentment, while maintaining a burning attraction between them. And of course, when the spice hits, it was hot!

With the slower progression, there was a sense of the plot line considering at least initially which direction it would take, and then picking up after the climatic spice. And closed communication lines were the tooled culprit, though understandable. Still was a favored read. I look forward to the next book in this world and revisiting all the great characters I've come to love.

i cant lie, i think i had my hopes up too much for this book. it was good, but not as good as i was expecting. i was hoping to love mason more in this book, but i felt like he didn't dig for answers enough and his whole change in personality felt sudden. and harper - very naive. like too naive for someone who is 18. it was okay, but not great. i think i'm kinda bored of books that are just about the couple with less drama or scenes about family or a plot outside of the romance. and the climax at the very end was resolved way too quickly.

I’ve never enjoyed Harpers character, I read this for Mase and the secondary characters. My overall feeling is I wanted more.

*I wanted more conversations and relationship building between Harper and Mase and less sex (!I almost never say that!).

*Harpers character drove me crazy. Would an anonymous call to the cops about the dead body under the flowers been too much?

*I didn’t enjoy how Maces character became so rapey. All the books have that but even Micah made sure Riley enjoyed it and built up the tension first. Mase just didn’t care and said so repeatedly and tried to take her dry. It was worse in this particular relationship because he’d been her bully for so long it was just an escalation of that. It was full on rape until later in their relationship when Harper learned to enjoy CNC.

* I got whiplash with Mase, when Harper would grow a backbone he’d be both proud and get mad. It was confusing. Overall I wasn’t sold on their chemistry or relationship.

* Mase keeps referring to Riley as “his brothers girlfriend” which puts distance between them, and they have this odd relationship I always want more of, but we just see snippets in the letters at the end.

* I enjoyed the ending. It wasn’t long and dragged out. It was nice to see the Kings more involved, although I didn’t understand why the 12 lashes were deserved since Nate did pay with his life. It said “if the father failed to pay the price”, but he did. That was a big plot hole for me.

* I felt REALLY cheated by Riley and Shelby’s pregnancies, especially with birth control tampering, a favorite trope. Those are stories I want to read about not just dropped in the epilogue!!

Overall impressions: I don’t feel like I got much out of this story. Just know Mase and Harper reconcile, her father dies, he forgives his brother, and they get a HEA with a segue into Preston’s story and boy do I feel sorry for Marnie.

✅ HS Bully, forced proximity
✅ Hardcore noncon/dubcon/CNC
✅ Praise kink
✅ mild violence
✅ OW drama, Mace openly makes out with girls after he claims Harper

❌no actual sex or bjs with OW

I’ve been waiting for Mason and Harpers story since Aftereffect. I wanted to hate Mason after the other books but reading from his perspective and seeing his thoughts was heartbreaking. I don’t want to give anything away but by the end of the book my feelings had changed. I loved Harper and her strength even after everything she had been through and together they were perfect. Now to wait for Preston’s story and also that little thing from Riley at the end.

Harper and Mason

I couldn't wait for this story because I've always liked Harper but after reading it I really HATE Mason and the way the author took their story. She definitely could've done a better job. Very disappointed today the least.

I have waited for Mason and Harper’s
story since the very beginning. It was always clear how they met as children and became “husband and wife,” but never a hint of how he became the man scarier than any monster under her bed. I was not sure I was ready for their story but knew I could not wait to experience it. The cycle of Mason and Harper is dark, destructive, heartbreaking, enrapturing, and seductive.

Mason and Harper fell in love as a young children. As a Knight in the order there was always a contract for the girl that would be his. The moment he saw that redheaded girl he knew that Harper was the one. However fate had different ideas and when she became entangled in deception and secrets she turned him into the monster that he became. Their innocence was lost when they lost each other.
We see Mason has grown into a broken and destructive man. Full of anger and hate for all the lies that he has been told by those who are supposed to love him. Harper is the icing on the cake being the girl he has loved since the beginning of time, and yet she twisted the knife in his heart the most . Now only her tears and her fears can feed the beast in him. Harper is a beautiful and intelligent girl with secrets she holds close to her soul. While she craves the green eyed boy who used to be her knight in shining armor, she feels she does not deserve the love that he once felt for her. She hides in the shadows and find solace in books and hidden places. Her secrets are dark, deep, and deeply embedded in her self.
When Mason finds that there’s somebody hurting Harper, and it’s not him he claims his girl and doesn’t care what anybody says. He wants answers and he wants truth and he’s ready to battle her demons and his to get them. As they come together we watch them spiral through the gates of hell to find out if they will ever come back together.

I've been waiting for this book since Affereffect and it did not disappoint. We finally get the answers we've been waiting for and we finally get to peel back the complicated layers of Mason and Harper and I loved every minute of it.

Mason has always been one of my favorites. He's such a complex character. Playful and teasing, but with a darkness that threatens to consume him. Through the years he's descended into a pattern of self dëstruction, but one thing has always been his constant. Harper.

As a child, she was his everything. He adored her and did anything he could to make her smile...until she bëtrayed him. Now he does anything he can to make her cry.

Harper accepts her pünishment because deep down she thinks she deserves it. So much of her story was revealed in this book and my heart broke to know what she's gone through over the years. She may appear weak on the surface but she has an inner strength that is undeniable.

As anticipated, Harper and Mason's story wasn't an easy one, but that only made their fïght for a HEA even sweeter. (And don't even get me started on the smexy times 🥵🥵🥵)

Amazing addition to the series!

Can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

As usual I binged the newest book in this series. Before this book Logan was my favorite, but Mason is giving him a run for his money. There was one part where she made me laugh so hard, it’s classic. When you read it you’ll know what I’m talking about. I think that’s why I liked Logan so much, he’s funny and dark. She topped herself with Mason. Bring on Preston! #teampreston - yes its a thing.

Funniest line in the book:
- Micha to Mason >>> "Just because you didn't spawn from his nutsack doesn't mean he's not your dad."

While I enjoy Harper and Mason's story. I was expecting more angst, trauma, and heartache.

Mason:
▪︎ little Mason's inner monologues were adorable.
▪︎ present Mason was just mean for a majority of the book.

Harper:
▪︎ It was sad how much abuse Harper silently went through. And how broken her father made her, to make her always feel useless & worthless.
▪︎ I knew Harper was going to submissive and timid. But I just wish there was a bit more to her personality.
▪︎ Her constantly making excuses for her dad so far into the book was a bit annoying. Especially after finding out what he did to Lana.

The way Dean Whitley was acting when Mason and Sean (Harper's brother) found him in Ned/Nate's (bad dad) torture chamber was hilarious.

Who's the Ace of Spades Preston? I can't wait for his and Marnie's book.

line

Star Rating : 4.5/5 Stars

POV : Dual

Cliffhanger : None

Hero : Mason

Heroine : Lana

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 5/10

Heat Rating : 6/10

Triggers Involved : Bully , Past Trauma , Betrayal

Plot Summary :
Lana had been the one girl Mason always loved. She was THE ONE. That is until she betrayed him. She never knew how much he gave up for her. How much he endured for her so that she would be sheltered from pain . But now , nothing mattered. Nothing but the ever consuming hate he had for her. He lived to see her cry. Every day , every moment, he ruined her and that was the highlight of his life. And now it was turn of the final game. Harper would never know what hit her. It was Mason's turn to choose his woman and by the time he was done with Harper , there would be nothing left of her soul.

Harper never had an easy life but the best thing she ever had was the boy who loved her. Her Mason. But then the monster took him too and she had to protect him , so that is what she did. She set herself on fire to save Mason but it didn't matter. Because the boy who once loved her? Now hates her with an unmatched intensity. He lives to see her cry. He is the one terror she can't escape. No matter how much she runs , he always finds her and now he plans to trap her permanently. Make her his forever. Only she knows that it is not from some mismatched perception of love. They don't have love. All they have is hate and pain and Mason was back to break all those small parts of her that were yet to be tarnished by his hate.

Overall Opinion :
OMG. I swear I have been waiting for Mason's book ever since the first book of this series. The way he tormented Harper just broke my heart but then those glimpses where it was said about how much he once loved her , made me so curious! Like what had happened to make him hate her like this? And now I finally had all those answers and they are amazing!

Harper and Mason's book is definitely one of my favorites of this series. Their friendship and how they always somehow love each other even after so much hate gave me so much hope about them.

We get to know all about their past and also glimpses of what is yet to come. I loved the progress of the characters and meeting my favorite characters again was the best thing! Missed Micha and Logan lmao . Definitely recommending this one to the dark romance loving people . This has a dark history of bullying between the main protagonists and other triggers too so please keep that in mind.

Dark

Mason’s book could definitely be considered a dark book. I enjoyed Mason’s chapters but Harper was a little too timid for me. I had a hard time connecting with her.

well this was a bit disappointing
I spent the entire book hoping Harper would get a backbone, therapy, best friends, best suitors but she got none.
If you don't like protagonists that look like pushovers then get out of there, it's not really worth it
Thanks to this book one of my favorites is now my most hated Micha Logan has taken your place,
Things I hated because I didn't love anything (and that was my most anticipated book)
-NOBODY APOLOGIZED, I somewhat understand Mase's hatred but the others? They are telling me that they trusted Mase but they were stupid enough not to think who really hit the girl and made her say that, BECAUSE SHE WAS A TEN YEAR OLD GIRL, if she was the devil incarnate from a long time ago she would have gotten back into jail the fucking bullie of Mase and the other kooks
-TOO FILLING could do without so many sex scenes (I swear I don't believe I'm really saying this) LESS SEX MORE TALKING
-Harper never finished telling her life and what happened to her and she DID NOT GET HELP, that girl must be traumatized
-Girl, what happened to the friends, suddenly they were there and poof they disappeared, even Star, who in her book seemed to be her defender, only appeared a few times
- Hate that he forgave Mase so fucking fast, did he make a mistake? yes, but it was under duress and she was a girl for God's sake
-HATE that your only romantic interaction outside of idiot Mase was Star and a 12 year old like seriously? Mase fucked someone's mouth every time Harper turned to look at him and she gets nothing?
VERY DISAPPOINTING THE ENDING THE CLIMAX WAS BREWING FOR MORE THAN THREE BOOKS TO END LIKE THIS

The Big Bad Wolf and his Bunny - SPICY! ANGSTY!

Mason Kessler. Harper Callaghan. Enemies to Lovers.

Holy hell what did I just read?! I’m going to agree with Tara on the whole emotional stuff and this book feeling like the end even though it’s not because we still have Preston’s book to go.

I’m dying to know more about the Ace of Spades and I may have missed a clue but I’m sure I’ll figure it out later.

Anyways - back to Mason and Harper. Hot. Spicy. Frickin burn your pants off. These two deserve each other….Logan may also have a run for his money when it comes to having sexy time with their partner.

Seriously though….Harper finally revealing the truth and Mason getting his closure about what happened and everything being brought to light. It was an amazing story and I can’t get enough! I’m ready for Book 6 but I’ll just have to reread the series for now to satisfy me.

Seriously…I couldn’t put this book down. It will have you on the edge of your seat and wanting to read it in one sitting!

not as expected

I was really looking forward to Mason‘s book he had always intrigued me throughout the others however it was a severe life down. I really liked Mason being in his head I enjoyed reading his character however Harper I cannot deal with. She was beyond annoying the reasoning behind her decisions did not hold up for me and her constant complaining it really worked my nerves it made the book hard to enjoy.

I liked their chemistry a little but it is nowhere near the other books I honestly didn’t care if they ended up together I am really looking forward to Preston‘s book and I hope that it does live up to all of the buildup.

Heat level was OK
I would recommend this book just because it is part of the series and it continues to connect dots that I was and still am annoyed about from the last book in the book prior. I feel like Lana did not get the justice she needed or deserved.

I wii def finish the series

This was my most anticipated of the series. I have been dying to know what happened between mason and Harper. Throughout the series we’ve been getting small bread crumbs to what happened and why she betrayed him but never the whole story. It isn’t until the very end of accident-prone that things start to fall into place.

Mason and Harper have been promised to each other via the classic ravens and wolves contract. Mason picked Harper to be his wife and Harper loved him. When they were about 10 something happened that destroyed their friendship. Harper betrayed Mason and made him hate her. He began to viscously taunt and bully her for years to come. Harper knew she deserved it so she accepted her fate and didn’t fight back. While reading the other books we are so desperate to know why Harper just takes this relentless verbal abuse and it finally all makes sense!

Mason is truly the most broken hearted shell of a man. He has no idea why Harper would do what she did to him when he would and has done everything for her. He hid behind drugs and alcohol to cover his pain. Harper is the most timid and struck down girl and she’s practically afraid of her own shadow. When they finally lay everything out on the table and tell each other the truth everything makes sense for them again.

This is quite possibly my favorite book of this series. I love this couple more than words can say and not just this couple but Mason and Harper individually. They each have been through so much and each action forced a reaction and had things played out differently they both might have gone through a lot less but that would definitely take away from their story. Their story is beautifully sad and they both have to learn to trust each other after years of hating each other but did they really hate each other?
Mason was betrayed by more than Harper, he learns to cope in his own way and he also torments Harper for years, he is her monster but what happens when he realizes he doesn’t hate her, although he should. Harper loves her friends, loves them so much she does what she has to to protect them from what haunts her dreams even if it means betraying them.
I cried, I sobbed, I laughed, and I smiled so much it hurt which is very typical of this series. Each story emerges you more into the characters until you feel like you’re a part of them, you’re going through everything with them, and watching them all come together is a beautiful thing. I can’t wait for Preston’s book although I’ll be sad when it ends but that doesn’t mean I can’t visit them over and over again.

I love this series, but out of all the books I think this was the one I wanted the most. Harper and Mason's story is one that we have been teased with from the first chapter of Aftereffect, when adorable little Mason pointed to little Harper's picture. From that point on there were lots of questions, and finally we get some answers. I was always suspicious about Harper, from all the things we learned through out the series, Happenstance gave us an even better view of just how shady Ned Callaghan was and after that there was no doubt in my mind about his part in all the awful things that happened in Ashen Springs. Harper herself made me soooooo mad at times, and yeah you can blame it on the trauma, in real life I might be more sympathetic but in the realm of fiction I wanted to shake her until she realized how dumb she was being. Poor Mason, even with all the terrible things he did to Harper, he is the victim of their story!!! I felt bad for Harper in the beginning but after finding out what she did to him, I was done coddling Harper. I loved this book for the closure it gave us, we all knew they still loved each other but it was beautiful seeing them adapt to the different people that they each became after their innocence was shattered all those years ago. I can't wait to find out more about them from future books but I am content with this ending, seeing them back together and having a future together.

This book was pleasantly frustrating, if it makes any sense at all. I did enjoy reading it but still there were so many things that didn’t sit well with me.

Out of all the people from this series Mason feels like the most immature which is why some scenes and his inner thoughts made me roll my eyes. Sometimes he behaved like a petulant child and you do feel like you read about a teenager whereas with others you could easily forget about their age. As for the FMC, I prefer them feisty and prepared to stand up for themselves. Harper was shown timid and barely able to speak up which wasn’t something I liked, but I could understand the intimidation part which was an interesting angle of her character.

The final scene before the epilogue... This bs with order’s doctrine, what is it, middle age? I was face palming by the end of the book so much.

And don’t get me started on the cliche thing to go to the antagonist’s place unprepared and without letting anyone know. Withholding information is getting so old.

All in all, I expected this story to let me down a bit which is why I’m not too surprised with the final feeling about the book.

Oh.my.gods.oh.my.gods.oh.my.gods! I don't know where to start.

When I reviewed Accident-Prone, I was beyond completely fed up with Mason's BS. I was so done with it that I wasn't sure that I'd be able to read Relapse. After all, who needs that much negativity in their life?

Well, here's the answer. EVERYONE does.

Mason Kessler is such a complicated character. He had my sympathy in Aftereffect, but he rapidly tumbled downhill after that. But getting inside his head makes him so much more than palatable. Watching his walls break down for Harper is enthralling. She deserves every good thing that could possibly come her way. And wait til you see the flashbacks to when they were children. Both child Harper and especially child Mason are too adorable for words. I think that's what broke down my resistance to the youngest Kessler. And besides, I have a new Kessler to hate now. Gramps, I'm looking at you.

Mason and Harper have to be the most misunderstood couple of the series. My heart broke for them with so much angst, and a sense of betrayal on both parts was heart-wrenching. I wanted to haul them into a tight hug, cuddling them to within an inch of their lives to make up for all their suffering. Neither of them deserved the mental and physical anguish. Mason turned to drugs and alcohol as a panacea to the hurt he felt, while Harper hid her feelings behind cowering and solitude. The green-eyed boy was lost in his parental confusion as the doe-eyed girl watched his downward spiral, wishing she could take back the lie that caused his love to die. Their relationship is tangled in pain and misunderstanding, making their emotional struggles more palpable and evoking empathy. What Harper thought of as her way to protect everyone she held dear became a cage, her prison from her friends and family. For the devil you know just may be the one nearest and dearest to your heart.

Oh Mason <3. I think like most I've been eagerly awaiting these guys story since book one. Both hurt, both broken, both orchestrators of their own downfalls in many ways. We all wanted to see if they could ever have their happy ever after.

"Husband and Wife" from childhood until it all went wrong this is a tale of love, betrayal, secrets, lies and eventually vengeance. and good lord was I down for every step!

Poor Harper is so downtrodden, I know some people wont like how meek she is but at the end of the day she was let down by those that should have loved her the most. Just because someone hurts you it doesn't mean you can just stop loving them, It doesn't stop all the good bits still being there. I love the way T.L Hodel shines a light on the complexities of abuse and how its never as black and white as it seems from the outside.

One to read for sure!

This is the one i have been waiting for!! I finally get to see inside Mason's head and understand a little of why he is so angry with the world and everyone in it......and let me tell you this one is a wild ride..... its emotional, heartbreaking and dark at times, but i guarantee its worth it! I just could not put it down! I really loved the dynamic between Mason and Harper, they are so different, but are both able to bring the best out in each other as well as the worst, a truly breathtaking read!!
I cannot get enough of this world and these characters, so it was really nice to see them also play small parts in this story.....Preston's next.....cant wait!!!

I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

When they were little, Harper broke Mason’s heart - and ever since then he has been hèllbent on breaking Harper. When I learned the how and why of what happened… it really was devastating. Harper does all that she can to keep her loved ones safe, even if that comes at her own expense.

Mason is a “recovering” addict - depending on the day, and his anger rules his life. The betrayal he has had to go through from all sides of his life really cuts deep. He is all the alphahole-mine-possessive-bûlly- I could have asked for and more.

This book was an easy five star read, and an amazing addition to the series!

I’ve waited almost a year for this book& i had very high hopes for this book and it did not disappoint. I was very exited for this book and more excited for Prestons honestly :) i cant wait for his book. I give this book a 4.5 ⭐️ . Reason why im not giving this a 5 star read was bc i wanted to read more about Mase and harper being in love. It seemed kind of rushed in the end like Mason realised his feelings 85% in the book and from there on we didn’t have a chapter with just them being them instead of that we got action after action not that i mind but i wanted to see more of them😍. Overall i loved the shit storm Mase was and Him and Harper just being a mess together and then just them getting together😍❤️. Also loved the smutty scenes it did not disappoint 🥵

I love innocent shy heroines and OTTP heroes
That's why I love this book 🤩
Thank you for writing Harper and Mason's story and The Orders of Raven's and Wolves
If I love the characters I don't mind the story but you didn't disappoint your readers because even if Mason's was rude and mean to Harper there's a love hidden in him and Harper was like a flower blossoming... Harper is my favorite character in all I've read.Thank you for creating Harper I really love her even if she doesn't have courage at first but in the end she accepted her mistakes and became a better person.Give this book a chance read it because you won't regret it 🤩
May god give you good health so you can continue writing and live a happy life💐
Cheers to your success 🥂

Relapse is book 5 in The Order If Ravens and Wolves Series.
This is a dark high school bully romance that can be read as a stand-alone but is part of a interconnected series so would contain spoilers for the previous books.
If you’ve been reading the series you’ll be just as desperate for Mason and Harpers story and it definitely didn’t disappoint. It’s been a long time coming and I was on the edge of my seat for this gritty, dark and tortured read. It’s everything I wanted from it.
Mason is so angry and you can see why. With Harper there’s so much more than meets the eye. You get a proper understanding for why things are the way they are and I was so drawn into this world again from the very beginning.
It’s dark, sad, steamy, tortured souls, and not everything is how it seem’s.
Another amazing book in the series and I can’t wait for Preston’s now.
A massive 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
